[edit]Thank you, but I don't want to waste your time. It would have been for personal use and I just wanted to know if Bugs could give me a couple tips on making it. Thank you for your offer though. Soxwon (talk) 00:19, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I'll probably need to know it for the future lol. I wanted to have one that says something to the effect of: Devil's dictionary definition of the day (love alliteration), and then have an easy to change place to insert the definition. How would I do this? I tried to follow the one on wikipedia but I got lost :$. Soxwon (talk) 00:23, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Just to let you know, it appears that in [this edit], you unintentionally messed up the WP:PNT page. As it turned out, it is not your fault: the {{needtrans}} had been redirected to a place where it should not have been. I made the necessary corrections. I just want to make sure I listed the right page. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 01:06, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Fair Use Rationale?
[edit]You tagged File:Riders - Jilly Cooper.png, but after looking at the various help pages and looking at some examples for covers of other books, I'm not 100% sure what to write as a fair use rationale. Can you look at what I have written and give me some pointers? Cheers mi dears. Crazy-dancing (talk) 03:44, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

- Dear Neurolysis, many thanks again for your feedback. Well... the question of notability of persons is sometimes subjective - or, which is the fact mostly, a writer have to bee near on the art- and music-scene to be qualified making a ruling. Before my edits, the article reports on the efficacy of Oscillococcinum the following.
However they concluded the data are not strong enough to make a general recommendation to use Oscillococcinum for flu.[7]
Below it is the original source the article uses - before my edits. http://mrw.interscience.wiley.com/cochrane/clsysrev/articles/CD001957/frame.html
Authors' conclusions (review from Cochrane)
Though promising, the data were not strong enough to make a general recommendation to use Oscillococcinum for first-line treatment of influenza and influenza-like syndromes. Further research is warranted but the required sample sizes are large. Current evidence does not support a preventative effect of Oscillococcinum-like homeopathic medicines in influenza and influenza-like syndromes.

Covey Book Cover
[edit]I had difficult getting the image of the book cover to upload and therefore there are multiple copies of the file. It appears I am not able to delete any of them. I would like to have all but one (the one that is linked to the Covey article, describing this book) deleted.
Also, I have added the fair use rationale to the file. Could you tell me if it is acceptable? It was unclear to me WHERE I was supposed to put the rationale on the page.
Thank you for your help.

Covey Book Cover
[edit]I added the following below the template about fair use of book covers: "To be used to illustrate Stephen Covey article describing this new book."
Where do I put the rationale? I am fairly new to editing Wikipedia and want to be able to use the image with the article describing the book. Fair Use Images
[edit]Hi, and thanks for your message.
In all honesty I've no idea what I should be editing into that image... it's a screenshot of a public website, and one that I could have the owners give wikipedia permission to use incredibly easily... Could you advise me on what to do to the image?

