Hi, I made a picture and uploaded it and forgot to add the copyright information. This is my own work, it's called Flips.png, and I wish to release it to the public domain, but I can't find how to do that. I found a tag, but I don't know where to put it. I'm new at Wikipedia edits. Can you please help? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whiteglitter79 (talkcontribs) 13:44, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what it's called, but there's a system for a regional notice that shows up in the watchlist of any user in a certain area. If that doesn't work, give the the message and the category, and I'll run it tomorrow afternoon. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 02:43, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

What is the point of the redirect pages listed on User:ST47/--DUP? Some of them were tagged for speedy deletion, so I deleted them under WP:CSD#G6. Nishkid64 (talk) 09:19, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They were created by an automatic script, and it's a list of duplicate pages from the WP: to Wikipedia: namespace merge. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 18:59, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unexpected CSDWarnBot message

[edit]

Hi. CSDWarnBot left a message on my talk page warning me of the CSD of Full Disclosure Network. The weird part is, that wasn't a page I created, and not one I even know anything about. I can't say for sure I never edited that page (I make a lot of minor edits to random pages), I can't really figure out what might have made the bot think I should be warned. Can you shed any light on this? Thanks either way. —DragonHawk (talk|hist) 22:04, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you created it 15:31, 16 September 2006 (EST) with summary "(create stub from redlink on dab page)". --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 22:13, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You care to explain why you reverted my edit on my picture? Alyeska (talk) 05:27, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image is orphaned. WP:NFCC#7. Very simple, very clear policy. If it stays that way for a week, it needs to be deleted. This is policy. We cannot have non-free images visible unless there is a clear need for them. There is no need for these images unless they are used in a mainspace article. This is not. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 11:28, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The image is not orphaned as it is being used in a discussion page. You delete the image and its evidence in that discussion disapears. Alyeska (talk) 16:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I note your bot - STBotI - has been tagging images that have been uploaded by the above user. This user has been removing the copyright absence template from these replacing them with a caption. In some cases such as Image:Inverkip.jpg that he has applied a note state he took the picture and a URL to a site with the same picture, but attributed to another user. I am not sure how widespread this is, however I have found at least three instances so far. I am concerned that this user does not understand what is required when adding images. Myself and another user (User:Pyrotec) have posted to his talk page (which has multiple bot warnings about image uploads), but to no avail. I have been manually reinserting a lack of copyright tag, but I feel that this issue needs the assistance of an admin. Admin User talk:Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry was on the case yesterday, however he is not around this evening, and as your bot has been doing some of the work, I thought it prudent to bring this to your attention. --Stewart (talk) 20:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jerzy Cichocki page

[edit]

Dear ST47,

I have repeatedly been assaulted by other administrators due to the fact that I have been trying to delete a page called Jerzy Cichocki. Dr. Jerzy is my choir conductor, and he asked that I remove this Wikipedia page, when I have done so, the page is automatically reverted to its original state. Could I ask that you swiftly delete this page, as a Wikipedian administrator?

Your help and kindness would be greatly appreciated.

edits to templates in Category:Country data templates

[edit]

Please do not remove the non-free image names from these templates when you edit them. You are leaving these templates in a broken state. One solution is to leave a placeholder such as Image:Sin bandera.svg, but you simply cannot leave a template variable set to nothing. Please read the complete documentation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template before making widespread changes to these templates. Thanks, — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 16:41, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you should use sane syntax and follow policy. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 16:53, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What is "sane syntax"? There is far less obscurity in the flag template system than in many ultra-parameterized infoboxes. And I don't WP:OWN all thousand templates in that category, I merely help manage them. The onus is on the editors who create each of them to use non-free images. As for policy, I would ask you to heed your own advice and ensure images are not being used in mainspace articles before you delink them or delete them. Thanks for your help. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 17:16, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ARES Logo removed from my userbox...

[edit]

ST47 - Recently, your "ImageBacklogBot" removed the reference to the ARES logo from one of my userboxes. As an FCC-licensed amateur radio operator, AND a member of the local ARES group, I am entitled to use that logo to identify myself as a member. Ever since ARES was establised, amateurs involved in ARES have been using the logo on shirts, hats, websites, jackets, you name it. This is one instance where use of a logo does NOT constitute copyright infringement.

