Park Grill map

I was looking for the pushpin option.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:01, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Will do. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:02, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I am not sure what kind of code you are giving me. I do not write templates. If I want a map like the one Harris Theater (Chicago, Illinois)‎ has at Park Grill, what do I do?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I just realized that it would be easier to show you after I left you the message. Check it now. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:39, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Looks good. However, why do Cloud Gate, AT&T Plaza and Park Grill all have different coordinates?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:42, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Good question. I just copied the coordinates for Cloud Gate and rounded them to the nearest second. If you click on the coordinates, it will take you to a few options for maps. From there you can check to make sure they are accurate. I used to live in Chicago, but I have since moved, so I can't go over there with my GPS :) Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:44, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
All three are spot on. Thanks.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:53, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah I agree with Tony, the parameters eventually should all be made consistent. Even infobox building should be changed to pushpin)map rather than map type. Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:27, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Another simple template issue

You seem to know templates. I posted a simple template request at Wikipedia:Help_desk#VP_nominator_template_needed. Can you do this?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:00, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Done. Plastikspork (talk) 04:29, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes. Both fine. Thanks! Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Greenland

Can you replace the Greenlandic divisions infobox. It is only used in a handful of articles. See Qaasuitsup Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:58, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

I've nominated it for deletion, in the meantime. There are only three (3) transclusions. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 16:17, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, there are only 4 such divisions and I converted one, so that would make 3 remaining. There will likely be zero soon. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:29, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes aside from Federacy Kingdom of Denmark parameter above Greenland that's fine. Thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:48, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Okay. They are now all converted. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:54, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

I likes places with da lego houses.. Tomorrow I may create some montage of these municipalities to pretty up the infoboxes. Alg has taken some fantastic pictures of Greenland.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:22, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Events that never took place

A few favors, can you please put those pages up for speedy deletion, these events never took place for various reasons K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Dortmund, K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Baku.thxMarty Rockatansky (talk) 23:54, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I prodded them. If no one objects, they will almost certainly be deleted in about 7 days. If someone objects, we can take them to AFD, although I suppose there may be a CSD criteria for such things. I imagine some canceled events may still be notable, although these clearly are not. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:24, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I suggest redirecting, instead, to K-1 World Grand Prix, with a note there that the events were scheduled, but dd not take place. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 19:08, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

URL template

Why are you doing this? Urlw is available and working; any future changes will be backwards compatible. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 10:41, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't like it for a few reasons, and I didn't see any discussion, so I boldly reverted it. My primary objections are basically, (1) unnecessary obfuscation, (2) redundancy to other external link templates, and (3) potential to bypass the automatic edit filter (although I would have to experiment with this). Instead, I think we should work to consolidate these templates, before we start suggesting their wide spread use. It would be better to have people use already existing methods, rather than adding new ones, unless there is a strong reason to do so. If you want to add the "class", why not do that at the template level? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Have you forgotten that we're already discussing these issues at Template talk:Url#Proposed changes? Adding the class at infobox level won't work, because of the number still emitting website or suchlike. I have no idea what you mean by "the automatic edit filter". Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 19:29, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
No, I haven't forgotten the ongoing discussion, which is why I said the issues had not been resolved. I do not entirely object to using something like url, but I think there are some technical issues that should be addressed before it is widely deployed. For example, why do we need three input parameters? Until the actual input format is settled, it shouldn't be widely deployed, in my opinion. Otherwise, all the transclusions will need to be changed. I believe that a solution is there, but I would feel more comfortable if it were being debated by more than just two people. The edit filter is discussed here: Wikipedia:Edit filter. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:01, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Are you content that these issues are now addressed? If not, what further steps do you think need to be taken? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 14:26, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I think all the problems are basically resolved at this point. There are some technical problems with using url with some particularly pathological cases (see the testcases page), but these cases are extremely rare. I don't think we should modify/merge link. It is an incredibly simple template that does not obfuscate the fact that a URL is being added, and has an important use in template programming when one needs to (1) strip away whitespace and newlines, (2) optionally link or not link text, (3) pass an external link in a way that doesn't break another template (see the current uses). The branch of the code that uses str right is a bit expensive, but that is more of a technical issue that I think can be addressed later if it is a problem (much in the same way as the other technical issue). Do you see any outstanding problems? By the way, I am currently working on replacing Infobox province Vietnam, see below. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:40, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

en dash template

Hi, you just edited it.

The accompanying text includes no mention at all of where the template, with its spacing on either side, should not be used—the prime example is in year ranges such as "1990–92" (WP:MOSDASH). This needs to be displayed prominently; I have had to get rid of this template in many articles in such instances, which are a breach of the styleguide. Are you able to add this point? Hello I replaced the infobox in Đắk Lắk Province. Can you add an Ethnicities parameter to the infobox settlement so you can simply add rather than having to go down the population plank route. Burki Edits

Thank you for correcting Virginiacity; Sapere aude6; 198.76.89.7: These are all IDs of one and the same person and should be investigated for Socks Violations.

Kindly remove the following Personal Opinion under the History section as this has no reference and is purely the autors own personal opinion. Thanks!

Just like Elphinstone, Captain Leech was "hypothesizing" about the mysterious origins of the Barakis/Baraks/Urmurs/Burkis based on the narrative probably fed to him by the Barakis/Urmurs. After all, why would most of them trust this feringhee with their "origins," not being able to discern (at face value) what his true intentions might be? This was/is a region characterized by unending warfare and strife, inhabited by xenophobic/self segregating tribes. The "Yemen/Arab" narrative, it can be argued, was an attempt of a "foreign" people to successfully embed/survive, especially after Pir Roshan's (Bayazid Khan)enemies, and orthodox Pushtuns in the north, (Yusufzai, Khattak etc.) regarded him as a heretic due to his "progressive/heretical/revolutionary" ideas. It is rightfully said: "the victors write/disseminate the historical narrative." It can, therefore, be postulated that the Barakis (later "Burki" in the 20th century) were desperate to wipe out any public mention of Pir Roshan's ideas (although many of them privately espoused his views). Thus, their counter narrative to Khushal Khan Khattak's poetic attacks of "Pir Rokhan" (so much for Khattak showing gratitude towards the man -Pir Roshan—who invented Pushtu script which enabled Khattak's prolific writing in Pashto less than a century later!) by some shrewd Barakis/Urmurs (unidentified) to reinvent Bayazid Khan's lineage (and suggesting he was an embed, and not native to the tribe, even though the Baraki have been one of the most reluctant Pushtun tribes to marry outside, let alone a non-Pashtun) as being that of the Ansar! (as in an Ansari from Medina/Yathrib). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2011khan (talkcontribs) 09:10, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey there. I see that a few weeks back you made a small but helpful edit on a page that I created: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Arthur_Naparstek.

edit conflict

Hi Spork,

It looks like you are currently fixing up that reference issue. Thanks. I just encountered an editing conflict as I tried to add one more document to the reference list. I copied your code and came up with this...

[1]

But since you are editing it does not seem to want to allow me to add this item to the reference list.

Still figuring out this whole wikipedia thing.

Yes, edit conflicts can happen when two people are trying to work on the page at the same time. I am done working on it (for now), so that shouldn't happen again any time soon. The list of references at the bottom need to be integrated into the text, like I did with the nytimes ref. Let me know if you want more advice or technical help. Template:Infobox islands

Hi. I noticed you've been doing some islands work. Time for a redesign? Perhaps you could update the infobox and remove the nasty looking mint headers and make it look like infobox settlement? That also goes for formatting location in a proper fashion first not at the bottom back to front... Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:28, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. I was starting by sorting out the wonky parameters. I am going to add better coordinates and location map options in a bit. I have a boat load of other stuff to do today, so I don't know how much time I will have to spend on WP. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:26, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

infobox road updates and US territories

The plan is to use |state=XX where XX is the USPS abbreviations for the states and territories in the US, not a |country= value for them. LIkewise, with the |province= and Canada. Imzadi 1979  05:31, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. Guam looks fine now. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:01, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
US Highways and Interstates that are written for a single state shouldn't be updated to |country=USA. Imzadi 1979  20:42, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Will do. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Is your purge script done? We think we have the categories cleared out, and we'd like to know if other articles will pop in. Imzadi 1979  03:32, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the first pass finished about eight hours ago. Let me know if you want me to have it make another pass. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:54, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Another pass would be great. I added a few more deprecated parameters to the pile (all of which were phased out long ago but never removed from articles) and also eliminated one of the three tracking categories. TIA. – TMF 06:09, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Looks like we need one last pass for this stage - while fixing the second round of deprecated parameters, I found some more that need to be removed. – TMF 16:50, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Okay. I will start it again, it takes about 18 hours to process the approx. 12,000 transclusions (mostly due to friendly throttling so as not to overload the servers). Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:53, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. Thanks a lot for doing this. – TMF 17:01, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey again. =) We just implemented the last stage of the infobox revamp, and with that brings the last round of transclusion errors. Could you run the purge script one last time for us? TIA. – TMF 02:11, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Sure, no problem. I started it again, only 12566 articles to purge! It should be done in about 18 hours. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:48, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Ahhh, those bloody dancers