Sweet Jesus article logo suitability for infobox
[edit]FWIW, I updated the logo, I did not add it afresh. Prior to my update, there was a (far worse) quality version of the same logo there, as it was for some time.
Therefore, I think its suitability for inclusion in the infobox is merited as it wasn't a new addition, just an update of existing content. Would you object to my Being Bold and readding it to the infobox? Any images of the band whatsoever are scant, never mind free or fair-use justified images, and the logo is distinct and immediately recognisable.
Opinions or thoughts? If I don't hear from you I may just go ahead and revert your edit because I think it's of worthly inclusion to the article.
Regards, Christopher (talk) 23:21, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
- wrt your response on my talk page, I'm not against the correction of wrongs per se, but as the logo has been in the article for some time it would seem to me that its removal (just after a qualitative improvement) can only serve to only reduce the overall value of the article as a whole. As the group has formally disbanded, I can't think of any particular reason why the band's logo cannot and should not be used in the infobox.
- Curiously, I am in the position where I can actually ask one of the band members for permission to use a photo of the entire band in the article, however the logo is instantly recognisable and seems appropriate to put in the infobox. However, given that at this time there are no photos clearly available under a FU regime to incorporate into the article, the most prudent course of action (which also retains the prior value of the article) would be to reinstate the logo until a suitable band image is sourced and permission given for its use in WP).
- Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Picture copyright The Manual
[edit]Hi You are disputing my copyright to this picture. But it's okay. I've got it from the owner "Women Can Do It" for free use. (Isagrand (talk) 08:56, 4 March 2009 (UTC))
Hi neuro! This image has been released by the photographer and the owner as a free image for use on wikipedia. Please let me know how we can get the image back up on the article with sufficient fair use rationale so as to keep it up. Thanks! FG Fox (talk) 19:42, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- The information at http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Jana_Mashonee.jpg is not acceptable? It has non-free promotional, as well as the rationale--that is, it was released by its creator. I'm not really certain as to what else I need, when the image has been released, the licensing has been very clearly specified, and the fair use rationale has been given. Please be more clear :) Specifically, what exactly would you, personally, need to see here to not take this picture down? It seems all the necessary information is there. FG Fox (talk) 20:17, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- So if this image has been released by its creator explicitly for free, open use on wikipedia, there is no way to post it on wikipedia? Please let me know what, specifically, I'd need to get from the creator to allow this image on wikipedia permanently. Thanks for your help :) FG Fox (talk) 06:39, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- First, thank you so much for your help and your specific answer, I'm going to take the steps towards getting the creator to release this image officially. Second, maybe you confused my post with someone else's? Unless I'm grossly mistaken, I definitely didn't say or feel like you were accusing me of passing anything off...on the contrary, I really appreciate your knowledge and guidance! My apologies if I came across as confrontational in any way or caused any confusion--seriously, your help has been invaluable. FG Fox (talk) 18:17, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

This image is not used under a fair use rationale. It has been explicitly licensed by the production manager of Real Time under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. OTRS received notice of the license via an email from an HBO rep earlier today. Thanks, DickClarkMises (talk) 03:07, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- Do what you like. I was CC'd on the permissions email from Mr. Baldino. If you'd like to see it I'd be happy to forward it along. It was sent at 7:03pm EST today. DickClarkMises (talk) 03:14, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- The image was never labeled "fair-use" so it might have been more efficient and courteous to message me before tagging with a template that spurs other editors to act in reliance on your tagging. User:Quadell took action based on your tag. DickClarkMises (talk) 03:21, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I think we still assume good faith even when "lots of people" make bad faith edits, right? I guess I am just saying that this image was uploaded as a CC Attribution 3.0 image, with the name of the person giving the permissions statement noted in the image description. That should have raised at least the possibility that I was editing in good faith, rather than trying to "pass" something "off" (an assumption which implies an assumption of bad faith). DickClarkMises (talk) 04:12, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- In this case, the basic problem is that I forgot to include the otrs-pending template. We need to improve the process for analyzing uploaded images so that we can catch the copyvio stuff without alienating people who are uploading free content legitimately. DickClarkMises (talk) 04:28, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]You said that File:Leonidas02.jpg had no rationale. How about now? Kevin (talk) 15:26, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Otherwise, leave it, and see if ELBO gets upset about Wikipedia using their free, promotional picture that they put on their site so people would know what in the world their APC would look like. [edit]Chris, my name is Alex Jones and I'm a social studies and technology teacher at MCA High School in Brooklyn. The 1st project of this semester is to create a stable wikipedia page that meets all the requirements with respect to copyrighs and etc. To that end, Cunard (another Wiki editor) suggested that I have my students create subpages before they create the actual Wiki pages. This student has added images but wasn't aware of the copyright restrictions or how to avoid deletion, so he reloaded those images. He's not trying to cause problems, he just didn't have a good understanding of how to put up reasonable, copywrite-free images.
Please don't recommend blocking his access to editing pages. I'll work with him to make sure that any future uploads meet Wikipedia copywrite standards.