I will get the specifics on the logo and use of it from the Amateur Radio Relay League, if you'd like... Edit Centric (talk) 22:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The arrl website, arrl.org, states that all material on the website is copyright, and we cannot use such material on Wikipedia unless it follows WP:NFCC. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 23:12, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, however the same website, specifically Logos and Photos, states that; "ARES members may use the ARES logo on their on their own personal QSL cards, stationery, business cards and web pages." Since individual userpages would seem to be one type of "personal webpage", albeit with some content restrictions, then Wikipedia users who are also ARES members are expressly allowed BY the ARRL to display the graphic. What we NEED to do, instead of deletion, is figure out where this fits in WITHIN the policy guidelines. Also, use of the graphic within the article for "scholarly purposes" as defined by Fair Use laws is also permissible. So, how do I go about adding these rationales, so that the logo is NOT deleted? Edit Centric (talk) 23:47, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If that's true, then the image needs to say so, but that goes into strange grounds. Policy doesn't allow these sort of 'limited permission' images: "All images which are for non-commercial only use and by permission only are not acceptable for Wikipedia and _will be deleted_." --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 00:23, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully, Wikimedia Foundation proper can shed some light on this one, I've just sent them some e-mail on the topic... Edit Centric (talk) 00:29, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Wiki User, Needs Help with Image Citation

[edit]

Hey, you're bot dropped a message on My Talk page saying that I have not cited an image. I followed the links, and 20 minutes later have no idea what the proper tag is for my image. I took it off a website, I have the website, so now what do I do with that? Thanks. --Rolen05 (talk) 05:39, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What type of image is it? --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 13:18, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey ST-47, based upon OUR recent conversation about images (I now see your point, by the way!), I touched base with Rolen05 regarding the image in question. It looks to be a "baseball card" type image of Jeff Suppan, copied from a website. The only question is WHERE it was copied from, and what kind of copyright applies... Edit Centric (talk) 18:04, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We can assume that it's non-free, so {{non-free 2D art}} can apply. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 19:29, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ST - This is a copy-paste from MY talk page; "Alright, I got the image from [3]. If you want to see the image on the site itself, do a search for the phrase "Tigers in Six". It's kind of a long blog. Now that I look at it, it looks like the guy in the blog got the image from [4]. The image looks like it came from Getty Images.
So in short, random images found off of Google probably violate copyright, so are then not safe for Wiki? Sorry for my Newness. --Rolen05 (talk) 19:28, 24 December 2007 (UTC)"[reply]
What do you think? Any issues applying {{non-free 2D art}}? Edit Centric (talk) 21:19, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope :) --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 22:36, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been over to the Getty Images website, and reading through their copyrights section. The image that we're working with here is a picture of Jeff Suppan, Rolan05 copied it from www.sportsillustrated.com, who obtained it from Getty under license. Applying a "fair-use rationale" for this image might be too problematic, could you give me some guidance on this one, or do you think it's just better to leave this one to deletion? Edit Centric (talk) 23:03, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. As observed by your bot, the CCET page was marked for speedy deletion. However, the page has been corrected now and has been written from a neutral point of view. Please see the page and remove the speedy deletion tag. Thanks.

MfD of Wikipedia:IRC channels/wikipedia-en-admins

[edit]

