- Due to the Wikimania 2014 conference, there were no MediaWiki changes this week. The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf16) will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on August 12, and to all Wikipedias on August 14 (calendar). [1]
- Bureaucrats on all Wikivoyage wikis are no longer able to merge two accounts into one. [2]
VisualEditor news
- Tablet users visiting the mobile version of non-Wikipedia wikis will be able to use VisualEditor starting on August 12. The feature will also be enabled on all Wikipedias on August 14. [3]
Future software changes

- If you visit a special page that requires you to be logged-in, you will soon be automatically redirected to the log-in page instead of seeing a warning. [7] [8]
- You will now always see recent changes to the source language text when editing a translation with the Translate extension. [9] [10]
- An IRC meeting to discuss VisualEditor will take place on August 14 at 09:00 UTC on the channel #wikimedia-office on freenode (time conversion). [11]

Asad Shafiq Edits
Hello, this is Yousha. I appreciate your efforts however I would like to defend the changes I had made on the page. You mentioned that the tone was better; I assume you made that comment because the page continues with the section "2011–present". I would like to point out that I was about to continue the restructing based on the pages of other cricketers. I was doing it in good faith and with the objective to make all pages related to cricketers look similar (written on the same format). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yousha hashmi (talk • contribs) 15:37, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Yousha hashmi: no, the main issue was a few weasle words and unencyclopedic language creeping in (eg. "A product of the Karachi tape ball circuit, Shafiq was first noticed when he stormed the first-class scene", "
he national selectors had earmarked him as one for the future". I would recommend the current heading style as better per our Manual of style. --Mdann52talk to me! 15:55, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cristiana of Capua and Adelaide of Riedenburg
Why did you close this as a merge? All users supported the proposal for the deletion of these articles not a merge. I said "Merging should not even be an option. Both articles should be deleted and all links and mentions on related articles erased to prevent Wikipedia for proliferating false facts and original research." All three users agreed and supported this and no one suggested merging since there is basically nothing reliable that can be merged. --The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 23:26, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- @The Emperor's New Spy: I see the close has been reverted. I think I must of misread the statement, as I completely agree with you. I must of run out of caffeine or something :P --Mdann52talk to me! 05:13, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

The edit I'd done only happened because it had been confirmed by the man himself and plus I would've never edit incorrect information into an article. I would truly appreciate if you didn't remove my edit. These are not factual errors. User:Mdann52 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bubblez411 (talk • contribs) 05:24, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hyve Managed Hosting
Hi,
Would like to discuss the Speedy deletion nomination of Hyve Managed Hosting which I've just created.
How speedy is that deletion? As although I've set up the page with some very basic content - it will be shortly populated by our Marketing team and Lead Editor - Lucie Sadler.
We're a web hosting provider who have been trading for many years. Initially started by two colleagues and very quickly expanded to become the very first UK hosting partner of Vmware
We are also one of the first to use HP's 3PAR technology to shake up the way web providers charge for disk space as it uses a mix of SAS and SSD technology.
Hopefully that's enough for now, as I'd hate for it to be deleted before our editor has had a chance to populate it properly.
Thanks
Nick
Nickhyve (talk) 12:33, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Nickhyve: I suspect deletion may take a while, as no admins currently appear to be active. You may, however, add {{hangon}} to the page if you intend to improve it. I would note that, in it's current form, it fails our guidelines for notability (WP:NCORP), and requires more reliable sources (eg. independent news articles) to show notability. Finally, I would like to note that, if you are editing the page while you are being paid by the company in question then, per our ToC's (wmf:Terms_of_Use#4._Refraining_from_Certain_Activities), you should declare this on your user page. More information on this is avalible at WP:PSCOI. Please let me know if I can help furthur. --Mdann52talk to me! 12:41, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks User:Mdann52 I've added the hangon section, updated my profile and have asked Marketing to update Asap. Nick — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nickhyve (talk • contribs) 12:55, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I do believe it is not constructive.
I feel that the removal of the characters and actors, that I added purposely because they were not listed, I posted in The Guiding Light (1960 - 1969) is not constructive, because you are not giving actors and actresses their credits for work they did in the industry on this show.
I will be deleting, shortly, a few of the descriptive lines about the characters and include them in the plot development section instead, but they should be in the list of characters and the actors and actresses who played them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petjbr03 (talk • contribs) 14:21, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

