Hispanic and Latino Americans

I'll repeat two simple words that I frequently use when I talk to you (get used to them): Thank you.
It's quite inspiring to read about these people. I'm a bit angry with myself for not mentioning Hispanic Heritage Month before.
BTW, I left a message on the article's talk page yesterday. You don't have to respond; I just wanted to let you know what was going on re: the infobox.
All the best! SamEV (talk) 20:45, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Puerto Rican Campaign

Hello, Tony the Marine. Nice to see you. I participated in the talk of that specific article. I put there my humble opinion although the section I did looks bad (no se ve en orden con lo de arriba) despite I tried to fix it. I am writing all the time but for profit, hehe. Have a wonderful night. Your 'hermano', Pedro~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 00:39, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Con mucho gusto participaré. Have a wonderful day. ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 09:44, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Mi hermano, nice job with the article and digging out the history. I added a sentence about the notable visitors. I never visited los baños, it looks like a nice place to stay one night in my next visit to the island. By the way, I think you should check Battle of Puerto Rico, do you think the naming is right? I thought that this was only a frustrated attack by Drake. --Jmundo 23:46, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Bea Arthur

Tony, I watched the beginning of the interview. The interviewer asked (5:17) "How did World War II affect you?" Here answer was "like everyone else....traumatic". Then, (5:31) "I had read somewhere that you joined the Marines." In the chronology she was discussing WWII and then 1947. BA's answer was "oh no". Hmm. But here[1] and here Official Marine Corps Magazine, it says she was a Marine, and the first one says it was prior to WWII. At this point, the Marine Corps Magazine is a reference in the List and a reliable source. I wish the interviewer had asked a followup question or that BA had elaborated. Without further info, I'd leave it in. — ERcheck (talk) 03:39, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Added my comments to the list talk page. — ERcheck (talk) 00:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Some planned moves

I've been slightly irritated by some of the haphazard naming conventions used for a year or so, and I'm thinking that I might work my way through Category:United States Marine Corps and change all instances of "U.S. Marine Corps" to "United States Marine Corps" for article titles. I'm big on consistancy, especially since I have a hard time remembering which version to type in to get to a specific article (for example, in trying to reach List of U.S. Marines‎, I always goof and type "List of United States Marines" into the search bar). Can you think of any reason why I shouldn't perform these moves? bahamut0013wordsdeeds 05:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

OK. Yeah, I did forget that I might have to deal with the fact that some of those pages are already redirects... Is there a template tag for that kind of thing? bahamut0013wordsdeeds 04:44, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Semper Fidelis, Tony! I'm just glad that something came out of it besides making a couple of tough guys (that would be you and me) cry. I know you have my stateside email address, but I will send have sent you another email with my deployed one. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 08:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Got the first admin move for you: USMC War Memorial should be Marine Corps War Memorial, but the latter is currently a redirect to the former. In this case, the "United States" prefix is not part of the formal name according to the National Park Service. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 17:11, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Another one: 2nd Battalion 9th Marines redirects to 2nd Battalion 9th Marines (United States). It is the ONLY Marine battalion I know that has the "(United States)" disambig tag added, despite the moving editor's claim. I find it unlikely that any other nation will grow thier Marines to include so many regiments that disambiguation is necessary. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 17:54, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

re:Utuado Uprising

Another painful chapter that is not part of our official history. Your article hit a nerve, it reminds me of this, I hope he came to term with his past. --Jmundo 15:52, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't think that Muñoz ever got over turning his back on the independence movement, even after the ELA got established he was still an autonomist in essence, Truman taking over was virtually a dictature, which is something that I'm sure he wasn't particularly happy of taking part in. I have read that Albizu Campos received some serious torture while in jail, including some sort of radioactive assaults. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:21, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the series, these article are necessary to clear up many misconceptions as a result of many years of repression. --Jmundo 04:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I remember that my grandfather who was a barbero in Ponce used to tell me the story about Santiago Vidal, so I called him today, he still remembers the live radio transmission. He says that Santiago Vidal did receive "un tiro en la cabeza" but he didn't die, he was arrested, and was given a pardon by Muñoz Marin. I did a quick search and I found two websites with that version, but I don't have access to books about the incident, [2], [3]. He also says that Vidal became Muñoz Marin personal barber, I know this sounds too far-fetched, but you never know :) --Jmundo 21:49, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Se lo va gozar cuando le diga lo que me contaste because my grandpa is "de los de Ferre", but he has a great deal of respect and admiration for "Don Albizu" and the Nacionalistas. --Jmundo 23:27, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm a bit confused as to why you did [4] and protected the page. --Rschen7754 (T C) 06:43, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Tell you what Rschen7754, even I was surprised. I had no idea about what happened until I found out that in a short moment that I went to my daughters house, my son (User:AntonioMartin) used the computer and protected that page, doing so under my name without telling me! Man, did I get mad at him and straighten him out after you told me. I unprotected the page, Thank you for telling me. Tony the Marine (talk) 07:03, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

