Student's article speedily deleted as a copyright violation

I noticed the page Concept cars and its future aspects via the New Article Bot daily report and tagged it after it failed a trip through the copyvio detector. It was then deleted. It appears to be the product of a class project; I suspect that this sort of thing should be reported to the course instructor, but I'm not sure if there's a proper channel to do so. Need help request from OctopusSuction (talk)

Hello!

I am at an early phase of drafting some additions to the Wikipedia article for Science and technology in South Korea. I feel like I am on the right track, but I was hoping I could get your expert opinion to be sure that I am doing what I should be. Any suggestions, recommendations, or criticisms are welcome!!

Thank you,

Hey This is Contreras Lopez

Hi, is this okay to put on my article. According to the article, Women's Right in Iran, states that "Women’s rights are severely restricted in Iran, to the point where women are even forbidden from watching men’s sports in stadiums". This comes to show that there are still places that women are seen as minor compared to men. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContrerasLopez (talkcontribs) 19:12, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

According to the article, Women's right in Iran, states that "Moreover, married women can't even leave the country without their husband's permission". It shows that it deprives the rights of a human. Of simply going out of the country. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContrerasLopez (talkcontribs) 19:33, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Question regarding citations

Hi Shalor, in the article I am editing in my sandbox (on Cheryl Gallant), I noticed there is a citation (#1) which only brings the reader to the general Pembroke Observer News website online, not to any specific article. What should I do with that citation? Should I delete it? I have already added a different citation beside it to a CBC article with the same information. Thank you! Hi, I want to make sure is this okay. Also, can you let me know if it okay to put my paragraph to the article. I already have one but I am waiting for you guys to approve it. Will you give me feedback with these three please, Thanks You.

Critics have argued that the restriction of women's rights under Saudi Arabia law has led to the separation of gender by causing females to have there owned women-sign and to make sure the mix does not occur into the female and male. Sources Zoeff,Katherine (2011-10-10). Talk of Women's Rights Divides Saudi Arabia. The New York Times.

Gender segregation also impacts the Saudi education system by having more employment for men and the opportunity to graduate with a career. Other hand, women did not have the same opportunity as men. Women did not have the same opportunity of finding a good job. Source Abdella Doumato,Eleanor. Women and Work in Saudi Arabia: How Flexible Are Islamic Margins? Middle East Journal. Vol.53, No. 4 ( Autumn, 1999). pp.568-583.

Gender segregation also impacts the participation of women in the mosque by encouraging women to pray at home and not in the mosque but with the new generation coming women are allowed to pray at the mosque or in their homes. Beyond the Hijab Debates: New Conversations on Gender, Race, and Religion, 2009, First, pp. 52-66. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContrerasLopez (talkcontribs) 03:00, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

By any chance do you know if I can post the other one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContrerasLopez (talkcontribs) 15:15, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I am having trouble citing them into the article. [1] Is this correct on how to cite. I am just making sure i do it right. Critics have argued that the restriction of women's rights under Islamic law has led to the segregation of public and private spaces, which they must then attempt to resolve through politics and creating their own spaces.[2] Gender segregation also impacts the company that people keep, as researcher Ziba Mir-Hosseini noted that during her field work she spent most of her time around women and that in some instances she never met the male relatives of some of these women due to the strict regulation of gender segregation.[3] These restrictions may also impact travel, as some rules state that married women are forbidden from traveling without their husband's permission and in some cases women must be segregated from male passengers.[4] — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContrerasLopez (talkcontribs) 20:32, 30 October 2019 (UTC) Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page).

Hi, can you check if this is okay. For the section Afghanistan. Thank you

Gender segregation also forbade the participation of women learning how to drive a car. Saudi country prohibits women to use any car.

Although opaque to me, this discussion at my Talk page may be helpful to others who know what the context here is. There appears to be some kind of connection to Islam and gender segregation, but more than that, I cannot say. Mathglot (talk) 02:38, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Need help request from Adam conlon (talk)

Hello.

I need help with...