I noticed your MfD nomination for Wikipedia:IRC channels/wikipedia-en-admins. This is not a good idea while there is an arbitration case about edit warring at this page. Best to wait until after the arbitration case. Another thing, you shouldn't really be using your admin tools to add the MfD notice to a protected page. I'd advise you to revert and withdraw your MfD nomination. Carcharoth (talk) 23:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies. I see Majorly nominated it. Regardless, there is no need to insist on having the MfD notice on the page - why not the talk page?. I'd still advise reverting your edits. Carcharoth (talk) 23:39, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see no problem with it being on the content page, and that seems to be standard practice. Is there any reason not to have it there? --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 23:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's standard practice to put AFD/MFD deletion messages on protected pages, even if the pages are protected. Typically an editprotected request is made if the nominator is not an admin, but if the nominator is an admin there is no need to make a request. — Carl (CBM · talk) 23:43, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That does make sense, actually. I'd be happier if Majorly had actually made such an editprotected request, but Carl, you are right, it does seem to be standard practice. The case with articles is that pages should be unprotected to allow editing by all during the nomination (to improve it), but this is not really the case here. Though those who want to keep it might want to be able to edit it to show a suitable form for it to be kept in. They can't really do that while protection is in place, so in this case I think an MfD while protection is in place is not appropriate. Carcharoth (talk) 23:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is a reasonable concern. It's less convenient, but still possible, to use a sandbox page to show possible changes. But the nomination has been withdrawn, so it's not an important issue. — Carl (CBM · talk) 00:02, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've started a discussion at Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard#Coordination between fair use bots a while ago. That page seems particularly low-traffic, and went largely unnoticed by the people I wanted to target (BAG and Bot owners). As a rather active member of the Bot Approvals Group, I wonder if you could bring this issue up in a more appropriate place. Thanks, User:Krator (t c) 16:28, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Understandably I get extremely irritated when my valid contributions are attacked by bots - wouldn't you? Your edit summary suggests that there are two groups of editors here - "admins" and "users". That is in direct contradiction to the principles of wikipedia - admins are not superior, they merely have access to some extra tools in order to deal with certain issues. 1. user: Selbysworld - I dont see why my user has to be deleted - I am new and may make some mistakes but I beleive such a crude response is unnecessary and that I have value to add, for example I have just added an article on Rabbi Daniel Zion, a seminal Jewish figure in messianic belief.

2. Page: [12] Jon Selby - while I have tried to edit this page for consideration it needs to be recognised that Jon Selby was an important Music Icon of the 80"s in South Africa. He was the lead singer/songwriter of the band Petit Cheval which is featured as an article on wikipedia [13] which played a pivotal role in the South African music industry during the period of sanctions and isolation in the 80's.

I would ask that you reconsider and not take out these actions

many thanks Selbysworld —Preceding unsigned comment added by Selbysworld (talkcontribs) 14:10, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your wonderful bot just zapped a picture i've just uploaded. I've added the rationale correctly but it seems other users have had problems with it before. So I am going to just get rid of the tag. Happy New Year! Cls14 (talk) 14:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You scared me there for a second - no, that wasn't a bot, that was me, but it looks like you fixed the problem of needing a link to the article - happy new year to yourself as well! --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 15:30, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STBot1 still seems to be tagging images with a full rationale as "no rationale." See [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20]. I haven't blocked it this time as I don't currently have the time to investigate further. (These were reported to my talk page). Mr.Z-man 20:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Willy DeVille albums

[edit]

You put "Up for Deletion" notices on a bunch of Willy DeVille album cover images that I uploaded, but I'm still not clear what is wrong with these images or what I need to do to show that they are okay to put on Wiki. These are album cover images. There are thousands of them on wiki articles. What should I do to keep these images from being deleted? Is it really necessary to answer all ten criteria to keep this from happening? Griot (talk) 21:55, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You need to follow WP:NFCC#10c, specifically the requirement for a link to the article the image is used in. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 22:18, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Though fair use images should be deleted if not used, this is just a reason for fixing the link, and threatening deletion for it is the wrong way to ask for it. Better would be a bot that searched for it and filled in the missing information by itself. DGG (talk) 03:20, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi there. I saw this recent edit by your bot and think that it might not be necessary to have it do this. Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#ST47 Have a nice day, Igor Berger (talk) 06:15, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ST47, see my comment here. The same user who says that they are offended by the term "troll" has long styled themselves as "Igor the Troll" on their website, blog, and usenet history. While every editor has the right to privacy (although the website and blog can be found by following a link from their user page), I think this raises serious doubts about their motives in bringing the RfA. I have asked Igor Berger to clarify the position on his talk page. Gohdeilocks (talk) 10:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ST47, I understand how you acted on the article Talk:Knol that you reverted my petition.Wikipedia:ISNOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_democracy but the only reason I set it up was to preserve WP:NPOV and avert WP:COI that was being social engineered via Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view#Undue_weight on the article. Being that it was New Year and very few editors were around I felt a need to step up to the plate and defend WikiPedia. I am sure you have done the same, when you confronted me, maybe, without realizing what I was actually trying to do! So I really hope we have no bad blood between us. And if I made uncessary fuss about it, my apology to you. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 20:49, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to templates in Category:Country data templates

