Visit?

Hey, meng, I'll be visiting Tempe between 2/24 and 2/29, for a training from work. How can I brief you on the details? Demf (talk) 12:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Tony, a ton of thanks for the visit and the trip to run errands... Meeting you was one of the highlights of my trip. My wife now wants to meet you once you make your way here(!) Sorry for not getting back on time to make a farewell phone call, but I almost didn't make it to the airport... se le quiere de gratis. Saludos al tocayo y a la familia. Fair use on user subpages

Hi there. In regards to the section on the Help desk about your workshop page, I would agree that Noahcs was not particularly civil in requesting the removal of Image:WW2 Iwo Jima flag raising.jpg from the page. However, Wikipedia:User page#Images on user pages does seem pretty clear in saying that user subpages aren't allowed fair use images - even if that subpage is a draft of an article. Hence, I would ask that you remove the image and replace it with a placeholder until the article is moved to main space. Thank you, Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 01:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Ronald D. Castille

From List of U.S. Marines — are you going to write an article on Ronald D. Castille? — ERcheck (talk) 05:19, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Henry Arana

As soon as I listed Arana, I wrote a stub so that people could click his name on the List and get a short, sourced bio. Thanks for all you're doing to "stabilize" and improve the list. Pr4ever (talk) 01:28, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

You're just too fast! When I got back to reference the listing, you'd already been there! Thanks! Pr4ever (talk) 01:57, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Lt. Mercado on Hispanics in World War II

Yes, I one of his sons. I do like how you made a page for him and linked it to the Hispanics page. Thanks. -Dave Dmercado (talk) 01:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi, Tony, I have my father's Army Personal 201 Jacket with all kinds of good papers like his appointment to Lieutenant, his overseas movement orders with the 491st BG, etc. What would be a good way to get these into the page as references, etc? Dmercado (talk) 20:23, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Hola, Tony I think I understand what you want. I'll post the material to my user page and let you know. Some of the best stuff is on thin carbon copy and faded at that. I hope they scan OK. Dmercado (talk) 21:44, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

List of Puerto Ricans

Due to the hard work of ordering the List of Puerto Ricans alphabetically by last name everytime someone adds a name at the end of the list, I have started working on a "tool" to add an entry, sort the list, and then copy/paste the code back into the page. I may be trying to kill a dead horse but at least I get some practice/experience with wiki markup. When I'm completely done, I'll drop you a note. It's in real early stages, but you can monitor my work here. Best regards! ~RayLast «Talk!» 20:36, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

The best way to do that, in my opinion, is to get volunteers and assign a section to each volunteer. That way it gets much more manageable for each user and we ensure that the tedious work is not duplicated. I volunteer by the way. Let me know. ~RayLast «Talk!» 21:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I can take care of Actors, actresses, comedians and directors. When I'm done with it I'll leave you another note so that with your arbitration I can get another section no one has worked on. Note that I have a full time job and many other things to do so it might take me a while. ~RayLast «Talk!» 02:15, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
I'd be glad to help out. However, I don't consider myself an expert on any particular classification and would rather provide you my personal comments on keeping or removing names I know, but I'm open to further discussion. Pr4ever (talk) 02:31, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Do you think we should pull out a reliable verifiable source either from the subjects' articles or from google searches and explicitly put them in the list for every subject? ~RayLast «Talk!» 14:19, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Were you confusing Héctor Luis Acevedo with Gov. Acevedo Vilá when you removed him and commented that "Acevedo is already in Gov."? Héctor Luis Acevedo (1) was the first PDP mayor of San Juan to break the NPP stranglehold in 20 years (between 1968 and 1988 City Hall was controlled by statehooders), served two terms as mayor, (2) served as PDP Electoral Commissioner and arrested during the 1980 "Valencia" recount, (3) was the PDP gubernatorial candidate in 1996, (4) in addition to teaching has written several books, including the definitive work on Luis Negrón López and the recent book on Jesús T. Piñero (5) continues to be quoted in media as an electoral law expert. Pr4ever (talk) 02:37, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, President Roosevelt appointed Snyder as Associate Justice but it was Luis Muñoz Marín who appointed A. Cecilio Snyder (who repeated that name as he was sworn in!) as the first Chief Justice appointed by a Puerto Rican elected Governor. While he was not born in PR, he lived almost all his adult life in PR (and 26 of his 52 years of life), continued to practice on the island he had chosen as his home and died in PR.