Did we end up deleting the US version templates? ... and Heather Mills not only danced in the US, she ICE SKATED too!!??? These all strike me as British productions. Are you going to nominate them or shall I? They probably hate me over at TfD, as I just nominated one a bit ago. Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:37, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I just closed the TFD for the US version, and found these while deleting the lot. I don't have that strong of a preference for/against deletion, but figured you might since you nominated the first batch. I might revive part of the main US template with just the season navigation part. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:40, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
I'll take a look in a bit and if they are as redundant as the DWTS US ones, I'll likely tack them in below the "pros" template you just nominated. I like the dancing stuff, don't get me wrong - they are the only reality shows I watch, but enough is likely enough. Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:02, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

SporkBot

Could you explain the purpose behind [2]? Thanks. – TMF 21:11, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

That would be a bug. The list of pages to purge was generated before the bot ran, and this is what happens when it tried to purge a deleted page. I will update the script to prevent it from creating pages. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:15, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah, ok. Just wanted to make sure the bot wasn't on an evil mission to mass create pages with a single digit. =) – TMF 21:20, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
No, it just so happens that "2" is the return code when the page does not exist. I had never seen this before since usually a page does not get deleted in between the time that the list is generated and the pages are purged, but with a list that takes 18 hours to process, this can definitely happen. Thanks again. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:00, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Infobox islands broken

Hi, some recent changes you made appear to have broken this template, by emitting 5 mu's at the top of articles using the template. I saw it on at least two articles, but I assume it may be on many more, or all. As a stopgap measure, I have removed the mu section from the template, which seems to have fixed the problem with no drastic side effect. I leave it to you or others to find a more permanent fix. Thanks, Crum375 (talk) 02:10, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I believe I fixed it. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:16, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Infobox islands

See proposal. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:37, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

The major problem that I see is the lack of multiple country fields in the settlement infobox. I would say that Geobox is better equipped for that feature. However, I will see if I can at least make the syntax more similar between the two. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:11, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Couldn't it simply become Country/ies? Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:20, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

There are multiple fields for each country claiming part of the island. Also, I am trying to work on Category:Infobox islands using deprecated parameters to at least make the syntax a bit more similar. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:23, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Spain, etc.

Also I have a request. Can you copy the infoboxes from Spanish wikipedia and add your lovely department infoboxes to Atlántida Department and the rest of the Honduran departments? Meanwhile I'll do the states of Sudan, Sudan is now  Done. I've also kitted out the states with new decent maps like Cambodia see Blue Nile (state).. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:24, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I will see if I can find some time. What is the best way to get a list of Spanish pages to process? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:11, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

You mean Spain? Category:Municipalities of Spain? Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Okay. I am going on a business trip in a couple days, and won't be back for a couple weeks, so I don't know how soon I will be able to get to it. There is quite a bit of hand tuning to goes into the transfer process due to the translation of names/words from Spanish to English. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:25, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Well generally it must be said that Spanish municipalities probably need the most TLC on wikipedia for places. Most of them have been neglected like Arrankudiaga. At least the French communes have already had a few rounds of automated edits... German municipalities are also a nightmare in terms of actual content but at least they have infoboxes sorted... Meanwhile I'll sort out Kenyan provinces.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:37, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Right. The Dutch places are surprisingly bad as well. I wrote a small script to merge the wonky maps and try to update the parameters, but it is going to need some tuning. The key for me is the more automated I can make, the more likely it is that I will do it, since I just don't have the patience to copy and translate stuff by hand anymore. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:46, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Me neither. If the task is too tremendous I get sidetracked. I can ask some AWBers though to insert infoboxes into articles though. At a later date then maybe a bot can be used to copy the coordinates into the infobox and display the pin. That's a start at least. South Africa had empty infoboxes added the other day. I'll ask Rich Farm, see if he can add maps in the South African infoboxes. I believe Rich Farm was the one who copied many of the infoboxes from Dutch wikipedia for the Netherlands too.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:06, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

UK place

Oh, can you tweak the size of the pin to 6px like infobox settlement? 8 is too fat. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:08, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Done. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:59, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Nice one. Is there a way you can nestle the WHS infobox inside the protected area template for Ngorongoro Conservation Area? Ideally the lovely photo should go at the top. If you can do the one I can start merging the others. ALmost, the whs box though needs to by the same width as the box and neatly aligned.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I was going to wait a bit to see if anyone complained first. But yes, that is the eventual plan. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:13, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Infobox Sesame Street character

Hi. Seems to me that this template is inappropriate and that we would be better off using Infobox character. I've not looked in detail, but it seems to support generic fields that could be used for the voiced-by param. Before you jump on this, visit User talk:Moonriddengirl/RfC#Concrete issues redux, which is a sort of workshop for a next RfC (or multiple RfCs) concerning the whole issue of colour, and wikiproject-authority. It's also a tad related to the Jack Lord edits I dropped you a note about the other day. This template was brought to my attention by MRG, but there are heaps more, as I expect you know. Cheers, Jack Merridew 22:01, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree. I have nominated it for deletion. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:02, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
I see a few more are just up, too. I noticed this and am not so keen on it. It must be hitting all sorts of non tv characters. And I see that the discussion on the talk page of is rather derailed by a huge paste of examples. Frankly, I think that whole mechanism and others like it should go. If we can get a broadly focused RfC on colour usage run and a consensus (really the establishment of an enforcement mechanism) re Wikipedia:Manual of Style (accessibility)#Styles and markup options to require solid rationales for exceptions to whatever default colours, we can probably start pruning heavily.
There must be a few specific colours that amount to site or skin defaults and we should be centralizing those into common.css (or shared.css, even) and keying ever more stuff off them. As I've been saying in the various discussion re actor filmographies and such, my core concern is all the embedded markup that's gluing things in place. All these spun-off templates are the same sort of mess. By the way, you're doing wonderful work cleaning up the template space. Awesome 'to do' list, too. Cheers, Jack Merridew 00:35, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
I agree that the color choice in the character box is not the best, but I figured at least it was centralized to one location. I am happy the change it to anything, just as long as things are more consistent. I agree that having it in CSS would be even better and disable the entire color feature. I agree that some sort of a unified discussion is definitely the way to break down the walled gardens. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:38, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
The lavender, or whatever name it goes by, is likely clashing with stuff; this is the core reason to stick to greys. I'm off for a bit. Cheers, Jack Merridew 00:46, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
 • Peanuts character
(edit conflict) They're everywhere. I expect the yellow is per Charlie Brown's shirt. He's not on The Simpsons, is he? ;) Cheers, Jack Merridew 00:46, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Now back to the old colour, and I nominated the Peanuts infobox for deletion. Plastikspork (talk) 02:08, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
I saw the tfd, commented. And MRG's going to launch the RfC sometime this week. I'll nose about the default colours of major elements such as infoboxes and navboxes and see what the current situation is and get my thoughts in order. Much of my unkeenness is due to the notion of tv-default being *the* default. I've a theatre background and there are many 'characters' that have nothing to do with tv; literature, too. I could float some CSS rules by you and then we pitch them at the commons.cs talk. Cheers, Jack Merridew 03:00, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. By the way, if one wanted to make sure the infobox didn't clash with the navigation bar, one could always use this color, which is generated using class="navbox-title". However, it would probably be better to have a separate css class. Thanks! Plastikspork (talk) 03:51, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
I didn't know about that one. fyi, I have a lot of CSS experience, including fussing with s:MediaWiki:Common.css. I also wrote most of m:www.wikipedia.org template/css although it was inlined at the time (about a year ago, in history). Cheers, Jack Merridew 04:07, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

BCGNIS template

The url for BC Geographical Names I was using in cite bcgnis went dead. I found the new url and updated the template. I then decided to start a project checking all the feature names used by BCGNIS. At first I had to purge every page. I'm thinking the problem is that since substitution is used the links might remain until all the pages are rebuilt on the server. (No sure about this but it seems plausible.) I have waited a day and most of the links have begun to use the new url. There are still some that are problematic.

