stubs?
[edit]Hi, I was intrigued by your recent "stub sorting". Looking at this list, most of the articles are not stubs, so am wondering at the title. Thanks for all the work. Happy new year. Span (talk) 05:54, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ah. Thanks for the info. No harm done, I guess. Best wishes Span (talk) 14:05, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

The article Hallsteinn Sigurðsson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Notability concerns. Can't find any reliable, secondary sources on which to base a biography of this painter, the closest I found via books/news was a passing reference to a craftsman: http://www.volksfreund.de/nachrichten/region/trier/Heute-in-der-Trierer-Zeitung-Gelobtes-Arbeitsland-Luxemburg;art754,2567564. He did have a show at what appears to be a small gallery in Reykjavik, and there's primary (from the gallery) coverage of that at, but I didn't find secondary coverage of it. In the end, I can't see an argument for notability under either WP:GNG or WP:ARTIST, but additional sources, as always, are welcome.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I am Tigreman, a contributor, and I have written about Alfonso N Lovo, a well known Nicaraguan rock musician and composer recognized in Nicaragua, and internationally, and I see that you have blocked his information, repeatedly.
Incredibly, in the same page Nicaraguan Composers, Wikipedia is listing Rigoberto Lopez Perez, a person whose claim to fame has nothing to do with music but with being the assassin of Anastasio Somoza Garcia, a President of Nicaragua, considered a Dictator. Rigoberto Lopez, is not a composer, he was a Poet.
I would respectfully ask you to reinstate after whatever modifications you seem fit, Lovo as a composer, from Nicaragua, the man is active, playing, and receiving recognition, by TV, Newsmedia, and critics, for his music and guitar playing.
Thank you, Tigreman Tigreman (talk) 07:35, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Anhui
[edit]Hi. I was wondering if you could do the control H thing to wiki link and change into capital letters for town and township List of township-level divisions of Anhui?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:35, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I've begun expanding Hallsteinn Sigurðsson... I haven't visited your talk page in ages! And it may surprise you but I don't actually have your talk page on my watch list, or anybody elses for that matter!! Mayvbe Calliopejen should take a leaf out of my book.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:02, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Its good to stay away for a bit I think.. I see some red links in that Icelandic sculptor article I'll attend to shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:08, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Nice to see me actually producing some content again? I can't keep it up though as I'm cutting down on the time I spend on wikipedia..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:12, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Aw you're too kind. Well in the olden days everything seemed to be missing so it was something of a start as many articles as possible scenario. Nowadays we still seem to be missing loads!! But the state on so many articles is so bad that the really need improving. I still think starting decent stubs and then starting more interlinked and on and on is the best way to build wikipedia and it is extremely important for future growth but in the short-term way of thinking, especially from a readers viewpoint we really do need to develop the stale articles we have on here or start them again or something...♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:33, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Need your opinion
[edit]I am asking you because your page says you are one of the 40 active wikipedians.
There is an article called 2011 Tucson shootings. A Congresswoman was shot and a Judge killed. Also 5 others killed. The 5 others are not famous people. I think that they should not be listed like this.
Killed:
John Smith
Jane Anderson
Mary Smith
Please let me know how you feel or you can write it here. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:2011_Tucson_shooting#Dead_people_should_not_be_listed I am asking only 1 person, you. Jimbo Wales is a bigger person but he is too busy. Madrid 2020 (talk) 02:12, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Nancy Carnevale
[edit]I restored the notability tag on the Nancy Carnevale article. Receiving an American Book Award does not establish notability. The subject does not meet the WP:ACADEMIC or WP:AUTHOR criteria. The article lacks support through significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. At this point, I chose to alert the article's author, rather than nominating for deletion. Regards, Cind.amuse 17:27, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
The article René Lefèvre (journalist) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No claim of notability in this unsourced BLP.