- I asked one of the admins to advise me on what license she recommended in the email where I told her I wanted to release it, open a ticket, etc. I'm waiting for her to get back to me. It really doesn't matter to me, all rights to it can be given up as far as I'm concerned. Whatever has the least red tape :) If you have any more advice, please let me know. Thankyou for your detailed description of why you tagged the image. I thought I had applied the license, but re-uploaded after it told me I hadn't included a file extension and missed it. I'm still new to this, so your added details were helpful.
However, now I've re-added the license, I'm not sure what I do next, etiquette wise. Do I roll-back the notice or do I contact you to do that?

You said, "
"This image is completely inappropriate"
In what way can it be considered 'inappropriate'? It may be a lot of things; it may be personally offensive to some, but it certainly is appropriate.
Perhaps you might consider clarifying your reasons.

CEMOORE Pres Truman Photo
[edit]Neuro: I am hoping to launch (with Gatoclass' blessing.. not yet given) my grandfathers Wikipedia page: Charles E Moore. I hope to include the photo mentioned above. The original photo (1 of 2 different originals) belongs to our family, handed down to us from our grandfather (the photo subject) Charles E Moore. We wish to share this gift with as a 'public benefit' document, and we believe , as a 'fair use' document. The photographer is unknown. The photo was taken for Charles Moore on the occassion of Truman's visit to Hendy iron Works in 1942.... your thoughts? --charles moore (talk) 03:37, 9 March 2009 (UTC) Thanks Neuro: The photo was used on the cover "Iron Men of Hendy" a company magazine published by Hendy. On the cover it says: President Harry S Truman and Chas E Moore, inside on page 3 a further explanation: "Harry S Truman, the new President of the United States, appears o nthe cover of this Iron Men. With our own company's president Chas E Moore. President Truman toured Hendy in Feb '43. At an employee rally he praised Hendy workmen for a high rate of production on vital items." IMO it is of historical importance .. my family wishes to share it on our grandfathers CEM Wikipedia page. Thanks--charles moore (talk) 04:03, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Image on Steven Toushin page
[edit]Hi Chris! Thanks for your note about providing evidence for permission to use the image at Steven Toushin. The picture is a mugshot, which I suspect is in the public domain. Can you instruct on how to tag the photo as such? Another possibility is to tag the picture with GFDL. Steven Toushin gave me permission to use the photo, but I'm not sure whether this is equivalent to a GFDL. I'll see if I can get an email from him per your instructions on my talk page. Thanks! De Bergerac (talk) 17:47, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the response, Chris. It is my understanding that Toushin sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org stating that he gives permission for a GFDL tag for [File:1974 mugshot of Steven Toushin.jpg] and [File:Bijou Theater and Sex Club.png]. Can you advise on what happens next? Thank you! De Bergerac (talk) 20:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Chris, OrphanBot removed the image [File:1974 mugshot of Steven Toushin.jpg] from the Steven Toushin page. I suspect that too many days had passed from the time I posted the photo and still no permissions email was received. The image [File:Bijou Theater and Sex Club.png] on the Bijou Theater (Chicago) page is intact. Here, I suspect that the OTRS pending tag that you posted saved the image. Can you post a OTRS pending tag to the Steven Toushin page? Or, do you think that I should follow up and make sure that the email was sent? Let me know what you think. Thank you!! [edit]I'm failing to understand the logic of your nomination of the above image. Remote Viewing
[edit]Chris,
I looked up remote viewing and its about paranormal things. Is there a way to have 2 topics about Remote Viewing as the version I want to educate people on is about viewing a camera type device over the internet at a remote location (with an internet connection).
Thanks :)
Kingrattus (talk) 14:31, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Chris,
Hmmmm Webcast is very similar to what I'm talking about however it states "The term webcasting is usually reserved for referring to non-interactive linear streams or events". I could be wrong but the Remove Viewing I'm talking about is interactive. I can control where the camera is pointing (if there is a PTZ camera installed of course), I can get alerts to movements & sounds. I can even tell the system to go into emergency recording mode from where ever I am located. It can't stream to many people all at once as its secure with encription & passwords. There is a max amout & if my memory serves me correct its between 1-5. You can switch bewteen cameras, oh & you can zoom in (doesn't have to be PTZ to do that) & see 1 camera or 4, etc. all at once.
I did some more research (google "remote viewing" & then "Internet Remote Viewing") on the term "Remote Viewing" & there seems to be a difference between "remote viewing" & "internet remote viewing" (learn something new everyday). I guess someone somewhere dropped the word "internet" & everyone just kept saying the incorrect term.
Is this enough information to create a new page called "Internet Remote Viewing" (now that I know my term was incorrect), or is the Webcast info incorrect (the parts I pointed out above)?
Thanks for the assistance :)