expeditionary strike groups vs amphibious ready groups

I just read this in the Marine Corps Times, and thought of you, since I know you put a lot of editing into the amphibious ready group and expeditionary strike group articles. Since the MCTime's website restricts most of its content to subscribers, I'll copy and paste it.

Seems the old ways come again. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 16:18, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed your recent edits on La La (entertainer), and tried to find where in WP:BLP it stated that citations were not needed for birthdates? I am newer than you are to Wikipedia, so it would be great if you could let me know where to find this in the WP:MOS or wherever. Thanks for your help. Plastikspork (talk) 01:12, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter Issue XXXVIII (April 2009)
From the coordinators

Once again, this month, we have a bumper crop of featured and A-class content, and our heartfelt thanks go to editors who have worked so hard to write these. But with our growth in quality content comes increased demand for reviewers. Which is where you can help.

Reviewing is easy and rewarding. You don't need any prior experience and you don't need to write a full review. Any input is helpful so you initially can just comment on what you're comfortable with. Most reviewers start off by focusing one or two things – say, the historical context, or the text, or the references, or the layout, or the images – and as they gain experience, they broaden the scope of the review. You can easily keep up to date with which articles need review, by copying this text – {{WPMILHIST Review alerts}} – to your userpage or talkpage. Thanks in anticipation,  Roger Davies

Hey Tony, this article is currently on hold. The reviewer has stated that she notices some grammar issues, yet besides the ones mentioned in the review I'm not finding any, it must be writer's block or something. Can you please take a look at the review? I need someone with a better aye than me for this one. In the meanwhile, I will take the images and create the detailed rationales provided in her example. Regards, - Caribbean~H.Q. 14:51, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, otro "pal saco". After this one, I think we should take some time to tackle Puerto Rican migration to New York. Individually, my next project will be Raúl Juliá. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Ferré's nomination was failed on C3, mostly because the reviewer wanted the use of "more books". Interestingly, the third criterion on which it was failed has nothing to do with references, that would be C2. I found that level of scrutiny quite amusing as well as annoying, this is why the GAC process should be revised to something similar to FAC, based on consensus from multiple users. Yet, even if we don't nominate the article, we could bring it to the standard that has distinguished our latest works. Regards, - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with you, but it may not be worth the trouble. The reason for failing seems kind of ridiculous to me, I prefer to re-nominate and allow a different reviewer to give us a different perspective. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:55, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok. This is my final exam week, so the re-nom will have to wait at least until Thursday. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:53, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I just re-nominated, lets see how it goes this time. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:01, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Interestingly, my intuition kicked in as soon as I read his last name and Teófilo came to my mind instantly. I may publish another biography this week, but that depends on the outcome of the XII Torneo Internacional José 'Cheo' Aponte. Out of curiosity, how common is it to see an officer that has received awards or decorations from more than one country? - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:47, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I see, its ironic how even those that discriminated could not deny the quality of our countrymen. - Caribbean~H.Q. 17:54, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
The second nomination wasn't failed, the reviewer just decided to talk some smack. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:11, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Admin question

I have a question for you. I've had a few dealings with a particular editor, who has proven to be disruptive and blocked for it a few times. I believe he is editing anonymously with more than one IP address (Special:Contributions/69.204.225.103 and Special:Contributions/65.215.94.13 jump out at me) to help cover his tracks. I've seen contribs in many of the same articles and areas of interest (to include a few identical edits), as well as similar wording of talk page discussion and edit summaries (such as threats of reporting anyone who disagrees for "vandalism" and a wildly misinterpreting policy in his favor). What would be the course of action for this? I'm not sure this is sockpuppetry because he's only using one registered account, but surely he is maliciously trying to spread his contribs around more than one identity to avoid notice. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 06:00, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

It probably won't pass, but I sure could use your feedback. — BQZip01 — talk 03:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