I am considering using AWB to replace BCGNIS with cite bcgnis while maintaining a list of all the pages on which it was used so that I can continue my project. I'd like your input on this as I'm a bit reticent after the dust-up over cite cgndb. –droll [chat] 21:26, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Do you think this needs to be discussed in a broader forum. –droll [chat] 21:29, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
A broader discussion might be good, but I don't know how far it go. I posted notices of the TFD discussion in many places, and what you see is what we got. If you start another discussion, let me know. I won't have very much time to spend online over the next several months. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:27, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

help with revert

hi, this editor named "Kintetsubuffalo" keeps vandalising/reverting inaccurate information on Lisa Fonssagrives page by adding "American" categories when Fonssagrives has been widely reported as Swedish. Various editors on Fonssagrives' page has tried to revert "Kintetsubuffalo" edits by reverting the categories back to the proper Swedish categories, but he keeps changing Fonssagrives as "American" when she is not. Also, I have left a question on his talk page as to why he keeps reverting the inaccurate American categories on Fonssagrives page but he deletes my question and provides no source on where he is getting information as to how Lisa Fonssagrives is "American". Therefore, i believe that user is vandalising Fonssagrives page and provides no source of information. Could you revert Kintetsubuffalo edit on Fonssagrives page and prevent him from vandalising? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.251.135.149 (talk) 14:51, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

In Template:Los Angeles Lakers and other DWTS articles have colorful templates.

In the subject why Template:Skal vi danse? has to be nominated for deletion I was going to create new articles about the seasons. Other DWTS articles have templates and Los Angeles Lakers has a colorful template. I need to revert the editing back. I chose the colorful template because of the logo of Skal vi danse?. Tell another Wikipedia User to not delete the template if you want my editing on the template back.

Best Regards, Dungcamed2010 (talk) 06:01, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

No other DWTS templates use colours other than the default. I would say that your argument about the LA Lakers would indicate that the colouring should be removed from more templates. What you have created is entirely unreadable. If you don't feel as though the template should be deleted, comment at the TFD. Thank you. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:36, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

hey!

This edit created a problem with the coordinates of Al Ahmadi Governorate because you added a coordinates_type= parameter with underscores where it should've used colons and vice versa. It looks like you made several similar edits, which I am in the process of correcting.

I know you're a conscientious and well-intentioned editor. Please use more care in the future. Warm regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 20:33, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it happens. I am aware of the syntax but sometimes make mistakes. By the way, if the article is adm1st, but the coordinates point to the capital city (and is so indicated by coor_pinpoint), would you set it to type:adm1st or type:city? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:37, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
I make mistakes too. I wouldn't have made a fuss except it looked like the start of a pattern.
For the coord type, I would use adm1st, the logic being that we want the default map scale to reflect the subject of the article, not the pinpoint object. --Stepheng3 (talk) 23:41, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Slovenia

Use Ajdovščina as a guideline. Some of the data was overboard. It would be best following that example than having a seperate infobox....Besides some of the parameters could easily be added to infobox settlement average age, households etc you;d think would be compulsory anyway... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:40, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

I actually think it should all be removed (males, females, average age, income, ...). I don't like the use of multiple blank labels. I think this is the best way to isolate it for future removal or merger with the main box. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 17:45, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

What are you going to do about the hotel articles on my user page though. Convert to infobox hotel? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:23, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

I believe the final "end game" is to have them all as buildings, but converting them to the hotel box first is probably not necessarily a bad idea since it will make things a bit more uniform. Geobox

I'm considering placing this at AFD as in my view it is cuasing inconsistencies, particularly with river articles. I was wondering your thoughts on it. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:18, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

What inconsistencies? I actually think that while geobox is not ideal, having one in an article is a big step forward from some of the alternatives (e.g., hard-coded table, or some excessively regional template). Given the amount of things to do on the todo list, and even more to do off wikipedia, I wouldn't be able to offer any assistance. My personal opinion would be to first work to resolve the inconsistencies. If the best solution is deemed to be replacement with another infobox in certain situations, then obtain consensus to do so. However, if the only problem is with river articles, then throwing the whole thing out seems a bit drastic. The United States settlement articles I have seen with geoboxes seem fine to me. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:30, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Inconsistencies with using geobox for rivers or infobox river, using infobox settlement vs geobox (used in hundreds of Czech articles). Yes maybe we could do without using the pin maps for Netherlands if the localised maps exist. They do a pretty good job of showing where the places are I think. If you add a photograph as well then it will look too much with the load of them I think. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:56, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Help with tables

I am trying to create diagrams of size ranges of bats with some abuse of table syntax; see User:Ucucha/Diagram (template) and User:Ucucha/Diagram/Testcases (examples). It doesn't quite work yet (see the third example in particular). I previously asked Jack Merridew for help (at User talk:Jack Merridew#Table help), who introduced the empty row that is necessary to make the first two examples work, and suggested I ask you for help. Do you perhaps have better ideas? (Feel free to edit both pages.) Ucucha 10:48, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Interesting. The resulting diagram is not going to be of much use to a screen reader, but I suppose if it is just a visual representation of the data on the left, it's not entirely bad. I have been very busy lately, so I don't know if I will have time to look at it right now, but I will see if I have some time later. You could always try at WP:VPT. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:21, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, screenreaders wouldn't be able to do much with a diagram like this, but they would be able to do even less with an image (the other possibility for representing the data). It doesn't have haste, as it'll be some time before I write the article where I plan to include the Miniopterus diagram, and the diagram can of course always be inserted later. Ucucha 19:37, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the fix that also makes the Oryzomys one work. It re-introduced a problem Jack had noted, whereby the upper end of the range is off by one. Chilean micro penis

Hi I noticed that many of the Chilean communes suffer from micro penis. See Ancud. Some even have Nil Peni. There is an editor currently adding them at 175px which is perfect for this particular map, not the 80px that appears in a lot. Broken anchors and Template:Dateheader

I have noticed that Template:Dateheader creates automatic anchors on pages that look like #Year Month Day. This is consistent with Template:Current events header. The problem is that all of the pages that use this template, such as September 2006 in Oceania, have a nice little calendar you can click on to link to these particular sections, which comes from a template such as Template:September 2006 events. These little calendar templates all seem to have their anchor links written as #Day Month Year, so none of the dates link to the appropriate section when you click on them.

I'm not quite sure what the best approach to take to fix this. It would be easy to adjust the Dateheader template so it expects a different order, but this might break any other links that don't come from these little calendars (I don't know how many of these there are, probably very few, I'll try and answer that question tomorrow), and it would be nice to keep Dateheader in alignment with Template:Current events header. The other option is to fix all of those little calendars, which seems like the better solution to me. I think AWB could help, or if something more complex is needed I could perhaps use User:BrokenAnchorBot (this would require a BRFA, but it's closely related to what BrokenAnchorBot does already). There aren't that many, so just fixing them by hand might be the best solution.

Do you have any thoughts on the best way to proceed? I'm no template guru, and I've been looking closely at scores of them tonight...my brain is rather fried right now. Thanks. Winston365 (talk) 07:02, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

I changed the format for the anchor. One could always add a second anchor if necessary. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:15, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
There don't seem to be any other pages that link to any of these anchors, so the anchor template isn't necessary. Thanks for fixing this for me. Winston365 (talk) 22:51, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

His forkster. I've psent most of the morning creating and uploading 78 new municipal locator maps of Puerto Rico. I'm exhausted now! I was wondering if you would kindly add them to the infoboxes and clean them. I've noticed the paramters are a mess for Puerto Rican municipalities, back to front, backwards, inconsistent parameter dividers etc, besides having the old horrid blank locators like File:Map of Puerto Rico highlighting Moca.svg. Can you clean them and add the new maps, I think they'll look best at 300px given the relative small size of the island to the overall map so you may need to make the photographs 300px to aline. You'll find all of the map are in plain english names without Spanish lettering. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:39, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Côte d'Ivoire