I'm having difficulty explaining to Blaze42 the workings of WP:MUSIC, and why – because band members have been talked to in interviews – doesn't make them notable. The user is frequently ignoring the redirects, and not appreciating my 'argument' (despite me quoting Wikipedia guideline). I know you've spoken to them regarding the (non fair use) images they've uploaded, so I thought I'd get your opinion – I don't want to violate WP:3RR, but it seems over-the-top to request protection. As you may be aware, there is currently no process for allowing the simultaneous upload of and OTRS certification of images. In order to facilitate speedy OTRS certification of an image whose contribution was solicited by a non-OTRS editor, the editor must first upload the image and then send a boilerplate email to the copyright-holder for forwarding to the permissions folks. The image linked above is an example of such an image (that has been uploaded, and is awaiting OTRS cert). You were quick enough on the trigger to catch the image before I added the OTRS-pending template. Cheers, DickClarkMises (talk) 20:26, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Photo licensing: File:Mir-Hossein_Mousavi.jpg
[edit]Neurolysis,
You tagged the image "Mir-Hossein_Mousavi.jpg" as lacking evidence of permission and asked that such evidence be provided. I'll try to explain why asking for such evidence is not tenable in this case. That particular image was taken in Iran during president Khatami's administration. These photos were released to newspapers such as Iran-daily in a manner similar to that of US government public domain graphics and photos release. At the time, Copy-right laws in Iran were not established to the extent of the same in western countries. Because of these, it's not highly likely that even Daily-paper would know who took that photo. In either case, in most cases western Copy-right laws have not been compatible with those in Iran in the past. 02:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC) Malezgerd
I looked more into it and apparently, by current laws, Iran's copy-right are restricted to its borders and beyond them there is none. For non-farsi sections, that makes it public domain. Malezgerd (talk) 19:34, 17 March 2009 (UTC) Malezgerd
Sure, I agree with that; it's a logical way to deal with it. I searched through the available licenses, none of them quite matches it. Fair use of a living person doesn't work either. So anything to do?/ make a new license? Malezgerd (talk) 04:34, 19 March 2009 (UTC)malezgerd

[edit]Neuro: your talk page is the easiest to understand and navigate . I know because I'm brand new to this process. I am now realizing the extent of your (& others) behind the scene type commitment that makes Wikipedia special. As well , I admire how you tolerate edgy (and sometimes downright nasty) communications from various users. In sum, I say "keep up the great work" !!! You & the others (wizzard of Oz's) are indeed special. --charles moore (talk) 19:53, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I would like to tie just Security Equipment(CCTV cameras, CCTV systems, CCTV/car/home alarms, remote gates, etc) together on Wiki as a Sub Cat.... I'm now working on updating this area (mostly CCTV stuff as I know it quite well).
Is this Sub-Cat ok to create?

