[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Terry Flanagan Memorial Award, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Terry Flanagan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Awards and honors
[edit]You added a lot of tables to many players' articles with an extra column at the end. I'm not sure if there was a reason for this, but would you mind cleaning that up and removing the extra column please? Gloss • talk 00:05, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- You added an extra column that was empty at the end of each table. Do you have a clue what I'm referring to? Gloss • talk 00:57, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. Gloss • talk 01:00, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- The extra column at the end is to be used for references, so please use it for that purpose. Also, I have noticed that you are systematically removing the "u" from "honour", even in cases when the subject is Canadian. Honour (with the "u") is the correct Canadian spelling of the word, so please, per WP:RETAIN, do not change spellings to American English when there is no valid reason for such a change. Dolovis (talk) 02:42, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Dolovis: If a reference is going to be added, then the column is fine. But no point in having an empty column otherwise. Gloss • talk 03:31, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Gloss is correct, if there is no reference the column shouldn't be there. Technically the awards shouldn't be in a table anyways per Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Player pages format#Awards we use a bulleted list for awards. Dolovis however is correct about the u. You should leave Canadian English spelling on non-American player pages. -DJSasso (talk) 13:06, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Dolovis: If a reference is going to be added, then the column is fine. But no point in having an empty column otherwise. Gloss • talk 03:31, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

College all-star teams
[edit]Hi PensRule! Thank you for adding some of these awards. However, could I ask that you add references to these additions? Particularly in the case of good/featured articles such as Martin St. Louis and Craig Conroy? Since you must be working off a list already, it would be much easier for you to add this when making these edits than it would for others to have to go back and fill in the blanks. Cheers! Speedy deletion nomination of Template:2005–06 AHA standings (men)
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:2005–06 AHA standings (men) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>
).
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Kuhnhackl
[edit]Sorry for the late reply. The consensus at WP:HOCKEY has long been to not use those type of boxes, as they don't really do anything productive and just clutter articles (I always cite the Derek Jeter article, but even consider what Henri Richard with his 11 Cups would look like). I only undid Kuhnhackl and Malkin because I've got them watched on my page, and was going to make a mention of it, but just got caught up in things. Kaiser matias (talk) 02:02, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Category:1969 debut albums is a sub category of Category:1969 albums, as can be seen at either category page, and is clearly totally redundant in any case - a "1969 debut album" must, by definition, be a "1969 album" - Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 16:38, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
Alaska vacated victories
[edit]Please stop giving Alaska's vacated victories to their opponents. That's not how it works. Alaska doesn't get credit for the victories, but that doesn't mean their opponent does. If that's how it worked, Michigan would have won the 2013 NCAA Basketball Tournament, or at least been credited with doing so. But that's not how it works. Smartyllama (talk) 13:05, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey standings templates
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey standings templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Hi PensRule11385. The non-free use of this file was previously discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2015 December 1#File:Michigan State Spartan Helmet.svg and the close of the discussion resulted in the file only being used in Michigan State Spartans. If you would like clarification of this or otherwise feel that a mistake was made, you can ask the closing administrator Explicit about it per WP:CLOSECHALLENGE. Generally, copyrighted university team logos such as this are only considered acceptable to use for primary identification purposes at the top of or in the main infobox of the primary Wikipedia article (if one exists) about the school's athletic department/mascot, but not in articles about individual teams or individual seasons. In the latter cases, a logo specific to the team itself or a particular season may be used, but the default is not to use the main athletic department logo by default if no such other logos exist. Now, if you'd like, you can use a public domain file like a wordmark file, such a the script-logo that appears on the team's sweater if you can find one to upload to Wikimedia Commons. As long as it's just script lettering, it should be OK to upload as c:Template:PD-text logo. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:04, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

NAIA teams on List of NCAA ice hockey programs
[edit]I Pens, Thanks again for the hard work on the college hockey articles. I was about to add another NAIA team and paused for a second- thought they don't really belong on that specific list. Most of the old NAIA hockey teams were dual affiliated in NCAA and most of the others weren't dual members eventually went NCAA once the D3 championship was created. If we start adding ones like UM-Dearborn that never went NCAA, it detracts from the list subject of NCAA teams. Perhaps a separate list is needed, but not sure how many other than UM-Dearborn we could add? Currently there's a new group of NAIA varsity teams, mostly playing in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Unfortunately a lot of the history of NAIA Hockey goes dark besides the teams still playing in the NCAA. If there's not enough for a stand-alone list, the historical NAIA-hockey only teams could be added to a new section of NAIA Ice Hockey Championship which somewhat covers the history of NAIA hockey. Thoughts? --Bhockey10 (talk) 00:24, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
The article Mike Carr (ice hockey) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Player fails WP:NHOCKEY and WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PKT(alk) 15:57, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

MOS:SECTIONCAPS
[edit]Hi PensRule11385. I've noticed that you've been created (have created) a number of articles about individual hockey team seasons like 2020–21 Omaha Mavericks men's ice hockey season and 2020–21 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs men's ice hockey season. It seems that you're working off the same "template" (i.e. format, layout) when you create them. You might want to slightly tweak this "template" going forward per MOS:SECTIONCAPS since the same two section headings "Schedule and Results" and "Scoring Statistics" always seem to be using title case capitalization while the other section headings use sentence case capitalization. Since Wikipedia prefers the latter, tweaking the "template" will help avoid any need to clean up the sentence heading capitalization later on.