A question regarding an entry on List of Puerto Ricans

Hello! I hope I am not bothering you, but I wanted to get your input about an entry on List of Puerto Ricans. In the Religion section, there is a redlink citation for Sister Maria Dominguez, who is listed as being beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2004. I wanted to fill in the redlink, but it appears there might be an error. According to List of people beatified by Pope John Paul II, Sister Maria Dominguez was not listed among those beatified by the late pontiff in 2004. There are three nuns named Maria who were beatified, but none were from Puerto Rico. The only outside mention I can find of Sister Maria Dominguez is one sentence in an article in this outlet: [5]. I am contacting you, as you appear to be most active editor on List of Puerto Ricans, whether it would be okay to remove the listing for Sister Maria Dominguez or, if your schedule allows, whether you can confirm her biography and her status within the church. Thank you very much. Pastor Theo (talk) 00:58, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hispanic and Latino Americans article

Hey I am planning a major overhaul of the Hispanic and Latino Americans article. For far too long it has been plagued with POV pushers going in there to push their agenda with no one actually going in there to try and add content. I like what you have done with other articles and IIRC I believe you have significantly contributed to FA status articles. Well if you have the time I would love to have you work on the article or at least give some opinions on the talk page about how it can be improved. Thanks.--Jersey Devil (talk) 14:20, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey Tony thanks for the comment on my talk page. Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you but I've been very busy as of late. Yeah I think the idea of collaboration by means of everyone working on specific sections of interest would be great. In particular the Demographics, Politics and Media sections interest me and I would essentially end up using a lot of Pew Hispanic Center data for most of it (their research is really the best publicly available stuff out there).
With regards to the troubles with problem users on that article I really think those people represent a very small fringe minority out on the web. A good deal of them seem to be these Mexica Movement types who think of themselves as indians rather than latinos or hispanics (they are a fringe group in the mexican american community). They basically operate like 9/11 truthers do on the internet. A very small but very vocal and aggressive group that will use disruption and edit warring to make sure their POV is stated in these types of articles. The biggest problem with this seems to be the systematic bias of wikipedia's lack of latino regulars so that when these fringe things are put on some users who aren't that knowledgeable about the community don't know that it is fringe stuff. It becomes really annoying to deal with at times.
Another group of editors out there that have some disagreements with the article are these users that think the title itself is "U.S.-centric". They argue that say someone living right now in Venezuela is a "Latino American" because they are latino and they live in the americas. But that ignores the fact that on wikipedia we are suppose to go with terminology that is most widely/popularly used not what is EXACTLY grammatically correct. For instance I had made the argument to someone, who objected to this term because of the aforementioned reason, that one could easily make the same argument about the term "African-American" because the vast majority of U.S. blacks are not born in Africa and furthermore there are other groups of people on the American continent with Africa roots not just American blacks (ex. Afro-Colombians, Afro-Brazilians, etc...). But despite this the "incorrect" term African-American is still used because everyone knows what group it is suppose to refer to and it is popularly used. The case is similar for hispanics/latinos in the United States.
Anyway I have to say I am surprised to hear that Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba objected to the term "hispanic". I grew up in a heavily hispanic immigrant neighborhood in Newark and never have I heard anyone object to either the term latino or hispanic. The only times I have heard of this is by fringe groups on the internet like the Mexica movement.--Jersey Devil (talk) 23:15, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Unfortunately, my RFA was closed recently with a final tally of 75½/38/10. Though it didn't succeed, I wanted to thank you for your support and I hope I can count on it in the future. Even though it didn't pass, it had a nearly 2 to 1 ratio of support and I am quite encouraged by those results. I intend to review the support, oppose, and neutral !votes and see what I can do to address those concerns that were brought up and resubmit in a few months. If you would like to assist in my betterment and/or co-nominate me in the future, please let me know on my talk page. Special thanks go to Schmidt, MICHAEL Q., TomStar81, and henrik for their co-nominations and support. — BQZip01 — talk

Please accept my dearest apology and unhumble complaint

Sorry, I had no intention of stealing your work. I was merely trying to create a page with info out of the Puerto Rican Campaign page. As you know someone created a campaign box with the engagements of the Puerto Rican Campaign. It was stupid and useless to make such a template if you are just taken back to the campaign page itself.

Again I apologize for unintentionally taking your work. However at no time did I try to take credit for it. like I said I was just trying to create a page about the battles.

