User talk:MisterBee1966/Archive 4
Hi MisterBee1966. I see you transcluded this FLC this morning. Thing is, your existing nomination has yet to draw any comments, nor support, so I would urge you to remove this latest nomination until such a time that issues in the 1942 list can be sorted out and read across to your other lists. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:11, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- No issues have been reported because nobody's reviewed it, and nobody's supporting it yet! The Rambling Man (talk) 08:46, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- When you nominate two lists of a similar nature, it's best to wait until one has a number of reviews/support in case there are fundamental issues with one of them which would therefore impact the other. Also, the FLC instructions are quite clear on this : Users should not add a second FL nomination until the first has gained substantial support and reviewers' concerns have been substantially addressed. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:49, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- Leave the 1942 one (I'm hoping to get time to review it in the next couple of days, by the way), and withdraw the 1943 one. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:14, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Major Eduard Tratt
[edit]Dear "MisterBee1966",
according to the editorial page concerning the information on Major Eduard Tratt you wrote most of it.
Please keep in mind that there still exist the relatives of Major Eduard Tratt whom you did not contact before providing the information to the English branch of Wikipedia.
In case you would like to get some further information please drop me a message via Wikipedia "My talk". (You can use the German language in order to leave me a message. I am a native German speaker!)
I am looking forward to receiving some lines from you.

For your further information:
DO NOT mess up with the family = the relatives of Major Eduard Tratt!!!

Dear "MisterBee1966",
I have received your following lines:
So how can I help you? I have a question regarding the removal of citations. Why did you remove them? Surely you understand the principles of Wikipedia. All information posted on Wikipedia is subject to WP:Verifiability—The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true.—which means if its not written somewhere and not verifiable by the reader it is subject to deletion, whereas cited information prevails. Now, this doesn't mean that the sources are correct, and as a relative you may have more insight into the matter than others. But accusing me or others on Wikipedia of "DO NOT mess up with the family = the relatives of Major Eduard Tratt!!!" is impolite and wrong! The information posted on the article was based on the sources referenced. I suggest that you provide verifiable evidence for the changes you made. Thank you and good day. MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:22, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Here are my answers:
1.) Why did I remove one of the citations? My answer is: The information given by you concerning the rank of my relative was false. Eduard Tratt happened to be Hauptmann at this time of his career and not Oberleutnant! (As a member of the family of Eduard Tratt I do not have to provide you any evidence. You should have contacted the family before placing the information.)
2.) Why did I mention "not to mess up" with my family? Answer: In the past so called "researchers" tried to gather information on Eduard Tratt using illegal measures and methods. I totally dislike such persons! In case you are not such a person I apologize for my words.
3.) How can you help me? The answer is that I think it is the opposite way this help works. Within the article on Eduard Tratt I placed additional information which you did not have e.g. the time for his awards concerning the different classes of the "Iron Cross". (As a member of the family of Eduard Tratt I do not have to provide you any evidence. You should have contacted the family before placing the information.)
Have a nice weekend!

Wikipedia user "Eduard Tratt"