Clint Eastwood
[edit]Clint Eastwood is just about to undergo GA review within the next 24 hours. If you could give it a read and make any last minute copyedits I'd be grateful.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:12, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Its very comprehensive I think, given that between us Nehrams and I have covered 4 books on him, but I had to remove quite a bit of material to sub articles in order to make it an accpetable length which I'd have preferred had remained...I managed to retain most though by simply rewording and sticking to the bare essentials.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:25, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
I think it just needs grammar/wording proofing that's all. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes.♦ Dr. Blofeld 23:31, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:24, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm in the sub-stubbing mood right now. French chateaus me thinks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:01, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Just by looking around there are many users now who make way more edits than I do, especially AWBers. I wouldn't be surprised if I drop out of the "top 20" by count in a year or two. I think you'll overtake me in edit count this year.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:45, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Me neither. You are around 50,000 edits behind me now... You'll definately pass me eventually, unless you stop editing/AWBing. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:01, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
You sound as if you need to forget about wikipedia for a few weeks and come back refreshed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:40, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Same here as I recently remember saying... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:45, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Can you use AWB to add infoboxes to the Hungarian villages you started last night like this (I've done A) and ensure if you start the remaining later you add infboxes first time. If you subst:pagename the title in the infobox it shouldn't require any extra effort upon initial creation. It sjust makes it easier later when coordinates and population data is added. Thanks!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:44, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Indeed, excellent work with the Antarctica stub sorting too. You should go back to creating stubs I think. Moaning about "sub stubs" is so 2008.... Wikipedia is going to be around for a long long time by the looks of it so why not start content which can be built upon... if you do start any settlements though, ensure you have an infobox with the country name and region/district and then start them.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:49, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I heard the Golden Globes and Ricky Gervais didn't go down too well in Washington? I did see clips of it. I must admit I did laugh at the Hugh Hefner joke though. LOL if the states is shocked at Gervais one can only imagine what they'd think of Frankie Boyle or Jethro (comedian)!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:14, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Byron Fidetzis picture
[edit]Greetings (again :))
I would like to replace the picture on the Byron Fidetzis page (with this one http://www.koa.gr/resources/fidetzis-2009.jpg ) but I am not qualified to upload media content on wikipedia. Ironically, over the years I have made many changes on pages here and there, but not as a logged-in user.
There must not be any copyright conflict with the image I suggest. It is taken from the official Athens State Orchestra web-page, and permission from Mr. Fidetzis himself has been granted.
So, I am asking you to change the picture instead of me.
I thank you in advance.

Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretariat
[edit]Could you try and reference your articles, please? Ironholds (talk) 15:09, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- It's also listed as an external link, not a reference; the policy on that notes that "Sites that have been used as sources in the creation of an article should be cited in the article, and linked as references, either in-line or in a references section" If you could switch that around? An inline citation would be best - one of (many) advantages is that if someone adds unreferenced text to the article, we can tell fairly quickly. Without inline citations, that's not always possible.
- Brilliant! Thanks, Ironholds (talk) 15:44, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
If you could alter the stub tag for Eastern Province in Divisional Secretariats of Sri Lanka from Central to Eastern up until Koralaib using AWB this would be great. The stub tag is supposed to be eastern obviously unlike Alayadiwembu Divisional Secretariat etc..♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:55, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Bang duck, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The artist has an article, so A9 does not apply. This may well not pass WP:NSONGS, no source or indication of notability - consider PROD or AfD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 15:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
How dare you even consider deleting it!! Pure talent. LOL. Make sure you listen to it when you get home, its like something concocted by Kevin and Perry. The Black Eyed Peas are as Bach was to classical music compared to this...♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:31, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

i've expanded Tojg a little. Some info can be ound for a lot of villages I think although some are as a dead as a dodo in google books. I'd say though its only a matter of time. The fact is all of the villages and towns are real, verifiable places so will make their way onto the web in due course.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:26, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
AWB access
[edit]Hi there Ser Amantio di Nicolao, this is to inform you that I have removed your access to the AutoWikiBrowser, a semi-automated tool designed for speeding up otherwise tedious, minor changes. This is because you have been using this tool against the bot policy (link), and against it's terms of use (link).
The specific part of the bot policy you have violated is the rules on mass article creation, the community is very much agreed (consensus here is not difficult to judge) that semi-automated tools such as AWB should not be used to mass-create article pages (and possible shortly, pages in other namespaces). You have violated AWB's rule of use #1, as you are failing to check edits before saving, and effectively running a bot, therefore also breaking #2. How do I conclude this? Well looking at the following report:
Extended content
|
---|
|
you appear to be taking about 2-3 seconds between some edits (and in one case 1 second), not only is this leading to mistakes by you, it's also flooding the new pages list (having autopatrolled is only preventative to a certain extent). Speaking of mistakes, you appeared to make a mistake in a whole batch of creations, and then attempted to fix them by using AWB again and therefore making even further mistakes (see here), this displays to me that you aren't really taking mistakes seriously enough or working hard enough to make sure you don't make them, and that you fix them and learn from them. For these reasons you should no longer use AWB, if at some point in the future you can prove that you are able to follow the rules of use, you may be granted access again. - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:56, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- AWB is incredibly useful for certain tasks, but it is indeed all too easy to stray into controversial editing, and then it just becomes a a stressful and time consuming experience. You're not the only user to experience this and I'm sure you won't be the last. Enjoy your well earned break from that kind of editing, however, I won't be discouraging you from resuming AWB once you are happy to use it how it's designed to be used. All the best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 23:57, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

