A-Channel

[edit]

i was wondering at 12:00 am on August 10th 2008 may i move the A-Channel Article to it new home on the A (television Newtwork)

please get back to me

(Dongwong (talk) 08:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

You cut&pasted the content of this article. This is not allowed, because the GFDL requires the attribution of the original authors. The second problem was that you forgot the second bracket at the new article's title. --Oxymoron83 08:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yes i know that i was wonderin when A-Channel beocmes A on August 10th if i can use the move tab button you suggested to move it to the new page using the A (Television Network)

please write back

(Dongwong (talk) 08:24, 1 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Yes, if they change their name you can use the move button to change the title of the page. --Oxymoron83 08:31, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Official Reaper Fan Community

[edit]

Hello, my name is Amber and I have posted an external link to an official fan community in regards to the television show, Reaper.

It has been removed twice from the external links section of the Reaper wiki. I have recieved two messages about this.

Reaper ADDX, (the link I have posted) is the only active community on the internet for the CW series Reaper. My actions of posting this link was not to plug and/or advertise this website, but to give an open door to fans of the show Reaper, who are in need of crucial information, news and updates on the newly aired television series.

I am the owner/creator of this website, and would like granted permission for this to be an additional link on Reaper's wiki page.

It is a great opportunity for fans all around the world to gather in discussion of new or old episodes, their favorite actors/actresses on the show, and plot summaries.

Please take consideration on this, so that people will have the option to become one of our newly blooming community.

Thank you.

Regards,

Amber —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.177.204.43 (talkcontribs) 21:16, 6 Aug 2008

The page was recently moved the other way round, so you should propose the move at the article's talk page. If there's an agreement to move the page back, it can be requested at RM instead of cut&paste moving. --Oxymoron83 22:55, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect, I do have an excuse for the nonsense page (do I really need one) I was just eating my lunch when my 9-year old brother gets on and makes it. He saved it without me knowing. Sorry about that... --Vhoscythechatter-sign 16:22, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another IP hopping troll

[edit]

From yesterday here they haven't been blocked yet and although they haven't started again, i think its right to let them sit on a block for a duration thats your choice. Thanks Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 05:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this user is using dynamic IP addresses and changed it several times since then. This means that he's no longer using the above IP and a block now would not affect the vandal anymore. --Oxymoron83 12:50, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Info

[edit]

Hi Oxymoron, thank you for the info, however I have managed to create an account. It turned out that one of the IP's were not blocked. It seems to rotate on each log in. I see that there are some unscrupulous people using this IP and I do not wish to be associated with them. So I will not post on that talk page again. Also I wasn't sure whether to post this here or on that IP's discussion page so I put it in both. lol
Thanks again, --Wezgil (talk) 17:33, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see that. Since you have an account now, you shouldn't be affected by blocks of these proxy servers. You said you've never edited Wikipedia before, so I put some links at your talk page, maybe you'll find them useful. If you have any questions, please let me know. --Oxymoron83 20:12, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

11:36, 31 January 2008 Oxymoron83 (Talk | contribs) deleted "Brothers Cazimero" ‎ (Speedy deleted per (CSD G7), only editor requested deletion.)

Hi. The Brothers Cazimero are a highly notable Hawaiian band. Can you please restore this article in my user space so I can look at it? Regardless of the user request, it should not have been deleted unless it was a copyvio. Thank you. Viriditas (talk) 11:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Viriditas, you created the article that contained only a {{WPHawaii}} tag and requested it's deletion one minute later. There's no content that can be restored, sorry. --Oxymoron83 12:58, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Constant Vandalism

[edit]

A couple of days ago you reverted some vandalism on my User page, and it keeps coming back, despite the fact I put the pp-vandalism template on the page. It started out by them (obviously someone who knows/hates me) putting "n00b" in my list of things I am/know how to do, and now it has been "relocated" to a comment at the beginning of the page, partially my fault for acknowledging the vandal in the first place. Why is is this still happening, albeit in the comment section, even after I placed yfull protection on the page?

