Thank you for your welcome message!
I would like to leave you a short message saying "thank you" for welcoming me to the Wikipedia. It makes it much more encouraging working on the Wikipedia when you know there are other people to communicate with. Regards, --TimElessness 10:14, 7 May 2011 (UTC).
Poland WW2
Thanks for your update. Do you have the Szarota book Straty Osobowe? My Polish is limited at this point and can only pick out the basic facts from the tables. Straty Osobowe seems like an excellant resource for Wikipedia if only I could read it. I just applied for Social Security and will now have the time to tackle Polish.--Woogie10w (talk) 18:47, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

I just reviewed Uncle Yo at T:DYK. You can see my review there, but essentially I agree with the article's tagger that this could use another third-party reliable source. Native languages and mother tongues
I saw your note regarding B class reviews for Karl Marx on WP:BUSINESS. I wasn't aware that your first language was other than English. You have excellent English, far better than my pathetic misrememberings of other languages I've taken a year in. Just a note to let you note that you do something well: English. The Untold Battle of Britain
Focused on Polish Squadron 303, was shown in UK on Channel 4, May 14th. A clear, factual account, with statistics. Good brief excerpts of interviews with Polish veterans, actors only doing dramatization to assist narrative. It ends matter of factly with the Betrayal and the 1946 humiliation of the London VE ceremony. It offers the case that the 1940 Battle of Britain saved the nation from invasion, that it was close, and that it may not have been won without the Poles, who were by far the best units. I've recently visited St Clement Danes in London, photographed the Polish air corps memorial there, as shown on "Polish Air Forces in France and Great Britain" Wiki site.Alethe (talk) 21:03, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

The article Czerwono-Czarni has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A7 -- This article about a band does not indicate why its subject is important or significant.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Epeefleche (talk) 05:11, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 May newsletter
We're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Racepacket (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.
A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Thanks for the help with referencing, that will be a big help moving forward. --Rsoruss (talk) 19:57, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- Great, thanks again! I was having trouble fixing the ref, even after going over the reference help pages a few times, but now I think I've finally fixed it.--Rsoruss (talk) 20:39, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- I appreciate the additional feedback on the history section -- I'll see to it that the distinction and connection between social media and social web are made more apparent. I capitalized social media because the author of one of the references does so, but I'll fix that as well. However, at the moment our group is facing a bit of a problem: it seems our article has been put up for some sort of review (potentially deletion?!) and we cannot edit it at the moment. I'm not sure how to proceed at this point; do you think this is short term or are we effectively locked out of the article for what looks to be like a long period of time? --Rsoruss (talk) 00:47, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I see the mistake I made -- It's interesting to note what an effect one letter can have! Yes, I was experimenting with the multiple page referencing template, which I'll now be more careful about inputing in the future. Thank you for correcting it!! I was certainly worried there for a second myself--Rsoruss (talk) 01:06, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

I think that the catch for DYK could be: Do you know that ..........."The description of Dushmani dialect made by Polish linguist Cimochowski, was the first full description of the non-literary types of the Albanian language...". Anyway I will look for more sources on him. Regards Aigest (talk) 20:39, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Changes to Project Camelot entry
Hello Piotr,
The reference to McFate is no longer valid as it has been removed by its original author. All quotes and references to that source have been removed (18 May 2011): [1] McFate, Montgomery. (March-April, 2005). "Anthropology and Counterinsurgency: The Strange Story of their Curious Relationship". Military Review. LINK: http://www.army.mil/professionalwriting/volumes/volume3/august_2005/7_05_2.html
The rest is a re-write based on the accessible and verifiable references. References to written publications I cannot check have been left as they are. References to written publications that were checked and that did not in fact lead to the publication have been removed. e.g. http://www.jstor.org/pss/2391067 You should find all references and links to sources verifiable now.
Kind regards.