I'm not sure I have the time to take on the responsibility for a whole section but I'm taking a look at the changes as they develop and agree with most of the cleanups. Pr4ever (talk) 03:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

A. Cecil Snyder

I would ask you to reconsider the deletion of Chief Justice A. Cecil Snyder. If you check his article, you will see the following source: La Justicia en sus Manos, by Luis Rafael Rivera, 2007, ISBN 1-57581-884-1. The book details the nature of his controversiality---he was forced off the court due to well-founded suspicion of actual corruption, the only Chief Justice to leave office under a cloud of controversy. That made him notable. Furthermore, he's the first Chief Justice appointed under the PR Constitution. We must remember that the listed person need not developed notability at the present time but when he was alive and active. Pr4ever (talk) 02:25, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree that Snyder was undoubtedly a notable subject. The discussion should then try to clarify whether he should be considered Puerto Rican or not; notability is not debated in this case. I have a somewhat divided opinion myself. Snyder is definitely an American lawyer appointed Chief Justice of Puerto Rico. He is not a born Puerto Rican or from Puerto Rican descent but rather went to work at the island. I am not inclined to think that I should be considered Chinese if I was assigned to work in China. Resident Comissioners, for example, should keep their nationality intact, in my opinion. Then again, some may claim that living an extended amount of time in a country has an effect on their nationality. In either case, I do not think there is enough or substantial evidence that Snyder personally adopted the Puerto Rican nationality, even if he did. Being sworn in as "Cecilio" may only have been inspired simply by nature of the Spanish language being spoken in Puerto Rico. It does not necessarily indicate his adoption of the nationality. His inclusion in this list, if considered, should only be based on his extended residency in Puerto Rico, and not on his job position or place of death. We still need a consensus on this. I would like to see additional comments before I can make up my own mind. ~RayLast «Talk!» 04:21, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Contrary to many local functionaries appointed by the President prior to 1952, including Governors, Snyder chose to remain for the rest of his life in Puerto Rico. For example, while Gov. and UPR Chancellor Rexford G. Tugwell went back to the states and died on the mainland, Snyder, after serving in a Presidentially-appointed position, was appointed by Puerto Rico first elective Governor to another position. After he left that position, he chose to remain in PR and died on the island after living half of his life (26 of 52 years) and 80% (26 of 31 years) of his adult life on the island. Famed Dr. MacDowell, for example, came to work to PR, became the island's only notable meteorologist at the time, married a Puerto Rican, made his home in Puerto Rico and died in PR. We should be able to differentiate between notable "gringos" who choose to make Puerto Rico their permanent home from those who come in, do their job, and go "back home" somewhere else, just as we are flexible to include notables with some Puerto Rican blood who have never set foot on the island. Pr4ever (talk) 23:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Pr4ever (talk) 02:17, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Raul Villalonga article---I'd be grateful for all the improvements you may make to it. By the way, I believe he's now the former mayor of Killeen, which doesn't take away from his notability. I guess it's not easy for a boricua to get elected mayor of a city in Texas, not exactly the most liberal state! Pr4ever (talk) 02:58, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Greetings, Tony -- I noticed you had worked on the Charlie Palmieri article, so I wanted to drop you a line that I had created a stub article for the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, which hosts the annual Charlie Palmieri Memorial Piano Scholarship competition. Nationality vs Ethnicity in lead sentence of bios

Hi Marine 69-71, has any concensus been reached on how to label nationality for Americans born in the States who are of Puerto Rican descent? It seems that per WP:MOSBIO, calling them American is sufficient for the lead sentence unless their ethnicity is the reason for their noteability. Thank you. --70.109.223.188 (talk) 17:27, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tony

I had quite a bit of work to do, that's why I was away :) Just came back to tweak a few things here and there on the article. By the way, has anyone found out yet if Joaquin has Hispanic heritage? Hope you're doing well! --Mimi C. (talk) 16:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Many thanks for this! It was and still is my pleasure. ~RayLast «Talk!» 20:33, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