Thanks, Anthony cargile (talk) 14:54, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Only admins can protect pages, the addition of a template doesn't protect it. You can request page protection or unprotection at WP:RPP. I've protected your userpage for a month. Please remove the personal attack from your userpage. While I can understand you feeling annoyed, personal attacks are never appropriate, please stay civil. --Oxymoron83 15:54, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you! I've removed the attacks from the comments, as the attacker shouldn't be able to mess with it anymore. Thanks a million! Anthony cargile (talk) 16:30, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for protecting it - I'm exhauted - I just came from a short break and had to see this mess all around. This user:ComingPresident has created quite a few edit wars since joining Wikipedia two weeks ago. Now I wanted to ask you - this user removed one entire sourced paragraph, could it be restored? I'll now try to talk to him. ShahidTalk2me 19:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please engage in discussion first. If the paragraph you're referring to is well sourced, it shouldn't be hard to gain consensus for an inclusion. --Oxymoron83 19:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not reliably sourced anyway, the situation was more of a conflict than it needed to be however, discussion is exactly what I had suggested. Other articles like as Shadrukh Khan seem to attact unwanted edits and edit wars too as here. Perhaps you could put this article on your watchlist although you problably have about 15,000 articles on there at the moment. The guy is basically like a Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt of Indian cinema but due to the huge population of India probably has more fans worldwide in Asia. Again

[edit]

Sorry to bother you again, but some warrant on wikipedia deleted my user page, citing advertising. You had a look at my page, and yet you didn't delete it, so why did this guy?

Also, being new here, I don't know about wikipedia's deletion policy, but I was never forewarned about this AT ALL, so I had no way to correct it before it was deleted. And what really gets me is the fact he did it after I had the protection on the page you gave me, which by the way the vandal posted a very stalkerish comment (refer to it in the history) on my talk page, so I am dealing with something quite big here, and now the person is open to freely place slander on my user page one again, possibly even threats.

I don't want this, I don't need this, and I have no idea why any of this is happening to me. Is there anyway to just keep my user page permanently blank, or just placing one link to the "about me" page on my website without appearing as spam, and just leaving it alone, without any vandalism or unwarranted deletions? I know I'm taking this a little seriously, but, come on, I just don't want to be stalked like this nor having to worry about it, especially since I had a relative killed by a stalker in the 90's before cyber-stalking even existed, so I'm a little worried about this sort of thing.

Anthony cargile (talk) 19:51, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Anthony, I agree that he should have contacted you, especially since you didn't create the account for the sole purpose of advertising yourself, aren't unwilling to change the content of your userpage and he removed the protection from the page. I hope the issue is resolved to everyone's satisfaction now.
About the userpage vandal, best you revert and ignore them, they will go away automatically if you pay no attention. You might also leave your current account alone and create a new non-real name account (without mentioning your real name on your new userpage of course), but that's up to your decision. --Oxymoron83 03:26, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC suggestion on German fair.

[edit]

Hi, Oxymoron83! Since you are German, and since you're one of the most trusted and respectable administrators in all of the Wikipedia, (if I might say so myself!) I figured you were the best person to ask. User:92.72.208.212 suggested an article on Cranger Kirmes, a German fair, in WP:AFC, and I wanted to know if the subject is notable enough for inclusion in an encyclopedia. I've copied the suggestion onto one of my sandboxes, here; could you please look it over for me? Thanks!!! Mess around with the guy in shades all you like - don't mess around with the girl in gloves! (talk) 23:19, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's notable due to long tradition (has origin in 15th century) and the size. A few reliable sources from national journals and many more from regional newspapers can be found, although they are only in German, what is not preferential, but acceptable. The English GHits I found only point to youtube & similar pages. In case you didn't notice, there's already a de Wikipedia article and Commons category for some pictures. I don't have time now, but can help you with this article later today. Regards --Oxymoron83 03:36, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Feet Questions

[edit]

Regarding human feet and toes, information about feet has to be credible even though it's highly disputed. Foot arches, feet and toes are in a major debate under many podiatrists and those that do feet and are experts. The trouble really, however, actually is getting the edits without vandalizing the articles and getting proper sources.