Hello Piotr,
I'm still getting the hang of this, is there another way to reply? You found the document again! Wow! How did you do that? I'm still hunting all over the site for the same link. I'll replace that as soon as I can - probably some time later today but just to let you know I've seen your note and I'll get to it as quickly as I can. Bluestar68 (talk) 18:28, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah! I'm a doofus and never even thought it would just have moved. I guess too many times seeing 404 from a search in the past. Cool. I'll get to it in a bit. I need a clear head to deal with all the coding although I love the double square bracket code, that's really clever. The reference tags too. Is this the right way to reply? I used the 'new sections' bit to get to this screen. Can't find the editor -> editor. All I see is the 'talk button. Can you give me the location on page? :D Bluestar68 (talk) 19:10, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
I've got it now (the reply that is). No I didn't know about the Internet Archive. I'm learning something new every day! :) I'll get on it as soon as I can. I've got a priority job on at the moment and I'm not moving very fast on it! lol (oh, the tildes are great too) Bluestar68 (talk) 19:43, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Would you look at the DYK nomination again. OCNative directs me to remove the biographies from the article, which would make it impossible to tell the story of the aid to Solidarity---the hook.
(It would also destroy the context of several generations of political activists who worked together on civil rights and human rights (anti-communism), and who today are vilified on the Internet by conspiracy weirdos of the left and right.)

