Closure of COI edit request

Information icon Hi, I saw that you closed 2 COI edit request here and there. I've partially overriden your closure on the 2nd one. The thing is, wouldn't you think it would be good if you explained to them why you closed the request that way? Leaving them hanging there without details but the {{request edit|D|ADV}} wouldn't do much don't you think? Here what you should do. Instead of only giving feedback just via the template, what if you in addition, ping the COI user and reply back on why you declined in detail.     • WikidataTrust.jsP updates the interface with the contributors to each statement, label, description and sitelink. It is similar to the “blame” tool on text-based wikis.
  • Development
    • In the query service, variable names with non-“Latin” characters (e. g. ?fiancé, ?π) can now be used more easily. (T227952)

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Tool of the week
    • wdumps allows you to create a limited RDF dump from Wikidata, for those times when your SPARQL queries keep timing out. It is not particularly user-friendly, and it typically takes several hours to get a complete dump, but it is the best way to for example get a list of all English names of humans in Wikidata, or a list of every scientific article with its title and DOI.
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • The former WikiProject iNaturalist was renamed WikiProject Biodiversity to allow discussions beyond iNaturalist.
    • Special:FewestRevisions to be disabled, if you are currently using it, please leave a comment
    • Winners of the Wikidata competition during Museum Day 2020: VIGNERON, Alexmar983, Braveheart, Pasleim, Benoît Prieur, Uli.ch, Nono314, Sukkoria and Airon90. Congratulations!
    • As part of a thesis project, the search engine "Lister" has been developed to make it easier for the general public to access data on the Semantic Web in general, and WikiData specifically. It's in a usability test-phase right now, and if you'd like to try it out and help improve it, you can do so at this link. The test should at most 15 minutes.
    • Follow the discussion about restricting editing of properties to autoconfirmed users.
    • New domain toolforge.org to be adopted by our Toolforge community. New domain/scheme for Toolforge-hosted webservices will change from tools.wmflabs.org/toolname to toolname.toolforge.org with the aim to introduce permanent redirects for the legacy URLs on 2020-06-15.
    • Wikidata development team is currently running a survey until June 9th to understand better how people access and reuse Wikidata’s data from the code of their applications and tools (for example through APIs), and how we can improve the tools to make your workflows easier. If you would like to participate, please use this link (Google Forms, estimated fill-in time 5min).
  • Development
    • More documentation for federated properties

Hi Mdaniels5757, I have added a link to a free online service into the /* Software/libraries */ which is similar to what is already on the page: (for instance https://lettier.com/projects/lda-topic-modeling/) The difference in my link is that it delivers the result of Topic Modelling (TopicMap) a different format (A visual map). This should be a new insightful information to the readers as to how the Topic Modelling can be visually represented. So kindly requesting you to review your decision to remove my addition as it actually adds to the knowledge base. I do have some concerns about A View to a Kill.

I see that the paragraph you removed does match text at this IMDB site

However when I search that site in the Internet archive, the version after his edit: IA Nov 2007

reFill

Hi, I notice you use reFill, which is a very useful toll. However, it hasn't been updated since |dead-url= was superseded by |url-status= so causes error messages to be thrown when archived urls are filled, such as here. Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies

Hello Mdaniels5757, I saw that you responded to a request at the Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies. Unfortunately, only "verified" users may respond to such requests, though your response in this case seemed completely fine and reasonable. I have currently responded to a few requests, but left them open until a verified admin could review them, who will determine whether I should be a verified user. Template editor granted

Your account has been granted the "templateeditor" user permission, allowing you to edit templates and modules that have been protected with template protection. It also allows you to bypass the title blacklist, giving you the ability to create and edit editnotices. Nmap

W.r.t. your investigation of 45.83.40.14, I assume that you used Nmap (based on your comments). Note that Nmap is considered invasive, and though publicly accessible (unlike other tools), should be used rarely. Also, Nmap port scanning is illegal in some jurisdictions, so it may get you in legal trouble as well. --MrClog (talk) 20:35, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Re Spam Blacklist Request

Hello. Why did you reverted my edits from Anime News Network? Why? Because is the true? Anyway i proceed to blacklist the url animenewsnetwork.com on spam blacklist because is spammy that user. @Sareville: Hi. I reverted one edit of yours for a couple of reasons: it gave incorrect information (ANN was not blacklisted, you requested that an admin do it), it says without citing evidence that the site "is not a reliable source", and it says "page closed for violation" when it was not, and all of this was in a section header, where it did not belong. You can check all anime pages Naruto, Anime, Dragon Ball and many other pages with anime subject there are more than 10 links on every page which is go to animenewsnetwork.com And of course i requested to an admin to block on english wikipedia this url animenewsnetwork.com How to be reliable? @Sareville: OK. I don't know whether it's a reliable source or not. However, even if it is unreliable, and even if it should be blacklisted, this was still not an appropriate edit to their Wikipedia article.