Foot arches are under serious controversy-the debates in foot arches are a major issue; there are debates regarding high arches, medium arches, low arches and flat arches.

I observed Toe as being constantly hit with vandalism, please tell me about that. And Happy Labor Day of 2008. Atkinson 12:05, 29 August 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Glenview bells (talkcontribs)

my error

[edit]

My sincere apologies for the problem caused by my use of WikiCleaner. I was using it to pinpoint pages in need of corrective action and was indeed viewing and fixing each individually. I wasnt aware of glitches or problems with the 'tool' and had no idea that it was automatically making so many inaccurate changes, entirely independent of myself. The realization of this dilemma is frustrating because I honestly contributed a significant number of accurate, productive edits. Thanks--1oddbins1 (talk) 22:17, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So I was at a loss what to do and simply exchanged information. It will not raise much concenr, as old encyclicals are not excactly high in traffic. Thank's--Ambrosius007 (talk) 12:09, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a question of traffic, the question is if there's consensus to change the title, esp. as the other Humani generis pages are at non-capitalized page titles. You can explain your reasons for the title changes at WP:RM or a related Wikiproject page to gain consensus, and an admin will move the page afterwards without the loss of the page history. --Oxymoron83 12:23, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the speedy reverts and protection [3] on my talk page. [edit]

There is a problem and I saw you edit this page before so asking for some advice or to bring toyour attention. One page has been made about a person when a page about the person already exists!!!! http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Houda_Nounou & http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Houda_Nonoo I was going to do some additions but don't know what to do now with this one as where to edit? I don't know if you can help with this, or maybe you know someone who can do so. Thank you v. much for any help that is possible here.

10x10x10 (talk) 14:18, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for spotting that. You can merge the contents of Houda Nounou to Houda Nonoo and state in the edit summary that User:Aridd is the author of that content (and make your own additions in a separate edit), or leave Aridd a note on the talk page, asking if he wants to merge himself. Then you redirect Houda Nounou to the other page by replacing the content with #REDIRECT [[Houda Nonoo]]. --Oxymoron83 14:28, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your implementation of an eight hour school block strikes me as being both even-handed and fair. Kudos to you, sir! --Kralizec! (talk) 14:58, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. The intention was to get the current user of that IP blocked while keeping collateral damage for others low, as there are only few edits every some months. While most school IPs are used mainly for vandalism, I did not abandon hope that there are good pupils. --Oxymoron83 15:16, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, unfortunately :( The blocking policy could also be a bit improved in this respect, but I guess it is too difficult for most admins to differentiate between dynamic, static, shared and non-shared IPs. --Oxymoron83 21:50, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barditch (Commenting on talk left on my page)

[edit]

Barditch is reasonable jargon that goes back at least a century. If you don't like it, go tell your relatives. The dictionary is made up of such words that get added as they become common.. I've heard that liberals love to modify history so as to brainwash the future. For those who do this, I'd say shame on you, how do you know what the future will respect? BTW, I'm voting for Nader because the other two candidates have zero representative integrity, otherwise I'm voting Obama.. I'm Christian, but I see no reason in voting for anyone who is against abortion, people can change their mind, just go to a non-abortion pregnancy clinic run by women who didn't get abortions. If you are an individual, you should let your uniqueness be known, otherwise the lack of a unique identity will enforce stereotypes among those who love to categorize for the sake of justifying ones disposition. Is Wikipedia a source of information or is it yet another site on the web pushing individual agendas (in secret, under the radar, hoping to brainwash others)? --Rofthorax (talk) 21:55, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oxy. I have just become aware that User:Joe routt has done a piece by piece cut and paste from Deep Purple in Rock to In Rock - and then User:Koavf moved In Rock to In Rock (Deep Purple album) and In Rock became a disamb page. I noticed that you got involved in editing because it appeared that an IP was attempting a crude cut and paste edit. However, In Rock (Deep Purple album) should be Deep Purple in Rock - as that is the name of the album.[8] [9]. What needs to happens is restoring Deep Purple in Rock to this edit, editing In Rock to direct to the correct Deep Purple article name, and returning In Rock (Deep Purple album) to this edit, all of which I can do. I'm letting you know, and I'll be letting User:Joe routt and User:Koavf know as well. I'd be happy for you to cast an eye over what I am doing to check that everything is OK, and that I am not making any mistakes. Regards SilkTork *YES! 22:30, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've merged the edits that were made to the cut&paste copy with the original page history. When you merged the edits that were previously at In Rock (Deep Purple album) to Deep Purple in Rock (diff), you reinserted the notes at the track listing that were removed several times before. Maybe this was accidentally, could you please check this? --Oxymoron83 13:47, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you are a German Male Nurse, why the male?