Relative minimum wage is the ratio of the national median wage. This varies from country to country. A higher relative minimum wage means that there is a large gap between the minimum wage of that given area and the national median wage. This occurs in low income areas. The national U.S. national relative wage is about .36, which is the lowest out of any industrialized country. Recent studies have shown that there is evidence to suggest that minimum wage does not increase unemployment, which is contrary to the believe up until the 2000s. Recent studies show that the areas which have a higher national median wage are considered “high impact areas.” High impact meaning that these areas are at a higher risk for minimum wage policy to directly impact that community. In these high impact areas studies show that an increase in minimum wage increases employment, wages, and decreases poverty. These new studies help show how minimum wage can help reduce the gap in low income areas as well as increase the standard of living.[29] https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Minimum_wage

The Holocaust

Hi Shalor, I see that a student has chosen the above as part of his course. That article is unlikely to be a good fit for student editing. All the best, SarahSV (talk) 23:44, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi Shalor -- I came here to say exactly the same thing Sarah did. There are a lot of better choices; perhaps find an article that is underdeveloped, underreferenced, or otherwise needy? Dropping a new student into the middle of the Holocaust article is like dropping a student driver into the middle of London rush hour in a car with a stick shift. It's unlikely to be a good experience for a student editor. Thanks, Antandrus (talk) 00:15, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) (lost my edit) Same thing; this is likely to be disruptive, and cause reverts and frustration on both sides. Saving Work in Sandbox

Hi, My name is Cambria and I am currently editing for my Anth 473 class. I am currently working on the Southern Tutchone wikipedia in my sandbox. I worked on one section and everything went well, however I am now working on a next section and I have been unable to save my work using the publish changes button. speedily deletion flag

Hi Shalor, I just received a speedily deletion flag on my sandbox, and I'm very confused!! It says that someone thinks I'm using this page for promotion, but I am only here to add historical information to Luisa Tetrazzini's page for a class. I am NOT using this information for advertising or promotion whatsoever. I honestly have no idea what I've done wrong. The user who flagged me mentioned that I can press a button to contest the flag, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm feeling very worried. If there is something I'm doing wrong, I'm happy to edit or delete whatever that might be, but I couldn't see anything specific that was supposed to be changed based on this other user's flag. If you can shed any light on this, I will be so grateful. I believe it's my sandbox page that has been flagged (but I'm very new at all this, so I'm not totally sure). Here is the link User:Skyesings/Luisa Tetrazzini Please let me know if you need any other info to understand the problem! Thank you, Skye.Skyesings (talk) 19:54, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

(by talk reader) @Skyesings: A few things went wrong here. First, your sandbox is a copy of Luisa Tetrazzini; I'm not sure why you did that, especially without attribution as required by WP:CWW. Second, the article you copied is poorly written, using adjectives like sensational, extraordinary, phenomenal which sounds like the sort of thing a modern publicist would write about a client. Third, XXX8906 noticed you (a new editor, always suspect) and tagged your sandbox for these reasons but reverted themselves, realizing what happened. Your sandbox is, for now, safe. In the future, please make edits directly to the article in piecemeal fashion. A late term wholesale re-write would be unwelcome. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:05, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
Hi Chris! Thank you so much for the quick feedback!! I'm very new to all this and thought I was supposed to use the sandbox as just a draft to keep everything. When I've made official edits to the actual published article, I only copy a few sentences of my edits at a time, rather than just doing one large edit. I mistakenly copied the whole article so I could keep track of how I was changing it, and I forgot to delete before I published the last time. I will make sure and take care of that asap. Also, thank you for your contact about the wording. I believe it is difficult to clearly articulate how truly famous and incredible she was (according to many critical reviews) without using some of those words which could cause the article to be marked for promotion. I will think about how to reword those more neutrally. And to clarify, will the deletion tag be taken off, or is there something more that I should do? Thank you again for your helpful feedback!! Skyesings (talk) 20:18, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
No problem, Skyesings. Nothing you created is tagged for deletion. Messages left on your talk page stay there, even if the matter was resolved. As for wording, if a source says she was "phenomenal" then specify that the source said so. We cannot describe someone as phenomenal in Wikipedia's voice. We communicate descriptions of the subject through attributing the source of the claims. Please read WP:PEACOCK and WP:WEASEL. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:26, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

You are a lifesaver!! Those pages are so helpful and give some great examples. I will make sure and keep that in mind as I continue to edit the article. Thank you again for taking time to help me!!Skyesings (talk) 20:31, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