Whilst you might disagree with his edits, there are absolutely no way his edits are vandalism, although I concur that they weren't correct. Please don't bite the newbies - he has been actively editing for less than a month, and there is no way that his edits are in bad faith. — neuro(talk)(review) 17:42, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- I did respect the possibility that these edits were made in good faith. After seeing and ignoring several of these edits that appeared to add several unrelated articles in a see also section, the rapid pace nature of these changes and the expanding unrelatedness of the articles being changed made these edits appear to be likely vandalism. That the pace continued, and the unreltadness grew worse after warnings only raised further concerns. I had already communicated with the editor in question to provide some input on why there were issues with the string of edits in question. Any further guidance you could provide might only help with the issue. Alansohn (talk) 18:10, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Section tagging
[edit]Chris, is there a statement in the guidelines regarding tagging for unreferenced, etc. that warns against tagging multiple sections? WhisperToMe (talk) 21:53, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- In that case: Chris, sometimes the point needs to be hammered again and again into the reader. It is common sense to entice people to reference the sections by being repetitive. Plus a reader may start reading from a section, not from the beginning. To me common sense is to let the reader know the article needs help. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:18, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:2009tongaearthquakeusgsshakemap.jpg
[edit]actually I didn't upload that latest version, Spencer did when he edited it for the front page. I presume I was notified as I accidentally added a local category instead of a commons one when I originally uploaded the image to commons. I deleted the local copy and Spencer uploaded over the deletion when he created the edit. Anyway its a long and boring story, but I have copied the missing USGS source and copyright info over from Commons where it has always existed to fix the problem here on En. [edit]Hi Chris,
I just received your note about the Fair Use issue with regards to the Fiction Plane image on their Wikipedia page, as well as the one on Seton Daunt's page.
What I am having trouble understanding is that I received these images directly from the band with the expressed desire to use them on these pages. How do I prove this to Wikipedia? They are official promo shots.
Please advise.

Leo Babsky pics
[edit]Hi,
apologies about the Copyright issue with the 'leo babsky' sculpture pics, i wasn't sure what copyright thing to select when i uploaded them and then i couldn't work out how to get back to edit them and change the copyright afterwards so i just had to leave them as was until you deleted them.
The artist has given me permission to release the copyright and put them on the page. How do i get them back and change the copyright? or do i need to upload them again and do it the correct way first time. It was the first time i ever tried to upload pictures. I WAS AMAZED I EVEN managed to do get them to work...

Copywrite problem with magdalensky.jpg
[edit]Hi Chris,
Hoped you could help me out with a little advice. I've just received your message about the photograph of the Magdalen Sky CD single having File Copywrite problems and needing a copywrite Tag. I just wondered if you could possibly give me some hints about how to resolve these issues...I'm very new to editing Wikipedia and I've just created my first article for this single and as such, this is actually the first time I've uploaded a picture.
lthough the single's cover artwork is obviously owned by the record company, the picture I've uploaded is my own "user-created" photograph of the cover and is solely to illustrate the audio recording in question. Would this therefore qualify as "fair use" or "user-created" as far as the image copywrite is concerned?
Many thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