[edit]

What allows for a German Male Nurse to edit articles from a United States Organization? Nothing. My judgment was without jurisdiction. I can't wait for subject matter jurisdiction laws encacted within the U.S. in a couple of years. The U.S. Attorneys like myself will dominate the regulations of the internet, your good faith attempt to counter my good faith editing based upon my own circumstances versus your arbitrary "regulations" will be destroyed. Granted, we will only be able to control access from U.S. portals; but where would the world be without U.S. portals? A male nurse with no experience, objective or subjective, does not have the right to edit or discount edits from a viable viewpoint. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.245.87.5 (talkcontribs) 06:41, 8 Oct 2008

RFC Bates method article

[edit]

I am contacting you quite randomly. For the following reason. The reason is the Bates method article, which in my opinion is edited by parties who are far from objective. Most logical associated party ophthalmology or a group focussed on just being skeptic. I am hoping for your comment on some current essential and interesting issues. Issues in which presenting objective strong arguments are completely neglected and ignored. If you have time and are willing to share you opinion and arguments, please do. My goal is to come to some kind of decision tool. By clearly stating if an argument is valid or not by the objective editor. My request is also to give a weight-factor for example between 1 and 10. For exmple1 for a valid argument but not very important and 10 for a very important argument. And zero for a fake-argument. Please feel free to comment and look at the current three RFC. Nr 1, Nr 2 and Nr 3 on the talkpage of the Bates method article. Seeyou (talk) 20:51, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I received your message. I do believe I provided a rationale for the redirect. The article I linked to is a high profile media release, whereas the current content of 'U2' appears to be a vanity page. Archiving/removing stale warnings

[edit]

Hi... when you remove stale warnings, as you recently did at User talk:216.11.55.3, please be sure to leave recent ones. Some of the ones you archived had been left in the last day or less. Thanks! ++Lar: t/c 14:36, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This was intended. In case I archive the warnings, I do this by years, otherwise it's imho too messy. When they will edit again - even in the unlikely case they're unblocked after some months - they will need a fresh set of warnings anyway, it's a highly shared IP. I can see no reason why it's useful to have these warnings there. Regards --Oxymoron83 14:56, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The last few warnings are good context in case the IP asks for an unblock, or if a CU such as myself is investigating, or whatever. (the reason I noticed this IP was that it was mentioned in an email related to an arbcom case, and when I went there, there was nothing... forcing fellow admins to look in the history when it's not needful. wastes their time) Hope that helps clarify matters. ++Lar: t/c 18:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's why I provide the permalink to the version before archiving, so that you do not have to search in the history (nevertheless you should take a look, since IP users frequently modify or remove messages left). --Oxymoron83 14:54, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi -- if you feel a need to revert edits that were made in a good-faith effort to improve an article, please always use a meaningful edit summary. In this case you are right on the substance, but anybody who reverts non-vandal edits without any explanation whatsoever is morally wrong. Regards, Looie496 (talk) 18:39, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Looie496, I find it more morally wrong to add emoticons or nonsense to articles. But you're right, it's really worth the time to type in a meaningful edit summary for such edits, this will help them very much. Would "Thank you for your effort to improve the article by replacing content with 'lksaf;lajsdlkfjsaldfjl;kasjdf;lkjasdfjaksfjdlkajsdf'. This is very much appreciated, but unfortunately does not comply with our policy about adding random characters." meet your moral requirements? --Oxymoron83 08:58, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I specifically said "good-faith edits". Vandalism is different -- when somebody is simply trying to damage an article, the default edit comment is fine. Regards, Looie496 (talk) 17:19, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Footnote: I wasn't aware that you're an admin when I made the first comment, by the way. Had I known that, I would still say the same thing (even more so in fact), but would have omitted the last sentence. Looie496 (talk) 17:22, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