Polish food item discussed at Wiknic
Nice to meet you at the Wiknic. I will definitely be attending more of these events.
The English labeling on my puzling food is "Red Beets with Garlic." There is Polish that says "Buraczki z Czosnkiem." The ingredients are red beets, garlic, caraway, sugar, vinegar, and salt. It is in a small 200 gram jar. I hope to learn how people in Poland eat this item. Googling it gets lots of articles in Polish.
I read the article on Polish culture during World War II. Very interesting. While researching Red Beets with Garlic, I remember seeing that Polish cooking changed greatly during and after WWII, mostly because many traditional ingredients were not available. Perhaps there was some cultural oppression, as well. Lou Sander (talk) 15:18, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Beets
Mine are very much like Ćwikła. They have no horseradish, so are probably milder in taste. Right now, their taste is overwhelmed by stronger tastes such as those of meats. Also mine are ground much finer than Ćwikła seems to be.
For now, I am satisfied that my Beets and Garlic are a milder, slightly smoother, variety of Ćwikła. Thanks for the information. Lou Sander (talk) 17:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments about my new article. I am still working on it and plan to expand it. I don't think it's ready for DYK just yet. Joining Wikipedia Trains Project
Hello, Piotrus (you sent me a 'Welcome' message when I contributed a few edits to Wikipedia articles - probably due to some References I added to the article on 'Neighbors' concerning Jedwabne. But most of my edits are on RAILWAYS articles)
--- I have considered joining the Wikipedia Trains Project, and contributing Assessments of Importance (especially) and of Quality. (I find the present 'Importance' assessments to be absolutely HAYWIRE, in a number of cases (Important subjects receive low rankings, low-importance trivialities appear in hordes). And 'Quality' assessments leave much to be desired).
HOWEVER, I FIND THE INSTRUCTIONS TO BE IMPENETRABLE. I just tried to add my name to the 'Participants' list for the Trains Project, where each Participant's line starts with a computerized identification - I COULDN'T FIND ANY WAY TO JOIN, NO WAY TO ADD MY IDENTITY.
(NOTE: I USE A COMPUTER A LOT, BUT I HAVE A TALENT FOR FINDING/CREATING GLITCHES IN SOFTWARE. SOFTWARE AND I HAVE A VERY UNEASY COEXISTENCE !!!!)
SECOND: The 'Assessments' page for the Trains Project gives a good explanation of what the basis for Quality and Importance Assessments should be, but instructions on how to SUBMIT such Assessments are TOTALLY IMPENETRABLE - there's something about the 'Wikipedia Trains Project Banner' - I FIND THE INSTRUCTIONS IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW !!!
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
ESSENTIALLY, I AM A NON-FLUENT USER OF COMPUTERESE - ALLERGIC TO COMPUTER-ORIENTED ENGLISH. (In the 'PREVIEW' the Wikipedia software has divided my writing into different formats - I NEVER ASKED IT TO DO THIS! HELP !!)
(My general background: I have experience in New York government on matters relating to the largest rail operator in North America, the New York MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority - it's several times the size of Amtrak). I worked at the policy level. However, my rail interests are much broader - I follow European rail closely, I read French and German in addition to English, and at this moment I am especially interested in China, where rail transport is developing at a rate which dwarfs what is happening in the rest of the world).
If I am to contribute to 'Assessments' in the Trains Project (is this actually important, or not?) I WILL NEED HELP with the computer-related side.
Thanks in advance for any assistance - Prospero10 (talk) 20:00, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Update: Wiki Project Trains/Members
Thanks for your reply. Well, I somehow got my name into the 'Participants' list, but in the process, I seem to have knocked the letter 'P' out of the alphabetical listing, which now jumps from 'O' to 'R' (see how amateurs like me can screw up Wiki software! We're dangerous). I also appreciate your pointer to use 'Templates' to make Importance Assessments, and I look forward to a trial-and-error session to see if I can actually submit an Assessment --- Prospero10 (talk) 22:50, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Change made; Poland to get modern trains
Thanks, I've made the change, without really understanding what I'm doing. On an UNRELATED SUBJECT, you might be interested in http://www.railwaygazette.com/nc/news/single-view/view/pkp-intercity-signs-pendolino-contract.html. In 2014 Poland will acquire trains which are more modern than the most modern trains now operating in the US, on the Washington-New York-Boston 'Northeast Corridor.' Admin Reviews
Piotr, I was wondering how Wikipedia selects admins and determines how they maintain this if they've shown any sort of bias towards (or against) an article? I couldn't find it anywhere in the guidelines about who to go to or talk to when one suspects something like this is in order. Thanks. Cordova829 (talk) 03:06, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't think that method would work. Oh well, I was curious. Some fights on here seem to be circular and self-serving, and I've found myself moving towards the inclusionism side of things now deletionism and inclusionism, since I don't want to be some ivory tower Wikipedia gatekeeper. Rewolucyjni Mściciele
Can you please take a look at the second sentence of the background section? There seems to be something missing that I cannot parse it. Also, I have completed my copyedit of the article. A number of points remain unclear, I have left html comments/queries visible in edit mode. Cheers, --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 14:40, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 June newsletter
We are half way through 2011, and entering the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; the semi-finals are upon us! Points scored in the interim (29/30 June) may be counted towards next round, but please do not update your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. 16 contestants remain, and all have shown dedication to the project to reach this far. Our round leader was Casliber (submissions) who, among other things, successfully passed three articles through featured article candidates and claimed an impressive 29 articles at Did You Know, scoring 555 points. Casliber led pool D. Pool A was led by Wizardman (submissions), claiming points for a featured article, a featured list and seven good article reviews, while pool C was led by Eisfbnore (submissions), who claimed for two good articles, ten articles at Did You Know and four good article reviews. They scored 154 and 118 respectively. Pool B was by far our most competitive pool; six of the eight competitors made it through to round 4, with all of them scoring over 100 points. The pool was led by Hurricanehink (submissions), who claimed for, among other things, three featured articles and five good articles. In addition to the four pool leaders, 12 others (the four second places, and the 8 next highest overall) make up our final 16. The lowest scorer who reached round 4 scored 76 points; a significant increase on the 41 needed to reach round 3. Eight of our semi-finalists scored at least twice as much as this.
No points were awarded this round for featured pictures, good topics or In the News, and no points have been awarded in the whole competition for featured topics, featured portals or featured sounds. Instead, the highest percentage of points has come from good articles. Featured articles, despite their high point cost, are low in number, and so, overall, share a comparable number of points with Did You Know, which are high in number but low in cost. A comparatively small but still considerable number of points come from featured lists and good article reviews, rounding out this round's overall scores.
We would again like to thank Jarry1250 (submissions) and Stone (submissions) for invaluable background work, as well as all of those helping to provide reviews for the articles listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please do keep using it, and please do help by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup.
Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here, for those interested, though it appears that neither are completely accurate at this time. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 23:38, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
DYK for The Last Ringbearer
On 2 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Last Ringbearer, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that The Last Ringbearer, an English translation of a Russian alternative retelling of Lord of the Rings, has been published as a non-commercial ebook after a 10-year delay due to fears of litigation? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

I'm happy you perceived my article. Currenty I'm covering the Austro-Hungarian War of 1477-1488. I've created the Siege of Vienna (1485) yesterday and the Battle of Leitzersdorf the day before. So I'm quite busy to nominate them (and also I'm constantly unsatisfied with them) but I will be very pleased if others do so and feel like it worths a front page as it did happen with the Peace Treaty of Wiener Neustadt. Feel free to overrule my small ego. Cheers. Lajbi Holla @ me • CP 19:11, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
GOCE drive invitation
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