No worries mate. All Hail should be able to use the google book ref link I gave him so he can make better notability judgements in the future. He's a decent bloke. There are far worse people who make article assessments on wikipedia and pass themselves off as credible articles reviewers and when I protest at an article being promoted to GA with a mere 6 sources and length 7.5kb I apparently have no right to and am sort of scoffed at as "How dare the King of Micro stubs say this article is not comprehensive and detailed enough".... Funny but I'd never heard of Clawdd Coch yet its barely 10-15 minutes drive from my house! Of course I know of Pendoylan but when you drive through you barely notice the little hamlets and presume they are part of the main village... I know of the vast majority of little settlements of the south and southwest of the Vale of Glamorgan but admittedly my knowledge of the north and northwest of it is not very good... Of course if I'm going up into the valleys, like shopping in Ebbw Vale I'm not exactly going to drive along tiny country lanes to get there... Some day I must explore that area. Its probably the same with you... You probably hadn't have heard of some of the unincorporated places even in the next county to you....♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:43, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, its the same with me and Bridgend County Borough. I've just looked on a google map and I barely recognise any of the village names let alone the tiny hamlets!! But again its the northern part I'm clueless about. You see whenever I go down Bridgend way its usually to Porthcawl on the coast. When you drive there the northern part of the county is sort of no mans land. I actually know more about the villages in Rhondda Cynnon Taf than I do Bridgend or Monmouthshire etc. Beyond that I am embarrasingly unknowledegable and ignorant of welsh geography. I can barely think of 5 settlements in western/mid/northern Wales. Fishguard, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, now I'm really struggling!!! Southwest coast I know well like Milford Haven, Pembroke, Carmarthen, Amroth etc but everywhere else in Wales really dreadful how little i know...♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:27, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah that's what I mean you know of those places because they are along the main road to get from A to B . There are a lot of places way off the main road arteries that is sort of a No Man's Land that they lead to know where so you don't go there.. UNless of course you make a concious adventure trip exploring... I have been to northwest Wales once when I was 3 or so... Morfa Nefyn. All I remember is a beautiful but rather cold old stone cottage that we stayed at and running in the fields with the sheep. Lovely place. Now that far north of Plas yn Rhiw actually, other side of the Llyn Peninsula..♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:48, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Tojg
[edit]On 29 January 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tojg, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that a 300-metre (980 ft) long bridge has been recently built near Tojg, in western Afghanistan, funded by the Commander's Emergency Response Program? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Kyron
[edit]FYI - I have started a new article, Disappearance of Kyron Horman, which you may be interested in since you voted to keep Kyron Horman in the last AfD. I believe that an article about the event itself would not fail WP:BLP1E like the original biographical article on the victim did. There is a ton of coverage, so sources are not a problem. Feel free to add to the article if you like. Thanks! SnottyWong comment 23:21, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Ciao Ser Amantio. Thanks for adding the category to Mary Burce Warlick. Do you by any chance know if there is a category for Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy alumni. [edit]Hang on; there is sufficient evidence that modern aerial warfare is conducted by ONE air operations database (AODB), and that Mr. Jim Bradshaw (retired USAF major, civilian, Shaw AFB, Sumter SC), is the head of this highly classified department. Don't delete an entire biography based on bias or political views, or personal views; check the sources and check for the relevance. There is always ONE air operations database manager in position at Al Udeid Air Base for the whole of the middle east at all times, and this is a fact of history and a fact of life, and a fact of the modern air war.
Check the sources, because you clearly haven't spent any time reading the references at all, to find any information that pertains to these facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KnightofZion (talk • contribs) 12:29, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Roberto González Goyri
[edit]On 12 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Roberto González Goyri, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Guatemalan Roberto González Goyri, who was awarded the Order of the Quetzal, illustrated a children's book in Cubist style? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. There is a discussion starting up at Talk:Batavia (disambiguation), that may be of interest to you. The subject is technically a page move discussion, but the purpose of the discussion is to decide where Batavia should redirect. Until earlier today, Batavia redirected to History of Jakarta, but during this discussion, it is redirecting to Batavia (disambiguation). Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for your help. HuskyHuskie (talk) 22:41, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
You are receiving this because you are one of the principal editors of one of the articles that is linked to Batavia (disambiguation). This notice is being posted to all of the top three editors of each of these articles (in terms of total edits), with the following exceptions:

- anonymous IP editors
- editors who, despite ranking in the top three of edits to an article, have only a single edit to said article

[edit]Quick tip; when you 'welcome' please {{subst:welcome}}
instead of transcluding it; there's some note about it somewhere. Mostly, it's less confusing for the new user, plus the template might change later and it's nice to see exactly what was 'said' to them. Also, please put the 'welcome' into a == Section == because it tends to get the new person used to the idea of sections. See [3]. Cheers, Chzz ► 16:54, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Zoom in to street view directly on the green arrow. You'll see the road going off. Just turn northeast along the A82 road towards Lenie and you'll see it standing just beyond the entrance at the side of the road in a white suit like The Stig but it vanishes if you look at it the other way. I think the google earth driver must be in on the joke as it vanishes... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:36, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I found this treasure trove of info on contemporary Arab literature in the Banipal website.. http://www.banipal.co.uk/contributors/ .. there's over 600 author mini-profiles in this index from Morocco all the way to Syria/Jordan and the Gulf. L'Enfant Plaza or The Portals?