OTRS?
[edit]Ok i read the OTRS pages, not sure at all how it works or how Leo is supposed to give permission using it. How do i go about telling him how to do it? Is it necessary?
I know him personally, he basically said that as far as he was concerned the images of his work didn't have any copyright as he'd already released them into the public domain on his facebook and myspace pages so i should feel free to use any pictures of his work that were there.
Having said that i would more than likely upload them with the attribution licence so that if they are used elsewhere they have to be attributed to 'Leo Babsky'
Is that not sufficent? doozersdo (talk) 22:37, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Why did you leave comments on all of my pictures saying they were taken from google street view or whatever? They were not, I took all of those recent photos from my trip down to houston. Every time I upload my photos that I have taken someone always flags them and then I have to reupload them and its really really really frustrating. So could you please take those comments off of my pictures and instead of just saying they were taken off google, actually research it because people take pictures and because they take pictures it doesnt mean they took them from google. I took those pictures with my my nikon d200 and in no way did I steal them from google and call them my own. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Photolitherland (talk • contribs) 13:54, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- I mean seriously, why would you say all of my photos were copyrighted from google? So do you go around and do that to any photo that was taken from a street? So basically, any photo that was taken from a street you automatically say it was taken from google? How about this, you go to google street view and look up those cities and you will see that there are no photos that look like that on there. I took all of those photos specifically so I could put them on wikipedia. Not so that I could get banned from editing from wikipedia. Seriously man, thats not cool. Do some research before you go blaming someone for taking photos from google. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Photolitherland (talk • contribs) 14:01, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Stitching????? What the heck is that? Dont you know that the photos from google street view dont look good like mine do? They are usually blurry and not very well exposed. Do you realize how pissed off you are making me? I took a two day trip from Russellville, Arkansas to Houston Texas just so I could stop in all of the small towns on the way down to Houston so I could put the pictures on wikipedia. Seriously, google street view pictures suck and why in the world would you get my photos mixed up with googles? Just go to google and look up those cities and you will see that they are not the same in the least. How in the world do those photos look stitched? Do you know anything about photography? I dont see any evidence of stitching at all and how in the world would I know what the latitude and longitude was of where I took those pictures? I mean, every single picture of mine that I posted yesterday you said I stole them from google. Thats not cool man. I spent a lot of time taking those pictures with my d200 and its really going to piss me off if they get deleted and then I get banned just because I was trying to make wikipedia a better place to research. Seriously, just do your research and instead of blaming someone on false pretenses that they stole copyrighted work, just research it. It would take like 10 minutes to look up those cities on google and then you would see that I did not steal them from google, but instead, took those pictures myself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Photolitherland (talk • contribs) 14:14, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]How come only when I brighten the image a little and upload it again is it targeted for deletion??????? MiracleMat (talk) 21:38, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, so you troll new images daily hoping to find something you can delete. What I don't understand is why it wasn't a problem until NOW. Explain it to me like I"m a 2-year old. Please MiracleMat (talk) 21:42, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
- You're not good with people are you? When I asked you to explain it, I didn't mean explain WHY nobody else found it. I was asking you to explain why my image was tagged. I honestly don't understand. It's an image of the front quarter panel of a racecar showing contingency stickers. Not only does every company represented by each sticker give the right for their logos to be displayed, but, they, in fact, demand it anytime an image of a NASCAR racecar is used; it's in their contract, so I DON'T see the problem. Random much? o.O Thanks for telling me though. Just out of simple curiosity, do you know who the sockmaster was? Inferno, Lord of Penguins 15:52, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