Speedy deletion nomination of Józef Tusk
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Józef Tusk requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Who.was.phone (talk) 18:23, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Removing Speedy at Józef Tusk
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Józef Tusk, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion and appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 18:25, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

I know I said I stopped caring whether Mme. Hanska passed FAC or not, but apparently I was wrong. This fills me with frustration and despair, and I'm really mad at you right now. If I were you, I would have either:
- Actually stepped up and voted to Oppose; or
- Confined my relatively minor gripes to the article's talk page and not blocked FAC because of a small organizational disagreement.

Memorial article
Regarding my lack of a DYK nomination for Janusz Kusociński Memorial – from hook creation, to nomination and article reviewing, the new DYK rules mean that a nomination typically takes me around 40 minutes. This is a significant portion of the time I spend working here. In response to this, I now only nominate particularly interesting pieces (Ondoro Osoro for example). However, some editors have been kind enough to nominate other articles I have created. I'll keep you in mind next time I create a Polish-based article! Cheers. SFB 17:56, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your note, and this clearly does have a lot of potential. I began with a broad translation of the early sections of the German language WP article then started to create links from other articles. I guess the next stage will be a chronology and adding citations. I haven't yet found any good English-language specific sources, but there should be useful material in general histories – the early volumes of the Cambridge Modern History spring to mind, of which the first series is all online here. Unfortunately, I am terribly busy in real life all this week and may not have it up to speed in time for the DYK five-day deadline. But no matter. Moonraker (talk) 23:06, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Moze by bylo dobrze zcanvassowac WikiProject Poland zeby ktos cos napisal? Jaka powinna byc frekwencja wydawnictwa? Pytam sie bo ostatnio zerknelem na WPP Most Popular pages i to jest dosyc dziwna lista. Wiec sobie myslalem zeby to jakos przeanalizowac i jakos to napisac (powszechnie rzec biorac to wyglada na to ze artykulu ktore sa najbardziej popularne wsrod czytelnikow to raczej cos innego niz artykulu ktore sa najbardziej popularne wsrod edytorow Projectu. Hej. Pozdrawiam serdecznie. Gytha (talk) 19:54, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Looking for your help :D
Hi Piotr, hope you still remember me. We met at the Pittsburgh Wicnic not too long ago. I'm one of Professor Kraut's research assistant currently conducting research on Wikipedia. I remember that we didn't get a chance to talk about the research last time, but if you're up for it, I'd like to talk to you a little about the experiment we're hoping to conduct and solicit some of your opinions and suggestions. Since we're all still rather new to Wikipedia, we could use some advice from an experienced Wikipedian like you! If you're willing to talk, send me an email at jipingh@andrew.cmu.edu so we can further this discussion off-site. Thanks! Jipinghe (talk) 20:21, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Some Thoughts
Piotr, I didn't know where else to take this so I decided to bring it to your attention, as you're the only seemingly unbiased wiki admin I can find. RE: Deletion of Lawyers in Hell and the subsequent merging of other novels: I am of the opinion that the only solution is well written pages with links to all the named writers and synopses of the books and stories as well as commentaries and reviews. However, it seems that the Lawyers in Hell was unfairly targeted for speedy deletion while others with similar pages across wiki have stayed up for upwards of five years. Other than the discussion for AfD, which seemed to reach no consensus (and then all of the pages were merged when I was on vacation), is there a way where a mutual consensus could be reached without contributors and admins grabbing for their nearest hammers to beat each other with? Cordova829 (talk) 17:20, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- No, it's okay. Probably shouldn't have gotten that annoyed over it. Hope the next three weeks don't drive you insane. Cordova829 (talk) 02:16, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

The fact was ... that the official magazine of the Polish Underground State published 80 issues in the dangerous conditions of occupied Poland? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Ambassador Program: assessment drive
Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.
In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.
Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