It looks like a great article, but I would comb through it for little things like, "He said [19]". The reference should be after the full stop (period in USA). This was the first thing I saw. Thanks for asking, and I wish you the best. I will look at it more tomorrow...--andreasegde (talk) 23:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Strange, I can’t find it now either. Maybe someone corrected it. Anyway, I’ll go through it and see what I come up with. I’ll miss things, but it will you give you something to work on. :)

  • An info box would be good. (Look at other pages to see if you can find one.)
  • "organization's lore". Hmmm… not encyclopedic, try something else.
  • I have seen reviewers say that it’s better to put a reference at the end of a sentence, but if you don’t want to, put a comma before them: “the Medal of Honor,[1] and “
  • “the top echelons” – try and be more precise.
  • “both domestic shores, such as Brigadier General Angela Salinas” – I’ll bet Salinas wouldn’t like being called a domestic shore. :) Put domestic and foreign shores, with Generals/officers like…
  • Many Hispanics who are former Marines - Many Hispanic Marines went on to….
  • "Latinos"[4]) reference outside
  • "Currently" – Cut it. "The United States…" or Currently, the United
  • "which are the nation's" – which is
  • "race as of the 2005 Census". - race (2005 Census).

The lead seems a bit casual to me, and should include a line or mention about all the major points in the article. It should briefly mention World War l, Nicaraguan Campaign, World War II, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. (It doesn’t matter if it’s 4 paragraphs, BTW).

Make sure all the references are formatted in the same way, and Wikilink if you can. I did reference 15 to PBS. It's a very interesting article.--andreasegde (talk) 14:21, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

PS, I wonder who Cpl. Santiago is? :))--andreasegde (talk) 14:23, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

PPS, I think you could take the United States Marine Corps info box and adapt it to suit the article.--andreasegde (talk) 15:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help in the article, I will retrieve the book tommorow, with this we will have 13 featured biographies for the portal, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:28, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Rollback feature request

Do you know who I can request the rollback feature to? ~RayLast «Talk!» 22:28, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I thought I could request the feature without having to become an administrator:

The rollback feature is available to administrators and users with the rollbacker permission on Wikipedia as a fast method of undoing nonproductive edits, usually vandalism. Any administrator can grant rollback to a user using his or her own judgement. To grant rollback, the administrator needs to go to Special:Userrights and add the rollback permission to the user's account. You may approach an administrator and request this permission, however administrators found in Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to grant rollback requests have specifically indicated their willingness to consider such requests when approached on their talk pages (or via e-mail). Alternatively, you may file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for rollback.

It'd be nice to be able to revert vandalism without getting exhausted everytime. ~RayLast «Talk!» 22:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much. I'll only use the rollbacker to revert obvious vandalisms such as curse words or page blanking. ~RayLast «Talk!» 01:20, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi there: You and I are on the same wavelength, I think, with respect to this article. I didn't tag it for speedy deletion but, when I assessed it for deletion, I left it with the notes you've read, hoping that the creator would improve it sufficiently for retention. I gauged it to be a borderline case and so gave the hangon tag time to have an effect. Thanks for stepping in -- I think if it's possible to get a worthwhile article out of this, it will probably be by your efforts. I have no plans to delete this in the immediate future, and if I can help in any way, let me know. Accounting4Taste:talk 16:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

No worries at all. It was a close call on failing it, but in the end, I just figured it was going to take a lot of work to get the prose into shape. It was a very interesting article, and it should make GA easily at some point. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

John Leguizamo

I know you're proud of your heritage and that's fine. But since you want to talk facts, let's talk facts. John Leguizamo's autobiography is really the only reliable source about John Leguizamo's family. No celebrity database website is more reliable than Leguizamo himself. All those websites say that his father was a Puerto Rican realtor who immigrated to the US. But the fact is that is incorrect. First, he wasn't a realtor, he was a landlord and didn't become one until after living in the US for many years. Secondly, he was 1/4 Puerto Rican, 1/4 Italian and 1/2 Colombian. And finally, he was born and raised in Colombia. So it is entirely inaccurate to simply call him "a Puerto Rican living in Colombia". All those celebrity database websites just copy each other, they don't actually verify the accuracy of the info. MrBlondNYC (talk) 04:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