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Tool of the week
    • QuickStatements lets you edit thousands of Wikidata items at a time. Add labels and descriptions, or statements with sources and qualifiers, add sitelinks, create or merge items, or remove statements that were created in error. Batches can be discussed and, if necessary, reverted in full through the EditGroups tool.
  • Development
    • Wikidata Bridge: Made a number of technical improvements to wrap up the work in the first version.
    • Reference Hunt: Making final technical improvements and are now running the process to find references on the whole of Wikidata (as opposed to the initial small subset for testing). Once that's done we'll release them as a dump.
    • Easier access to data for programmers: Researching and interviewing ways to improve the APIs in preparation for working on them.
    • Query builder: Working on defining the first version and creating mockups based on the feedback we received.
    • Use modern TypeScript syntax (3.2 -> 3.9) (phab:T253211)
    • More technical documentation for Federated Properties (phab:T252991) & preparing for the next steps
    • Convert some properties to external identifiers (phab:T253722)

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Tool of the week
    • Mix'n'match lets you match lists of external identifiers to Wikidata items, or create new items if necessary. Thousands of catalogs already exist, in dozens of different topic areas, and it's easy to import new ones.
  • Development
    • Collecting a lot of feedback and doing research around how to improve our APIs to start making it easier to access Wikidata's data for programmers
    • Finalized the initial feature list for the query builder and working on designs and prototypes for testing
    • Doing user research on the Merge gadget to prepare for making it part of the proper code-base so that other Wikibase instances also benefit from easier merging
    • Federated Properties: continued working on the first version of Federation that will make it possible to use Wikidata's Properties in another Wikibase installation
    • Start of a new project (Wikibase Decoupling & Extension Registration) in order to clean up our codebase a bit and make it easier to extend with new features in the future
    • More work on the design system to have a set of unified components for Wikidata that will make it easier to develop new features in the future because we don't have to rewrite components that are used in a lot of places
    • Some MediaWiki skin changes meant broken edit links on Wikipedia and co. Fixed now. (phabricator:T252800)

@1989: Looks like that does some signature minimisation that messes it up. It may work if you disable that feature by adding the following before importing the script: 
window.kephirUnclutter = {
	signaturesProcess           : false,
	signaturesMinimise          : false,
	signaturesColourise         : false,
};
One or more of these lines may be able to be removed, but I don't know which. I'll add this incompatibility to the documentation. --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 17:05, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
Keep in mind your script works with them, it just doesn't when the page is too long. @Amorymeltzer: Would you be able to see what's wrong with the Signature minimisation? Not sure if the author is still active. 1989 (talk) 17:27, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
I found the culprit. When I use reply-link and Unclutter together, they don't work simultaneously anymore when long pages are present with the markAdmins script. In fact, I reported an issue to User:Enterprisey about reply-link not working when using Unclutter, and I can see that has not been resolved yet. 1989 (talk) 16:27, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Open Proxies Project

So I actually didn't know that was a thing until today - neat project. If you don't mind me asking, what tools did you use to determine that the one IP was a zombie proxy? GeneralNotability (talk) 01:38, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

@GeneralNotability: Yeah, it's useful (especially for some ACC -related issues). That IP was a pretty easy one to confirm as a proxy: I saw the port number in the block log (8080), opened up another browser, changed my proxy settings to connect to 124.105.197.141:8080, and found that it worked. I got the {{zombie proxy}} thing from the fact that MikroTik routers have a widespread security vulnerability that makes it easy for attackers to turn them into open proxies, and when I put http://124.105.197.141 into my browser it says that it is, in fact, a mikrotik router (although the version number makes it should imply that the specific vulnerability I was thinking of when writing it was fixed, there have been others since, and I think it is possible that the router could be lying). Connecting to a proxy is really the only way to confirm it definitely, but you can also get close to confirmation with things like WHOIS records. Group editnotice seems not to be working

Heyo, hope you're well - and thanks for handling a couple of my editnotices recently! Appreciate it

The one you just sorted for me, Template:Editnotices/Group/User:Yapperbot/kill, seems not to be working, weirdly - I thought I'd drop you a message to see if it was something obvious before taking it to VPT if it's not. If you take a look at the edit page for a subpage, for instance, you can see pretty clearly that there's no editnotice of the sort there.

Any ideas what's happening? It's not just that page, it's any subpage - I've tried creating the root page and purging the cache, to no avail.

    • It is now possible to search for EntitySchema pages using a shortcut “E:”, similar to “P:” for Properties and “L:” for Lexemes. For example: E:E10 or E:kakapo. T245529
    • Continued working on the first version of Federation, which will allow other Wikibase installations to use Wikidata's Properties - getting closer to a first testable version
    • More work on consistency of user interface components
    • Finalizing the click-dummy for the first version of the Query Builder so we can start testing it with some editors soon and get feedback.
    • Continuing to investigate how to improve our APIs and other ways to improve access to the data in Wikidata for programmers
    • Discussed the future of the Wikidata Query Service and ideas for next steps we can take to make it scale better. Guillaume will join the next office hour to talk about it.
    • More work on clearer separation of Wikibase repository and Wikibase client code in order to improve maintainability