WikiCup 2011 July newsletter
We are half way through the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; there is less than a month to go before we have our final 8. Our pool leaders are Adabow (submissions) (Pool A, 189 points) and PresN (submissions) (Pool B, 165 points). The number of points required to reach the next round is not clear at this time; there are some users who still do not have any recorded points. Please remember to update your submissions' pages promptly. In addition, congratulations to PresN, who scored the first featured topic points in the competition for his work on Thatgamecompany related articles. Most points this round generally have, so far, come from good articles, with only one featured article (White-bellied Sea Eagle, from Casliber (submissions)) and two featured lists (Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, from PresN and Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album, from Another Believer (submissions)). Points for Did You Know and good article reviews round out the scoring. No points have been awarded for In the News, good topics or featured pictures this round, and no points for featured sounds or portals have been awarded in the entire competition. On an unrelated note, preparation will be beginning soon for next year's WikiCup- watch this space!
There is little else to be said beyond the usual. Please list anything you need reviewing on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, so others following the WikiCup can help, and please do help if you can by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup- points are, of course, offered for reviews at GAC. Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here. J Milburn and The ed17 11:39, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

hello, there was an author disambig problem in the above article and in fixing it I noticed you made this edit in 2006 [7] which stated that the author in question was Parker. But if you follow the google link in the article the author appears to be Mearsheimer. The book doesn't appear to be a collection of essays by different authors so there appears to have been a mistake and i've corrected it. "Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU" announcements
I see that you cross-posted a promotion of the "Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU" event to the talk pages of somewhere around 15 to 20 university articles. While I admire your motives—I mean, I've managed class wiki projects in the past myself—I really don't think that was an appropriate use of article talk pages, especially for the talk pages of relatively distant universities like Grove City. Announcements like the one you made are probably best left in the User Talk space or on WikiProject pages, I think. I originally reverted the announcements on Pitt's and CMU's talk pages because I watch those articles, but I then realized you'd posted the announcement much more widely than I thought. I decided to restore the announcements to Pitt's and CMU's talk pages, then leave you a note, since I don't intend to behave belligerently—mass-reverting another editor's changes to 15+ pages isn't in my nature :). I'll leave it up to you whether you wish to remove the postings in your own judgement. Cheers. —Bill Price (nyb) 21:08, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Mowiawieki136.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Mowiawieki136.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. - Greetings! I have not completed the article about the clan, I would rather think that it give true picture although the article is very long. But then, its all there. Think that the article might be concidered now as GA article, I would still need som help with language, style and possible errors. Also, the the reference list could be sorted in better way, don't know if it is necessary (naming the references so it does not repeat but refer to style like a,b,c,d....
- If you think that the article is ready for nomination, we could try to enter it on the list. Best regards,Camdan 15:47, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hello! I went through the article again and come up with following. All references should have a page number (this will take months to do) and also, the article contains partly the history of Poland which some editors does not like and tell that to make it to GA, I should remove this part and leave only the info about Ostoja. My feeling is that historical explanations are important to understand the article in better way and if it is required to remove this part, I would rather leave the article on B-class. What is your opinion on that? Best regards,Camdan 18:09, 11 August 2011 (UTC)talk
- Thank You for Your suggestions and time spending on matter. I will use the suggestion on help with article. DYK
Re [8] I totally understand where you're coming from and that annoyed me as well. But this is a perspective of someone who's doing good in a crowd that's doing bad - in other words, they really DO NEED to do something to get copyright violations of the main page. And if you go back and look through DYK features it's actually mindblowing of how much copy/paste articles get checked off (strangely, almost every single one of MY DYK noms has been given a hard time for comparatively trivial stuff). Now, of course, this being Wikipedia, they're totally "fixing" a problem by creating other problems. To misquote Kisiel [9] "Wikipedia bohatersko zwalcza problemy nieznane w innych ustrojach!". Just an FYI, I had to decline the proposed deletion of this article. There was clearly an argument to keep the article on the discussion page (they even put keep in bold text like an AfD !vote) so deletion would be controversial. I can't see anything at CSD that would apply to the article so your best bet would be AfD. Thanks. -- Atama頭 18:55, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors: Time to join pods
Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:
- Working closely with the instructor and Campus Ambassadors, providing advice and perspective as an experienced Wikipedian
- Helping students who ask for it (or helping them to find the help they need)
- Watching out for the class as a whole
- Helping students to get community feedback on their work
This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.
You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.
Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.
If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.