His father IS Puerto Rican. No doubt about that. But he is NOT just Puerto Rican. He is also Italian and Colombian. Facts are facts. MrBlondNYC (talk) 05:23, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Surely a subject parent's ancestry is notable? But I used the grandparents because I felt it was better than writing "His father was Italian, Puerto Rican and Colombian and his mother was Lebanese and Colombian." I felt it was a little more detailed while still being succinct. But that's just my opinion. MrBlondNYC (talk) 01:11, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Gloria Gonzalez

I did the Google search of the subject myself and had the same result you had. There is no verifiable/reliable source available or accesible through Google. Her article does not have a reliable source either. However, I refrained myself from deleting the entry in the list and/or proposing the deletion of the article for a couple of reasons. First, the provided source does have a picture of her clearly being honored while accompanied by other famous Puerto Ricans (which I personally recognize). Secondly, it is claimed that she was honored at the "Asociación Borinqueña" of Central Florida, in Orlando, FL for her career as a composer in 2007 (pretty recent). I didn't feel too responsible by just deleting her because of unavailable sources on the internet. A simple request for information to be publicized about her to a reliable source (a newspaper or institute of culture, either from PR or from FL) could easily prove her notability, if existent, and provide the required sources. My lack of boldness in taking action there, came as a result of believing she is actually notable and that acquiring a reliable and verifiable source is possible, even if it's not readily available on internet at the moment. I understand other publications can also be considered reliable, even if not available online, and am sure that if she has been openly honored, there must be at least some printed article about it. I have no problem on you proposing its deletion or deleting it, since the creator and/or no other editor has been diligent enough to provide or acquire these sources. ~RayLast «Talk!» 17:58, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

You might want to check the source a little more thoroughly before proceeding, although I agree that better sources can be requested/provided. In the upper left menu of the source: Biografía and Galería de fotos might give you more depth. You can see pictures of her holding several awards that have her name on it, and even a picture of a newspaper article from an editor of the section Por Dentro, writing about her and Frankie Ruiz. Check it out and please let me know what you think. ~RayLast «Talk!» 19:48, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
I do not oppose your decision of notifying the creator of the lack of reliable sources but I Googled some of the song titles with their performing artists and found G. González listed as a composer for some of the songs, which leads me to believe it should be true. Her notability appears to be proven by the gallery of pictures (with other famous Puerto Ricans) but I don't know if that might be enough as per Wikipedia policies. I think there is also an elementary school named after her in the Arecibo region/Isabela district. That's why I didn't take any action, I have uncertainties. But I think that since you have more experience in Wikipedia, I'll just trust your judgement for now. ~RayLast «Talk!» 20:01, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Agreed! Thanks for your dedication and commitment to quality. I still feel I have a lot to learn. ~RayLast «Talk!» 20:23, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

While I haven't heard about her personally, if she's been recognized by prominent Puerto Ricans in a large, organized Puerto Rican community such as Central Florida and her work-product has been verified, she must be notable, perhaps more so than a few other people on the list, and I would leave her there, at least for the time being.Pr4ever (talk) 12:08, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Most of the information about her Biography was given to me by Gloria González herself. I personally know Gloria and due to the lack of information about her accomplishments on the nternet I decided to create a page on SalsaClasica.com and add a Wikipedia page about her. "Honor a quuien honor merece". I have added an additional reference and will be adding more later. Please do not delete.Smoraza 12:08, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

How many warnings should I give an unregistered user (IP address) before nominating for a temporary block? It seems like it's the same user adding unreferenced information to the Jesús Omar Rivera article, which he keeps re-adding after I've reverted. ~RayLast «Talk!» 13:18, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

I noticed a comment you left for another user in March this year. Perhaps your not aware, but roll back is available to ordinary users on request for about 3 months now. Wikipedia:Requests for rollback Nil Einne (talk) 22:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

This was clarified the same day he left the message. He has granted me the rollback feature since. Thanks! ~RayLast «Talk!» 22:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Re:

Hey, things are ok, but studies are consuming a lot of my time, its that "recta final" of the semester. Anyways, thanks for your kind words, cuidate. - Caribbean~H.Q. 17:00, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I can see how you would be frustrated by this review, as reviwers are supposed to fix anything they can with an article themselves and many things were minor and could have been done by said reviwer. I will try to look at this article in the nect few days. Million_Moments (talk) 19:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Article placed on hold. Just want you to use some of the references more than once a paragraph as certain statements do need a reference right after them. Million_Moments (talk) 13:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I deleted the image of Maurice Ferre as, per speedy deletion rules, an image that is not properly licensed may be immediately deleted. The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority is NOT a U.S. Federal Government organ, and so the image license is invalid. See Wikipedia:CSD#I3 - The image was uploaded on 26 November 2005. Re: re: advice

Per this edit you made, I took the liberty of making a slight correction to your advice. 3RR is only a violation when more than 3 reverts are made. I made the point of clarifying it over there as there are often incorrect reports at AIV over this same issue. Gwynand | TalkContribs 18:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Saludos, saludos, vengo'a saludar

Hey man. I'm currently with a lot of work due to tax season, as they say "bien ajorao". :) It has pushed back my studying a bit, but I still have plans. I hope you have a safe trip here, you may not recognize Puerto Rico at first with all the controversies surrounding our government. :( As for meeting up, leave me a message and I'll see what I can do. I'm traveling mostly from client to client, from Aguadilla to Humacao, from Ponce to San Juan, and my schedule is sometimes hectic. (too bad the pay does not match it, but oh well...). Howdy

Hiya Tony, got your message just now. I added a copyvio tag to the article and listed it here, which I believe is the standard operating procedure for such cases. I am not sure what happens now, but based on what I read an admin will evaluate the article and decide whether to keep or delete it. TomStar81 (Talk) 16:30, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

List of Medal of Honor recipients

I wanted to let you know that I have submitted List of Medal of Honor recipients to be a Featured List. If you want to take a look and leave a comment please do.--Kumioko (talk) 17:12, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Cofesí

Sorry for all the trouble, I shouldn't have jumped ahead with this article, most of the material was written back in january and february and posted right away, without fixing all of the annoying grammar and format mistakes that appear, I should have waited and fixed those as was done with Kratos (God of War) wich was also written back there. Tony my connection has been experiencing some trouble, as a favor can you please keep a eye on the new WP:PUR good articles? Roberto Clemente has been receiving a lot of vandalism lately. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:06, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

P.S. have you seen the new section that "El Boricuazo" has on primerahora.com? I think we could use a lot of the info he publishes there to source our articles. I wonder if he knows about this project, a guy with so much knowledge can be of great help here. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:10, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Eddie Mellado - inventor of the 3-point shot

From what I see, the three point shot seems to have been conceived somewhere in the 30's, apparently by a guy named Herman Sayger. If you Google Eddie Mellado you will see a couple of links that claim him being the inventor but you'll see that in all the pages such as the "wiki answers" page, Mellado is listed as the inventor of the shot in the early 60's. The Naguabo article's sports section also mentions that he "invented" the shot in 1962. Note that the shot was already developed and being used by the National Collegiate Athletic Association since 1945 and was even officially used by the American Basketball League in 1961. It seems to me like he wasn't the inventor after all. ~RayLast «Talk!» 20:16, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

I have heard some things of Eddie but don't remember him being the creator of the 3-point shot, if I recall correctly his involvement was more in the development of the sport. - Caribbean~H.Q. 15:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I know Eddie personally and he claims that he is the inventor of the 3-point shot. Evidence suggests otherwise. Joelito (talk) 15:33, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Since you have successfully collaborated with Caribbean H.Q. on Daniel Santos (singer) and Roberto Cofresí to those articles over the GA hump, I was wondering if you might be thinking of polishing up Caribbean H.Q's article on Félix Trinidad, as well. It failed a GAN not too long ago, but the reviewer comments don't look too bad in comparison to the other GANs. It seems like you might be able to make the final necessary changes to push it to GA status. I don't know if you're interested, of course, but you do have the start of a nice streak going for you and Caribbean H.Q. -- Michael Devore (talk) 20:17, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Notice

Not trying to butt heads, but what I did was not vandalism. They were removed because it's unnecessary to include a redundant "See Also" section based only on the subject's ethnicity, especially when there's already said sections listed among the categories at the bottom of the page. Plus, I was not the only one who was erasing these sections, so it seems silly to (wrongly) threaten just me with a block. Beemer69 04:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

  • "Puerto Rican" is not an ethnicity, it is a nationality. Blanking complete "See also" sections which provide links to articles in Wikipedia which are related to the subject may be deemed as vandalism. Tony the Marine (talk) 15:05, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Continued conversation from Ari Meyers talk page with User:208.115.233.231

User:208.115.233.231, I have come to realize that you are a good faith and level headed person, therefore here are the answers to the questions asked:

My only agenda in Wikipedia is to educate the public in general about the contributions to society made by Puerto Ricans and Hispanics in general, which have often gone unnoticed or recognized, by creating articles which are based on proven facts.

