Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Nievesismyname. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Aina Dumlao, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Noticed that you have claimed ownership of the subject's photo (with seemingly valid exif data), while in one of the sources you have provided, the same photo is attributed to the subject. Hence, I am assuming that you and the subject has a connection with each other. – robertsky (talk) 01:09, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

- Thanks so much for your thoughtful suggestions. I made the corrections you suggested. Also, I am NOT the person the article is about. I am a Wiki newbie, however, with much to learn on how to properly cite work. The article has been approved, and I am now onto my next Filipino-American article. Thanks again so much.

- You don't need to be the person to have WP:COI. You can be connected to her by virtue of employment, familial ties, or even as friends. – robertsky (talk) 00:27, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Nievesismyname, and no, the corrections have not been made at this time of writing. – robertsky (talk) 00:29, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. – robertsky (talk) 07:32, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Nievesismyname: How goes it? I was wondering if your any way related to Aina Dumlao in any capacity or perhaps been paid by her to do work to her article. Wikipedia likes to keep track of article that being created in accordance with policy. If you are, all you need to do is create coi declaration. It is pretty simple. Please get back when you can. scope_creepTalk 10:16, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. I am neither. This is too much info than I care to give, but I am half-Fil, been tracking her and 3 other women of Filipino descent this past few years. Saw a recent interview Aina did, looked her up and saw she did not have a Wiki. I decided to create one for her (and thereafter, the 3 Filipinas). The first draft of the article was declined for very few references/citations. So I revised it and added ever article I could find, which I guess was also a red flag. I also mistakenly referenced a photo I did not own, which I then deleted. But the deletion was also seen as a red flag. After I made all the suggested corrections, I removed the COI tag thinking I did all the recommendations. But that was also a red flag. If I were getting paid or related to the person, this would be worth it. But I am not. Therefore, if the community believes this is a COI or that the person doesn't deserve an article, is there any way to just delete it completely from Wikipedia?Nievesismyname (talk) 15:20, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- I am not sure, Nievesismyname, why you would think that you must be paid to have a conflict of interest. Drmies (talk) 15:51, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- I mentioned getting paid in reference to what scope_creep wrote above. That's the context of my response. I am aware what COI is.Nievesismyname (talk) 16:03, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- Good--that's a start. In the meantime, I blocked User:Toshiroakira, for obvious reasons. Please don't try to play us. Can you be serious for a moment? Stop lying, and stop asking for something to be removed (that will not happen, not likely). Honesty is the best policy: COI editing is not forbidden, but dishonesty is, and so is undeclared paid editing; there is no way that first draft was not a PR effort by a (semi-)professional. So, your choice. Please realize I could have blocked you indefinitely already after finding you you were operating another account. Drmies (talk) 16:16, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- Yup, gonna cop to that other account I made out of utter frustration. Semi-pro? That part is not true. I fashioned the article based on other existing articles. Like I said, I am totally cool with the article being taken down completely and this account being deleted. I don't see an easy way to do that myself, but I can try to figure it out. The frustration and work is taking too much of my time and mental space.
- Imagine how much of our time and mental space you've wasted. No, I've already mentioned that we are not going to delete Aina Dumlao, because four other editors have already worked on it. Accounts also cannot be "deleted", though they could be blocked, of course, I'm not going to drop a block on this just because you refuse to deal with a problem you created yourself. So the best thing for you to do, I suppose, is to walk away, and not respond--we're pretty much done here anyway. Drmies (talk) 17:12, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