Dear "MisterBee1966",
as you like to prefer to exchange lines in English I will answer your latest lines briefly.
In one comment you suggested to use Fellgiebel as a source of information concerning the award of the "Eichenlaub" to Eduard Tratt. I do not think that the addition "... a member of Eduard Tratt's family ..." didn't confirm this source of information is the correct approach for the solution of this problem. The truth should be told and not what Fellgiebel wrote in his book concerning the "Eichenlaub".
In your latest lines you asked me which kind of source I might consider trustworthy. The correct answer is: the information which is required to provide trustful information upon Major Eduard Tratt lies within his personal documents e.g. the papers regarding the reward of "awards", "ranks" etc.
I do not know if you are aware of the fact that most of the books dealing with the different kinds of "Zerstörergeschwader" were based on Obermaier. Obermaier in common is a valid source of information but it is not the only one!
I may consider that you establish contact to the authors/writers of the different books concerning the "Zerstörergeschwader" of the German Nazi Luftwaffe before you provide information dealing with these troops and their (crew)members before you provide any information to the usual users of Wikipedia (the English or any other branch/version).
The use of only books concerning the awards of members of the Luftwaffe or the use of - dated - external hyperlinks does not further your attempt to provide valid information.
Regards
Wikipedia user "Eduard Tratt"
P.S. As I mentioned before I do have personal documents concerning the military awards, carreer and commands of Eduard Tratt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eduard Tratt (talk • contribs) 17:15, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
DYK for Robert-Georg Freiherr von Malapert
[edit]On 8 November 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Robert-Georg Freiherr von Malapert, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Robert-Georg Freiherr von Malapert was the first recipient of the German Cross in Gold? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Walter Storp
[edit]Never heard of it. No HMS exists by this name. Perhaps its Swedish. The only Fafnir I know of is the Bramo 323 name. My sources make no mention of it. Dapi89 (talk) 18:05, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for adding those extra references. I'd only seen the short piece in Hogben's technical history and thought it was interesting about him saving prisoners. Your addition makes it a much stronger article.
I'm saddened to see that he died in only 1946. Do you know any more? I'm guessing this was during further disposal work post-war? Any expansion on the background to his Ritterkreuz would be welcome too.
I'm planning articles for Feueurwerker (armourer), Sprengkommando (just stub definitions) and List of Luftwaffe air-dropped bomb fuzes in World War II (better name?) soon.
Thanks, Andy Dingley (talk) 11:35, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- I also see that you've already linked him from List of Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipients: Sch. However this list describes him as Heer, rather than Luftwaffe. I'd assumed (on admittedly poor grounds) that he was Luftwaffe. Do we have a good source for one or the other, because at present the article and the list contradict each other. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:49, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Re: Review
[edit]Of course, with pleasure. I have some suggestions already, but I'm afraid I won't be able to comment on the FLC tomorrow. I will certainly have the time on Friday night and / or Saturday morning. If you need it earlier, I can certainly stress my schedule. I will be more specific in the review, but in general I want you to know that the lists are indeed worth of reaching featured status; I don't think they lack something compared to other relative lists that reached featured status the past months / years. Best wishes, --Jake V (talk) 20:50, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I am sure that this could be extremely useful; Even I have many problems when it comes to abbreviations of units, ranks etc. It could help a lot people who are not familiar to the subject. I can't think something better than that. It will spare a lot of explanatory notes. As for the photos, I'm glad we agree that "free" pose is not adequate.
- P.S. Have you ever thought of making a list of Knight's Cross Recipients of the Gebirgsjäger? There is some literature available (Die Ritterkreuzträger der Gebirgstruppe, I think 2 vols). A suggestion only, as I see you have plenty of tasks for now --Jake V (talk) 13:23, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- If you can, add a relevant example of a Batallion of an Infanterieregiment to help those who are not familiar with the structure in general. Perhaps expand to the numerical conventions of Army and Army Corps level? In that case, the glossary of Kumm's History of the Prinz Eugen Division I bought recently could be used as a reference about when and where arabic / latin numbers are used. If you want I can add the ref. Other than that - which is not a great matter - the article adresses the issue completely in my viewpoint --Jake V (talk) 11:27, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- Oh and btw good luck with the Oak Leaves recipients! --Jake V (talk) 11:27, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Review
[edit]- It seems you are doing much better now. One down one to go!
- I hadn't a chance to reply sooner. I have been away for two days staring at Tiger, Panther and Jagd-type AFVs. I had a chance to inspect the Tiger I - the only one in the World still running. The damage is still visible below the turret line (they tend to keep damage and not restore those parts, more authentic I think). The driver said it was rotten to drive and it took/takes 10 hours of maintenance for every one hour on operations. Didn't know that. Unfortunately we could not stay long – it was tucked away in a shed next to some current MOD repair workshop which we were not allowed to see, and the workers only gave us five minutes. Some rare stuff in there. They even have a Jagdpanzer. I believe its the largest concentration of rare-ish AFVs in the World. Dapi89 (talk) 18:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Your DYK nomination of Ernst Lindemann

- What? For many days I have expanded the article from a mere stub to what it is now. Look at the article history. MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:16, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- I do not doubt the amount of work you have put into the article. However, according to DYK selection criterion #1, the 5x expansion must have occurred within the last 5 days to be acceptable as "new". I saw you created articles on the first two captains. Can you take a look at what I've got and see if you can add anything? Lindemann article, tactical considerations
[edit]Hi again, thanks for challenging my interpretation of that sentence. I am still unsure exactly what is meant. Does the source state that Lindemann was a tactically orientated commander, rather than a strategically educated officer? [edit]I believe that Secondary School should be in capitals as should Naval Captain, as an official title, if not an actual rank. Where it is written "first or second gunnery officer" should this not be First or Second Gunnery Officer - capitals for title? Dapi89 (talk) 15:28, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- If I might butt in... I believe secondary school should only be capitalised if it is part of the name of an actual school, eg Brown Hill Secondary School. Another secondary school in the neighborhood uses small letters. Similarly, ranks only get capitals if they are part of a person's title, eg Captain Brown. If First Lieutenant Brown was promoted to captain, then no capital. Sometimes it does look a little strange. Rumiton (talk) 17:39, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