I did some minor cleanup, etc., but didn't realize that it was something that was being worked on by students as part of a Wiki Ed course. Anyway, I think the course's instructor (Uncannydazzler) might be better off giving specific instructions to his class either outside of Wikipedia or perhaps on their user talk pages, or at least try and realize that article talk pages are for everyone not just his class. It's not clear in some cases who he's addressing in his article talk page comments and some of the comments look to be being a bit haphazardly added to existing talk page discussions. While I understand that he's probably set deadlines for his students to meet regarding the various articles they're working on improving, none of those deadlines are applicable to Wikipedia; I'm also not quite sure whether he realizes that WP:OWN applies to all articles (technically all pages, but it's mainly becomes an issue with respect to articles). So, if he's going to be grading his students' Wikipedia work, he might be better of having them do stuff off of Wikipedia, grading it, and then having them add to articles. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:04, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, (Marchjuly). I was trying to send some comments to my students this morning and did not even realize I was in the main article talk page--that was meant for their sandbox pages within the Wiki Edu platform. I will remove and place those comments where they belong. Just a mistake on my part. --Uncannydazzler (talk) 22:09, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
@Uncannydazzler: That’s OK and thanks for clarifying things. If you do go back and remove or edit any of your posts, please keep in mind WP:TPO and WP:REDACT. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:46, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

I need help with the Background

Hey Shalor, I added some more information in the beginning of the background of my groups article called "Men Own the Fields, Women Own the Crops" by Miriam Goheen. Do you mind taking a look to see what I wrote looks good? I will give you a link to where I found my added information. Also, how do I make a citation at the bottom of the page? Thank you! :)

rude moderators

I am really not appreciating the feedback some of the editors are snarky. I don't need that kind of feedback its disrespectful and rude. I get it as a man he has the power but he could be cordial and professional about not snarky and rude. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by DiaEdie (talkcontribs) 11:38, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi DiaEdie. I've responded to your post at Talk:Sex industry/Archives/2019#Giving feedback. Please try and assume good faith when it comes to other editors and not immediately assume that someone who is offering you what appears to be constructive criticism or expressing concerns about some of your edits is doing so for reasons other than trying to help improve the quality of Wikipedia. There are no real "moderators" when it comes to Wikipedia (there are administrators but they serve a slightly different purpose) and whether an editor is male or female matters not when it comes to quality of one's edits. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:56, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia Project Northern Kentucky University

Hello, my name is Fatoumata Sow and I am currently a student at Northern Kentucky University. For my class project, I added a paragraph to the Wikipedia article entitled "Haitian Mythology" and I would love to receive feedback because it is part of the assignment. Help me with any comments you have about the article or ways to improve the paragraph please.

Here is the link to it: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Haitian_mythology The title of my paragraph is: History and Origins of Voodooism in Haiti

Need help request from Danielmharris (talk)

Hello.

Whenever I click on my sandbox, all it says is "this is the sandbox of User Danielmharris's user page. There is no where for me to edit anything, write anything, or work on anything. So, with the article I've been writing, I've just already published it (even though it is still very preliminary) and am just editing it when I need to add something. In addition to not having a functioning sandbox, when I titled my article, I created a title and for some reason it included User:Danielmharris at the beginning of my title, and no matter how hard I try to figure it out, I cannot seem to change the title of my article. I even went to the Wikipedia page about moving an article, and the screenshot that is listed on the page of where the move button is does not help me because on my page, there is no move button at that exact spot. There is no move button anywhere, really, so I cannot rename my article.

Feedback on Edits MadeTuh18327 (talk) 04:11, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Hello Shalor, I would like to ask if I'd be able to receive any feedback or just a general check on the edits I made on Daniel Miller's Wikipedia page? I would love to get advice from you before I officially submit my work. Thank you so much!

Need help request from Aesmith13 (talk) username:aesmith13

Hello.

I need help with... I am not seeing how to submit my article to Wikipedia? Also I tried moving my article to change my article name and it did not do what I thought it would do so I tried to convert it back. Could you make sure I have done that correctly, and possibly walk me though the process of submission? I believe I have corrected all of your suggestions, and thank you so much for taking the time to do that for me, I greatly appreciate it.

Class

Hey Shaylor, I was wondering if you could please work with the students in this class as I've done a fair amount of clean up behind them. Many of these articles would have been deleted as promotional/copyright violations as they're basically just resumes and a quote farm, take this for example.Praxidicae (talk) 15:42, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for Feedback!

Thank you so much, Shalor. I appreciate the feedback! It helped me a lot. Tuh18327 (talk) 22:26, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Hello.