PS: There are still a lot of student articles from the last term that haven't been rated. Please rate a few and update the list!
The article Anthony D. Williams has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- BLP which has been tagged as needing reliable sources for 3 years with no fixes. Appears the book may be notable, but not clear he is from the sources available.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 00:39, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Proposed Deletion: Polish Saint Patrick's Day
Dear Sir:
I am hopeful that Wikipedia will not remove this page.
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Polish_Saint_Patrick's_Day
For the last seven years, there is a group of family and friends that has celebrated this day and have created holiday. My cousins and myself all are very proud of our Polish heritage, and it has been a joy to watch something grow from idea to 50 people gathering in celebration. We were hoping to create a little buzz for next year's event. This year we hope to have over 100 people there, and hopefully raise some money for local veterans.
This day is not a Hoax althoug the origins of the holiday are pure fiction, created as a back story to the holiday, to have some fun.
The second section is 90% truth with the section about the Leprechaun(films) are sadly the absolute truth.
Please let me know what we can do to not have this deleted. It important that to a number of people keep Polish St. Patrick's Day on Wikipedia.
Thank You for your time,

One of the eight remaining contestants will be this year's WikiCup champion! 150 was the score needed to progress to the final; just under double the 76 required to reach round 4, and more than triple the 41 required to reach round 3. Our eight finalists are:
- Casliber (submissions), Pool A's winner. Casliber has the highest total score in the competition, with 1528, the bulk of which is made up of 8 featured articles. He has the highest number of total featured articles (8, 1 of which was eligible for double points) and total did you knows (72) of any finalist. Casliber writes mostly on biology, including ornithology, botany and mycology.
- PresN (submissions), Pool B's winner and the highest scorer this round. PresN is the only finalist who has scored featured topic points, and he has gathered an impressive 330, but most of his points come from his 4 featured articles, one of which scored double. PresN writes mostly on video games and the Hugo Awards.
- Hurricanehink (submissions), Pool A's runner-up. Hurricanehink's points are mostly from his 30 good articles, more than any other finalist, and he is also the only finalist to score good topic points. Hurricanehink, as his name suggests, writes mostly on meteorology.
- Wizardman (submissions), Pool B's runner-up. Wizardman has completed 86 good article reviews, more than any other finalist, but most of his points come from his 2 featured articles. Wizardman writes mostly on American sport, especially baseball.
- Miyagawa (submissions), the "fastest loser" (Pool A). Miyagawa has written 3 featured lists, one of which was awarded double points, more than any other finalist, but he was awarded points mostly for his 68 did you knows. Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, including dogs, military history and sport.
- Resolute (submissions), the second "fastest loser" (Pool B). Most of Resolute's points come from his 9 good articles. He writes mostly on Canadian topics, including ice hockey.
- Yellow Evan (submissions), who was joint third "fastest loser" (Pool A). Most of Evan's points come from his 10 good articles, and he writes mostly on meteorology.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions), who was joint third "fastest loser" (Pool B). Most of Phil's points come from his 9 good articles, 4 of which (more than any other finalist) were eligible for double points. He writes mostly on aeronautics.
We say goodbye to our seven other semi-finalists, Another Believer (submissions), Piotrus (submissions), Grandiose (submissions), Stone (submissions), Eisfbnore (submissions), Canada Hky (submissions) and MuZemike (submissions). Everyone still in the competition at this stage has done fantastically well, and contributed greatly to Wikipedia. We're on the home straight now, and we will know our winner in two months.
In other news, preparations for next year's competition have begun with a brainstorming thread. Please, feel free to drop by and share any thoughts you have about how the competition should work next year. Sign ups are not yet open, but will be opened in due course. Watch this space. Further, there has been a discussion about the rule whereby those in the WikiCup must delcare their participation when nominating articles at featured article candidates. This has resulted in a bot being created by new featured article delegate Ucucha (talk · contribs). The bot will leave a message on FAC pages if the nominator is a participant in the WikiCup.
A reminder of the rules: any points scored after August 29 may be claimed for the final round, and please remember to update submission pages promptly. If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. On 1 September 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Silent Sejm, which you created or substantially expanded. New to Wikipedia, Hello!
Hello! This is Megan Callahan in your Sociology of Marriage class Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4PM letting you know that I now have an account of Wikipedia. My user name is Mjc112.
- hopefully this edit is done correctly? sorry for the earlier confusion! still getting the hang of things...
Mjc112 (talk) 19:43, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Edit
How are you, Piotrus? I have noted that you made the edit purportedly for the benefit of the article. But I still have not managed to understand what benefit the article has obtained from this edit and what intent you had while making this edit. If all the references of the article had been made in this way, then we would have had a better result? I am afraid that I will make guesses about these issues until you explain them to me. Have a good evening. Psychiatrick (talk) 18:40, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- People may be scared of not only the reference code, but also size and subject of an article. However, your idea to move the reference code to one place is not bad. Psychiatrick (talk) 19:26, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Battle of Clervaux
"German forces, primarily from the 2nd Panzer Division, 116th Panzer Division and the 126th Infantry Division (another account suggests the 2nd, Panzer Lehr Division and the 26th Volksgrenadier Division)[3] "
The second assertion is the correct one. The 126th was on the eastern front. You may find this link useful. Also, the map facing page 624 of Volume 7 of Das Deutsche Reich und der Zweite Weltkrieg confirms the 2., 26., and PzLehr facing the U.S. 28th Division. The German author for this section of the work is Detlef Vogel. The book was printed by Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt in 2001. ISBN is 3-421-05507-6.
The image [11] is also useful. This map is a good one and free to use because it is a U.S. military work.