German text

[edit]

Can you look at this new picture from the Deutsches Bundesarchiv and provide an translation for the English text? I ran it through Babelfish to get a rough understanding, but it's absolutely gibberish: the first sentence becomes "On invitation of the American president and Mrs. Ford were Federal President Walter cross-eyed and Mrs. Dr. Mildred cross-eyed about 15. to 20 June 1975 to a state visit in the United States of America." Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 23:17, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At the invitation of the American President and Mrs. Ford, the President of Germany Walter Scheel and Mrs. Dr. Mildred Scheel stayed to the United States of America at a state visit from June 15 to 20, 1975. They were accompanied by the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Hans-Dietrich Genscher. The visit program included stays in Williamsburg (Virginia), Washington D.C., Chicago and New York. During the visit, President Walter Scheel announced the contributions of the Federal Government to the United States Bicentennial: the setup of the "John J. McCloy Fund for German-American Exchange", the creation of a new chair at the New School of Social Research, New York, the setup of a visiting professorship at the Georgetown University, Washington DC, and the installation of a large projector at the new Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. German President Walter Scheel speaks in front of both houses of the Congress at the Capitol.
If anything is formulated ambiguously, please let me know and I'll investigate again. Regards --Oxymoron83 07:30, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In the last sentence "in front of" maybe should be replaced with "to". He probably didn't speak in front of the building, but to the members inside the building. While the German original text can mean both, the latter is more likely. --Oxymoron83 07:51, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SS on UAA

[edit]

I only added users that were not blocked. At least, not as far as I can see. There were no block messages on their pages or such. I skipped the nazis that were already clearly blocked.    SIS  23:38, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just copyed a little bit i wanted to make call of duty world at war final fronts (ps2) i was going to change a little bit until you deleted it please let finish it but you hate it you could delete it please —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ohmygod766 (talkcontribs) 00:31, 19 Dec 2008

Hello, you are not allowed to copy&paste content without mentioning the original authors, because this is in violation of the GFDL. There is already a section at the main article, your changes should be made there instead. Since your account is not autoconfirmed yet, you can either propose the changes at the talk page, or you will be able to edit the article yourself in 2 days. It would be unprofitable to have two parallel articles about the same topic. --Oxymoron83 00:41, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I need your help

[edit]

Hey there friend, I have become recently interested in helping Wikipedia agianst vandals.

I was hoping you could help me..

I can seem to get Twinkle or any other programs working.. Do you have any programs you use?

I dont not have Rollback permission, but apperantly Twinkle help..

Ive placed all I need in my monobook, and still nothing happens?

Should a window appear?

Please help me thanks

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Frankie0607

--Frankie0607 (talk)

Hello Frankie, that Twinkle isn't working can have various reasons. Are you using Mozilla Firefox and did you bypass your cache (Ctrl-Shift-R)? I use WP:VF additionally. --Oxymoron83 13:52, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks dude, Sadly the download links for VP arnt working, so if you can send me install files?