By the way, [[Fourth Battle of San Juan (1898) does not make any sense. I know it was you who changed the name of the page. I read your reason for changing it and found your reason was entirely false. Battles of San Juan occurred in 1595, 1598, 1625 or 27 (Off the top of my head), 1797 and 1898. By no means can the Battle of San Juan (1898) be considered the fourth battle. You made this change without doing proper research. If you look on the History of Puerto Rico page you will find what I am saying to be true. I am smart enough to have found you come from Puerto Rico. However, this does not give you the right to change history whenever you like. Even if you come from the island of topic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TJ13090 (talkcontribs) 03:34, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

In 1585, war broke out between England and Spain. The Anglo-Spanish War was not limited to Europe—extending to Spanish and English territories in the Americas. On November 22, 1595, Sir Francis Drake, the vice-admiral in command of the Royal Navy that overcame the Spanish Armada, and Sir John Hawkins attempted an invasion of the island with 26 vessels. Unable to take the island, Drake set San Juan on fire. In 1596, Drake died of dysentery after another unsuccessful attack on San Juan.[7] On June 15, 1598, the British fleet, led by George Clifford, landed in Santurce and held the island for several months. He was forced to abandon the island upon an outbreak of bacillary dysentery among his troops. In 1599, 400 additional soldiers and 46 cannons were sent to the island along with a new governor, Alonso de Mercado, to rebuild the city.[8]

Please dont freak out cause I copied and pasted this. Up above it clearly states an attack on Puerto Rico in 1598. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TJ13090 (talkcontribs) 03:51, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

First, a follow up to PFC Sanchez: http://www.marines.mil/units/hqmc/Pages/RepatriationservicehonorssixVietnamWarcasualties.aspx

No, that was taken care of at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dryamaka/Archive. I was referring to the admin moves for page names? You told me to let you know of any that I couldn't move due to a page existing at the target. In the #Some planned moves section? I suppose you must have missed it at some point... you are so popular that your talk page gets updated quite frequently!
And I must thank you for putting me on your Wall of Honor. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 05:04, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll have to look at that later; MNF-I has a web filter on our computers, and it blocked that site. Strangely, it cited that the page was in the pornography category as well as the weblog category, probably from an advertisement link or something--innocent sites get blocked like that all the time. The semi-fascist internet policies are quite frustrating sometimes; I've been blocked from www.usmc.mil a few times. Go figure. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 07:35, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Andres Mignucci

Hi Tony, hope you are well. I found some 'content' vandalism on Andres Mignucci's article this morning. These edits (3) on 22 May by an unsigned 70.45.99.221 changed dates (a 10 year shift and info on education - no reference) so it seems like vandalism. How do I undo multiple edits? At any rate it should be reverted to my edit of 15 May 2:33. Thanks. Nonza (talk) 12:14, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Andrés Mignucci

Hola Tony. Thanks for your response. As you suggested I checked in three separate biographies: www.andresmignucci.com, www.periferia.org/gente/mignucci.html and http://www.archiplanet.org/wiki/Andres_Mignucci. In all three the facts are as stated in the Wikipedia article prior to the non-registered user's edit: Andrés Mignucci Arquitectos was founded in 1988 not 1998 as edited; He coauthored Arquitectura Dominicana 1890-1930 in 1990 not 2000 as edited; and there is no mention of studying architecture at the Interamerican University in San Germán - particularly since there was no architecture program in San Germán in 1979. The pre-architecture program at the Interamericana started in the 1990's. While there is certainly no offensive material in the edit it does surprise me when someone just changes dates and facts without reference. Thanks.Nonza (talk) 02:29, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Flag of Puerto Rico

I don't have any problem with the new addition, my only concern is that by beginning with "The flag of the Commonwealth..." the article seems inaccurate, particularly because we also discuss some historical and revolutionary flags. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:59, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Your statement is correct, I have no problem with it. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:51, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Agree with the new material. I think the connection of the Lares Flag to the Puerto Rican Committee in New York is the missing link in the story. In other subject, Sonia Sotomayor, it's official! --Jmundo 14:53, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
It reads like an introduction to a feature article ;) I think we can put to rest any confusion about the flag of Puerto Rico. --Jmundo 05:26, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Medal of Honor lists

I know you don't usually get involved in Featured content reviews but I wanted to let you know that I just submitted 2 Medal of Honor lists as Featured List Candidates. The 2 I submitted where for the Philippine-American War and the Occupation of Vera Cruz. I am currently working on the Vietnam war list now and should have that one done in a few days. After that most of the rest still need a lot of articles created so it may be a little while before I get another one to FLC. My goal is to eventually get all the MOH Lits to FL status. Just wanted to let you know.--Kumioko (talk) 20:57, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