My article Ayyan (model, singer, producer, actress) was deleted
Hello, Mdann52. My article Ayyan (model, singer, producer, actress) was deleted because another page Ayyan (model) has information about the same artist. I made my page, because the old one, Ayyan (model), is not grammatically correct and does not have the latest updated on her career, nor a recent photo, and I believe that an internationally known person like Ayyan should have a page that would give accurate information on her. I tried to edit the old one, but my edits are deleted immediately after they are made. What can I do about undeleting my page? Thank you!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jules.mirique (talk • contribs) 09:48, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
- The issue is that your sources appear to be unreliable. Additionally, the tone of the entry was not ideal; All articles should be from a neutral point of view. --Mdann52talk to me! 11:31, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Talk:Babymetal#Disruptive edits by SilentDan297 discussion
Apologies for bothering you but you have yet to reply to me on the dispute discussion concerning the Babymetal article. The infobox genre's where no problem at all, it's the Record Labels that are the primary concern in this section. Other issues have been discussed and are also awaiting consensus, including the discography and previously the members section which has since been resolved. Hope to hear from you again soon and again apologies for bothering you. SilentDan (talk) 22:21, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- @SilentDan297: Apologies for forgetting about it - recently, RL has been rather hectic. Unfortunately, I will be going away for a few days, and will have very little interenet, so if I reopen the discussion, it will likely be closed again by the time I get back. Sorry about this. --Mdann52talk to me! 05:28, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Concerning Aspect-oriented_software_development
User:Mdann52 Hi, I see you overwrote my edits to the page above almost immediately. As what I wrote is factually correct, could you please advise on a suitable wording to satisfy the neutrality guidelines? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Playtime222 (talk • contribs) 15:27, 15 August 2014 (UTC) #
- @Playtime222: Wikipedia is not here to promote a product. We do not namedrop certain products in articles just because they do a certain task. --Mdann52talk to me! 15:32, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Mdann52: OK, I understand that concern. On Unity as aspect-oriented, the two points I was making was a) the decorator pattern isn't specifically aspect-orientated which is what Unity interception is doing b) Unity is only resolving the dependencies here and providing a proxy - any dependency injection container library can do this e.g. MEF, Castle. 'Aspect-Oriented concepts' is misleading.
- As for PostSharp, I discovered this about a year ago and it fits the bill for full aspect-orientation - it has a point-cut language, a weaver, etc - so it does enable the adoption of aspect-orientated development on .NET. I didn't mean to come across as a sales pitch but I can see what you mean :-/ Other commercial products are mentioned in this section WAS, TopLink etc... would a better wording be something like - Postsharp is a commercial post-compiler that supports aspect-oriented development in .NET ?

DRN volunterring
Hello. I have recently added myself to the volunteer list at DRN and wish to participate in dispute resolutions. I wish to start with the case Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard#Current disputes#user talk:Thomas.W, which borderlines user conduct issues but also involves adequate conduct (in my opinion) to attempt a resolution. However, since I'm new to dispute resolutions, I was wondering whether you can guide me in opening and maintaining the case. In the case that you were willing, I was going to start with a warning to only discuss content, not user conduct, and ask both users to cite policy or guidelines for their respective sides. KJ Discuss? 04:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Kkj11210: Yea, that's a good start. In my opening statement, I try and double check the loci of the dispute. Once it is clear, I try and discuss the sources/wording/whatever, and try and reach common ground. I then propose a solution, based on the evidence given. The closing process can be a bit fiddly, but we'll cross that bridge when you get there :). --Mdann52talk to me! 05:40, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, and if the conversation starts to turn towards user conduct, then it may be worth closing it early. --Mdann52talk to me!<