Yeah im using Mozilla Firefox, and I pressed (Ctrl-Shift-R), But nothing appear even after that.. WHat should be happening? --Frankie0607 (talk)

The download from the toolserver should work. When TW works, you should see some additional buttons at the top of each page next to the 'history' button and additional rollback links when viewing a diff (picture). Did you enable Javascript in your browser? What happens if you enable TW in Special:Preferences -> Gadgets? --Oxymoron83 14:42, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scientific Theories

[edit]

You might want to delete Category:Scientific Theories, too. I was trying to categorize spontaneous generation, but I didn't know what category we use for old theories which have been disproved. --Uncle Ed (talk) 14:56, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done in the second after your message. Maybe you find a suitable subcategory in Category:Theories. --Oxymoron83 15:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are so swift! Thanks, I'll rummage around there. :-) --Uncle Ed (talk) 15:09, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Range block

[edit]

How much of a problem would it cause to extend this to a week? I know nothing about range blocks so I have no idea if one that long would cause other problems. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 15:28, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was AFK for some minutes, I'm looking into this now. This block was based on 4 IPs, maybe the blocked range is too small (but it worked) - do you have some more IPs? --Oxymoron83 16:01, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, away for a while. There are more listed at User:Sidonuke/RedPenOfDoom but that's not complete, as I forgot about it until earlier. Most of the edits have been oversighted now so they are hard to find. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 17:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I looked a bit around in the meantime and think I found all necessary information. You can see the edits of 68.79.64.0/18 from the past 6 months here, there are occasionally good edits. Given the deleted and seemingly oversighted edits and those by logged-in socks that can be allocated to this range I found (which all don't appear at my subpage), I'm going to extended the block until Christmas. I'm also blocking 68.248.73.0/24 and 68.248.74.0/24 - all non-deleted IP edits from the past 6 months except those by 68.248.74.66 can be attributed to this vandal. I found 2 related IPs in the 68.249.0.0/16 area, but there are way more constructive edits from this range. -Oxymoron83 18:05, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That deleted page makes intersting reading. It appears that there are multiple vandals on the same range. I see Gwarp/Hagger stuff plus the one calling himself the IP vandal, puts in stuff about epic fail and balls. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 19:57, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is the same person, e. g. 68.79.99.45 hagger + TheRedPenOfDoom-harassment and 68.79.90.214 epic fail/IP vandal + TheRedPenOfDoom-harassment; or see the edits made during 2008-07-25 or 2008-10-25 where he uses multiple IPs within few minutes vandalizing with epic fail and hagger. Always doing the same vandalism probably became boring over time. --Oxymoron83 20:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I never realised that they were the same. Partly because the only times I had dealt with them was over the epic fail, TheRedPenOfDoom and adding the phone number stuff. I'd noticed a few hagger stuff but just assumed that it was a copycat vandal. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 21:53, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that they have recruited some friends. Listed at User:Sidonuke/RedPenOfDoom. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 03:16, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably message board vandalism and/or some sort of anonymizer (193.95.151.196 Ireland, 202.79.209.80 Singapore, 212.62.97.23 Saudi Arabia). Unfortunately only blocking of the individual IPs and page protection helps in such cases. The good news is that I think I've found all IPs the vandal can get assigned from their home provider and listed at Sidonuke's subpage. I've blocked 68.79.164.0/22 as that has been abused yesterday and earlier (there are 5 good edits in December, next non-vandalsim IP edit was in early October) and 68.249.44.0/22 (~ 1 constructive IP user/month). --Oxymoron83 12:59, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I tried a few things to see if I could find a message board but no luck. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 21:35, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for protective the page. --JonBroxton (talk) 19:20, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Let's hope this helps and they loose interest. I also put the titles they created on my watchlist. --Oxymoron83 19:31, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CalPOP (Commenting on talk left on my page)

[edit]

Please explain why you deleted CalPOP article. It is being reviewed for inclusion. It had been improperly deleted the first time after being up a year. The article has several references which it did NOT have a year ago. Please elaborate on why you do not think it should be included. After all this is the largest server company in Los Angeles and there are several other server companies such as RackSpace with similar wiki articles. --Rhoover69 (talk)

The page you recreated had the same content as that deleted per AfD. The concerns raised there were not addressed in your recreation (links to the company's home page aren't reliable), see also WP:CORP. Also Wikipedia can neither be used to advertise your company nor your band. --Oxymoron83 13:14, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CalPOP