[edit]I saw this image — File:EndofLenfantPlaza.jpg — on Commons. I believe this building is part of The Portals, a four-building complex (which includes the Mandarin Hotel) located on Maryland Avenue SW. The building in the image is The Portals III at 1201 Maryland Avenue SW. The Portals development is not part of L'Enfant Plaza (it is its own development, constructed after 1981 and designed by the Edward Weihe architectural firm). - Tim1965 (talk) 01:32, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for being the medium of an introduction to The Medium. I followed the link to the article which is performance detail/synopsis-oriented but doesn't give any clue why Menotti should have been bothered to write the opera. If you know of an acceptable source to refer me to I'll try and fill in a bit. That's the pleasure and problem with Wikipedia, too much distraction. Opbeith (talk) 12:29, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. And no pressure, as and when. The story sounds just ever so slightly over the top, so it's interesting to know there's a bit of substance to it. Opbeith (talk) 19:41, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
No apologies! That's why for all its pains I love Wikipedia - all the interesting places it takes you that you'd never have bought a ticket for. I tend to assume there's a purpose to most things creative people do or choose, however strange or exaggerated, so the challenge is to work out why they've made what seems a strange choice. The synopsis of The Medium is pretty bizarre, that's what interested me (mind you, a lot of operas seem to come from the fruitcake shelf of the bakery). I'll have to try and give it a listen. Opbeith (talk) 21:15, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, Hawkeye. Unfortunately Netflix doesn't like people living outside the 50 States (plus Washington DC), but the DVD is bound to be around somewhere if I keep looking. I've an opera-hating friend who's nevertheless an expert on sources of classical DVDs. I'll look forward to getting the flavour of it - eventually. Opbeith (talk) 22:43, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks, that's a beautiful clip. It's a beautifully sung duet. Looks like Mme Flora's having trouble defining the boundary between art and reality - if that really is part of the theme, and not just me imposing it, the duet's a nice insight. Opbeith (talk) 14:01, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, got sidetracked off to Margaret Creek and learning a bit about pre-Columbian US, something I'm very ignorant about. Re Mme Flora, I was thinking of "art" in the sense of "artifice" - I understand exactly what you mean by your reference to "fiction". The clip in itself was perfect - I'm not in relaxed enough mode to appreciate the full thing at the moment so that's another pleasure in store. Opbeith (talk) 11:54, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Eros, Inside Eros.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Eros, Inside Eros.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. border collies
[edit]Hi, I'm a bit new to Wikipedia editing. As a former Bard College student my update to the Border Collies article was definitely not vandalism...? I apologize for hitting the edit button a couple of times instead of the preview button; most of such edits were trying to get the formatting for intra-Wikipedia links working correctly. I was trying to link back to beta particles, since Beta (the dog) is named after them, but the way I originally had it formatted was linking to a dead page; which shouldn't have been the case, since the first hit for "beta particle" on Google is the wikipedia page. It took a couple of tries but I finally had it working when I discovered that you overwrote my edit as "vandalism".

Hi. :) I'm really concerned about the copyright status of this image. No doubt you took the photo, but the problem is that it prominently displays a sculpture in the United States. Some countries have freedom of panorama laws that permit you to take and license photographs of sculptures, but the United States is not among them. (See Commons:Commons:Freedom of Panorama#United States). I think unless a non-free argument can be made for this that we may not be able to retain it, unless there is some other reason that the sculpture is not protected by copyright. I wanted to bring it to your attention so we could figure out the best way to approach this. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:05, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. Weirdly, even though it doesn't have "fair use" provisions, Commons can be more liberal in what they accept. Or maybe that's not weird; maybe that's connected. :D I can list it at WP:PUF for review if you'd like to see if an argument to retain it can be made. Since the sculptor isn't a federal employee, though, I'm kind of doubting that the federal property angle will work. :) Alternatively, maybe we could ask at WP:MCQ and, if they think not, you could tag it for {{Db-g7}}. I understand the confusion on this point; I've never done much with images before coming to Wikipedia, FOP was news to me as well. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:54, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- All right, will do. I'll be back in a minute with a link. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:01, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's here. I notice that the article on the actual sculpture does have a fair use image in it, so we may be able to determine which of the two images is a better representation. I think the article itself needs work, though; I'm personally not comfortable asserting fair use if I think the court might go, "Yeah, right," and since that article has no critical commentary whatsoever I worry that could be the case. Anyway, maybe somebody at PuF will come up with something. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:10, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- No shame in that; it's a big Wiki with lots of room for specialization. :D I never hesitate to ask for help from people who work in areas I do not. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:29, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

style problems
[edit]hi, thanks for the welcome, even though it was probably a bot? i have some style questions that i thought you could answer - in certain articles, image/text flow is messed up, and they overlap. That really bothers me, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Is there a general solution, or page of possible solutions to this problem?
