I'm not disputing that, but it's really unnecessary for that page. -- Scorpion0422 19:27, 19 August 2008 (UTC) It is misleading to just say what it had. Let's keep it one way for now, while we wait for community consensus. Smartyllama (talk) 19:55, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Torah study on Tisha B'Av
Torah study in this respect does not refer specifically to learning from the Five Books of Moses but rather to Torah in the broader sense -- in that vein, "Bible study" hardly cuts it (please see my edit summary). DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 22:14, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (File:Orangecountyshield.gif)
Thanks for uploading File:Orangecountyshield.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Radiant chains (talk) 23:25, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
WP:NYSR inactivity check
Hello, Smartyllama. You are receiving this message because you are listed on the participant list of WP:NYSR. I am conducting an inactivity check on behalf of the project to see if the project still has an active editor base. The status column on the participant list will be cleared today, and to remain a listed member of the project, you must update your status on the participant list (preferably using the terms "Active", "Semi-active", or "Inactive") which is located here. Those who do not update their status after one week (by the night of June 25) and those who put inactive as their status will be removed from the list. If you have any questions, please leave a message on my talk page or at the "A smorgasbord of topics" section on WT:NYSR. Thank you for your understanding and your time. – TMF 12:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Smartyllama! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 677 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Flag of Grenada
This help request has been answered. If you need more help or have additional questions, please replace the code {{help me-helped}} on this page with {{help me}}, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their own user talk page. |
I'm not sure if this is the right place to use helpme, but I wasn't sure how to alert the appropriate people of a bug that I am encountering while editing. Anyway, in certain articles, the flag of Grenada is displaying like the flag of Dominica (though it appears to be fine when actually inserted as a picture instead of through a Template.) For instance, look at 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification - CONCACAF Second Round or at 2008 Summer Olympics. In both cases, Grenada is added through a template that also includes the flag. It appears to be displaying fine in articles such as Grenada where it actually includes the flag as an image directly as opposed to through a template. Could someone please tell me why and how I can fix it? Thanks! Smartyllama (talk) 19:59, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

The AfD superstore
Hi Smartyllama! I hadn't been paying attention to AfD for a while, so I wasn't aware this had been going on for months. I've approached the editor on their talk page. They've more or less stopped editing at the moment. Let's give them a chance to play nice. If you want to also join the discussion on the talk page, feel free to do so. I feel like this editor is editing in good faith, but had a big misunderstanding about AfD and the relationship between specific notability guidelines, gng, and what a strain it is on our total resources to deal with articles on AfD. Hopefully a friendly and positive conversation will get them back on the right track! Thanks for all your work at AfD and elsewhere!Jacona (talk) 21:04, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- @JaconaFrere: I think he's been around long enough to know better, and the fact that he reverted your message on his talk page, then went out and made more of these deletion nominations, shows that he's deliberately ignoring the guidelines rather than being unaware of them. Smartyllama (talk) 21:35, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oops, here's the proper diff. Smartyllama (talk) 21:36, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- He's also repeatedly gone on sprees nominating whole classes of people for deletion (usually athletes) without doing any WP:BEFORE. Sometimes they're not notable, sometimes they are, but it's obvious from the speed at which he's nominated them that he couldn't possibly have done any research one way or the other. And he's been around long enough to know better. Take a look at his AFD history. And these sprees are getting more frequent, not less. Smartyllama (talk) 21:45, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- I've asked the closing admin User:Killiondude to restore the additional articles at his talk page. Also, I noticed a similar basketball-related nomination, and took it to the nominators talk page with a very polite explanation. The editor withdrew the nomination and thanked me for the explanation. Most editors are reasonable and want to advance the encyclopedia, and will respond appropriately, or so I hope. Thanks again! Jacona (talk) 19:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Hounding
Seriously stop hounding me. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:29, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Sportsfan 1234: I apologize if I came across as harsh with my comments, but there was no reason to remove cited and accurate content. Either fix the bare reference or leave it be, don't remove the citation and the material. In the time it took you to delete the information, you could have fixed the citation. I'm sorry if I came across as too harsh in my edit summary, but it just really frustrates me when people remove information that could easily be fixed rather than just fixing it. Smartyllama (talk) 21:05, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
PROD's
I tried to 'ping' you (don't know if it worked) with a response on my talk page. I believe it is likely that Kenya will be added to a list of non-participants, but it is ambiguous still.18abruce (talk) 18:58, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- @18abruce: Why do you say that? Looks like they'll be participating; the quota is confirmed. It took longer than most, and at the time you posted this it hadn't been confirmed yet, but now it's finalized. In the meantime, I've created the Cayman article as a redirect, and it looks like the others are redirects now too. Smartyllama (talk) 21:07, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- At the time it was past the deadline and reallocation was already happening. The numbers the FIS indicated that were available for reallocation (at the time) included the quota that ended up going to Kenya after all. I took the information to imply that they were not going to compete, but because it was still listed in red and not yellow I took it that there was still a chance that they could compete.18abruce (talk) 22:28, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, fair enough. Thanks. Smartyllama (talk) 23:41, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.
Our top scorers in round 1 were:
- Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
- FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
- Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
- Ceranthor, Numerounovedant, Carbrera, Farang Rak Tham and Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! WikiCup 2018 May newsletter
The second round of the 2018 WikiCup has now finished. Most contestants who advanced to the next round scored upwards of 100 points, but two with just 10 points managed to scrape through into round 3. Our top scorers in the last round were:
- Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with three featured articles
- Iazyges, with nine good articles and lots of bonus points
- Yashthepunisher, a first time contestant, with two featured lists
- SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with seventeen good topic articles
- Usernameunique, a first time contestant, with fourteen DYKs
- Muboshgu, a seasoned competitor, with three ITNs and
- Courcelles, another first time contestant, with twenty-seven GARs
So far contestants have achieved twelve featured articles between them and a splendid 124 good articles. Commendably, 326 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2018 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met; most of the GARs are fine, but a few have been a bit skimpy.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck!