- I don't know where I should go with this, but I think I've found the sockmaster. Using history and Special:ListUsers, I've found some very interesting things. There was also a Inferno,Lord of Penguins 2 and a Inferno Lord of Penguins 2.2 according to Special:ListUsers (I think you reported them as well, judging by the history of WP:UAA). 2 and 2.2 harassed User:The Polish Leader, but here comes the interesting part...User:SchnitzelMannGreekIIII is created, and within its first few minutes goes to The Polish Leader's page, claims to be their friend and insults Penguins 2. That sparked some dejavu...and I was right. I knew I had dealt with a SchnitzelMannGreek before. Look at - this: I had several run-ins with an IP that demanded that User:SchnitzelMannGreek be unblocked. He has a history of socking - see this. I strongly suspect he spoofed me with the 3 accounts (he is probably trying to make me look bad) and is likely User:The Polish Leader, judging by the fact that his latest sock came to their defense only four minutes after creation. But now that I've found this...should I take it to WP:SPI? Inferno, Lord of Penguins 21:17, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. I was the chairman of the board of Open Door Productions/Door County Voices [a 501(c)3 arts non-profit] when this recording was produced and also oversaw the production of the cassette artwork that is the subject of this discussion. This cassette artwork WAS owned by Open Door Productions at the time of the project, but the group has since dis-incorporated as a legal entity. Cream_BCB.jpg and Traffic1.jpg
[edit]I did these right, didn't I? FotoPhest (talk) 00:07, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I dunno, seemed like a fine candidate. He says he wants to become an admin so he can defend articles he works on. OK, that's kind of a narrow-minded reason, but at least he's honest about it, eh? It is kind of funny, though, to see a guy go all the way from an admin nomination to a block in the space of an hour and 15 minutes. That's a pretty good accomplishment. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 10:23, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- I suppose he might have reasons to be annoyed. Maybe on my recent RfA, I should also have said my main goal would be to block anyone who dares to touch an article on my watch list. Then sit back and watch the Opposes roll in like a tsunami. So then if I got nominated again, I could look so much better by comparison. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 10:30, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- "Don't watchlist your RfA..." maybe good advice. It's more fun to watchlist someone else's. That IP was already on my watchlist for some reason, a known sockpuppet of himself - which, again, he openly admitted to. Give him points for honesty! I wish I'd have known about his RfA before it was closed. I might have said "Support" just for fun. I always find self-nominations to be in questionable taste, frankly. But at least this guy had some edits. There was one not too many weeks ago that nominated himself without having even one edit to an article. That's a record you can tie, but not beat, for sure. The photo comes from Flickr where is is freely licensed for all use with attribution to the author "Smudge9000." The author confirmed this release to me in an email. Has this not been identified? Copyright on uploaded images
[edit]I just uploaded two images:
HeartDiseaseForWhiteMales.gif - I no longer need that one, so it can be deleted if desired.
UpdatedHeartDiseaseMap.jpg - I still need this one, but just got a notice that I failed to add the copyright info.
I am trying to update that info, but apparently do not know how. (I am a newbie!)
This is a freely available image from the US government, Department of Health and Human Services, so that is the tag I need to add.
Can you help me do that??

SVG
[edit]Within minutes of my uploading 'Greater Sudbury logo.png' you had loaded an upgrade to SVG. I wonder where you sourced the original. Did you convert my PNG? -Secondarywaltz (talk) 17:31, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- Mine came from a PDF too. I was afraid you had based your higher quality image on my reduced quality original. Thanks. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 17:35, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's not so much the quality of the SVG itself. If there is detail missing from what the conversion is based on then the resulting image, although being technically correct, would also be flawed. That was why I was concerned that you had used my reduced PNG based on the better PDF original. There is a bot that goes around coverting crappy JPG and GIF images to PNG without any concern for the grainy original. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 18:44, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- Could you help? I checked my primative software and none can convert PDF to SVG. I think http://www.matbus.com/Documents/HowToRide.pdf has another lossless PDF logo for Fargo Moorhead Metro Area Transit. I will not bother doing a PNG if you would quickly create the SVG right afterwards. I try and upgrade beginner bus transit articles like this with an infobox, logo and references and leave the stub creator to expand further. There's still a little more cleanup to do here. Thanks. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 03:34, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Question regarding photo usage
[edit]I am an employee of the Missouri House of Representatives, and am uploading official photos (found on the Missouri House of Representatives web site) to the Wikipedia bios of our members. You directed me to stop, because these images are supposedly replaceable. I need to know how (since I am not the original photographer but they fall under fair use or free use rationale) what I need to do so that the photos can be put onto Wikipedia's server. I'm trying my best to figure out what they would fall under, but apparently my attempts are a massive FAIL.Shrekums (talk) 20:01, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

I need Help!! First, Thank you for your work on the photos. Here is the problem. I've been working on this article for over a month. I got it just right. A few weeks ago I used a some non-free photos. I was not allowed to edit for a week for image abuse. Most of my images were deleted. When able to edit again, I added more photos (old and digital from my archives)not non-free- only three images are now non-free, but now all my images are tagged as copywrite unsure. What do I do? Please help with source I listed and copywrite I used for these. All these images (except three non-free) are my photos that I took. Thanks. (Vegavairbob23:52, 30 March 2009 (UTC))