I need help with... im trying to move my work to main space but its not allowing me. also the more icon inst showing up can you please assists thank you

--Mommyoftwokings (talk) 01:36, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher)Hi Mommyoftwokings. Was this the edit you were trying to make? That was content you added to Depression in childhood and adolescence, but I've removed it for now because it's not quite ready (at least in my opinion) to be added to the article. Some of it seemed a bit redundant to what's already covered in that particular section and some of it had a kind of original research feel to it and not a very encyclopedic tone to it. In additions, the sources you were trying to cite also weren't really formatted properly, at least not how they should be for a Wikipedia article. Perhaps you can work on some of these things and then re-add it. Most of the time articles are just corrected as by anyone who comes along, but since you're a student and this appears to be part of your class project, I thought you might want to try and do so first. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:58, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Look at my sandbox

Hi, I went and copied some things that I had added. Even though some of it got reverted will this go towards my 25 edits? Or should I start over. My stuff got changed because I was not able to follow proper guidelines can you let me know if I am correct on this thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DiaEdie (talkcontribs) 06:18, November 26, 2019 (UTC)

I just added a sentence to explain where prostitution is illegal in the United States. I also wanted some clarity I was told not to sign my submissions or questions but on here it says don't forget to sign. I am confused as I was told several times not to do that but it is stated on the talk section one must do so. Please and thank you.

So I feel like I am getting conflicting information. I was told not to sign my signature which I stopped doing in articles and on my talk my page. I was also told not not to start a new topic to continue from the old topic which I did. I also don't have any bias about the United States but it looks like that. I have tried several times to add information from a global view point only for it to get removed. .These editors love putting me in my place How am I am being bias when they delete anything I submit. I tried adding things about the Dominican Republic and Colombia and was told I was too specific and when I start using the the United States because that is what is our database I am accused of having bias. I can't win on here nor do I want to. (DiaEdie (talk) 16:39, 26 November 2019 (UTC)).

Changes to the Soumaya Keynes Page

Shalor,

Thank you for your feedback on the Soumaya Keynes page, and for your help in editing the "family" section of the document. I found your feedback to be quite helpful. I just want to make sure I understand your first point. Should I simply delete both the "Other Activities" and "Talks and Interviews" sections of the page and incorporate any of the important details from them into the "career" section?

Thanks again for the help. Much appreciated. Beavinlake (talk) 20:06, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Can't move Soumaya Keynes article

Shalor,

I am attempting to move my article but am receiving the error message "Article cannot be moved: A page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid."

I selected (Article) and named it "Soumaya Keynes"

The page Soumaya Keynes does exist but only redirects to the Keynes family page. How do I post mine?

Thank you for your help.

Beavinlake (talk) 06:42, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher)Hi Beavinlake. Before you move the content in your sandbox, you might want to take a look at MOS:SECTIONCAPS, MOS:DATEFORMAT (inculding WP:BADDATE and MOS:DATEUNIFY), MOS:ALLCAPS, WP:CITELEAD, and H:FOOT#Reference lists: the basics (probably the most important of the lot). Most of these are minor formatting or WP:MOS mistakes that aren't the kind of things that would lead to the article being deleted, but they are things you can easily fix yourself. You might also want to look at WP:CATV and WP:NAMESORT since you don't seem to be intending to submit your draft for review to Wikipedia:Articles for creation (categories and sorting are things an AfC reviewer normally does after approving a draft).
As for actually moving the page, you should ask an administrator to do it for you at Wikipedia:Requested moves; there are various ways you could try and do it yourself, but most of them end up causing problems due to split page histories. An administrator will be able to delete the redirect page and do all the necessary cleanup before moving the sandbox to the new title. Note that just because an administrator moves the page, that doesn't mean that the administrator is approving the article per se; it's just means they are taking care of the technical stuff involved in the move. Once the content is added to the mainspace, it will be fair game for anyone to edit at anytime as explained in Wikipedia:Ownership of content. So, if you want to ensure that a particular version of your work is what your teacher is going to see, you may want wait until they look it over before requesting it be moved to the mainspace. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:35, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

State Government Image lcopyrights

Are images published by state governments in the public domain? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gesanes (talkcontribs) 16:01, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi Gesanes. Assuming that you're referring to a US state government, the answer is most likely no as explained in Wikipedia:Public domain#US government works and c:Commons:Licensing#Material in the public domain. Works created by US government employees as part of their official duties are generally considered to be within the public domain, but the same is not always true for employees working for states, counties, cities, etc; in that case, things depend on the laws of the state, country, city, etc. Some states such as Florida and California have passed statutes which state that works by their employees is considered to be within the public domain for certain state departments and for certain content, etc., but not for others. You can probably find out more about the copyright laws of a particular state here. It's to also understand that not all content hosted by US government or US state government websites, etc. is not necessarily content created by an official government website. Such websites also sometimes host content created by third-parties, either per the concept of fair use or some agreement between the two sides; so, for such content, it would not be considered to be within the public domain simply as an official government work. It might be public domain for some other reason, but that's something which will need to be assessed separately. You didn't identify the state or image you're interested in knowing more about, but you can probably get some more specific advice about both at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions or c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:19, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