I identify myself as a "Puerto Rican," however since I was born in the New York, I am legally an "American" citizen by "birth" and I am proud of what I am, what I am not proud of is the anti-Hispanic sentiment and discrimination which people of Hispanic backgrounds are subject to in the United States. Had I been born in Puerto Rico with dual citizenship, I would consider myself a Puerto Rican citizen first, since the so-called "American" citizenship imposed on Puerto Ricans is a "limited" citizenship without the right to vote in national elections.

If Puerto Rico were to become an independent nation (which is what I believe in) then I would request my Puerto Rican citizenship, based on the fact that I love Puerto Rico, its language, culture, traditions and so on, plus the fact that my parents were born there, as were my wife and children, plus that I lived there for twenty years.

Since I'm being completely honest with you, User:208.115.233.231, I must also state that I must also take my family's opinion into consideration who have set their roots here, but knowing my family as I do, I know that they will keep their daul citizenship. But, one thing is for sure and that is that I am proud of my "roots" and will continue to write about and provide positive role models (in some cases about not-so positive role models) with the intention that those who read my articles, both Puerto Ricans and non-Puerto Ricans, will realize that they too can achieve great things by seeking a higher level of education.

I hope that I have given you a short insight into the workings of "Tony the Marine"'s mind. Tony the Marine (talk) 17:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I think my IP address changed again. Anyway, I wasn't trying to be anti-Puerto Rican, so please don't interpret it that way. I was just trying to understand the accuracy of Ari Meyers's "Puerto Ricanness." Like I said, I'm not going to alter the article. I was just curious what defined a Puerto Rican, and what standards Wikipedia uses to classify someone as such. You identify as Puerto Rican because of cultural connections, even though you weren't born there. Ari Meyers would seemingly be the opposite, born there because that's where her pregnant mother happened to be on tour, but there is no cultural connection or family heritage with Puerto Rico, and Ari Meyers didn't grow up there immersed in its culture. -24.149.198.53 (talk) 10:32, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Don't worry about the IP address changing, it used to happen to me all the time and believe me when I say that I know that you are not anti-Puerto Rican. I really appreciate your curiousity in regard to Ari Meyers, the fact is that she is Puerto Rican by "birth" only and not by heritage. That is why when I wrote about her, I made it a point to make it clear that her parents where Jewish American. When we add these names to the List of Puerto Ricans, we make sure to include the fact that the person is Puerto Rican "(by birth)" so that the reader will understand that there is no heritage connection.

Anyway, as I stated above, I really appreciate your curiousity because that makes you, in my eyes, a seeker of knowledge. Some of our best articles are written by those who seek indepth knowledge and share what their curiousity has lead them to discover. Why don't you register? I myself started by writting about entertainers and such, until I asked myself, "why write about what was already common knowledge?", then my curiousity led me to seek the answers to the questions which I often asked myself which basicly was "What Contributions have Hispanics made to the U.S. besides in fields of entertainment?". I don't know, but when I find a seeker of knowledge such as yourself I find a potential great writer and educator. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:59, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey Tony, it was about time you got an article :-) By the way, Mistman has direct communication with El Boricuazo [5], which is pretty cool, I think you two share a lot in common, perhaps we can word a list of things where we can all work together? - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:05, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Sure, the article is now on my watchlist, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Puerto Rico project

Thank you for your message. I'm very glad I got a response. I noticed that I had actually bumped into your user page before and remember having read some of it. I'm currently wanting to work on articles on the various campuses of the University of Puerto Rico as well as the page of the University itself. Just wanted to see if there were active people around that I could perhaps ask to help me out or at least revise my work, as well as to ask when I had any doubts. That's alright, right? Thanks again for the response!--Madgirl 15 (talk) 22:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