AAArggggh I've encountered a big problem with Category:Populated places in Côte d'Ivoire. They were all sub stubbed even without proper department/region details and see Category:Côte d'Ivoire subdivision templates. The templates are far from complete most are empty like Template:Communes of the Marahoué Region as I found it too difficult to do it manually. So I have a number of requests for sorting this out in the next few weeks whenever you have a mo. First of all a bot needs to copy the coordinates from the top and insert them into the infoboxes to feature the maps. Second or first, whatever you find easiest, I need you to draw me up using "what links here" maybe for each department from French wikipedia or using some sort of reader to organize this list of communes by the region and department given in the article to give me an organized list of communes by department. Once that is done I can add them to the nav boxes like Template:Communes of the Agnéby Region and get an AWBer to split the category by region/department and sort them. Once that is done I'll see a bot to display the relative region/department in the infobox. You follow? If possible we can split the workload between you, me and Ser Amantio if he could help out with applying the navboxes/categories at a later date. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:54, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to parse what needs to be done. You are basically asking for a regional breakdown of all the populated places in Côte d'Ivoire, organized by their region, subregion, etc.? It looks like the information for many is in the infoboxes, so you would just need a script/bot to parse these and generate a list? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:23, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I need those communes broken down into a list by department of Cote d'Ivoire, organized by region. In every article on French wiki they either have the name of department and region in the infobox or in the beginning of the text. I just need you to be able to read of the text and create a parser list. Then I can begin organizing the nav boxes and at a later date can be sorted by automation. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:50, 21 July 2010 (UTC) You'll find that most of the article on fr: don't have infoboxes but are all consistently formatted like http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blapleu. I think you could probably read the department and region off of that by article. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:54, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Real World/Road Rules Challenge - VANDALISM

Hello Plastikspork. Some IP vandalism has recently occurred on the Real World/Road Rules Challenge page. Certain headers/sections keep getting removed, then restored, then removed again, and anonymous users keep inserting random & nonsense subtitles (in the Seasons table) for the upcoming 20th season of The Challenge (i.e. "Battle of the Sexes III", "The Gauntlet IV", "The Battlefield" and "Cut Throat"). We don't know for sure yet what the format of the next challenge will be, so I thought that it's better to just keep it (Season 20) as "TBD", and surrounded by hidden text commands, though it's likely that some idiot will mess that up. In order to curb the vandalism and nonsense edits, I think it would be good idea to semi-protect this page for the next three months. DPH1110 (talk)

Done. I just haven't had the time to be able to watch these pages as much as I used to. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:17, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Deleted templates following template:source list

Following Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2010_June_22#Template:Source_list, I see you deleted the sub-templates and replaced the links the articles. However, all those were edits reverted thusly per this rationale. Not being fixed, they remain as such today, I having changed this one but I thought I'd ask you if you've resolved the issue. I asked xem as well but you might know what the issue is. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:01, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

I have no clue why redlinks are better than sources. It looks like it's cite doi which is the crux of the objection. I am more than happy to replace them all with the complete citations instead if that is more desirable. I would need a list of all the articles where my replacements were reverted, which I could generate, but would take some time. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:06, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Malaysian roads and expressways infobox template

Hi Plastik,

Wikipedia:Malaysian roads and expressways infobox template (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I don't think there's anything wrong with Wikipedia:Malaysian roads and expressways infobox template as such; in some contexts these templates can be useful, e.g. on route diagrams. I'm not saying the implementation as it currently stands is perhaps the best it could be, but I've no objection to there being a bit of colour in an infobox. But in general for accessibility reasons of course, colour/graphics should not be the only way of putting in informaton – this template seems to be OK there though.

But definitely it is named wrongly: it really needs to be in the template namespace, not Wikipiedia namespace, and probably split into two (the doc for the infobox template itself, and that for the list of templates). As discussed for E-toll, a template listing templates is in any case probably redundant, that's what categories are for. In my view there is a weaker standard for finding templates than for articles generally, because I think we can assume a better familiarity about Wikipedia namespaces etc. by editors than general readers. (That being said, it is often quite a sod to try to guess the template.)

However, if it's just used in the Infobox template, yes, the "subtemplates" which are not subtemplates should probably be moved, such as McDonalds. I expect with that particular case the intent was to add the golden arches logo; it may be that this can't me done for copyright reasons. (Depends on fair use etc I suppose; McDonald's don't usually seem to mind having their logo splashed everywhere, but Wikipedians probably do.)

I think the consensus on the talk about E-toll was that it was unnecessary because we shouldn't have graphics in running text, and that E-toll contraverted usability guidelines.

Your argument about it being easier just to type the link out, and you are not the only one to make this, I have some misgivings with it as a general argument. I have made a few template such as , for example, which I imagine some people would think excessively long-winded (to write for example, instead of just a little image and Austrian Empire). Others have argued that indirecting templates like this serve no useful purpose above redirects (which is not quite true if they include images.) However, the reason for its existence is that in going through the infoboxes of all the battles in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 I saw that there was a great deal of inconsistency, and so by indirecting to a template they could be assured of consistency; it also means that if, by consensus, we were to change the display "Austrian Empire" to "Habsburg Empire" for example, it need only be changed in one place: a redirect does not accomplish that because it doesn't change the actual displayed text in the article. However, I do know that other editors feel that this level of indirection obscures things rather, and that templates should not be substitutes for redirects. (At one time there were eighteen redirects with minor variants to Alfred I, Prince of Windisch-Grätz, and other similar inconsistencies, so I maintain I did right by bundling them all together in one template; even if they are later SUBSTed, it's a stepping-stone to assuring consistency).

A long reply to your short note! Thanks for all your hard work. Si Trew (talk) 06:17, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I've spruced up that documentation and moved it from the Wikipedia namespace to be documentation for Category:Malaysia_expressway_and_road_infobox_templates. It's probably too long as category documentation but I don't know of a better place to put it. I moved the infobox documentation out into the templates for the infoboxes themselves. (one of those is at TfD anyway).
A lot of these do seem rather useless, yes. I suppose it comes down to whether there's any expectation they will change to be more useful. I'm not sure that's really covered by WP:CRYSTAL, since we're not discussing articles here but templates. 11:04, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I just thought it was interesting how many templates were in the category, and how many seemed somewhat pointless. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:19, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Template:Location map~

was edited on 20 July 2010. The edit added some functionality that I can't find any documentation for and introduced the use of the templates Latitude and Longitude after those templates were marked as being being considered for deletion. The editor has no edits before 20 July 2010, day the edit was made. All the contributions of this user are to template space and all concern Location map and its various incarnations. I cannot help but suspect sock puppetry. I realize this is a strong accusation but I think it is the only concussion reasonable. The two templates in question are now transcluded by more pages than Location map~ transcludes. I'll try to figure that out before I turn in for the night.

I'm starting this process here because I know that you have considerable experience with templates and because you are an admin. If I should introduce this discussion in a different forum please leave a note here or on my talk page.  –droll [chat] 05:42, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Interesting. I wish I had more time to look into this. If the "latitude" and "longitude" templates are redundant to other templates, you could always replace the latest additions and see what happens, or revert the edits entirely. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:18, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Template:Infobox settlement/ukr

Hi Plastik,

Could you drop in at the WP:TFD#Template:Infobox_settlement/ukr and add your view? Since an edit you made on 18 July may have affected one other user's comment, even though it predates it by a week or so, I have a feeling he hadn't seen your change. I hope this is not regarded as canvassing, just letting you know it's there (I've reffed the edit there but not mentioned you as the maker of the edit). Si Trew (talk) 15:18, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

I had been delaying making comment since I am somewhat indifferent to the template, so long as it uses the main template as a backend. That particular edit was made in the course of discussion with the author to demonstrate what I meant by using infobox settlement as a backend. Creating such subtemplates is not necessarily a bad thing, since it could assist with uniformity and standardization while reducing duplication. I'm still not convinced it's necessary. I suppose I could comment at the TFD in question since I can't really close it now that I have voiced an opinion or lack there of. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:24, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Transferring infobox data

Hi, if you look at this thread on my talk page, you'll see Dr. Blofeld is asking that I help out with transferring infobox data from Spanish articles, and suggesting that I ask you regarding what's already been done (and presumably what's still to be done). So - can you fill me in? Thanks, --Kotniski (talk) 18:36, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi there, I just noticed that this template has been deleted without even notifying me as creator that it was up for discussion. This was not an exact duplication of Template:WPOCopyright despite their visual similarity. This would have been evident if anyone had bothered top check all the links. Note also that it was not unused. It was transcluded here. They contained different links for Online research in the Guides section. Template:WPC copyright guide linked to a different Guide which was written for the needs of Wikipedia:WikiProject Composers. What's done is done, and I've got round the problem by linking the two different Guides in Template:WPOCopyright, although cumbersome. But I would greatly appreciate it if you would please not delete or propose for deletion Template:WPC online research. This one likewise is especially adapted for WikiProject Composers despite its visual simlarity to Template:WPO online research. Thanks, Voceditenore (talk) 14:43, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