[edit]

Again, I ask you to please watch your edits to flag templates, such as this edit. By removing image names but not replacing them with something else, you are breaking these templates and every page that transcludes them. I know you think these templates lack a "sane syntax", but I have tried very hard to document them as clearly as possible. For example, the "Standard parameters" section on the template's documentation page clearly shows undefined! if a required parameter is missing, and the test calls in the "Example usage" section also show breakage. I have also written full implementation notes at Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template. What more can I do? For future edits like this, if you are not sure what replacement image to use, Image:Sin bandera.svg is the best placeholder. But please don't leave the template parameter blank. Thank you. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 18:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These templates should not require an image. I'll see if I can easily modify the bot to deal with this oversight. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 11:49, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please clarify what you mean by "not require an image"? Do you mean that they should function gracefully when no flag alias parameter is specified? Thanks. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 16:58, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever parameter the bot is removing shouldn't be mandatory, because images are not available for all uses. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 19:05, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the whole point of a flag template is to display a flag, so something needs to be a mandatory parameter. We have cautioned people against using non-free images in these templates, but not everybody heeds the message. I guess I'll just have to keep a manual eye on things.... — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 21:24, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please can you reword the "welcome" message on this bot's talk page? As it stands it is aggressive, unhelpful and appears to me to be assuming bad faith, with its comments about whining etc. The wording is excessively complicated, and does not realistically help editors fix problems with copyright tags. I would add that to be mesaged when in the middle of fixing tags on a newly uploaded image is not helpful either. We are not all capable of instantaneous edits. Thank you. Hi

[edit]

Hi there. I wasn't sure whether to leave this on STBotI's talk page or here, but as this is not a comment about the Bot's work per se, I thought I'd come here. Besides, it's not urgent.

I came across the Bot's talk page and wondered if it would be possible to tone down the message at the top of the page. New image tagging is a bit of a minefield for even fairly experienced Wikipedians and a lot of people (even admins, and myself definitely included) find it fairly obscure and difficult to get right. Your bot's tags are an opportunity to help well-intentioned people get it right with that tag and with future ones too. With that in mind, perhaps if there were fewer instructions at the top of the page, and if they came across with a kinder, more helpful tone more people might read (all of) them?

I can imagine you get a lot of irritating comments on that talk page (I did laugh at the 'rational/rationale' thing) as well as visitors who aren't, shall we say, quite so well intentioned. But don't you think it would be better if the page were geared to help the good guys, rather than combat the trolls, who almost certainly won't read the instructions anyway?

As, like I say, I find image tagging almost beyond my limited brain's abilities, I might be a good ally in working on some improved wording. I'd like to think I'm quite good on civility/AGF issues and between us I'm sure we could work up something outstanding in a sandbox. What do you say?

Cheers, --Dweller (talk) 10:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As is, it's straight from BCBot, where I stole it from. If you have any suggestions, sure. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 21:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Dweller. Please tone down your instructions, they make you sound like a power-tripping jobsworth — Suxamethonium 22:03, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll work on a draft at User:Dweller/STBotI. Pop along and fiddle with it whenever you like, but I'll drop you a line when I'm getting somewhere. I'll start with the text as is, so you'll be able to see from the diffs what I've deleted, in case I get rid of something important or twist the meaning of something in such a way that it becomes an error. Cheers. --Dweller (talk) 22:20, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for turning the redlink blue. I'm under way. Take a look and see if you like the kind of flaccid, colourless, humorless changes I'm making ;-) --Dweller (talk) 15:49, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Humour good... a nice friendly and understandable spiel - nae point in alienating a load of good faith editors. I draw the line at fluffyness though... Irony probably not the best bet though, only us Brits would get it ;) — Suxamethonium 23:49, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's moving along nicely, if slowly. I pop back to it every so often. Apparently, there's a helpful flow chart I can link to from it. Might add that tomorrow. --Dweller (talk) 18:06, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

I'm gregorynovella, it's about the image i uploaded about MyWebSearch in avast! Virus Chest, how do i fix the problem concerning the image? Gregorynovella (talk)

Hello.

