Hi Dr. Reagle! (2023-Spring)

[edit]

Hello Professor Reagle, I hope all is well. My name is Dov - like the bird, chocolate, or soap - and I'm a senior in your Online Communities Capstone class. I have to say, thus far I thoroughly enjoyed the layout of the class, you're teaching style, and the content at hand. I'm looking forward to some of the bigger projects where I have chance to synthesise and display my understandings of the course. A bit about myself; I'm a raging sports fan, I'm a fluent French speaker from my time living in Switzerland, and I'm obsessed with analysing reality television through the lens of a communication scholar. DovC123, hello! -Reagle (talk) 17:17, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm Marissa in Online Communities. I'm really looking forward to this class and hopefully interacting with some Wikipedians, which is something that I never thought I would do in a class. I uhhh enjoy online culture a little too much and oftentimes wonder how much more I could achieve in life if so much of my brain was actually useful instead of storing years of Youtuber drama, Twitter discourse, and niche internet memes, lol. Anyway, besides that embarrassing fact, I'm also a proud New Jersey native, hardcore electronic music fan, and lover of DIY/alternative/goth fashion. Excited for what this semester has in store! Hello Dr. Reagle! I’m Emily and I am a fourth year at Northeastern. I was born and raised in Paris, France and studying Communications and Screen studies, with a minor in Art History. I paint and tattoo in my free time, and love going to museums. I am hoping to pursue a master’s degree in Art History or Curation studies once I graduate, hopefully in the UK, France or the Netherlands. So far, I have truly found your classes fascinating and am looking forward to learning more about Internet culture, which I have never been super deeply involved in other than more mainstream social media usage. I must admit I am not the best with technology, which is definitely a flaw of mine in this time in history, but I’m excited to hopefully absorb some knowledge from you. Hello Dr.Reagle, here is Susie! I am a third year Communication Studies and Theater combined major student. I was born in Shanghai, China. My interest in Communication field is mostly about media content and policy communication methods. So,I am planning keep pursuing a postgraduate program about Medias, Advertisement and Communication methods in UK or HongKong. I have never got chance learning how to analyze what's users' motivations using some online platform and how can media designers help build an online community, so this course is super attractive and I learn lots of new knowledge every class. Recently, I have found that there are some misunderstandings about China in the Internet information dissemination and it is difficult to eliminate them in a short time. I look forward to contributing to the wikipedia community's positive perception of China and updating it on more recent reforms to help people gain a more diverse and objective understanding of China's recent changes. My dream is not to let the online community become an illiberal and misunderstood community. Although this dream seems to be a little too unachievable, I believe that in this class I can at least try to understand how to make my own small contribution to bigger online world. Hi Dr. Reagle I'm Isabel Reynes and I am participating in your online communities capstone! My favorite fun fact to share is that I have a rescue pitbull at home in Chicago who I miss dearly. When I'm not enjoying the pleasures of homework and work, I love to cook, read novels, and spend quality time with the lovely people I have in my life. My first co-op was at a recruiting firm where I helped candidates get entry-level positions and often have an impact on their future which made it really rewarding. For my second co-op I got out of my comfort zone and did PR and marketing for a tech company! In this class, I'm hoping to challenge myself to get outside of my comfort zone by exploring Wikipedia and further advance my writing skills. NUstudent1316 (talk) 23:45, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. Reagle! I'm Alise Boal (Alise signs a lease, my mnemonic of choice). I'm excited to be in your class! It's rare that I take a class where I'm consistently interested in the readings, so I am especially glad to be in Online Communities, were that has been the case so far. My usual fun fact of choice is that I have lived in a lot of different states! Massachusetts rings in at number six. Despite this, I consider myself to be from Kansas. I am a midwest girl at heart. I spent last semester on co-op in Dublin, so I'm excited to be back in Boston and in classes. Alise boal (talk) 02:49, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alise boal, hello! -Reagle (talk) 17:17, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Professor Reagle! I am Andrew Lin. I have been meaning to take this course in the past but never got the opportunity to. I am happy to be able to take this course in my last semester as an undergraduate. One of my long time hobbies is photography. I started in high school learning from my dad when he takes family photos of us. Eventually I started to develop an interest in film photography and that is my preferred medium at present. Nowadays I enjoy taking candid pictures of my family and loved ones. In the past I have dabbled in photo journalism and portraiture. These days I am trying to get into fine art photography. I am looking forward to the rest of the semester and hope it will be an enjoyable one. User:Andrew34jack (talk) 15:19, 23 January 2023 (CST)

Hello Professor Reagle! I'm Jon Eigen, a fourth Music Industry and Communications major. I'm very excited to be in this class, everything I've been exposed to so far has been super interesting. I consider myself to be a hobbyist; I enjoy producing and composing music, drawing, writing, and pretty much anything creative! I'm from New Jersey and am looking forward to the rest of my last semester at Northeastern.--JonNotJohn (talk) 20:17, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @JonNotJohn! Reagle (talk) 17:48, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Professor Reagle! I'm Paige and I'm a senior communication studies major with minors in global fashion studies and journalism practices. My hobbies include skiing, fashion, writing, fitness, and traveling. I'm excited to be taking your class this semester as I feel it's a great way to end my time at NEU. Studying social media is one thing but going deeper into a long-standing online community is another. I truly look forward to what this semester holds and can't wait to explore Wikipedia further! Hi Professor Reagle! My name is Zhifan Fu and I'm a fourth year communication studies combine media studies major with a minor in international affairs. I'm from Dalian, China, which is a costal city just like Boston. In my spare time, I love to snowboarding and watching movies. I'm very excited to enter the online community through this course and be able to systematically obtain related knowledge. I believe the knowledge from this course would be beneficial when I entering the workforceZhifanfu (talk) 17:47, 24 January 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.33.133.34 (talk) 17:41, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User pages

[edit]

Hello, Reagle,

I have no idea why you are editing other editors' User pages but you really have no business doing this unless they have been submitted for AFC review and you are an AFC reviewer. None of the pages you tagged were even close to being eligible for deletion as a CSD G13. I recommend you review WP:G13 so you understand the conditions that are required for a Draft or User page to be able to be deleted under the G13 criteria.

You are an experienced editor, I would think you would be familiar with all of the CSD criteria but now I think you should take some time reviewing this policy page so you don't mistag any other pages. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:35, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. These pages were created by a student using the WikED dashboard. I would never typically edit someone else's User pages but the extraneous pages were confusing them (and me). I asked a more experienced person and they said the speedy delete seemed apt via the `db-blankdraft` template. -Reagle (talk) 19:17, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
BTW: I'm going to blank the pages again, because I don't want the student mistakenly editing multiple/different pages. -Reagle (talk) 19:20, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your class has been mentioned...

@Sectionworker, thanks. I don't know if I have much sensibly to say at large. It's a huge topic, with many issues, but I shared some thoughts. BTW: thanks for your recent contributions to Death of Elijah McClain. A few weeks ago I actually shared some of your contributions and your apology about rash editing/reverts as an exemplary Wikipedian. Reagle (talk) 03:13, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