Letter to the foundation
The the math project page is not only a place for discussing math content/math articles as such, but it is also a place to discuss (within reason) that are other subjects of interest or concern to the WP math editors/math community. WP:Canvass is not designed to block information, but to black selective (mass) targetting, spamming or campaign, which is clearly not the case here.--Kmhkmh (talk) 12:25, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

external links
Thank you for your edit to Samuel Bolton Colburn. I was unsure about what an appropriate external link should be. Also, I'm trying to address the note on this entry saying that this article has multiple issues. One of the issues being that it is an Orphan and is not linked. How do I resolve the issues mentioned and get this tag removed?
Sorry, I'm pretty new to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Susan M Anderson (talk • contribs)
- @Susan M Anderson: no problem! The problem with the links you used is that you used links to external sites in the text of the article; I didn't judge the links, only where they were located (I could of been clearer). The correct place to put them would be with an == External links== heading at the end of the article. I have removed the refimprove tag, but as for the other issue, you just need to link another article to the page. --Mdann52talk to me! 07:29, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Metamodernism talk page
Hi, I see you recently deleted several discussions, including subsections, from Talk:Metamodernism. A fair bit of the initial material in calming things down was present in the deleted material, including some in the one you asked not to be reinstated. It seems to me that this positive material should in due course be archived rather than summarily deleted. I do not appear to have access to the "email" link you gave in one edit comment, so I have no way of understanding your reasons. Also, your other comments cited WP:OUT. It is not clear to me that this essay relates to talk pages rather than content. So I am wondering if you could explain why you deleted so much material, and why you blanket-deleted the constructive material along with the bad? — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 15:26, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I am curious too. We only delete talk page material in exceptional circumstances. What is the cause of this? Thanks, --Mark viking (talk) 16:12, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Even if this was 'water over the dam', it should then have been archived, not deleted. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 16:37, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Steelpillow and Mark viking: the link was wrong.... WP:DOX is the correct one. This was done in line with this in mind; I know this is in relation to AfD, but you get the idea. I am provented from giving too many details away publicly, so can say little else. However, I will leave a note in the history noting the incorrect link.--Mdann52talk to me! 17:17, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- OK, I take your point. Thank you for clarifying. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 19:07, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- This makes more sense. It is unfortunate that we will lose useful discussion, but I understand the need. Thanks for clarifying your actions. --Mark viking (talk) 19:45, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Mark viking: the discussion is still accessible in the page history; As some of it is useful, I'm not going to get it revdelled. --Mdann52talk to me! 19:49, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Zoho Office Suite
Hi.
You are online? Good. Unless you have disabled your notification system, you must have by now realized that your changes to Zoho Office Suite is reverted. As I said in my edit summary, I do see some peacock terms but the violation is not so severe as to merit such a large-scale deletion.
Of course, per WP:BRD, you are entitled to have an audit trial on the article talk page. Should I start one?
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 20:48, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Codename Lisa: I'm kinda online (I'm on mobile ATM), but I'll be honest; Reviewing the edit, I was a bit heavy handed. I'll take another look tomorrow, once I've got some sleep. --Mdann52talk to me! 20:50, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Per your edit note
here, I am contacting you. I believe the edits I made comply with BLP very stringently and I would be very open to discussing how others might think differently. An editor claiming to be the subject of the article (may be or may not be) has been on the Talk page, POV-pushing, and my rationale is laid out there. Jytdog (talk) 13:25, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- I just made this edit, in which I removed unsourced statements, which we should not have in a BLP article. I also removed the POV tag and refimprove tags, since everything that is there is sourced. I did not add anything. I left the notability tag. Jytdog (talk) 13:36, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- And I just made this edit, removing categories for which we have no support, again under WP:BLP. We should say nothing without support. Jytdog (talk) 13:46, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jytdog: I didn't realise the material was unsourced; He verified the unsourced bits. I've found a source to verify it; Not the best, but it'll do. --Mdann52talk to me! 16:28, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- i'm sorry, but that source does not do - it fails WP:INDY. especially on a contested BLP article we need to reach for great sources and keep standards high; if we start allowing low quality sources then we have no justification for keeping negative information out, either. so i reverted, with apologies. Jytdog (talk) 16:50, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jytdog: This seems appropriate per WP:BLPSELFPUB, however my interpretation of it may not be ideal, so feel free to review it. --Mdann52talk to me! 17:24, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- i find it uncollegial that you have parachuted into the article and are not dealing with the extensive conversations that have happened on talk, not participating in those discussions, and are leaving pretty high-handed edit notes. I am walking away from the article and your talk page. i regret having wasted my time trying to improve it. Jytdog (talk) 18:12, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- frustrated, but decided to stick with it. please Talk, on the Talk page. Jytdog (talk) 00:36, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