also, what do you think of MLA citations? I think that if an article is properly referenced in MLA, you would lose page number information if you wanted to move the page to list-defined references - since page numbers are supposed to be written in a separate in-text citation, not the full citation. should mla citations be changed/discouraged? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Romnempire (talk • contribs) 17:28, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Don't mess
[edit]Now that's somebody I wouldn't mess with!!!.... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 00:46, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Must be the photograph, he does like a bit like User:David Shankbone at times LOL. Try this. He looks hard as nails in my view, 6 ft 8 and 280 pounds of solid muscle too. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:00, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Well the photo in his wiki article does make him look more like a gay sunburned pool attendment in the Costa del Sol or something rather than a hard nosed fighter LOL. That's probably why you didn't think he looked hard.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:50, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
LOL, what after all that gym work? He really doesn't look 280 pounds though. More like 240. Most approaching 300 are either very fat or built like a sumo wrestler or Magnus Samuelsson ... I guess being almost 6'8" and pure muscle accounts for being "super heavyweight". Anything over 250 is massive.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:08, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Anything you want stubbed?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:22, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Yikes when was that? I thought you were around 200. The heaviest I've ever been is 227 pounds christmas 2008 or 2009 I think and I really felt heavy. I seem to have got my old metabolism back now with the cycling so I can eat a Cornish pasty or curry and it doesn't notice! I try to avoid them mostly though but it gets boring eating vegetables every day, I'm about 208 at the moment which at my height is ideal. If I got down to 200 or below on my frame I'd start to look skinny.
I'll look into developing some nice lists for Mali and Nigeria like Guinea this week. The list of hotels is priority right now to get some listed in all of the empty countries. Actually I think I can manage beginning a Mali list later...♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:28, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
That's a start with Mali anyway at least... Nigeria's a biggy....♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:57, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Quite scary really to think of what is missing historically for places like Dol-de-Bretagne. I've mentioned one saint and a king of the 6th century, imagine how many notable figures there were in that commune alone, let alone all of Brittany and all of France over a thousand years... I'd estimate at present we are missing at least 99% of notable Breton and French figures and old monasteries and churches etc. Imagine what is probably found in local history records for each commune over 1500-2000 years,, notable barons and landowners in genealogy records... Would be interesting to be able to understand ol Breton and visit the library in Rennes or something or wherever.. Same with Habsburg nobleman etc. The content missing is ginormous for such topics I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:17, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Yemen
[edit]Wow, who'd have thought that one of my Yemeni geo sub stubs would have actually had people living in it, let alone a munitions factory eh? I'm being sarcastic but this is exactly what i mean about life taking place in such parts of the world which the rest are mostly ignorant of..♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:46, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Having information in google books on it though is quite something. Yemen is notoriously bad for web sources as we both know...♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:03, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Trouble is rarely a good thing but all this attention at the moment on the middle eastern countries which often get neglected like Libya, Tunisia and Yemen is good for content...♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:51, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
The SSSI's are definitely notable. In fact the ones I do know of in my county are amongst the best spots. That's why I assume the others are. Wasn't aware they were SSSIs but I can see why they are...Merthyr Mawr Dunes are so awesome infact that they filmed part of Lawrence of Arabia there! I remember we went there on a geography trip several times to collect samples and the shrubs in the area are wild as hell!! Its exhausting walking across them... Is good having the articles on here as it fills in important rural areas which the villages don't cover..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:19, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
There are exactly the sort of places which the Cardiff library would have a lot of info about and local libraries all across the country with SSSIs in their area. I remember doing research for my geography A-level and degree in Cardiff library and it had stacks of info about local environmental studies and that. In fact it was quite irritating at times because I was trying to find information about the actual tidal flats and Cardiff Bay Barrage and all I could find was damn truck loads of papers about the SSSI bird habitat!! Most of them were like type written back in the 1980s by the council... Of course geograph will also come in useful for this.... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:46, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah its the county libraries which I think can prove extremely valuable. Again its mind boggling what could potentially be written about.... Right I'll finish those Comoros settlements and then I'll be all clear to start more SSSIs tomorrow and perhaps get those Japanese dams all started..♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:15, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
See this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:45, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
I think that idea for presentation is a fantastic idea and given that I'm highly stimulated by visual images I love the way it is presented, makes learning fun and easy. Its a pity though that it doesn't cover the whole of the articles.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:15, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah it can only get better as viewers can point out the mispronounciations.. Its definitely a new benchmark in information presentation on the web though i think.. See this how the zoom in location and photos are presented. Awesome. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:30, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