I was just the admin who read the discussion and closed it as delete since there were no objections. However, I did not realize that you had not been notified, which is not supposed to happen, although it does when the nominator does not follow all the steps. Let me know if you want me to provide you with a copy of the deleted template, or if I can do anything to help. I will be sure to double check to make sure the author was notified in the future, and I will watch out for "WPC online research", although I am not the only admin who closes discussions at TFD. Thanks for letting me know! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:47, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
It's OK for now, although I may reconstruct the Template:WPC copyright guide once I get back from my summer travels. I've also got Template:WPC online research on my watchlist now, so I'll see any TfD banners. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 06:14, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

What's the plan for Infobox Skyscraper? Would it be best to tackle the hotels first maybe? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:42, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

I was dragging my feet a bit due to the complexity of the merge. Are we changing skyscraper hotels -> infobox hotel or infobox building? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:34, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeha its a daunting task I agree. Mmm, First of all perhaps you could copy the desired grey headers from infobox skyscraper into the building infobox. Would it be possible to have a different colour design for hotels. I mean I support merging the infobox hotel but I am particularly fond of the gold on maroon which looks very hotelish if you know what I mean. Also doesn't infobox building not have a standard pushpin map thing doesn't it read map-type or something. That would all need to be changed if this is the case so every infobox building as pushpin_map= rather than map_type. It will require some thought and discussion I think and then some consisderable edits to make the transition as you are undoubtedly acutely aware of, but the infobox building can at least be updated with the grey parameters from infobox skyscraper in the meantime. I believe infobox religous place has a different colour shceme for each building type. Perhapos we could introduce a similar system to prevent it from becoming bland for each building type, like yellow for lighthouses. Whatever you type into the infobox for building type it will display the colour code. What do you think? Template:Infobox lighthouse should probably also be merged. It doeshowever have a lot of parameters which would need to be added to infobox building but simple enough. In terms of long term maintenance I think it would be better to redirect both hotel and lighthouse infoboxes into infobox building but code it so the color system for hotels remains. What do you think? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:48, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't think you will find much consensus for merging infobox lighthouse, but I could be wrong. I don't plan to touch hotel at the moment, but I agree it would seem sensible to merge that one in due course. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:58, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay, will do. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:58, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Well I'm not too bothered either way, I just thought of it when discussing the color coding thing. I quite liked the yellow infoboxes I saw on Italian wiki. Another thing see Trelew. A lot of the Argentine town articles have these infoboxes. I'm not sure how they work, I gather they work in the same way as geo boxes in that each article will have to be attended to individually? Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Interesting, I had not seen before. This would be very easy to replace in a nearly completely automated way. I would just need to compile a list of all the components. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:14, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Never understood those. i believe King of the Northeast replaced most of the Buenos Aires ones with standard but he didn't get around to most of the other provinces, especially western and rural Argentina. Wonder if it would be possible to read how many articles that placebox is being used in and how quickly it could be replaced.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:17, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Just check the transclusion count of these. Or, better yet, Category:Placebox templates. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:20, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Any reason why you've stopped using flag| ? There are a few who disapprove of them like Rettatast and pretend there are guidelines WP:FLAG (when in reality they are used in thousands of articles all over wikipedia, in sport, geogrpahy whatever) but I actually think the infoboxes look barer without them, they seem to look more wholesome and complete with flags than without I think. The argument against them is that they are decoration I guess. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:45, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

No reason. I typically just go with whatever is currently being used on the articles in question. I will add the Argentina flag, since the placebox was using it. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:05, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

BCGNIS

I removed the substitution from BCGNIS (that you added). It seemed to me that there was no way to track which articles transcluded the template since, when a page was rebuilt, BCGNIS was no longer transcluded and the the page was dropped from the category. I also did a serious job on the documentation.

I feel strongly that substituting PAGENAME is a bad idea. At one time I went through hundreds of articles that used this option and found more than a few problems. I will patrol what transcludes the template in the article space and do the substitution using AWB.  –droll [chat] 07:11, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Bot?

Auto-ed is great, and I've never seen it make a change that wasn't an improvement. Why doesn't it run as a site-wide bot, cleaning up every article, say, weekly? If that is too broad, it could just run through the Wikicheck errors that indicate Auto-Ed. It seems like an obvious solution to a lot of little problems, I'm not sure why it hasn't happened already. Thanks. Ocaasi (talk) 22:17, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

I am glad to hear you have so much confidence in AutoEd. We did try to make it as robust as possible, and try to fix bugs when possible. However, the same could be said for the general fixes in WP:AWB, and running that in bot mode (without doing anything else) has been generally denied. If you want to see if there is more support for this sort of thing, try posting a note at WP:BOTREQ or one of the WP:VP. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:11, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Unseen data for record tables

Hi, in recent times, I've noticed re-additions of seemingly useless and counter-productive data in record tables. I'm not sure if all of them can be attributed to you, but I found a recent example in this edit. Obviously, the ref filling helps a lot, but the data below in the record table seems to me to be completely useless as the record table works without it, is easier to understand and without the added data, loads quicker due to the article being smaller in terms of kbs.

Could you perhaps explain to me why these changes are being made, so I can understand a little better? Thanks. Paralympiakos (talk) 16:44, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

I was using WP:REFLINKS, which coverts table parameters to the newer CSS format. I agree it doesn't appear to be necessary, and I wish I knew how to turn that feature off in REFLINKS, since the automatic reference filling is quite useful. I don't know if there are other bots or automated editing scripts that are doing this as well. I actually do the same thing that you did in the subsequent edits, removing the excessive "left" alignments when the default is left. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Ah! I suspected that might be a reason for it. It's just a little amusingly frustrating that I've removed the data, only for reflinks to readd it. I'm a little confused why a reference program would fix tabling. Oh well. Cheers for letting me know! Paralympiakos (talk) 08:20, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

What's bugging me today

Do you know of any project or other organized effort to improve wiki markup on wikipedia. I seems to me that lack of consistency in template parameter names, even within the same template, is bothering. Why is tag notation used when template notation might be more understandable to new editors. Why is ifempty allowed to stand when if empty is more comprehensible. I keep running across stuff like this. Any thought's. Do you think it would be taken seriously if I started a project named Wikipedia:WikiProject Markup improvement (i.e. would you be interested in such a project if you had the time).  –droll [chat] 02:50, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. You should inform Rich Farmbrough, Jack Merridew, Thumperward, Pigsonthewing, ... Plastikspork, I tried to add links to the http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Pewitt_Consolidated_Independent_School_District page that you did so much work on, but I messed it all up. Can you put it back to the edit before mine. Then I promise I will leave it alone. I have edited before, but something went way wrong this time. UK place

HI. An editor has created maps for each welsh county see the discussion on the talk page. Can you update this infobox so whatever village/town in wales display the county locator rather than the welsh one? E.g Template:Location map Wales Gwynedd, Caernarfon etc. You may wish to move all the welsh ones to Location map United Kingdom ... if this is easier for the template. Dr. Blofeld 21:09, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

I recall trying to parse the map section of that infobox awhile back and it gave me a serious headache. I can take a look again, but I'm not sure if I have time to unravel the nested switch statements. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:05, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
FYI, I believe it goes in Template:Infobox UK place/local, trying to read the code takes some serious effort and concentration. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:08, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Now if they used infobox settlement.... Dr. Blofeld 11:12, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

True. The issue isn't so much with the template, but with complicated automatic map selection. This is nice in that the user doesn't have to choose the location map, but the current implementation is a bit hard to parse. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:48, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Mapping WikiProject pages by coords?