[edit]

STBotI doesn't appear to actually attempt to check if copyright information is there before warning Wikipedians for uploading images, because I made sure to include it this time (see here). Please fix that. Also, requiring users to go to a third-party website where they have to register to mention problems with your bot seems rather unreasonable. Zenwhat (talk) 11:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't a third-party website, it's a bugtracker provided by wikimedia, like bugzilla. Regarding the image, there's still no license tag, as required by policy at WP:IUP point 1:
  1. Always tag your image with one of the image copyright tags. When in doubt, do not upload copyrighted images.

deletion

[edit]

I just had an article deleted... while, sure, it wasn't the best article (missing lots of info.), it was of a significant person in the history of a certain state (South Carolina, USA). Anyway, after reading and re-reading the reasons for its deletion, I've come to the conclusion that it was deleted for a reason other than that stated, especially since it meets the criteris for NOT being "speedily deleted." Anyway, since I didn't maintain a copy of what I wrote, is there a way to undelete it? Thanks. Evets70 —Preceding comment was added at 23:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

[edit]

I tried creating an article about the local Delaware Survivor show. I am in no way affiliated with the show, and I am just a fan who happens to be a amateur videographer who finds it amazing that Tyler Ford and his team have taken their small east coast show and now have national recognition with fans all over the country!

This is NOT promoting or advertising, as I do not have any affiliation with the show. They have a HUGE fan base on ezBoard community and I wanted to post a article about how big the Survivor Lounge is, and I saw their is an article about the Survivor Sucks message board, so there is no reason why this show should not have an article.

Please help!

Your bot

[edit]

I have a suggested function for your bot. Maybe when further information like an E-mail address is required the bot can notify the anon that posted it of the required info. Alexfusco5 22:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What? --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 22:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes an anon requesting an account, forgets an email address or a username the bot could leave a message on the anons talk page and tell them what information is required so the request can be filled Alexfusco5 22:32, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bot

[edit]

Since you have many many bots, I was wondering if you can help me make one? I would like to create 2 bots. One bot will remind everyone who forgets their edit summaries to put an edit summary. (I have a message that it should put). (similar to sinebot <--- isn't that yous?) Another bot will redirect articles of geography. For example: Concord Nh would be redirected to its original article (Concord, New Hampshire). Can you help me out creating these two bots? I really think this would be a good idea, you help would be appreciated. If possible, please reply on my talk page. Ohmpandya (Talk to Me...) 00:40, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me!!

[edit]

To whom it may concern, I'm just a bit confused. In your previous message, you said that I need to give a suitable explanation for the picture that I have uploaded. My question is, what is the proper way to write the explanation? For example, should I write this in the box?, "This picture is a logo of a school badge that is being used for a fair use to be used in related article of SMK Seri Perak or any appropriate articles." or do I need to upload a new file? Help me!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Syfuel (talkcontribs) 10:30, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just add it to the image page using the edit button. WP:NFURG explains what you need to put. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 11:34, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hello ST47, in your subpage called User:ST47/Stats, you list admins by number of deletions, blocks, etc, and bureaucrats by number of promotions, renames, and bot flags. With admins now being able to grant rollback, would it be possible to now list "admins by number of rollback promotions", or something titled along those lines? Thanks. Malfunctioning Bot

[edit]

I have no experience, so I'm not gonna mettle myself.

But your bot has first one minute after upload deleted Image:Poster-B2---03.jpg. And then after I reuploaded the pic (with extremely detailed licensing), he tagged it for Friday 25th for deletion nevertheless.

