Image without license
[edit]Unspecified source/license for File:DavidMowatDHportrait.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:DavidMowatDHportrait.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 23:46, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
Non-free image use
[edit]Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to a page, specifically Conservative Party (UK) leadership election, 1975, may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:22, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Robin S. Taylor. Please check the copyright licensing of images before adding them to articles. Certain files such as File:1965 Jeremy Thorpe.jpg, File:Sir Hugh Fraser in 1963.jpg and File:William Whitelaw in 1963.jpg are non-free content which means that use of them on Wikipedia is required to comply with WP:NFCCP. Non-free image use is not automatic and it needs to be clearly shown by providing a non-free use rationale that the use in question does satisfy relevant Wikipedia policy. The way to check the image's licensing is to simply go to the files page and look for the copyright tag. Generally, files uploaded to Commons are OK to use pretty much any way you want as long as the usage complies with WP:IUP; the use of non-free files, however, is much trickier. Check the file's page or talk page to see if its non-free use has been previously discussed at WP:FFD or WP:NFCR. If it has, like in the case of the Thorpe file, then read the discussion and discuss your concerns with the closing administrator per WP:CLOSECHALLENGE if you have any. If the file has not been discussed, then you need to at the very least provide an appropriate separate specific non-free use rationale for the particular use. Please note that providing a rationale still does not mean non-free use is compliant and the file's use may be challenged by another editor.
- Just for reference, the use of photos of deceased individuals is generally considered acceptable per item 10 of WP:NFCI when it's used as the primary means of identification in stand-alone articles about said individuals and it is highly unlikely that a freely licensed equivalent cannot be found or created. The non-free use of such files in other articles, however, can be much harder to justify and is often not allowed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:41, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
Heraldry
[edit]@Robin S. Taylor: well done the May arms look good! Do you do other mock-ups of COAs? If so, could you create one for Lady Sarah Chatto, namely her patrilineal arms but borne on a lozenge : ↔

- Thanks Robin, looks like we might share a similar sense of humour too (let's call it English boutique, rather than northern!). Do you wish to create other heraldic images, which could be helpful to Wiki? Best, L'honorable (talk) 05:16, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:MikeHookem2016.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:MikeHookem2016.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo). Treated like dirt by many administrators since 2006. Hello, Robin S. Taylor. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, 1-90 Muswell court, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Orphaned non-free image File:LordSpeakerFowler2016.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:LordSpeakerFowler2016.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:19, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Second Frontbench Team of Vince Cable moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Second Frontbench Team of Vince Cable, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. — InsertCleverPhraseHere 11:18, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:BoothroydOUChancellor.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:BoothroydOUChancellor.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Photos of MPs
[edit]Hi Robin, thanks for all your work in uploading the new MPs portrait photos! You seem to have uploaded most (all?) of them as the full length portrait. Might I suggest that in many cases the cropped photos are better to use, as the full length photos make it difficult to see the MPs face, especially when viewing on a phone. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Anthony Greenwood 1963.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Anthony Greenwood 1963.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
– Train2104 (t • c) 15:57, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
And why not
[edit]Hi Robin. Thanks for uploading and adding File:Barry Norman 2012.jpg, but would it be possible to add the original and/or (more importantly) provide a slightly less cropped version, e.g. head and shoulders? I think it's fair to say that in the newspaper article the hand gestures explain the slightly goofy expression. I'm not expecting to get the hands in, but at least a slightly wider crop might look a bit more natural? Just an idea. Also, do you think we could caption that with "Norman in 2012"? The image itself seems to be undated, so it could just be The Daily Telegraph's' stock. Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:10, 21 August 2017 (UTC) p.s. are you 100% sure that's not a copyright infringement? Thanks.
- Hi Robin. I wonder if you saw my message here? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:30, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