You might also want to add a WikiProject banner or two to the talk page when a create one of these articles since doing so will better integrate the article into Wikipedia and help make WikiProjects like WP:HOCKEY aware of the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:02, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:AIC Yellow Jackets wordmark.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:AIC Yellow Jackets wordmark.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Chester F. Cleaves at 1919–20 Bates men's ice hockey season
[edit]Hi PensRule11385! Would you be able to tell me your source for the roster at 1919–20 Bates men's ice hockey season#Roster?
I am trying to track down more information about Chester F. Cleaves. It seems that he dropped "Chester" & started to use the name "Freeman Cleaves". His Wikidata record is at wikidata:Q94118723.
What makes me think that they are the same person? These:
- "A Little Bragging". The Nashua Telegraph. Vol. 73, no. 190. October 13, 1947. p. 6. Retrieved 2023-09-01 – via NewspaperArchive.
- Chester Freeman Cleaves at Find a Grave
The reason that I ask is that many sources list his birth date as 1904 or October 13, 1904. However, the roster & Find a Grave are consistent in listing his birth date as October 31, 1901.
There may have been various reasons for the appearance of the later birth date. I think that it may have been forgery to qualify for US Army WWII service, since according to Find a Grave, he saw service 1942–1943. Or it might have been someone's typographical error. In any case, I am looking for a reliable source for the birth date, and Find a Grave does not qualify. I am hoping that tracking down the source for the roster that you inserted will help. Peaceray (talk) 21:42, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- The information I have is mostly from the school's yearbook (https://archive.org/details/mirror192000unse/page/134/mode/2up?q=hockey). According to the Bates Student (the school's newspaper), a person with last name of Cleaves played in one game for the hockey team in 1920 (page 30; volume XLVIII. No. 8; March 5, 1920; 5th column; https://archive.org/details/Bates_Student_1920/page/n29/mode/2up). While he was not a starter for the team and thus not included as a letterwinner, Chester Freeman Cleaves is the only person who was attending school at that time with that last name. His name also appears in multiple reports during the 1922 season, when he was still attending Bates, but vanishes from university accounts thereafter. Because he does not have a senior profile in the Bates Mirror I can't be certain of his birth date so I used the only other source I had at my disposal, the one on Find a Grave.
- If the date is wrong, you're welcome to change it, however, I think that is unlikely. First, if you look at the picture on Find a Grave, the birth year under Freeman is 1901. Secondly, because he was a college freshman in 1919, he was probably born no later than 1901 as that would make him around 18-years-old at the time. I can't saw with certainty that Cleaves wasn't born in 1904, only that it's very doubtful if you consider the other information. PensRule11385 (talk) 21:30, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- The reason why you may not have found him after the 1922 season is that he may have transferred to the University of New Hampshire, from which he seems to have graduated in 1924, as per "Ask Job on Nerve Alone". Boston Globe. Vol. 106, no. 159. 6 December 1924. p. 1. By then he had dropped Chester & was using Freeman, as per "A Little Bragging". The Telegraph. Vol. 73}, no. 190. 13 October 1947. p. 6.
- It is generally a bad idea to rely on Find A Grave for factual information, as per WP:FINDAGRAVE-EL. That said, I have no contemporary sources for the birth date, only authority control sources that come much later. I will look for earlier sources. Peaceray (talk) 22:56, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- I just found his draft card on ancestry.com, which lists his birth date as October 13, 1901. So Find A Grave is right on the month & year, but wrong on the day. Peaceray (talk) 23:04, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

The article Findlay Warriors has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No evidence of notability, no reference, single external link only verifies its existence, not even the feeble claims in the article
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 07:37, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:2017 disestablishments in Idaho
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:2017 disestablishments in Idaho indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 22:54, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi, with regards to this, the article is about the team and both names they used. The history section says "In 2017, the team changed its name to the Idaho IceCats...After the 2017–18 season, Olver stepped down again, leading to the IceCats ceasing operations". Look at the Season-by-season records section, it again lists the team under both names they used. AusLondonder (talk) 14:16, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @AusLondonder: Yes, which I why i put the 2017-2018 categories on the redirect page for the IceCats. Technically, the 'Jr. Steelheads' were disestablished in 2017, though the franchise did continue. The admins don't like pages for teams that only last a season or two if they can be merged with larger pages, otherwise I would have made one. PensRule11385 (talk) 14:22, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Always cite your sources, and do not remove maintenance templates until the problem is solved
[edit]Hello, I'm Flibirigit. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Manitoba Bisons men's ice hockey, but you didn't provide a reliable source. F.X. O’Dwyer
[edit]Hi! I’ve been researching this man - Frank Xavier O’Dwyer - for the last year or so and you seem to be the only person who might have any information there. He played for columbia university (hockey and lacrosse) in the 1899-1900 season (+1900-1901 if you count it even with the athletic disqualification) and he died in June of 1901 (hit by train — I believe you updated that on the list of players who died during their career two days before I went in to update it after finding the cause haha). Please LMK if you can help!