FYI. You will change your link of Joe Amato to Joe Amato (dragster driver). There are four different people of the same name now. This is under your NHRA section of famous people you have met. By the way, that picture in article is one I took of him eight years ago. Chris (talk) 23:28, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

PR Flag blue

I still don't feel satisfied that an official govt decision was ever made to declare the dark blue as the "official" color from 1952 to 1995. The sentence in the introduction is not adequately sourced in footnote 4, because the document that it refers to is also inadequately sourced. Mind you, if the CIA says it's true, don't necessarily believe it. After all, those were the guys that swore there were "Weapons of Mass Destruction" in Saddam's Iraq!  :-) Have you thought about checking this out with the Puerto Rico State Department? I believe that they're the ones in charge of dealing with these issues. Pr4ever (talk) 15:31, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! Will do. Pr4ever (talk) 23:27, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

We should know that the government will most likely adapt history depending on the party in charge, unless we get some historical documentation, their word is as good as null. Anyway, I think that the current intro establishes the context of the article quite well. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Ada Perkins

Hey Tony, thanks so much for rewriting that sentence with the info I added. It just didn't look right to me, now it does. I found the info on her parents on an on-line ancestry page and verified it with my dad. More info on Ada that I gathered up if you wish to add: Oswald Evan Perkins was an attorney in San Juan. He was half Scots-Irish. Her mother Ada Maria was from Ponce and the Flores family was very well known in that city. Her younger siblings are Oswald Evan Perkins (an attorney like the father) and her younger sister is Adole Perkins. She went to high school with Maria Celeste Arraras. They shared the evening at a San Juan club in 1980 on the night that the car accident took her life. Her first runner up in the Miss Puerto Rico 1978 was named Iris Regina Martinez and was Srta. Lajas 1978. She was very beautiful and with her brown hair & eyes appeared like the typical boricua more than Ada Perkins. The local papers wrote about how Ada's natural ash-blond hair and hazel-green eyes did not represent an everyday Latin girl but noted that it was a beauty pageant and the most beautiful girl and the one that best answered the final question won. Eventhough the young lady that won the year before in the Miss Puerto Rico 1977, Maria del Mar Rivera, was a blue eyed blond and other fair haired & blue or green eyed Puertoricans had also won the pageant. Most notably Enid Del Valle, Gloria Cobian, Marisol Malaret and Barbara Torres. Crcam (talk)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Crcam (talkcontribs) 04:59, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Ada Perkins

Gosh, I am trying to remember everything and all I can get from my dad who is dealing with the early stages of Alzheimer's disease so I get what I can and when I can. Oswald E. Perkins I know was an attorney who had his own firm I believe and was very successful. I don't remember the site where I found the info, I just looked up his name and it showed up. Yes, I did read the info on Carlos Velez Rieckehoff. Very nice! But my Rieckehoff brach is from Adjuntas (distant relatives to the Vieques Rieckefoffs). They just shared the name of Carlos and the same polital motives from what I understand according from my family and from what they remember. Very well writen and I feel more comfortable (as with the info on Ada Perkins) giving you the info and letting you write into it for you are a better writer. So when are you going to write something on Spanish immigration to Puerto Rico? I will provide as much info as I can but you must write it! You are so much beter at writing than I. Crcam (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crcam (talkcontribs) 05:30, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Jewish Immigration

The article on Jewish Immigraion was simply AWESOME! Very well writen, lots of interesting info, etc. And it was very well received. If you are interested on The Spanish Imigration, let me know. I have sooo much info, books, on that immigration that I believe it is important for the next generations to know about. That group was the most important and defining to our people and culture. Not to take away what the African, Corsican, French, etc. left us. But the Spanish is what left our lanuage, customes and the vast majority of what and who we are that they deserve some recognition. The Military history WikiProject Newsletter Issue XXXIX (May 2009)
From the coordinators
  • With end of year exams beckoning for many members, this has been a quiet month on the talk pages for Milhist. (If you are facing exams yourself, we all wish you the very best of luck!) During this quieter period, some of our most active reviewers are busy revising so it would be really appreciated if you can help with peer reviews or A-Class reviews. You can easily track articles needing review, by copying {{WPMILHIST Review alerts}} to your userpage.
  • This month sees our first newsletter editorial. The idea is to provide regular tips and hints to help editors get up to speed with our large (and sometimes complicated) project. This month's piece, by EyeSerene, explains the workings of the project's main template, which is at the core of the project's tagging and assessing activities.  Roger Davies talk 20:26, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Editorial: "How to use the Milhist template"

Welcome to a new occasional feature of The Bugle, where over coming issues we'll be exploring some of the roles, tasks, and technical functions that go into creating what archivist and researcher Simon Fowler has described as the best general resource for military history on the internet. As a project we can rightly be proud of that accolade, and we gratefully acknowledge the debt we owe to those dedicated editors from across Wikipedia that have helped to make the Military history WikiProject what it is today.