Hello, I have a question and am not even sure where best to ask. I thought I'd just ask you since you seem actively interested in the basic topics (coord templates, etc). At least perhaps you could point me to a better place or person to ask. It occurred to me that it would be very useful for WikiProjects such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Rivers to be able to automatically map articles (those with coordinates anyway) by various things like assessment class, "importance", and other parameters. The River template, for example, can contain things like mapneeded=yes, needs-infobox=no, etc. Do you know if it is possible to make maps showing pages by parameter/WikiProject like this? It would be a useful tool for other projects too. If nothing else it would be interesting to see the results--just how US-centric is WIkipedia, etc. I was going to ask at the Help Desk, but figured it might be more productive to ask someone specific who might know or know who to ask, and I thought of you. Thanks! Pfly (talk) 22:26, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Good question. This sounds like something that would require either a bot, which would be filed at WP:BOTREQ, or more likely searching a database dump, in which case I would ask Svick if he has any ideas. I suppose the first step would be to generate the list of coordinates in each category, and the second step would be to map them. These are two fairly separate tasks. In general, you could always query WP:VPT and see if there are any existing tools. Mapping could be accomplished using , if one had the list of coordinates. I'm not sure if it would crash if you tried to feed it say 1000 pins. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:45, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for the leads! I figured it would take multiple steps, probably a bot and/or coding, and might be hard for technical reasons. It's beyond my ability, I'm sure, but I'd love to see what might result. I'll keep looking into it. Thanks for the leads. Pfly (talk) 18:37, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Any idea why the coordinates are not working for Museum of Apollonia. If you click the external link you'll see the coordinates yet they don't work... Dr. Blofeld 14:50, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Plastik one. Not quite can you convert 40 43 13.2 N 19 28 18.2 E into decimal that should be more precise. Dr. Blofeld 15:42, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I just copied the coordinates from the Apollonia article. Google maps indicated there is a museum in that location. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:48, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

DId you look on google maps and find that your coordinates were located ina field slightly south of the actual museum. I gave you the precise coordinates, don't worry I'll tweak it. Dr. Blofeld

You gave me no coordinates, so I copied the coordinates from the Apollonia article. I'm glad you were able to figure it out. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

No probs it was just about 100 metres south of the building that's all. The coordinates on the website were not precise enough... Dr. Blofeld 11:52, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Ukraine templates

Hi

I know you have already done quite a bit of work on this matter and that a simple "Can you just fix XXX" is not normally that simple lol.

WE have this though - the simple template used with just pushpin coords is giving the result "Location of XXX in the Ukraine" when it should be "Location of XXX in Ukraine".

I have been bold and changed the pushpin_map_caption in the template - can you just give it a check though to ensure I was correct :¬)

Chaosdruid (talk) 15:49, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Your change to Infobox settlement/ukr looks sensible. If the caption is not specified, it should be fine, since I believe the default is to use the name of the location map. The only way to make sure you got them all would be to run through all the transclusions of Location map Ukraine, which would probably be best to do using a bot (see WP:BOTREQ). To find even more, one could search one of the database dumps for all instances of "the Ukraine". It sounds quite tedious. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 17:58, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that - I leave it to AWB when I do cat sweeps - It is set to search out any Regex "the Ukraine" and change to "Ukraine" - it seems to get it done, if a little more slowly than a specific bot
Hope all goes well with the move Chaosdruid (talk) 19:08, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. There are fewer than 250 transclusions of the location map, but that would only be one possible instance of such usage. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:09, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Flash Gordon (serial)

Hi. If I run Auto Ed across Flash Gordon (serial),oldid it breaks the formatting. In the Synopsis section, there are secondary lines indented with: #: and they get a spaced added, which makes the ':' into part of the prose. I've seen other sorts of formatting that it's not handling properly, too, such as the same with '*'. The mix of these can actually get quite complex. Any chance this is an easy enough fix, at least the common forms? Cheers, Jack Merridew 21:16, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I should be able to fix it. Can you add a simple example of something that is being broken to User:Plastikspork/Test AutoEd, and I can work on it. By the way, if there are any other transformations you don't like, or want to add, let me know. I was planning to reduce the aggressiveness of the white space removal inside of infoboxes, which de-aligns the aligned equals signs. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:55, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I went looking for stuff, and had trouble finding more. I think this has been improved since prior experiences with stuff not working. I did add an example of stuff it does not add whitespace to, but could; ordinary indenting. I'll occasional use this on talkie pages (I know;), and the mishmash of colons, asterisks and hashes people mix-up there often had trouble. I also have a hacked-up version of some of this in User:Jack Merridew/monobook.js from about a year ago, and I should probably revisit that. I also added an over-long example about '%' and '.' encoding that could be improved. I've occasionally seen some change that it made that showed red in the diff but that really seemed the same; I've been thinking they were Unicode encodings of plain ASCII that were being simplified; this is stuff that worked either way and they were involving the extension of images, i.e red ".JPG".
I'll think on new ideas and let you know. The backing-off on infoboxs would often be useful, as I typically will keep a before copy in a text editor and paste that back after manually applying tweaks. Consider doing the same with citation templates, too, as I've given up on trying to indent them for this reason. It would still be good to be adding spaces l/r of the '=' and to the right of '|' at the beginning of the line. Reflinks does handle the encoding fixes w/'%' && '.', and is smart about multiple pipes in infoboxes and will move them from the end of a line to the beginning of the next line. Ya, I know, this is all akin to tabs vs spaces and true-braces styles. Cheers, Jack Merridew 01:09, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
I've got an example of the "jpg" issue I mentioned; see this edit to Tina Fey. Just below line '75' it shows a change from:
 •
to:
 •
I copied the above two lines from the editbox of the two old versions. There's something invisible that's different and the tool saw it. I assume it's right, but am wondering what the issue is and where it's coming from. Cheers, Jack Merridew 03:13, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
It could be something in Wikipedia:AutoEd/fullwidth.js, but I didn't think that was enabled anymore. It doesn't appear to break anything as far as I can tell. Hopefully I will have more time to look at this soon. I'm still "in transit" (looking for housing for a couple days before going back home to finish packing). I had no idea changing houses would require so much time. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:41, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

a template arg parsing issue...

Hi. I'd be interested in comments concerning how a template arg might be parsed into two chunks; typically some data and then a ref are being passed as a piece and it's resulting in poor rendering due to a unit being glued onto the end.

Cheers, Jack Merridew 03:22, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Discussion about the template IUCN

I'm involved in a discussion about citation formatting at User talk:Innotata. It might eventually lead to a request for a template to be deleted. I authored the template Cite database to deal with the issues discussed. I won't repeat the arguments here. I wrote the template to provoke this discussion but I have not been able to convince the first user who questioned its use. I hope you have the time to read the discussion and share you opinion. I've written a number of citation templates and have become dissatisfied with the output generated by cite web in certain cases.  –droll [chat] 19:19, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

My time on WP has been severely limited recently due to a off-wiki commitments. Basically, I am anticipating having no more than a few hours a week of free time in the near future, and probably even less in the immediate future. I am starting a new job in a new city and I have to find a new house, sell my old house, pack, move, unpack, ... It also seems quite likely that my new job will be far less flexible in terms of hours and work load, although there are substantial benefits for the increased time commitment. I still plan to pop in when I can to help out, but it won't be the 3 or 4 hours a day that it used to be. So, in summary, thanks for thinking of me, but I'm not sure I have the time to comment in any great detail. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:35, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

You can see what I mean about how your edits are simply enabling this banned user. When I reverted the edits today, I looked at the ones marked "pov" and they, as usual, have no real POV issues. Here are two [3] [4]. The peacock language is certainly not serious enough to justify editing while banned.
I also started an ANI thread about the banned user.

I personally don't mind "enabling" helpful editing, but I also firmly believe in not encouraging violation of community restrictions on editing. I agree that in this case the editor was clearly testing his/her limits. I would have personally had another editor look at it and decide whether or not to revert. I believe the accusations of 'wheel warring' are over dramatic to say the least, since there is obviously no warring going on here between admins. Thanks for the well wishes, and I hope that I will have more time to edit in a couple months. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:41, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

There is some information about this at Help:Substitution. Basically, safesubst is generally better in that it should only execute the substitution if the template is being substituted. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:11, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Infobox actor

Hi,

Aside from a few minor parameter naming differences, and one other issue, Infobox actor is a subset of Infobox person, with no extra parameters of its own and is thus redundant. Would you like to make the latter call the former; redirect and add the different spellings to Infobox person; or shall I raise the matter at TfD?

