Precipitation

I noticed that you have been changing some instances of the colour of precipitation. Snow and rain are both types of precipitation so should be the same colour. Blue is not a good colour for pages that include cold temperatures as blue for rain/snow/precipitation is easily confused with the blue of cold temperatures. So the precipitation days should match as well. I also noticed that you are inconsistent with the colour changes. In some cases you remove only the snow = green line, in other cases you remove only the precip days colour = green (and why are you doing that? It's precipitation and should match the rest) and in some cases, but not all, you remove both. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:02, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

@CambridgeBayWeather Back up your claim that people commonly confuse the color of the cold temperatures with the color of the precipitation days. Literally every city outside of Canada uses blue instead of green as the precip days color as the color green is simply hard to see in the weatherbox. As I am yet to find anyone who agrees with you with your take on the color scheme, I know for sure that many people agree that blue is a better color. Per Template:Weather box literally shows both snow and precip days parameters set to blue, not green. I also see that I'm not the only one making these changes, but you seem to be the only one insisting green for a seemingly unfounded justification. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 19:47, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
I only work on Canadian places and not other countries. Blue was the first colour used and is by no means the default except in the temperature chart. The main argument is not confusing the snow with cold temperatures but that snow and rain are both types of precipitation. If the snow is blue then change the rain and precipitation to blue as well. Your changes, as I said above are inconsistent. You changed some "snow colour =" to blue but others you didn't. Sure the template shows blue but that's just the way it is. By the way the line about "By default it is suggested to use for precipitation and rainfall the color green (associated with healthy vegetation) for distance from snowfall and other parameters. Enter green for |precipitation colours= and |rain colours=" was added by one editor with no input from others. Apart from the fact it isn't good English there is no indication of a default colour for rain and snow beyond that line is for temperature colours to be standard. I never said that it was commonly confused just that it could be. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:36, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
@CambridgeBayWeather Who cares about having all the fields of precipitation set to the same color? As I see that you only work on Canadian weatherboxes, there must be a good reason why every other city on the globe uses blue as the snow AND precip days color right? You don't seem to understand why blue is the better and as a result the majority color. When the precip days parameter is set to green, the color is nearly invisible, therefore it makes it hard to distinguish between the number of precipitation days and is frankly almost useless to have the color set. I repeated this several times but you never seemed to address it. When it is set to blue, the problem is resolved. As for the snow color parameter, having it set to green can also be commonly confused by readers as people associate snow with the color blue, so having it set to an unrelated color like green looks odd and doesn't make sense. All the other parameters are set to its associated color (hot temps - red, cold temps - blue, sunshine - yellow, rain - green (as its associated with lush vegetation), snow - green?? As it does not have any relation with lush vegetation it should probably follow the pattern and just be blue. I know that the color scheme I am trying to use is supported my many other editors as why else would it be featured on the template page (and not green)? Why would it be used on the weatherboxes for every single other city in other countries for so long? I also see many editors trying to fix the snow and precip days colors on various Canadian cities, only for it to be reverted by you for an unconvincing reason. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:54, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
I've been really busy this week with work and other stuff and realised that I really don't care about this anymore. Go with pretty rather than accuracy. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:04, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
@CambridgeBayWeather Consensus reached. That's not exactly what I would call "accuracy", but now I can move on to other stuff. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 06:03, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
This is not a consensus by any means. One person on their talk page is not a consensus. What happened was an IP, 24.68.2.110 who was eventually blocked, changed several pages to remove the green colour from the precipitation and rain lines such as this and this. Do you think the wall of blue is helpful? I wasn't the only one reverting that IP. And I see that another IP got caught up in the whole thing. However, don't suggest or state that a consensus exists when it does not. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 16:06, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
  • There is nothing whatsoever resembling a consensus for your changes. Cambridge Bay has been working on weather on Wikipedia for quite a long time. If he says his way is standard, it is. Right up to the time someone starts an RfC to establish something different. John from Idegon (talk) 16:44, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
Disputes are worked through discussion and reaching an agreement is through consensus, not by the word of one person. Sure, he may have contributed heavily to weather related things in the past, but that does not by any means something he says should or will be "standard". If anything, he is against the standard in this matter as nearly every single weatherbox outside of Canada (which is maybe like 2% of all watherboxes in total?) uses green for rain/precipitation and blue for precip days and snow. 24.68.2.110 persistently engaged in edit-warring by violating the 3 revert rule and made confusing and misleading edit summaries which lead to their ban. Additionally, he/she randomly changed the snow coloring from the standard blue to green on some pages and changed the precipitation color from the standard green to blue on others, so in a way, 24.68.2.110 resembles CambridgeBayWeather as both likes to change the weatherbox parameters to non-standard coloring. Regarding my claim of consensus, yes that was wrong for me to do, but I only thought so because Cambridge basically just gave up and said "I don't care about this anymore, I'm busy with my other work" so I thought that was a signal of some sort of settlement, but of course he still does. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 22:57, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
John from Idegon while I appreciate the sentiment I can't claim to be a consensus of one either. This has come up again at User talk:CambridgeBayWeather#Sockpuppet IPs removing green precipitation. I don't like to change to non-standard colouring. There is no standard. There was some discussion a while back but no conclusion was reached. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:19, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
Standard means "an idea or thing used as a measure, norm, or model in comparative evaluations". I say it's the "standard" in this case as it seems to be the accepted coloring pattern for the good majority of city weatherboxes around the world. Non-standard would be anything else that has not been proven and concluded as better than the current state. It also seems to me that, one - your coloring scheme does not seem to have any sort of consensus or even mutual agreement, and two - you have not addressed the common concerns that myself and other editors have expressed above. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 22:16, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
  • If you take a look, green precipitation days don't seem to work because it is the same colour as green humidity. However, there is only max 31 days in a month, and probably nowhere in the world has over 25 precip days in a month, so it is very hard to see. If the problem is fixed, CambridgeBayWeather you can say that it should be changed, but currently there is no consensus. CrazyBoy826 (talk) 18:05, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Just being real here, I honestly would like to see the coloring of the colder temperatures be something like violet, so it wouldn't blend in with the blue snow color that much. In addition, I would not have any problem with green precip days if it weren't for the fact that it's simply hard to see. Just because it is atm, I just feel that blue is the best choice. If the green precip days coloring get fixed by someone soon, I would not mind it being green. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 08:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
One discussion. See Template talk:Weather box#Mass changes of blue/green for precipitation. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 10:38, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Nkon21. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until 2020-06-12. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Anarchyte (talkwork) 11:18, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

