Hail the copy edit wizard!

[edit]

Holy cats, you're really tearing up that copy edit backlog. I'm cautiously optimistic that the Guild might set a new record low this month, or maybe - just maybe - get the backlog down to more or less zero. Thanks for putting in so much hard work! See you in the trenches! Wikignome Wintergreentalk 01:26, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Bazentin-le-Petit Military Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Notabilty

[edit]

What do you do if an article is tagged for not meeting notabilty? One of my articles which is identical to many others both created by me and not, but it's being considered for deletion if notabilty is not proven. What should I do? Article in question - James Webb (Medal of Honor). Gandalf the Groovy (talk) 23:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gandalf the Groovy: From Wikipedia:Notability_(people), Medal of Honor awardees should always be considered notable because of the guideline "1. The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times". In terms of demonstrating notability to a reviewer, from the James Webb article I think you can:
1. Elaborate on Webb's military service in full sentences - put the valor.militarytimes.com citation in a blockquote and attribute it to the Secretary of War that was in office at the time of awarding.
2. Also try to find a locally published biography from a Civil War Memorial group and/or the book Deeds of Valor (Keydel) and use the information in there to create a timeline, like a story, for the important events that happened that resulted in the Medal. This won't always be available, unfortunately, when the Medal was for something like capturing a flag, so make do with whatever you can find. The website civilwardata.com doesn't usually come up on Google searches but I've found it to be extremely useful for background information, and even though findagrave.com isn't technically a good source, it is sometimes useful as a collection of the biographical information that you can find on the other sites (I use it for birth/death/burial and #s of children and spouse).
3. Create an infobox with a picture that you take from the list or upload to Wikimedia Commons using the infobox Military Person or infobox Soldier templates so that reviewers can easily see the biographical information.
4. Finally, I wouldn't go through Articles for Creation. You can publish articles directly to mainspace if you just use the writing space that's provided to you when you click on a redlink instead of publishing things through your draftspace. This way, you can skip the arbitrariness of the AfC reviewers (no serious shade intended :) ) and have your article looked over by the new page reviewers instead, who I find are more consistent and lenient in general.