Do you plan on watching the penguins game tonight? Playing against my team (stars)! N0alv (talk) 22:53, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- @N0alv: The only references I found for his death were a memorial page in the Columbia yearbook located here: Yearbooks. There are scattered mentions of him in the school's newspaper leading up to his death but I wasn't able to find his obituary.
- Thank you! I had found a bunch of mentions in the school news, as you said -- there is a death notice of sorts in this edition that has a bit more info! And I cant find it right now but the Friday June 7 1901 edition of the New York times also has one with more details. I thought I had looked at the yearbooks, but I must had missed that page. its in the 1903 edition?
- Also -- you have likely come across this on your own, but a few members of the Columbia team played for the American Amateur Hockey League.
- Thanks again! N0alv (talk) 01:21, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @N0alv: back then, it was typical for the junior class to produce the yearbook so the 1903 edition was actually published in the spring of 1902, which is where I believe you'll find the memorial. I did see that several former Lions did go on to play on amateur clubs after graduating, such as the St. Nicholas Hockey Club, but finding verifiable rosters for early-20th century teams is difficult. PensRule11385 (talk) 03:15, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yep. That makes sense -- went through and found a couple mentions in the yearbook. Interestingly, he was listed as an active member of the lacrosse team. Likely either an error or a respect thing of some sort, but interesting nonetheless. There are a couple photos of team rosters (on the respective Wikipedia pages and various corners of the internet) that have names listed.
- Anyway, thanks for your help! Sorry to bother you (and mentioning that game...major respect for you guys though, out of conference I like the pens well enough)
- Please let me know if you come across anything else! N0alv (talk) 13:15, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Old yearbook photos of hockey players
[edit]Hi PensRule11385. There's a good chance that most of the photos of hockey players that you recently uploaded (File:Bernie Burke.jpg, File:Amo Bessone.png, File:Jack Mulhern.png, etc.) might not need to be treated as non-free content because most yearbook publishers prior to January 1, 1963, typically didn't formally renew the copyrights on their yearbooks as required under US copyright law at the time; so, often yearbook photos from that period are OK to upload to Wikimedia Commons under a {{PD-US-not renewed}}
license. This is something you might want to ask about at c:COM:VPC. The images are, in principle, OK licensed as non-free content, but that places lots of restrictions on how they may be used; for example, the non-free use of the Amo Bessone image is OK in Amo Bessone (as long as free equivalent image isn't uploaded to replace it), but it can't really be used in individual team or season articles like 1942–43 Illinois Fighting Illini men's ice hockey season. If you're able to establish that the photo is public domain, its use would no longer be subject to Wikipedia's non-free content use policy and it would thus not only be easier to use on English Wikipedia but also easier to by other Wikimedia Foundation projects and even by other third-parties outside of anything having to do with the Wikimedia Foundation. Someone on Commons might be able to check copyright renewal records to determine whether the yearbooks had their copyrights renewed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:58, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Setting thumbnail photos to a fixed pixel width
[edit]Just for general reference, it's not really a good idea to set thumbnail images to a fixed pixel width for the reasons given in WP:THUMBSIZE because doing so forces everyone to sort of see the image the same way regardless of whatever device their using or how they've set their user preferences. It's better to resize thumbnail images using scaling factors as explained in MOS:UPRIGHT because this allows viewable image size to be adjusted accordingly depending on the reader's device or how they've otherwise set things up. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:03, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Non-free use of File:BC hockey 1949.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:BC hockey 1949.jpg. However, there is a concern that the use of the image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Details of this problem, and which specific criteria that the image may not meet, can be obtained by going to the image description page. If you feel that this image does meet those criteria, please place a note on the image description or talk page explaining why. Do not remove the {{di-fails NFCC}} tag itself.
An administrator will review this file within a few days, and having considered the opinions placed on the image page, may delete it in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion or remove the tag entirely. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 06:57, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