I see you recently accepted a pending change to June 14 that did not include a direct source.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the edit notice on that page, the content guideline and/or the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. All new additions without references are now being either reverted on-sight or in some cases where the patroller is especially motivated, immediately sourced. I've gone ahead and un-accepted this edit and backed it out.

All the pages in the Days of the Year project have had pending changes protection turned on to prevent vandalism and further addition of entries without direct sources. As a pending changes patroller, please do not accept additions to day of year pages where no direct source has been provided on that day of year page. The burden to provide sources for additions to these pages is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you and please keep up your good work! Firstly, I removed your other posts as they are just duplicates of this one. Secondly, the mistake that was made was obviously not on my end. In order for the claim "also known as Tim and Paula" to be included in the lede, it must be supported by various reliable sources that explicitly states that they are indeed widely known by that name (and no, 6k people does not constitute as widely). Frankly speaking, they are not, and the previous sources given were in no way, in any shape or form, reliable. Read the contents of WP:RSE and WP:RS carefully and see which types of sources cannot be used. In return of me being kind, I expect you to follow and abide by Wikipedia policies and any further edits that fail to conform to those standards will be reverted. CrazyBoy826

I dont know. I saw you create Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/24.68.2.110 earlier and notify CrazyBoy826 about it. I looked through the page, and I can't help but suspect that the master account of all those IP's is Crazyboy himself, since:

  1. They both have edited the same pages (weather boxes, with a heavy focus on Canada and China), and are involved in the ongoing precipitation color debate;
  2. They both seem to favor the "blue snow" side of the debate;
  3. They both live in or near Vancouver;
  4. Crazyboy abruptly stopped editing on Jun 12, right as the range blocks of the IP's began rolling in.

Crazyboy and I have had little contact, essentially just the weather box talk page, but he was helpful in his replies to me and he even added to an essay I wrote about bad climate data, something nobody else has done. It feels so wrong for me to repay him for his kindness by accusing him of being a sockmaster, but I can't keep it to myself. I hope Im wrong.

If Im wrong, Im prepared to handle whatever blowback comes to me from him or anyone else for making the false accusation. Im making this accusation because I genuinely suspect it is true. If I happen to be right, I would urge the people to be lenient about punishment as his positive contributions far outweigh the negatives, and he has done some things that likely no one else would have ever done.

I've been around Wikipedia for a long time .... I know how to put the sock template on his page but I just can't bring myself to do it. I want advice. If you think I should go forward with this, I will do so, since Im the one making the accusations, not you. I just want to hear a second opinion.