My only complaint about it is that it is a summary. It tends to ignore the important content of the central article and just covers the intro and bottom paragraph. If it covered the whole article with the article text fully on the screen it would be much better. This is exactly the sort of development I've been waiting for. It makes it much more fun and I find it is likely to improve your concentration and interest because it is spoken and the text appears in sizeable chunks. My only wish is that the technology had been introduced on here first and that they were more passionate about developing new methods. This is at least a glimmer of what potential the internet has. The most enjoyable articles are those which have videos in them. I really think wikipedia should have been developing this to accompany the articles and could introduce a video commons in which videos of places can be used in the presentations.. Although knowing how anal wikipedia is about images its probably best that another side did this anyway...♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:54, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
The thing is if we don't compete these websites will make millions off of us and steal many of our viewers/potential editors. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:36, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Well its sort of a good insight into the future of the Internet. I am pretty sure that the wikipedia text will always be around and continously improved and new exciting methods created in using it. Its still early internet days but I reckon by 2020, 2025 we will increasingly see more interactive media, eventually perhaps on wikipedia itself. Juat like the google art view walking around the inside of museums and that with virtual views combined with written text. Ultimately I'd like to see virtual technology when you can walk around any city in the world and learn about landmarks in some sort of 3D virtual environment. I reckon that'll happen by 2100. I watched a documentary about it a few years back and they think that even by 2025 this sort of thing will begin developing on the internet and like 3D games interaction online etc. Bit too geeky stuff for me but big potential...♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:19, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Perhaps you would consider Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Proposal to require autoconfirmed status in order to create articles worth commenting on,..♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:36, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
DGG's post you'd probably agree with too. This sort of proposal makes you angry doesn't it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:59, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Way I see it is imagine you are a newbie from India or something. You want to start an article on a temple in your district and have some info from a historical gazeteer or something, No imagine you are an overworked computer operator or something with a family, your time is limited on the web but you want wikipedia to have the article. a] you got to be bothered to create an account b] you now have to make 10 edits and wait for days editing other articles is not what you want to edit and you want to contribute RIGHT NOW at that moment.you can't and might not feel like it or have time in 4 days time. So it has the effect of, I won't bother then... I really don't see how waiting 4 days would change the quality of edits. if they are really bad they ar eusually speedied anyway. Its a damn foolish proposal and one which people are blind to how damaging it would prove in the long term in terms of systematic bias and coverage. Anything which deters editors from content contribution however young is just wrong.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:20, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Darn, can you remove Cat.Churches in Italy from these new articles?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:20, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Category move?
[edit]Hi Ser Amantio, I saw your addition of the category tag "Rangoon University alumni" on Myo Min Zaw. I'm glad you put it on there, but this category's a bit outdated now that the university has been renamed Yangon University since 1989. I know the procedure for pages, but not categories. How would I go about proposing this one be renamed and moved? Or should I just do so? It's further complicated, of course, by the fact that some of these people did get their degrees at "Rangoon" and not "Yangon." Thanks for the guidance, and for all you do category-wise, --Khazar (talk) 18:31, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

We have 957 Turkish districts and settlement categories for each of them on Turkish wikipedia with multiple articles.. Rural Turkey is very poorly covered, much much worse than most of Europe it would seem... I think we should at least have articles on every village by country in Europe.. I really think its time for a large scale stub run. Because at least with Europe the articles can nearly always be expanded/ or have some info on another wikipedia... i should concentrate on the Thai tambons and European villages by country I think...♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:18, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Normally I'd have copied the pop data from Turkish wiki but they out of every 10 or so articles I checked so far they had cocked it up everytime and added the incorrect population figure which was stated in the source... Well I did make a start on Norwegian villages a week or two ago. Sweden also needs doing.. Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Austria. Czech Republic, Switzerland. Slovenia, Hungary and Slovakia would seemingly be well covered already, although I suspect there are many missing villages beneath commune level, like the frazioni. Romanian policy seems to redirect every village to the commune, despite them containing no info mostly.. Big remaining ones to hit for Europe would be Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Croatia, Albania, remaining Serbia and Bosnia, Bulgaria and Turkey.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:34, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah France seems to contain 36,000 small communes so most only have the main village and another small village if they are lucky and a handful of tiny hamlets. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:56, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Category: Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin
