Removal image requests
[edit]This section is pinned and will not be automatically archived. |
Hi, I noticed you removed numerous image requests. I noticed this for a couple of pages on my watchlist and the requests there seem reasonable to me. Please explain your reason of removals. --Altenmann >talk 18:52, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Altenmann: Thanks for allowing me to explain myself. Per Template:Image requested, the image requested template is "
not a general-purpose "no image present" indicator ... Editors placing this template on a talk page should provide information about what images or photographs are wanted
". Apparently in 2014, a user added these requests to around 50,000 talk pages, to the talk pages of (apparently) every single Iranian village article that lacked an image (see this category as an example). So, while some of these requests can be viewed as valid (we don't always explain our reasons for adding the imagereq template to talk pages), your average user at least doesn't add them to thousands upon thousands of talk pages en masse using the same edit summary, disregarding the usage guidelines in the process. The massive number of image requests dilutes the template's importance (it isn't intended to be added en masse), and also goes against the usage guideline. Also according to those guidelines, Template:Improve images should be added instead as a ""no image present" indicator
". Nythar (💬-🍀) 22:53, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from Domeneco738 on Draft:Tim Cooper, computer scientist (10:29, 5 January 2025)
[edit]Hello. I'd like to keep working on this draft and make it good enough to submit. Which references do I need to improve? Can you help me understand what sources some common sources are that will meet an acceptable standard? --Domeneco738 (talk) 10:29, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Domeneco738, sorry about the late response. It seems that the reviewer who declined your draft noted that it was "
not adequately supported by reliable sources
." I'll go through the sources in order (draft archived for future reference). The first source is a primary source directly from the UK government. This kind of source is unlikely to contribute to the notability of the subject too well. The second source is from "SkedGo", and the page states that "Tim co-founded SkedGo," making the source non-independent. The third source is a duplicate of the first source. The fourth source doesn't mention Cooper, so it doesn't contribute to his notability. The fifth source doesn't mention the name "Tim Cooper." Neither does the sixth source. The seventh source is a duplicate of the fourth source. The eighth source is paywalled so I don't know what it contains (not very good for demonstrating notability to Wikipedia's draft reviewers). The ninth source doesn't mention Cooper. The tenth source is a corporate news article published by Tes, which acquired a company founded by Cooper (making the source non-independent), and it reads like a promo piece. The eleventh source doesn't mention Cooper. The twelfth source mentions "Tim Cooper" once as the husband of the subject of that article. You should work on improving the sourcing before resubmitting the draft for review. Let me know if you need any help during that process. Regards, Nythar (💬-🍀) 10:10, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Hello do l only have to describe m y self on my user page 🤔♥️ --Samppy (talk) 08:02, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Samppy, I recommend that you focus on improving the quality of your edits before you decide to create a page about yourself. Visit the Task Center and find something that interests you, and spend some time doing that to improve your skills. Regards, Nythar (💬-🍀) 09:38, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- thanks for the advice 🤞❤️ Samppy (talk) 12:36, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Hello Mentor,
good to be here, how can I add article, or let Wikipedia have someone name and brief about him added? --Ambsam23 (talk) 10:07, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Ambsam23, to create a draft, visit the Article Wizard to start your draft. As you're adding information to your draft, make sure you're also adding reliable sources that are independent of the subject you're writing about. Regards, Nythar (💬-🍀) 09:29, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Random editor 32165 on Workers' Party (France, 1991–2008) (16:34, 14 January 2025)
[edit]Hello mentor, I have a question that is how to find correct news articles for citations? --Random editor 32165 (talk) 16:34, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Random editor 32165, you can find a list of reliable/unreliable sources at WP:RSP. Sources that aren't included in this list aren't considered officially reliable or unreliable on Wikipedia, so you'll have to evaluate those as you go along. Let me know if you need help analyzing sources. Regards, Nythar (💬-🍀) 09:35, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks mentor. Random editor 32165 (talk) 15:23, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Question from Metalcupcake5 (08:05, 16 January 2025)
[edit]when making multiple small edits, is it preferred to submit each edit individually or all at once? --Metalcupcake5 (talk) 08:05, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Metalcupcake5, spreading out what could be a few trivial changes to an article that likely only take a minute or so to make, into several edits, could flood a page's history and could be seen as gaming the system in an attempt to illegitimately gain higher permissions (which are granted when a user makes a certain minimum number of edits). My advice is if the edits are very minor, try combining them together, but if they're more significant, feel free to save them as multiple edits. Regards, Nythar (💬-🍀) 09:21, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- got it, thanks! Metalcupcake5 (talk) 11:27, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Question from Mumber Glump (18:29, 22 January 2025)
[edit]I recently revised an edit that was incorrect. Looking back would an "undo" have been the better way to do that?
https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Portal:Current_events/2025_January_22&oldid=1271129035 --Mumber Glump (talk) 18:29, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Mumber Glump, I'd say an undo might have been a good idea because the snowfall at the New Orleans airport likely isn't related enough to the death toll of 9 (meaning two separate sentences were probably a good idea). Regards, Nythar (💬-🍀) 23:52, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Talk: Donald Trump lead discussion
[edit]Hi Nythar,
I’d like to encourage you to take a moment to review my argument regarding the "F" proposal. For years, the current structure has been thoughtfully considered and has served readers well. My concern isn’t about preference but about preserving a phrasing that provides clarity and fulfills its purpose effectively. So far, I haven’t seen a strong explanation for why this change is necessary, and I think it’s worth reflecting on whether it truly adds value.
If you haven’t already, I’d also recommend checking out what User:Gluonz has added in the comments about previous discussions under Joe Biden’s page regarding this same topic. I think their input provides valuable context that’s worth considering.
I’d appreciate your thoughts on my argument. I’m confident we all share the goal of serving readers in the best way possible, and I hope my perspective helps inform the discussion. TimeToFixThis (talk) 03:42, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