Could you please solve this? --PaxEquilibrium (talk) 17:20, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perl

[edit]

Hi, Versageek and I are running a current version of 'Shadowbot' (AntiSpamBot), but I seem to have a problem with the perl/perlwikipedia (at least I guess the problem is there). On some test-reverts it seems to 'convert' some characters (see e.g. diff), and I don't know (yet) what I am doing wrong/what is going wrong. Have you heard of this problem before, and do you know a solution? Thanks already! --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I should add, I downloaded the last version from svn, and hacked it a bit around, as I did get some errors (some pagenames don't go correctly into urls, &c.). --Dirk Beetstra T C 19:49, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hacked around it for now, and the above diff is deleted (still visible for admins ..). Hope to hear more! --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'd need to know what changes you made to be sure, but you might try using content() instead of decoded_content() on lines 310 and 316, or possibly commenting out line 214 - these are the only things that are supposed to screw around with the content. If that doesn't work, try rolling perlwikipedia back to revision 110 - that's the last revision by shadow, so I'm assuming that it worked for him. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 00:47, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Shadow used two perlwikipedia libraries in shadowbot, so it is difficult. I do now a consecutive 'get_text' and 'edit', which does do the trick (the bot is running nicely), I think that the data that is returned from the 'get' in the 'revert'-sub does get translated in some way, and I am not sure how to circumvent that (there is no decoded_content in that procedure, so that is not it).
The other problem seems to be that when the pagenames contain spaces, the urls become incorrect. I have added a '$page =~ s/\s/_/g' behind every '$page=shift'. Maybe I should get a google account and update the code regularly :-) . Thanks anyways. --Dirk Beetstra T C 12:16, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What wrong I did today in requesting him? You see, It was only a humble request to him. Now what I feel the day is very close that this particular page also would be destroyed by some egoist self employed gang who does not believe in supportive creations on wikipedia. As we would be scare in two terms – shortage of votes or otherwise. How long could I ask or search invisible angels like you, Aleta, Graeme, Eukesh and others. I once again appeal to you to do the needful and let ‘truth of transparent sense survive’ in wikipedia where populated and condensed bias & egos are ruling on counted roost. I would ask the Guardians of Wikipedia - Do Zetawoof or people alike bother a least to honor the previous instructing banners that support our article which has been advised to grow as the same only lack due to ‘orphaned or stubbed’. In past let we ask honorable judges to interfere. Regards to all of you . --Dralansun (talk) 06:59, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your bot has removed a link to a fair use media file. I can understand why it would do this, but the media file was only being linked to. In my opinion, it's not really necessary to remove images that aren't actually being depicted. —msikma (user, talk) 10:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here, links to video files are the same as included images. You're still using a non-free video outside the main namespace, and it still needs to follow policy. (Though, I really have no idea why the bot caught a link...) --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 13:05, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My userbox

[edit]

ST47, I saw you visited my page and changed a particular userbox I'd set up. Let me remind you that wikipedia is not censored (WP:NOT#CENSORED) and that the userbox in question was setup the way it way for that very reason. Yes, I saw your edit note, and contrary to what you wrote, Betacommandbot was not doing his job. It's a long story and I don't want to keep rehashing it. Bottom line, my userbox is there in protest. I haven't put it back up yet because I want to hear your side of it before I do anything (after all - I don't want get a block again (just got off one! )). Thanks ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by KoshVorlon (talkcontribs) 13:41, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protesting policy can be done without abusing those who enforce it - as I see it, BCBot is removing an image which was tagged non-free from a userpage. Unless part of that is incorrect, BCBot is correct. Regardless, BCBot's actions are not an attempt to censor, but to obey US copyright law. Due to the fair use portion of US copyright law, we must follow guidelines when we use these images. Since we are an encyclopedia, policy states that, in order to follow this law, we must limit usage of these images as much as possible, and we have chosen to limit them to the mainspace. Also, regarding the edit I made, many members of the community frown upon divisive or inflammatory userboxes, and I'd say this one was divisive. Please do not restore it, and if you need further information about the policy that BCBot in enforcing, see point 9 here. Thanks! --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs(st47) 19:14, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