[edit]Hi-I have a request for a category for the Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin. I am working on articles on people who were Sups of PI Wisconsin. I know the other constitutional offices of Wisconsin hace category. I have created categories for members of the various US territorial legislatures in the past and ordinally, I would do this myself. However, the title Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin is a little cumbersome. You might make this simple. In the article itself there is a wikileak to the list of the sups starting with Eleazer Root. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you-RFD (talk) 12:33, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your comments. Many of these articles involving Wisconsin politician had been redlinks and no one bother to start any articles. The Wisconsin Historical Society has excellent information. Again many thanks-RFD (talk) 14:52, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

For over 300,000 edits
[edit]The Wiki-halo
For making 300,000 edits to English wikipedia. Well done!Tibetan Prayer ᧾ 16:56, 6 June 2011 (UTC) |
Well, you seemed to have gone from 100,000 to 300,000 relatively quickly. A pity though you no longer use AWB, but if you are busy, probably a good thing!Tibetan Prayer ᧾ 18:32, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Mmm I've come across a poorly covered island, New Caledonia! I think I'll cover it inch by inch on google maps over the next few days. Sure is a lot of bays! And we now have 61 rivers as opposed to none earlier!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:10, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
I think I'll start with an exploration of each island. I can start articles on things like rivers, bays, islands, villages etc and then move on. Vanuatu is the next substantial set of islands. Would be good to have coverage on every major feature of every major Pacific Island, even if just stubs for now. Best thing is to study them using google earth and try to build a detailed coverage.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:21, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Ooh its really enjoyable navigating the islands in 3D. CHeck out Wallis and Futuna this on google earth when you get home. What I'm going to try to do then is piece together a detailed coverage of each island of the Pacific using google earth for navigation. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:41, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Can you wikilink List of cities in Wallis and Futuna. I'll start them all tomorrow.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:48, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Just got time to make a pin locator map for use tomorrow then. Thanks!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll start one now and do the rest tomorrow. I think though my map is slightly out. Could be the extreme west alignment, dunno.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:08, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- The map looks fine to me. I think you just had bad coordinates for one place. The extreme west/east is only a problem for ones that cross +/-180 if I recall. Frietjes (talk) 22:30, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Just beein browsing. There are a great number of islands of Vanuatu and Solomon Islands in which each island could be covered village by village. But it extends into Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Basically I want to cover settlements from 90 degrees east through to 120 degrees west, which is all of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomons, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga etc all the way through to Pitcairn. I want to be able to zoom in on the most remote village in the middle of Papua New Guinea to a remote Vanuatan island and read an article about it. I tell you what though by far the most "secretive" area of the world is in the middle of Papua New Guinea. Looking on google maps you can just imagine unknown tribes untouched throughout time living there living like stone age men... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:37, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
"Overcategorization"
[edit]Hi there AMANTIO, VASCO from Portugal here,
in all my years of editing, i've always seen that category as just TWIN PEOPLE, hence i referred to your input as overcategorization, feeling that the country was irrelevant.
I remember bringing forth the discussion once, and there was still no consensus after a couple of weeks. If you like, please undo me, i won't re-revert even though i don't agree.
Sorry for any incovenience, keep up the good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:01, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]You may be interested in seeing this. I think my mission with the Athenaeum is over with the 1,500 characters for the DYK. My goal is to bring List of museums in Virginia to Featured List within one year by doing DYKs for all the redlinked museums (and there's a lot of them), and then starting to write a decent well referenced summary worthy of FL. Divide et Impera (talk) 15:27, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- Where could I find the nomination form for the Athenaeum, so that I can add something on architecture and proceed towards Good Article? The NRHP Reference just gives basic information. Also, feel free to step in for the Cherry Hill Farmhouse in Falls Church, so that we can bring it to DYK together. Thanks! Divide et Impera (talk) 13:23, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- No need for apologies, you have actually been extremely helpful and inspiring! I'll check the websites and will pay a visit at the Athenaeum: Actually I already dropped there last Sunday morning, but they are open from 4 to 6 only on Sundays.... Divide et Impera (talk) 16:06, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- Haha, made me laugh with your "death to redlinks". I haven't seen neither the reservations nor the two museums. I promise I'll activate an email soon so that you can send those pics to me: I can upload them in commons and improve the articles. Unless, you can give me a flash drive next Saturday, :-). And, I was skimming through your many DYKs. It was very nice to read your musicians and the music pieces DYKs. Divide et Impera (talk) 16:31, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Interview request
[edit]Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao,
My name is Hannah and I am an MSc student at Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. I am currently working on my thesis titled ‘The Relationship between Quality of Collaborative Knowledge and Authorship: A Comparative Case Study of Google Knol vs. Wikipedia’. I’m aiming to compare quality of articles from Google Knol and Wikipedia and I need your help in identifying what authors do to make sure they write the best quality article.