Many editors' first inkling of milhist's existence is when they spot our project banner on an article talk page. The banner can be easily added to appropriate articles by any editor, by typing {{WPMILHIST}} at (or near) the top of the talk page on a new line, and saving the page with an appropriate edit summary. This short form of the template will add the article to our project, and also flag the article as needing assessment and assignment to a task force by automatically adding it to the unassessed articles and articles with no associated task force categories.

As with many templates in use on Wikipedia, additional parameters can be specified. Possibly the most useful to include is the class parameter, because this will help out any editors who come along later to assess the article. To add the class parameter, edit the template markup to look like {{WPMILHIST|class=}}... and if you wish, have a read through the assessment guidance on milhists's quality scale and assign a rating from Stub- to B-Class yourself. A banner template with, for example, a Stub-Class article rating will look like {{WPMILHIST|class=stub}}. Because B-Class is assessed against a checklist it has some additional parameters, so when adding the project banner to an article talk-page, even if you don't intend to assess the article yourself it can be a real help to subsequent editors to include these too. This version of the template can be entered as {{WPMILHIST|class=|B1=|B2=|B3=|B4=|B5=}}. For detailed guidance on exactly what the five B-Class criteria are, see the B-class checklist.

Finally, when adding the milhist banner it's useful to assign the article to one (or more) of our task forces. This will help to bring it to the attention of those editors most likely to be interested in, and knowledgeable about, the subject. As with assessment, task force assignment is accomplished by adding a parameter to the template—in this case, simply the name of the task force followed by =yes (or =y). For example, to assign a Start-Class article to the Second World War and Canadian task forces, the template should read {{WPMILHIST|class=start|B1=|B2=|B3=|B4=|B5=|WWII=yes|Canadian=yes}}.

For a full list of all the banner template parameters and more detailed usage instructions, see Template:WPMILHIST; if you are unsure as to whether or not an article belongs with milhist or what task force(s) might be appropriate, or if you have any other questions, you are welcome to ask at our main project talk page. Happy templating! EyeSerenetalk

Toni

Todavia yo puedo? Me entiendes? Tu amigo =) ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 00:35, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Toni: Thanks for your reply. I will check your other site today. It's too long, hehe; I will try to find the answer of the question I did there although I don't see there a topic about it. Do you know? No creo que Wikipedia debiera ser granted to el editaje para cualquier persona, solo unos cuantos. Bueno, hablaremos alla luego. Gracias por tu consejos y tu valiosa amistad intellectual. Pedro =) ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 10:47, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

AFD

The nominator seems to be implying that there is canvassing because some of the "keep" votes are from Puerto Rican users. That is quite silly if you ask me, since our job here is to keep track of these articles. The only note left was in the project's page, which is more of a friendly notice than anything else and certainly not canvassing. For now, the AFD seems like it will reach a "non consensus" closure. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:39, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

RE: DYK Question

It's a bit odd, but there isn't really a need to take it any further - I've had a gander at the article, and it passes. It could have been a logged-out user, it could have been a nice new IP - either way, it was a good edit :). I've reviewed your article, and it seems to be fine :). While writing that article, I actually wondered why he didn't have a page, since his name is commonly mentioned in Puerto Rico. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey Tony, check it out, The Ring quoted our list in one of their articles. Cool, huh? - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:08, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

It seems that he managed to confuse a few users with his "canvassing" tomfoolery, every project has seen some articles being persistently targeted by someone, we must not be discouraged by this. On a different topic, what are your predictions for Cotto-Clottey and Calderón-Mayol? I was actually intrigued by the fact that Cotto was able to do 146 with ease, he might be anticipating a fight with Pacquiao at 145. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:41, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
That was quite an interesting piece, I will e-mail you a more detailed reply once the fight is over. Cheers, - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:18, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

List of Puerto Rican Architects

Saludos Tony! Just returned from Corsica with my family. I found that Rick Alvarez (even after my removal and your note) added himself to the Notable Architect's List still without references, this time under an unlisted IP. I can take it out again but I thought action by an administrator is warranted. I also found a note from you on my talk but can't find the note you refer to. Pace e Salute!
