Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Skyyak. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. You did add COI declarations to your user page but then you removed them again â possibly by mistake. bonadea contributions talk 15:42, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Skyyak/sandbox
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Skyyak/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages â user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. - We're working hard to create content that Wiki will approve. Yak cheese is a thing and there have been several Western style yak cheeses that Wiki hasn't covered (unlike Chhurpi or durkha), and unlike it's coverage of water buffalo cheese (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_water_buffalo_cheeses) as well as water buffalo mozzarella (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Buffalo_mozzarella). Wiki one "Caravane cheese" says "Caravane is the brand name of a camel milk cheese produced in Mauritania by Tiviski." Is this considered advertising?
- Prairie Sky is a brand of Yak Milk cheese. Please advise. That was a lot of editing work that just disappeared.

November 2022
[edit]Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at List of cheeses, you may be blocked from editing. Theroadislong (talk) 08:39, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your advice. I have closely followed the Wiki Caravane cheese post to help avoid any perceived controversy on Wiki side.
- Nicole Skyyak (talk) 09:04, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- You should not be using other articles as your model, especially ones like Caravane cheese which is severely lacking in many respects. Instead, you need to be following the relevant policies and guidelines. Promotional editing is not allowed, even if you do manage to find an existing article (or several) which also has promotional content. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:08, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- E?C See other stuff exists, Caravane cheese is a very poor quality article, promotional, lacking in sources and little evidence of notability. Theroadislong (talk) 09:11, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Paid editing
[edit] As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Skyyak, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose â e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Skyyak|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 08:40, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Theroadislong I'll figure out how to make a COI declaration in the morning. I'll also try to Reine the article to the best of my ability to cite sources and be objective in my editorial content. In the meantime, please don't ask for a "Speedy deletion" of my work.
- Warmly, Nicole Skyyak (talk) 09:19, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

- @Theroadislong @DoubleGrazing I am concerned about the content of this code:|user=Skyyak|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName. {paid}
- Under no circumstances could or should I claim to be "paid" for this effort. I Do Not disclose that I have been paid by {{{any employer}}} for my contributions to Wikipedia. Quite the opposite, I am a volunteer, donor, and contributor to the cause. I am not paid for this effort, neither by WHYC or PSR or anyone else. It is really quite expensive for us. Please advise. Skyyak (talk) 10:01, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- We have no way of knowing whether or not you receive compensation, other than your say-so. As such, nobody can force you to make a disclosure that you are not willing to make. It could be (I'm not saying it is, only that it could be) that you are interpreting the policy differently, and feel that you are not compensated although you are, or that your situation is borderline. If that were the case, you would be better off making a disclosure even if you don't need to, rather than not making one that you do need to. But this is just my advice; ultimately, it is your call. (Having said all that, you evidently have a COI, which needs to be disclosed, no matter what.) -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:26, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- @DoubleGrazing Thank you DoubleGrazing for the information. I'm confident I am not going to be compensated. We have a small pension and took up an expensive yak cause. We may not even be able to save the yak. If I'm confident I'm not going to receive monetary benefit from this investment, how can I appropriately disclose my COI for the love of yak, WHYC and PSR? I'm not good at legalese policy statements. Is there a different code I could use to claim COI that doesn't say "paid"?
- Nicole Skyyak (talk) 11:02, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- You work for PrarieSky, a company you are trying to promote here, so you would be considered to be a paid editor? Theroadislong (talk) 11:28, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- This, what Theroadislong says, is what I meant that you may be using a literal definition of 'paid', which is stricter than the spirit of the policy intends. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:52, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- As explained above in the 'Managing a conflict of interest' section, paid editing is only one type and subcategory of COI editing. Even if (for the sake of the argument) you do not wish to disclose paid editing, you can and must still disclose your COI. Please read and understand that section well. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- What is Conflict of Interest in nonprofits exactly according to Wiki policy? According to the IRS: In a non-profit or charitable organization, conflicts of interest occur where individuals' obligation to further the organization's charitable purposes is at odds with their own financial interests. Skyyak (talk) 16:32, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Theroadislong (talk) 16:36, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- As an academic researcher, I am familiar with COI disclosure in my peer-reviewed articles, as well as the importance of creating objective and unbiased content. I am also comfortable with and trained in the collaborative writing process.
- While the article you resent me ("See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest") is quite long and does not specifically discuss charitable organizations, I don't believe I qualify as a "paid editor" in this situation. I also do not believe the content I am attempting to discuss is unworthy of inclusion on Wiki.
- However, I am interested in looking at the details of Wiki concerns where there is a Paid Editor since you have voiced concerns, and because I want to remain compliant with Wiki policy and become an asset to the Wiki community:
- I do not believe there is a presence of "unnecessary detail that may have been added to overwhelm something negative" or to make something positive.
- I don't believe "anything important is missing".
- I have been adding "independent sources" wherever possible.
- I have attempted to use "neutral language".
- I also do not believe this is "disruptive editing" such as vandalism, as you mentioned earlier. I am attempting to add a topic that is not currently covered. Wiki says that "If an editor treats situations that are not clearly vandalism as such, that editor may harm the encyclopedia by alienating or driving away potential editors."
- What do you recommend going forward? Skyyak (talk) 17:23, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Adding edits like this [1] and spam like this [2] is entirely promotional and with your conflict of interest will not be allowed it matters not that you say the company is a charitable organization. Theroadislong (talk) 17:53, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