DYK? for Bob Beckwith
I went over the references for Bob Beckwith and as I stated at Template:Did you know nominations/Bob Beckwith I went over the references again, made some minor changes as to positioning of refs, and I am pretty sure text is 100% supported by any citations that directly follow it. Could you look over it again, and if there are any specific things that concern you I would appreciate knowing... I provided a source for the hook (its the Yahoo News source in the article). Also, some groups of sentences have the citation at the end of them (i.e. I didn't put the same cite at the end of each sentence, just at the end of a group of sentences directly supported by the citation). Is this okay? I can copy the ref tag onto the end of each sentence but it just didn't seem necessary. Also, I created an ALT hook with the picture. All in all, let me know what you think. Thanks a lot! Moogwrench (talk) 05:29, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help with this. I may go back and source the sentences individually, just to be on the double safe side. Also, should "plagiarism" be checked off as well? Also, it seems like when you promoted the article you might have forgotten to put the "subst:" between the and "{{" and "DYKsubpage" on the first line of the template page, because it looks like it has broken template code. Sorry to bother you on this. Thanks again! Let me know if there is anything more that needs to be done for this to be put into queue. Moogwrench (talk) 19:55, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just tested it and this is how to make it work: just edit the subpage template and change "{{DYKsubpage" to "{{subst:DYKsubpage" in the first line at the very top of the edit box, and then it will show up as promoted by you. I would edit it, but then it would show up as promoted by me, something I wouldn't want. :) Thanks! Moogwrench (talk) 22:05, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

The article Interface: a journal for and about social movements has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable journal. No third party sources, not indexed in any major selective databases. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Crusio (talk) 10:00, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Course modeled on your GA model process
Michael at Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Courses/History of Design and Digital Media (Michael Mandiberg) designed his course around your GA model process, I thought you might be interested in maybe being an online ambassador. Also, how is Carnegie Library doing?--Pharos (talk) 15:07, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Piotr, I have modeled much of the WP component of my course around your GA process. Thanks for making it available, and thanks for making that clean up on my port. Also, thanks for pointing out the 3/5 5% discrepancy. I know you are teaching your own course, but if you did want to be an online ambassador that would be great. Lastly, how have you found the GA review process to go? Specifically, I am thinking about consistency across reviews, and timeliness of reviews. The Graphic Design Wikiproject, which this class fits under, seems less active than others both based off of the change log, and from the lack of response to Sage Ross' query to the talk page to see if anyone was still maintaining the project. Do you or Pharos have any advice here? Theredproject (talk) 17:29, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I saw the note you placed on Category talk:People by nationality and region and was wondering if it is ok to delete this category. It has remained empty for the two weeks since your message, so there doesn't seem to be any inclination by anyone to populate it. Interface article
Hi Piotr,
Thanks for the WP article on Interface and your sterling defence of it! So far it doesn't seem to have made the proposed for deletion list but I may be missing something. I've added various bits (incl another external link, from David Harvey's webpage, which may help with notability) and pointed out that WikiProject Sociology rates the article as middling important.
Fingers crossed and thanks again,
