Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Mike P. McKeever, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created was Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Mike P. McKeever, which appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Mike P. McKeever, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Denniss (talk) 22:51, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... it is an attempt to provide verifiable information about the author, who is myself, which is of interest to others and which meets the guidelines as I understand them. Upon cursory review of the guideline on notability, it seems that much of the information in the page meets that definition. I will be happy to modify particular portions of the submission which fail to meet the guidelines upon receiving notice of which material violates which guidelines. Mike P. McKeever email: mckeever.mp@gmail.com.--Mike P. McKeever (talk) 23:03, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

you can describe in a paragraph or two your education and interests. You should not give a complete resume, or your family genealogy, even if you have sources for it going 900 years earlier that William the Conquerer. The general policy is at WP:User DGG ( talk ) 23:37, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have made several revisions which appear to meet the guidelines more closely. I will try to update the page; if it is successfully updated and you still have questions, please contact me and I will make the changes. If the page does not upload, can you tell me how to revise it? Cheers, mckeever — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:558:6045:63:CA0:B8F4:FED8:FAB3 (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

[edit]

You seem to be having a battle with putting citations in as hard coded numbers, (1) rather than as references.[1] Our references get automagically numbered,[2] which means that, when you have to edit the text the huge labour of renumbering the references is removed.

Want to see how I have done this?[3]

References

[edit]
  1. ^ this is a reference
  2. ^ This is the second reference
  3. ^ Edit this section, the one above, "Citations", to see what I have done

Please make your life easier. Read WP:REFB whcih has a tutorial, or WP:CITE which does not, or ask for help. I can;t stand it seeing you work so hard to do something that we cannot accept. Get the citations right and you stand a chance. Fiddle Faddle 21:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have tidied up the article's current footnotes to some degree, but that's merely cosmetics. For example, only one of the "references", the Geoffrey Stern obituary published by The Guardian, was a reliable source, and that didn't mention McKeever at all. Those "references" which mentioned McKeever were all primary sources, mostly his own writings. To establish that McKeever is notable enough for a Wikipedia article, we need others (reliable sources, not just blogs or social media!) to have written about him in some detail. I don't see that McKeever meets that standard. Regarding the reference code you had problems with, my advice would be to keep it simple. At its most basic, a footnote is created by code like this: <ref>Text of the footnote</ref> That code will create a small numbered link[1] at the place where you put the code, and the text of the footnote will be automatically displayed in the "References" section by the {{reflist}} template, which should be the only content of that section. WP:Referencing for beginners was already pointed out to you; the video at that page explains how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes. Huon (talk) 23:01, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Mike P. McKeever

[edit]

Hello, Mike P. McKeever. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Mike P. McKeever".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Mike P. McKeever}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 00:00, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