If you agree to participate, you will be interviewed via email, Skype or any other means of your choice.
With your help, I hope to learn about the impact that the unique structural design of the two services have on article quality and thus hopefully for the Internet industry, increase awareness of the implications of design choices for the quality of user-generated content.
All data you provide will be anonymised and stored confidentially. You may withdraw at any time without prejudice and without providing a reason. In the event of withdrawal, data you already provided will immediately be removed.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at hannah.kim at oii.ox.ac.uk I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.
Best, Hannah --Trinityhk (talk) 08:26, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for agreeing to participate, but I couldn't find your email. It would be grateful if you could email me at hannah.kim@oii.ox.ac.uk Trinityhk (talk) 15:27, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Premature moving Leveson-Gower, Admiral
[edit]You may be good and an old hand, but you did not consider that there were two Leveson-Gower, John (admiral), father and son. Which is a better title then? Besides you are supposed to be nice to new people. Nice is when you explain your actions first. ∼∼∼ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fritzelblitz (talk • contribs) 20:24, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
thanks for patching up
[edit]Dudley Talcott. I just got into this area where there seem to be lots of articles that need to happen and . . ........ and it's too late. Anyway, glad that you are still sharp. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 05:16, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
I need the category maestro to look for some articles to add this title to and if possible create a Gaelic-language novels etc. Once you've found a few i'll scout for some more articles. I was shocked there was no category! Ah, seems ro be Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic split. Sure is disorganized at a root level though and of course poor coverage. Where are all of the Gaelic language book articles?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:02, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Problem is the amount of forks. Like we have Category:Gaelic literature, Category:Scottish Gaelic literature, Category:Irish-language literature and very little organization or content.. Like you except at least a few Gaelic newspapers and that..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:39, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Maybe the Gaelic-language should be the mother category and each one split as Category:Scottish Gaelic-language and Category:Irish Gaelic language. But then there is the inconsistency of Irish Gaelic language, vs Irish Gaelic vs Irish language... Urgh I hate forks...♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:46, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Can you find cats for Philippe Fanoko Kossi Kpodzro, like Togolese Roman Catholic bishops, Archbishops of Lome or something?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:58, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Have I been diverse enough the last few days?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:30, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
I just want wikipedia to cover the world evenly and as detailed as possible! Its just mind blowing how many possibilities there are! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:46, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
File:The Flåmsbana.jpg. Featured picture quality?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:17, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
I thought you'd have created the category in Real Mas..♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:52, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Wouldn't that be Dominican Republican culture? Can you help me split Category:Populated places in Ghana by region? I started on Volta region the other night. Category:Towns in Ghana needs emptying too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:57, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Well if you do feel like doing any can you continue with eastern region onwards of the district capital templates doing e.g this, adding the templates and cat changing at the same time.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:34, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Trying to erradicate a bad joke you had sniffed
[edit]Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I address you this since you appear to have sniffed this joke as far back as November 2009 [5]. It was reinserted later the same day: [6]. I think someone has created and keeps sustaining a fictitious character, much like Flann O'Brien's De Selby: "Howard Bown" a cult play writer of the 1800s. It appears in 3 english wikipedia articles [7] and in many-many sites mirroring or deriving material from wikipedia, and hell, even in a book(!): [8] [9]. I see indications it has invaded other language wikipedias as well: [10] (see under Paysandu). I find no trace of him in any other important source on literature. It must have also been on an unnotable article I asked Dr.Blofeld to speedy delete: [11].
Here is the beginning probably (29 April 2008): [12] "Some local knowledge on history added". IP 92.2.2.203 is registered in Leeds, UK. It was reinserted (10 November 2009) by IP 92.2.208.18 of Wrexham, Wales, while also inserting it in Tacuarembó [13]. No one reverted, and now he is back to cultivate the character more: Here is the edit that introduced it in Bootle just a month ago: [14], replacing Mark Ford (poet). IP 92.18.108.164 is from Manchester, UK. It's a one hit and go IP btw. I will delete all three, but I have to keep searching wikipedia for future insertions of "Howard Bown". Cheers. Ryan kirkpatrick back again
[edit]G'day again from Oz; actually, he never goes away does he? I have reopened the SPI due to this new user, but there is always activity by IPs in the ranges used by him. YSSYguy (talk) 00:34, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
The article Bernard Gérard (intelligence officer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Completely unsourced BLP since 2008. Fails WP:GNG. No sources on french wiki either.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 21:02, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