The one oddity is the way the actor iBox handles URLs. I presume there's a way round this? Perhaps a bot-job to clean up the various parameter names in use, and facilitate use of Url would be best? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 20:38, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

I could see having the actor box call the person box, but I don't think a TFD would go well. The main reason being that they seem to be very resistant to "creep", trying to keep the number of fields in the box to a minimum. However, having the actor box call the person box wouldn't necessarily add any new fields (or subtract any old ones). I have a very limited amount of time these days due to a pending move to a new job in a few weeks, which involves fixing/selling my house, finding a new house, and starting a new job with far less flexibility. I still plan to edit a bit in my spare time, but I have no idea how much time I will have. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:04, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm. the fact that there's a "they" is, as usual troubling; as is the existence of a template solely, in effect, to prevent another template from being utilised fully. But you're probably right. Even so, I'm minded to TfD it; I'll try its talk page first. Congratulations on your new job; it must be both an exciting and a stressful time for you. What is it and where will you be moving to (feel free to email a reply if you don't want to say so publicly)? If your Wikipedia input is - understandably - reduced, you'll be missed. Good idea to start on the talk page and/or WT:ACTOR. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be receptive to switching the backend, which would make maintaining the various class statements easier. They would also most likely be receptive to some sort of tweaks to make the field names match up (e.g., Infobox dancer). I recall they removed the awards section at one point, along with "children" and "parents". As far as the new job goes, I will have to think about how much I want to disclose and send you an email. EC at WP:TFD

Thanks for removing that edit conflict at WP:TFD. I,m not sure why I didn't notice myself, I guess I just checked the edit had been accepted and looked OK without checking what was above it. Yeah, with the section number editing, I've seen the same problem at T:TDYK – it's probably more common there as that page gets edited more. I can understand why WP goes on section numbers (in case there are duplicate section titles) so I suppose we have to live with it.

I pulled it due to the fact that QR color didn't exist at the time that the discussion was closed. However, since it is a simple replacement of one template with another, which seems a bit odd, I suppose it's not that controversial. I will go ahead and deleted it after I purge all transclusions to make sure it is indeed orphaned. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:08, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
QR color should not have a documentation page, it is a color template intended to be used with Rail color box and S-line, and usually should not be used on its own. I already orphaned the old one. —Train2104 (talk · contribs · count · email) 00:15, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Depending on how the RfC goes, this might end up being a good candidate for pending changes! Hobit (talk) 20:18, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for helping me with the Template:Infobox television episode/sandbox code. I'm completely lost when it comes to these things. All seems to be working now. Thank you very much.–FunkyVoltron talk 14:46, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

No problem. I responded further on Chris's page. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:48, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Do you think it's ready to be implemented now? The image thing will certainly mess things up in a lot of articles, but I suppose it's a necessary transition.–FunkyVoltron talk 15:55, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
What is the image problem? I can see if I can fix that as well. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Images will appear like this because most, perhaps all, television articles call on images in that fasion.–FunkyVoltron talk 16:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
You're fast. That almost solved it. The Image size field is not included though. is how most articles call on images. Isn't there some bot that can take the number before "px" and add it to the "Image size" field while moving the file to "Image". That would solve everything.–FunkyVoltron talk 16:06, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
|Image size= foo does nothing in the live template. It is a dummy parameter that does nothing. The size of the image is currrently specified at the level of the transclusion. Thanks for the additional season list example. I will work on it as well. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:10, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I should've looked that up. Do you think the Previous/Next fields will work like that without errors? I tried to make the box more dynamic than the current.–FunkyVoltron talk 16:17, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I haven't checked that yet. What we should do is create a "testcases" subpage with as many possible examples as possible, and do a side-by-side comparison of the sandbox with the live template (e.g., what is done at Template:Infobox settlement/testcases or other templates). Once folks are satisfied that there aren't any problems we can roll it out. I can help out a bit more but not for a few hours. I have another appointment soon. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:21, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
All right, I added three test cases to the testcases page. As you can see, I've moved the "directed by" field above the writer fields. I did this subconsciously because I was using Infobox film. That is easy to change, obviously.–FunkyVoltron talk 16:45, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Using a stripped-down season list works well with the sandbox template, I've discovered. I've added a fake season list to the second test to try this out.–FunkyVoltron talk 16:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

I've been experimenting, trying to get it to hide the season list. Is there a way to make one header collapsed but not the others?–FunkyVoltron talk 20:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

All right, I found a half-decent way to display season lists in one header, overriding the header's default color with white. The snag, of course, is that it only works with season lists that are as simple as my little guinea pig.–FunkyVoltron talk 21:00, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I got it to work, using your code, although a border is clearly visible. I do think it should be contained in one field.–FunkyVoltron talk 21:09, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
The collapsible feature is a nice touch, but might be better to have inside the template for the season list, rather than in the main template? The outer border is not so good in my opinion, and it would be better to split this field back into two. As a general point of procedure, I think we should start by making something that is as close as possible in appearance to the original. That should be relatively uncontroversial, and easy to get consensus for implementation. Once that is achieved, we can look into adding more features or tweaks. There are some exceptions in that we should "bend over backwards" trying to get the CSS tweaked so that it matches exactly if the default value (without any custom CSS) is reasonable. We should strive for simplicity, and try to reduce the number of hacks. This is just my opinion. Thanks for all the hard work. I think we are getting close. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:23, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I tried that. It looks like this: either an empty space or a redundant header text, though I suppose it makes for nice, clean code. Of course, I was just experimenting with a possible improvement. As it is, it closely matches the current infobox. What else do you think is in need of overhauling?–FunkyVoltron talk 21:40, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I see what you mean about the redundant header text. That could be fixed by using something else within the episode list, like say a date range, or something. Or it could be fixed by removing the header entirely from the box. The only other minor difference that I see is that Infobox uses a hardcoded value of cellpadding=5, where the current template does not. This leads to some extra whitespace and some unexpected line wrapping (last example). However, could be dealt with by modifying the season list templates on a case-by-case basis (in my opinion). It seems like it is fine the way it is right now. We should have Chris have a look as well. I can't really do much more with it due to time constraints at the moment. UK place

We now have a full set of locator maps of Wales and Scotland. See the bottom of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scotland. Given that you said parsing the UK place infobox would be difficult I've made a suggestion for both Scotland and Wales to have a seperate infobox to make programming it easier. Other than that I propose a converison to infobox settlement for Scotland and Wales. Dr. Blofeld 13:16, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for creating the maps and the pointer to the discussion. I think forking the box would be a bad idea. The better path forward would be to "refactor" the nested case statements in the subtemplates, perhaps splitting them into multiple ones. All this would happen in the backend, rather than making a new frontend. I agree that converting the backend to call the settlement infobox would also be a step forward. Now if I only had a bit more time at the moment ... Thanks again! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:14, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
No need to worry about it now. I've updated Template:Infobox UK place/local to show the new Scottish and Welsh maps. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:07, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. Your efforts are appreciated. You have more patience than I do when it comes to spaghetti code. Plastikspork (talk) 21:11, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Looks incredibly complex. I thought you said is was complicated stuff Mr. Plastikspork? The programming looks relatively straightforward compared to others I've seen. Beyond my templating skills though!! Dr. Blofeld

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic. If you are, please use the sarcasm tag, or indicate otherwise. If you aren't, then I'm not sure why you would place such a post on my talk page. The diff you provided is quite large, and includes several nested case statements. As you said, it is beyond your skills, which I would classify as being "complicated". Regards. Plastikspork (talk) 21:10, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Aw lighten up. I wasn't certain if you were genuinely bafflied by it or were genuinely too busy to attend to it thats all. I didn't think there was any coding that ever tested you!! I was surprised how quickly WOS did it that's all but I believe he had something to do woth the UK template anyway so is very familiar with how it works. Dr. Blofeld 18:27, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

It sounds like you found someone with more time and patience I have at present. I'm glad you were able to resolve your issues. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:38, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, I think it is his programming anyway so has a bit of an advantage... Sorry if it seemed like I was "rubbing your face in it" so to speak. Nobody has been a greater help with templates ( or impressed me as much as you with them) than you on wikipedia.. Moving house eh? Must be extremely stressful!! Dr. Blofeld 12:54, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it is stressful. Thanks for the note. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:53, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Template:Infobox park

Good to see that you've been active. I had to clean up one article because of your modification to the park parameter as the page name was no longer available if the park name was not specified. I fixed it so that the park parameter is now required. I checked all articles that transclude the template. I also edited the documentation. I agree that the default values are generally adequate but I think there is too much the top and bottom padding of rows. I might reintroduce that change. –droll [chat] 20:18, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I agree, removing the whole PAGENAME is the best. I was trying to keep the functionality the same. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:58, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Would you be able to help me a little with it? I'm trying to upload the cover of the single to be the picture, but I'm a little confused as to how to upload it since there are so many restrictions. I don't think there is a copyright issue because the cover picture is on a lot of websites. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlespotenza (talkcontribs) 23:06, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Limited resolution album covers do seem to fall under WP:FAIRUSE. You will probably want to place Album cover fur on the file page. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:54, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

