George Adamski Article
I just wanted to thank you for your attention to the George Adamski article, specifically reverting the recent edits by user 2601:1c2:4100:ec0:fca1:7107:65b3:a41 and 2601:1c2:4100:ec0:1c19:f670:3b2c:54ed (I strongly suspect they are the same user). As someone who put in a good deal of work completely revising the article a few years ago to a more Wikipedia-appropriate skeptical article with proper citations, I think that the article as it stood before his edits was excellent. While I have no problems with editors making grammatical adjustments or adding properly cited material, I had the sense that this editor was the type who would start out making small edits, and would then gradually try to rewrite much of the article to suit their own needs and purposes. IMO, the article is already appropriately (strongly) skeptical of Adamski within an appropriate encyclopedia format, it is properly cited, and well-written, clear, and well-organized. I was about to contact you regarding the above user's recent edits. Thank you for monitoring the article and reversing the most dubious new wording and reworking of sentences and phrases. I have no problems with constructive edits, but I had the sense that this editor has another agenda in mind, and I did not want to see a good article ruined via dubious wording and sentence alterations and additions. 2606:A000:1011:C156:BCCA:ED7A:1BFA:880F (talk)

In the context we're talking about, you can subjectively believe one of them is better but it'd be nice if you could explain how so, and you can't really call either version more encyclopedic. I mean, it's quite obvious, these are just explanatory paragraphs in neutral and descriptive style, so they are both as encyclopedic as a small part of sourced and factually correct piece of text can get. The community’s name changing frequently is a reference to the names changing from Battle Ridge to Bear Bayou to Silas Baines to Silas. Can’t copy from the source

And Silas was expanding because it was! The settlement had a gin, sawmill, school, the source mentioned the houses getting spread out. A lot of backup for this one
The area began attracting settlers before the Civil War, The settlement began attracting settlers wanting to disassociate from the civil war, maybe you can change this one, but it was quite hard to reword it.

- The place to talk about the Draft:Silas, Texas article is on the Draft:Silas, Texas Talk Page, not here. But as you have approached me here, I can comment generally on what you have said to me. You saying " The community’s name changing frequently" is absurd -- three name changes in 140-ish years is not "frequently". You mention four names of the town here, but the article only mentions three! Your "simple math into percentages" statement shows you lack some skills. 90 white to 64 black is not 66% white 33% black as you claim above. It is 58% white and 41% black. Your directive to me to "Read sources properly" is an insult, and reveals you haven't grasped a fundamental of the way wikipedia works. Any claims in an article should be able to be checked by the reader, via references. If there are no references, and someone asks for them but they are not added to the article, then the claims may be removed. That is sure to happen to your draft article if references are not given. And, the sources must support the claims in the article. No OR, especially bodgie maths, or POV. I see on your talk page that other editors have remarked on your problematic editing. - Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

- Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
Technical news
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Guideline and policy news
- Following an RfC, extended confirmed protection may be used preemptively on certain high-risk templates.
- Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.
Technical news
- DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.
Arbitration
- A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
- Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
- The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.
Miscellaneous
- Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
- The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

- Phase 2 of the 2021 RfA review has commenced which will discuss potential solutions to address the 8 issues found in Phase 1. Proposed solutions that achieve consensus will be implemented and you may propose solutions till 07 November 2021.