[edit]

You deleted the CalPOP article. The deletion discussion was just opened. I believe you may have seen the 2007 deletetion discussion. The 2008 deletion discussion would have shown that the article is fine. I believe it was speedily deleted because people say the old 2007 deletion discussion revealed that the arctile had no references. Subsequently, the arcicle has several references which is why it was up for a year. However I think that someone came through and saw the word DECEMBER and thought that was this december and not last december and accidentally deleted the article. I contacted the editor who deleted it and he basically admitted that it might be an error. CalPOP article had been up for 1 year with all the proper references in it. The deletion discussion that you referenced was not the 2008 deletion discussion but was the 2007 deletion discussion. The 2008 version of the article had been fine all this time and should not have been taken down. I believe the CalPOP article was incorrectly deleted because people saw the 2007 deletion article. Again- it was originally in 2007 taken down for no references but those were in it now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.240.130.251 (talkcontribs) 00:26, 25 Dec 2008

I'm aware that the deletion discussion is from 2007, but, again, none of the concerns raised there were addressed by your recreation. The inc5000 link was taken into account at the deletion discussion, and links to the article's subjects own web page can not be used as a reliable third party source. Reposts of an article deleted per deletion discussion can and will be deleted. Besides that, neither the editor you contacted said it was deleted in error nor was there a 2008 deletion discussion. I suggest you again to read the pages I linked to in my above post as it doesn't seem you have done so far (esp. WP:COI, WP:CORP, WP:RS). --Oxymoron83 18:58, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did open a December 2008 Deletion discussion last week and it was never discussed. If the only reference you don't like is the one to the CalPOP website then I'll remove that one and leave the rest. There were no references at all in 2007 - so the Inc500 and Los Angeles Business Journal references were not considered - and all the references were added in 2008. I do not see any advertising unless you believe being listed itself is an advetisement. As to the CalPOP band-- if you go to lala.com you will see it is in the top 500 bands of all time. http://www.lala.com/#artist/CalPOP

banning

[edit]

The ip address that you are talking about banning in response to the buckypaper vandilism is a proxy connected to roughly 18000 users if you ban this ip address you are preventing an entire us army installation access i doubt that will be possible. good luck —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.215.21.2 (talkcontribs) 16:07, 24 Dec 2008

Not very much contributions, temporary blocks are possible without any problems. --Oxymoron83 16:10, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bobo

[edit]

From User:Drewgillespie:

Hello, I set up the wiki page for Bobo and would appreciate for it to be kept up. The article was most likely deleted by NawlinWiki. I tried going to his talk page and he is "semiprotected." How am I ever supposed to discuss this matter with him if he is not open to messages? PLEASE HELP! I appreciate your time spent on these matters. I worked a long time on that overview/summary and if you need credible sources I will give them to you in pdf:

http://www.foxyproduction.com/static/dyn-files/1/1939.pdf http://www.foxyproduction.com/static/dyn-files/1/1940.pdf http://www.foxyproduction.com/static/dyn-files/1/1926.pdf http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/articles/17365/a-e--editors-picks

The article was deleted by NawlinWiki, because it didn't indicate why this band/company is notable, which should be based on reliable sources, see also WP:BAND and WP:CORP. I deleted it, because more than 2 hours after creation the article still consisted only of a hangon tag. I've left NawlinWiki a note, so he may contact you on your talk page. --Oxymoron83 19:36, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dealing with sock puppets

[edit]

Hi, I just saw you block User:Witguiota for sockpuppet abuse. I was just trying to figure out what the quickest way for a non-admin to deal with this (yet another sock of a known abuser). Listing on WP:SSP seems awfully long-winded; is there a quicker way to get an admin involved? Any advice appreciated.

Regards, Oli Filth(talk|contribs) 18:27, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you can report socks of daily active (banned) users like this one to WP:AIV (write "sock of User:Serafin" or something like this). SSP is not the right place when the socks are obvious and need immediate attention (because they will continue to vandalize until they're blocked). --Oxymoron83 18:46, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