How do you upload the pictures though? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlespotenza (talkcontribs) 20:38, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

If you check the toolbar on the left side of the screen, it should have an option for "upload file". This is the link to uploading. If you need more pointers, you can try reading Wikipedia:Uploading images. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:36, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

History merge of Ann XXX templates

Since you've history merged Template:Ann manga into Template:Ann, shouldn't the same be done to Template:Ann anime, Template:Ann company, and Template:Ann name for the exact same reasons? —Farix (t | c) 22:05, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

If all four were developed in parallel, then I can only history merge one of them. Otherwise, if you try to follow the edit history it would be all jumbled. Is the one that I merged the best choice? Or would you like to merge a different one instead? Currently, the history of the others appear to be preserved by looking at the history of the redirects. If you would prefer for me to split this off and undue to the history merge, I can do that as well. Just let me know. I only closed one of the discussions, so I wasn't aware of the potential for history merging the others. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:34, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
All four were developed in parallel with each other, so one template isn't "better" than the other. When Template:Ann was created, it merged the code form all four templates at the same time. Personally, I don't think it is appropriate to history merge only one of them. Either they all should be history merged or they all should not. —Farix (t | c) 22:43, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay, in that case I will reverse the merge and place the history behind the redirect as it was before. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:16, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Noindex

Looking for some clarification, but is there any reason in particular to not use a template in another template, such as here? Not that I expect the software to change from using noindex, but if it does at some point in the future, wouldn't it be helpful if it references a template instead of being hardcoded? I'm sure you have a reason for what you are doing, I'm just wondering what it is. Thanks, --Terrillja talk 04:33, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

All transclusions of the magic word are already available in a category, so they are no harder to find than with "what links here". Substituting the template reduces the number of templates being transcluded on a page, which improves rendering speed, and reduces the chance of hitting the Wikipedia:Template limits. Given that this template is currently has over 600k transclusions, it would seem like a good idea to just simply bypass it and use the magic word instead. However, some may disagree, and feel free to revert me. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:37, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

A request

Hi Plastikspork,

I would like to ask you to deliver Yopie this warning message as an uninvolved administrator:

Extended content

The Arbitration Committee has permitted administrators to impose, at their own discretion, sanctions on any editor working on pages broadly related to Eastern Europe if the editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process. If you engage in further inappropriate behavior in this area, you may be placed under sanctions including blocks, a revert limitation or an article ban. The committee's full decision can be read at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Digwuren#Final decision.

The user has been caused me a lot of chagrin by wikihounding and trolling, for which I promised him to be reported at ArbCom and that I am ready to redeem. Of course I am able to prove my assertions by diffs if needed. However, the process requisites a prior warning by an uninvolved administrator and that is why I need your succour. Regards,--Nmate (talk) 14:22, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm currently extremely busy moving at the moment, but I will see if I can get to later today or tomorrow. If you want more speedy action, then you should feel free to ask another admin. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:27, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
No rush at all. My problem is not urgent, howevever, it is persistent, unfortunately. If you would be so kind as to devote some meagre amount of your time to my case tomorrow afternoon, that would be fine for me.--Nmate (talk) 15:57, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Look, there is a user whose English is very very "puny". While I readily admit that my English is yet far from perfect, it is juttingly obvious that Yopie is unable to fill even a sketch type of vandalism or 3RR report in correct English. I am not telling that his English is absolutely undecipherable but he is unable to make substantial edits to the English Wikipedia. So that it is safe to say that here on English Wikipedia, the only thing that he can be adept at is nothing more than POV-reverting. But that should not be a problem yet in itself, however, he also has a strong penchant for wikihounding and making personal attacks aimed at Hungarian users. And because I am also Hungarian, it is a problem for me, unfortunately. I am often obliged to deplete my supply of 3RR when editing Wikipedia at articles in which he has never ever been interested beforehand because of his perennial wikihounding. And when I am trying to exhort him to stop wikihoundig, the user keeps denying that his acts were wikihounding. By the way, his opinion about Hungarians is outcryingly obnixious and the way in which he conducts towards Hungarians is ghastly spiteful and it glaringly displays both when interacting with Hungarian users and when trying to edit Hungarian related articles or their talk pages with his tarnish English. The user often sends me "vandalism warnings" on my talk page and his presumptuousness is culminated in sending me a warning about non English communication on my talk page.A user whose English is jumbled grammatically, warned me about non English communication. Also, the user twice denounced me on Wikiquette alert because I called his deportment sickly and that I told him that "rv wikistalking. It looks that Yopie needs to be humiliated by a community ban from editing wikipedia for indefinite time" in an edit summary while I was beseted with wikihounding and false vandalism messages by him.Interesting to note that he made a personal attack on me even in his Wikiquette alert-report. The user has more than a year of history of wikihounding by now. Right now I have no time to dredge up the diffs from his editing history, but if you so wish, I will do it tomorrow afternoon.--Nmate (talk) 19:23, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Can you shade in the header background from white to the very light grey used for the col headers for Wikipedia:Main Page alternative (encyclopedia). Can you also change the text font to something posher, the sort of elegant writing you'd see in an old encyclopedia providing it is legible.. I decided to create something a little different as an option with a knowledge theme.. Dr. Blofeld 12:03, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

hello...

i'd apreciate if you could not insult my subjects as everything i wrote about them is true... example is Andre Birleanu.... all it is written is written on a neutral point of view... i am not here to argue for endless hours, just asking for a human being to another to read material before you disect everything with your idee of what truth is...i added over 50 links so there is no problems... please take your time and read them... this guy, this Andre Birleanu is a supermodel... thats who he is, that's his job !!!so why is deleted and repleced by model... there is a diference you know... it's not just a word to these people, it's their career, please respect it... and again, read the links for better understanding of the subject... if you dont understand the subject or the nature of this industry then my friend, please do not ruin my work by deleting vital things just to cut the form you like... i dont see you cutting Brad Pitt's article to pieces.. tell me why is that... if someone is the best then he is the best... why do i have tosay he is just ok... ? when article in 23 languages say so ?

again.. please , i dont want to fight .. ijust want to read a true article that we all contributed too with links from all over the world.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andre Birleanu (talkcontribs) 19:17, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. You called him "your subject", but here you claim that you are Andre. So which is it? You should probably change your user name if you are not Andre, since it has triggered a WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY flag. In any event, you will want to read WP:OWN, since it is not "your subject". I have cut language per WP:PEACOCK. The sourcing is not very good per WP:RS. Far too many blogs. The term supermodel is discouraged as it is not a well defined term. Who certifies a model as a "supermodel". I do understand WP:BLP quite well. I would suggest you read that as well. As far as Brad Pitt is concerned, I don't see how that applies. Brad Pitt is an actor, Andre Birleanu is not an actor. I edit thousands of articles, including many biographies of living people. You can check my contributions. You can check your contributions as well. Apparently Andre is the only thing that you are familiar with, and you don't edit any other articles. I am happy to have another editor have a look as well, but I am afraid that WP:PEACOCK words such as "strong" and "strongest" and "supermodel" will not last long in this article. Thank you. The Challenge: Cutthroat spoiler leaked

Hello Plastikspork. On The Challenge: Cutthroat page, I was unfortunate to notice that SOMEBODY recently dropped a spoiler in the article, as well as in the Revision History section (it was reverted shortly after). I WILL NOT say here what that spoiler is, and I thought I'd forewarn you that if you DO NOT want to know what that spoiler is, then you may want to shield your eyes (from the right half side of your computer screen) from the Revision history of The Challenge: Cutthroat section for the date of September 18, 2010. Because of this, I recommend semi-protecting the Cutthroat page for a period of three months (which, assuming the season has 10 episodes and a reunion special, will cover the duration of the season) before someone else decides to spoil things again for everyone. I know that it will happen, just like the previous Challenge season (Fresh Meat II). Thank you. DPH1110 (talk) 05:15, 19 September 2010 (UTC)DPH1110

This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:44, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

A task for SporkBot

When you are done doing Do not delete, can you run the bot through all of the entries on this list? There are 4000 entries on the list, but only 407 have more than 10 transclusions, 26 over 100. The first one (WPBannerMeta/collapsed) is similar to Do not delete in that there are very few true uses (i.e. null edits will be needed). Also, Pending deletion has no true transclusions at all and can be skipped.

Note: Many of these are userboxes and other things that are not mainly used in the articlespace.

Thanks! — Train2104 (talkcontribscount) 18:55, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