Thanks, Soap 01:57, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Hmmm, thats interesting. Although they might live in the same area and edit similiar articles, I don't believe Crazyboy is the one behind all this. Nearly every edit these IPs have ever made have consisted of either changing the green precipitation color to all blue, or less frequently, changing the blue snow color to green. As far as I can tell, Crazyboy climate-related edits have been mainly concerned with updating and adding data to many of the climate charts around Wikipedia. So the edits don't really seem to align to me, in fact, he was the one who reverted a lot of the vandalistic edits the IPs made, for example here, here and here, among many others. Also, he created an entire page dedicated to tracking all the IPs that were suspected socks of 24.68.2.110, and I don't know, but I don't think it would make much sense to create a page full of his own sockpuppets if he were really the mastermind behind this entire color-changing scheme of pure ridiculousness. It does seem kinda strange, however, that Crazyboy would stop editing abruptly in the midst of all these IPs coming back, but I have no idea. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 02:45, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your prompt reply and your additional evidence. I feel rotten for reporting a person who's only been good to me, but if anything his IP tracking page shows that he's a little too good at catching the IP edits, in some cases just minutes away from them. There are certainly other explanations for this ... CB could have a large watchlist, or an automated tool that searches for specific edits, or there might be an edit filter set up I dont know about ... which is why I'm far from 100% sure about my claim. I should be able to handle this from here. Thanks, Soap 14:29, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

In order to avoid copyright violations, the entire section must be rewritten and paraphrased using your own words. Just switching out a couple words cannot bypass this violation, as the sentence structures and linguistic elements are still too similar. Copyright violations are very serious on Wikipedia, and it'll be a shame to have the entire section – which makes up the majority of the article – removed. PS: I've made some changes to make the article smoother, avoid plagiarism, and add more detailed characters' achievements and sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96omar (talkcontribs) 22:13, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Bouncing WIkipedia Globe

Hi there,

I have to say that I love the bouncing Wikipedia globe on your User page. May I ask how you did this, as I am currently refreshing my user profile and would love to include it on my own, if that is at all possible? Many thanks in advance BillyDee (talk) 08:39, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Here is the code I used, you can copy and paste it directly onto your user page source. Cheers! ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 18:42, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Making Wikepedia Neutral politically

I have noticed that many of your articles on Wikipedia seem to distinguish people on the right as conservatives but people on the left are never called leftists or liberal.You reversed a change of inaccurate info. and eliminated pertinent info i added as non constructive because it shed light on the comments of a leftist student. You called it non constructive. Nice euphemism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.86.232 (talk) 07:05, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

I applaud you for taking note of Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Nice job. However, you seem to also totally disregard perhaps the most important policy Wikipedia mandates, everything must have a verifiable and reliable source, especially with contentious claims like the one you made here. Because you failed to provide an inline citation with your claims, they have been reverted. The WP:BURDEN is on you to correctly add inline citations yourself, don't rely on other Wikipedia editors to do it for you. If you happen to have any references in mind, I suggest you also keep an eye out for WP:NOR. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 07:16, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

User:Actress Bhumi Shirodkar

I was hoping the welcome message in their language would get them to move on, even though it was awkward to state "thank you for your contributions", etc. Oh well, worth a shot I guess even though it appears that are WP:NOTHERE. S0091 (talk) 20:46, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

Disruptive vandal

Hey there! Can you please help me with that pesky WW sock?? I already issued a report at WP:AIV but no one seems to block him! I seriously don't know what else to do. CycloneYoris talk! 00:27, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Never mind. An admin already blocked him! CycloneYoris talk! 00:53, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my talk page. Field Marshal Aryan and I have been chasing this guy down the edit filter for racist edits and he's been trying to vandalize our talk pages. FYI he's been reported to AIV. Thanks, Giraffer (stay home) 08:15, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

In regards to edit on July 14

You reverted an edit in which someone had undone my addition. Then, you undid it too. Can you explain me as to why is that so? And why does my entry fall out of context even though there isn't anything I came across in Wikipedia guidelines that suggests so? Talking about this page.

Sorry about the confusion on the page, I undid my revert as I realized that I also agreed that it wasn't a notable event. Generally speaking, entries listed on such pages are only reserved for events that have a profound impact on society for a long period of time, and most sports events does not quite reach that notability. Taking note of WP:NOTNEWS, Routine news reporting of announcements, sports, or celebrities is not a sufficient basis for inclusion in the encyclopedia. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 08:32, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
