Criminal use

[edit]

Please propose criminal use additions to the various firearms articles before adding. Criminal use is something that should be added only after the material has shown to have WEIGHT in context of the article in question. Springee (talk) 15:03, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Springee: There is no requirement to discuss before making a WP:BOLD edit. If you have an issue with this user's edits, I would suggest that you raise your specific objections on the article talk page. –dlthewave 15:42, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Dlthewave:, because the editor changed so many pages at once it would be impractical to post the same discussion 2 dozen times hence the comment here. I think the project:firearms page would be a good place to have a central discussion regarding those many articles since the issue is going to be the same basically every time. Springee (talk) 15:47, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not the same every time, though. We decide on a case-by-case basis. It would be appropriate to list the discussions at WP:Firearms as well as any other related projects. –dlthewave 16:26, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't add a list of crimes to firearms pages without discussion first. As a general rule lists of indiscriminate crimes that happen to use a firearm don't go onto the pages of various firearms. The cases where crimes are on a firearm page are typically included because the crime and the firearm are notably liked. Springee (talk) 15:49, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, it's been quite a while since we last talked. As i'm sure you've noticed, my skills at editing here have vastly improved since then. However, i still see issues with this. Most of the talk pages on these firearms are relatively inactive. So writing a message there seems pretty pointless, as i'm sure i won't receive a response in a timely manner. As to them being (i'm sure you meant to say "linked", as i'm sure these crimes aren't "liked") linked, i still really don't see how the crimes affected the guns. And even more so as to why it even matters. Ruger Standard has a list like i made and it doesn't say anything about subsequent impacts on the gun (it doesn't even have sources, like i tried to add to my lists). Same could be said SIG MCX. It has a source but not one of relevance or any mention of the shooting impacting the gun. Walther P22 is a bit different but still has the same issue. I fail to see how that's okay but when i add a list with sources it's a problem. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 19:15, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest bringing it up at project firearms and list the articles involved. We have had related discussions on a number of pages. The typical result has been there needs to be significant coverage about the firearm and it's use in crimes before we add the content to the pages. Things like lists of crimes committed using a particular model of gun are typically removed as UNDUE. For instance, a shooting of say 10 people is almost certainly going to be NOTABLE thus justifying an article on the shooting. The type of gun used is likely to be mentioned by articles about the shooting so mentioning the type of gun is likely DUE in the article about the shooting. However, the reverse isn't true. By the same token it might be significant for a band to have opened for the Rolling Stones in 1975. Thus the article about that band would mention they opened for the Stones in '75. However, the converse may not be true. Articles about the Rolling Stones may not consider it significant that some minor band opened for them in 1975. We have something similar with firearms. An article about a shooting might say the perp used a Glock 73 (I don't think such a model exists) but do articles about Glock or the Glock 73 mention the crime? Generally no. There are some cases where the crime is clearly linked to the gun to the point that the Carcano 1891 rifle is clearly associated with the Kennedy assassination. Other times the firearm is no more associated with the crime than the getaway car is associated with a bank robbery. If you bring things up at project firearms and then put a notice on the associated article talk page I think you can get more feedback on the issue. Springee (talk) 19:48, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Criminal use is decided on a case-by-case basis, and there's no need to discuss before boldly adding. These discussions should take place at article talk with notices at relevant projects (Firearms being just one) and not the other way around. –dlthewave 02:27, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you're saying to discuss criminal use on the talk pages of the articles themselves, that's something i already addressed. Most gun talk pages are inactive (10/22 has unanswered topics back from 2015). It just seemed like i would get a better response from the project talk. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 14:08, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's normally okay to copy from compatibly licensed material, but you have to provide attribution. Please see WP:FREECOPYING for more information on how to do that. However, I removed your addition to the above article, as the content is unsourced, other than to a wiki, which is not a reliable source. Please post on my talk page if you have any questions. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:32, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm FlightTime. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Gianni Versace, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:07, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That information came from the article of Cunanan himself. There wasn't even a citation at that part to begin with anyway. Cunanan was a serial killer, not spree. I just thought i should fix that. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 23:14, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not cite itself. You're free to discuss it on the article talk page. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:17, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Point being Cunanan was a serial killer, not spree. As his article clearly states. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 23:33, 23 March 2019 (UTC) C[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Gianni Versace; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:34, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really consider this a war, just a misunderstanding. All i really did was just fix something that was incorrect. You're kind of taking this off-topic by telling me things about edit-warring that i already know. Just saying. And why take this to the article's page when we can just discuss it here? Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Edward, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Edward Edwards (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Disambiguation pages

[edit]

Please note that disambiguation pages like Derek Morgan are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory
  • Do not add articles to acronym or initials disambiguation pages unless the person or entity is widely known by that name (in which case it should be stated in the linked article).

Thank you. Leschnei (talk) 18:30, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for any damage done. It's just that i've seen many others done like this so i thought it was ok. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 22:14, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No worries and you're right, many disambiguation pages have entries with no links (unfortunately). Think of a disambiguation page as the index of a book. If the book doesn't mention an item, then that item won't be listed in the index. Leschnei (talk) 13:40, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Flags

[edit]

Hi there and thanks for your edits. Just a heads-up that I had to remove a bunch of edits you made three weeks ago to gun articles adding flags to their infoboxes. Wikipedia only uses flags where they are helpful to our readers; flags like the ones you added are purely decorative and so we can't use them. The relevant guideline is at MOS:FLAG. Best wishes, --The Huhsz (talk) 19:14, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my apologies. It's just that i could have sworn i saw several gun pages with flags on them so i figured it was ok. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 20:18, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fritz Haarmann

[edit]

Hi. I have seen you around Wiki from time to time. Have you got a reliable source for the edit you made to the Fritz Haarmann article? There were several Weimar multiple murderers. I believe the word denke means think in German. There were claims as to who was the worst murderer or most 'celebrated', Grossman, Haarmann etc. With Karl Denke being among them. There were claims like who is the worst killer. Haarmann, ich denke .--Kieronoldham (talk) 23:59, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah i've been here for a while and i feel i have a decent amount of experience and knowledge of how to edit here. Well that information originally came from the Angerstein article, so no i don't have a source. The page didn't have one either. I don't think Grossmann's trial received anywhere near as much attention as these three. And Denke never even had a trial (he killed himself before it could happen). I'm not trying to 'celebrate' any of them. Hope this clears this up. I might try searching for a source later. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 19:31, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I know you're not trying to celebrate them; I just mean the publicity, psychological studies et al surrounding them at the time. Regards,--Kieronoldham (talk) 20:09, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry i couldn't find one. That information came purely unsoucred fom Angerstein's article. OmniFrieza994 (talk) 16:08, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Waxworker. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Fred Tatasciore, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. It appears that you may have copied or moved text in this edit from other various WP articles into Orlando Regional Medical Center, and you also didn't copy over some of the full citations that were needed, as seen here. I added the full citations and left an edit summary indicating where I copied them from as required. Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). If you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Isaidnoway (talk) 08:17, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