If you still have any doubt, WT:OMT is the place (we discuss if there is an article in the scope all the time); though I must warn you that most of the guys have eyes only for the phase I articles (ships and classes) at the moment. Personally, I think that sailors are more important to the history of a ship than the guns, but they are harder to document significance. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 11:22, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I would say he qualifies. On an unrelated note (and why I came by) is an article I just started: Reinhold Werner. He was a Vice Admiral in the Prussian/North German/Imperial navies, and wondered if you might have access to information in any of your sources on him. I've got most of the broad strokes on his career (though haven't yet been able to find out when he died, oddly enough). Any help you might be able to provide would be appreciated. Parsecboy (talk) 18:58, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- And now I see that there already was a rather short stub on him at Reinhold von Werner - I moved the new version there. Oddly enough I had added a line to the old version last month, and yet forgot about it entirely. Parsecboy (talk) 20:15, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Helmuth Brinkmann

Lindemann article
[edit]I am afraid I have got too busy with some other pressing articles and haven't made much headway with this one. The main problems have been finding rank equivalents, for which there seems to be no guidance available, and this thing called alt text, which I know nothing about, but which seems to be an important issue for some. An addition to RKträger in the Bundeswehr template
[edit]Hello and welcome back (concerning wishes, better late than never :)). I have an addition to the above-mentioned template: Anton Lorch, RK am 4.6.1944 als Obstlt. u. Kde. GebJägRgt 144 / 3GD, became Brigadegeneral in the Bundeswehr after the war: [3] --Jake V (talk) 18:24, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- I have found a relative list that can be very useful, but I will add any "missing" RKT's later so we don't have any edit conflicts. MfG, --Jake V (talk) 18:45, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm... if there isn't a complete list we'll have to resort in more ad hoc methods of searching. However a list of the BW generals with RK is a start for now. I'll keep my eyes open for any RKT's in the BW below Brigadegeneral, who seem to be the majority --Jake V (talk) 19:28, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Voilà, there you have it, a complete list. I should have searched a bit more thoroughly before usurping the space of your talk page. Good night, and when I find time I will aid you --Jake V (talk) 19:38, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

List of Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipients (A) peer review
[edit]Hi, MisterBee, I've closed the Milhist peer review for List of Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipients (A) because it has now been nominated for an ACR and it is probably not ideal to have two different review processes open at the same time (keeping the peer review open may take away potential A-class reviewers). I trust that this is okay with you. Good luck with the ACR. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 13:09, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Wolfgang Lüth/Officers ranks
[edit]I have just come from the Wolfgang Lüth talk page where I made some pretty crass remarks concerning officer ranks. At that time of night, I was, to put it mildly, rather surprised to see such offerings.
But they are laughable in that they have not been corrected in a relatively long time. If I have offended you, I apologise; I know that my spoken German is far inferior to your written English!
Looking at the article's history, I can see that you are by far the most prolific editor, so I wonder if there is any particular reason why the ranks have not been modified?
I'll go to the article's page now and do the honours.

Main page appearance
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on May 27, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 27, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Ernst Lindemann (1894–1941) was a German naval captain and the only commander of the battleship Bismarck during its eight months of service in World War II. Born in 1894, he joined the German Imperial Navy (German: Kaiserliche Marine) in 1913, and after his basic military training, served on a number of warships during World War I as a wireless telegraphy officer. After World War I, he served in various staff as well as naval gunnery training positions. In May 1941, Lindemann commanded Bismarck during Operation Rheinübung. The German task force, under the command of Admiral Günther Lütjens, consisted of the battleship Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break out of its base in German occupied Norway and attack British merchant shipping lanes in the Atlantic Ocean. The force's first major engagement was the Battle of the Denmark Strait which resulted in the sinking of HMS Hood. Less than a week later, on 27 May, Lindemann and most of his crew lost their lives during Bismarck's last battle. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross ([Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuzes] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help)). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recognized extreme bravery on the battlefield or outstanding military leadership. (more...)

If you haven't picked it up from your watchlist already, you might want to get over here and check the veracity of a few recent edits. I reverted one that seemed like an error or nonsense because no citations were altered despite the change in meaning, but that user is persistent and it may take a discussion on the talk page to sort it. There's also an anon editor whose changes may have merit but I'm not sure. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 21:42, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for my bad english, I'm not a native speaker. I have a question about Emil Lang (fighter ace). I ask you because you expanded this article last year very much. In the article, it's said that he was born at Talheim in the Neckar region near Sontheim of Württemberg. So, where? Sontheim links to Sontheim an der Brenz, but that is not in the neckar region at all, and a "Talheim" is also not nearby. Talheim links to Talheim, Heilbronn, but this is not near Sontheim an der Brenz, and if he would have been born in Talheim, Heilbronn, I think he would have been inscripted in the town's war memorial, but he isn't. So, does the sources you used say anything else that could help to answer this question? SteMicha (talk) 18:42, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
