FAQs
[edit]Hi Kevin, and welcome to Wikipedia. Please see the welcome page if you have not already done so.
I should like to point out a couple of things. Wikipedia is not a source for FAQs, so any page that consists of FAQs will probably be deleted. Also it is not a good idea to create lots of pages that are redirects to non-existant pages. If you wish to create a new article I suggest writing the article first, and then creating the redirects.
Hope you stick around and keep contributing. And thanks again for taking an interest. DJ Clayworth 14:30, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay. But, I'll write it, and then we'll just see what happens! Hopefully, Wiki can make this FAQ page ***just one exception*** for all those students who can benefit by reading this! If needed, maybe we could just rename this page, from Physics FAQ's to maybe perhaps Common physics confusers? Whatever. I'll write it just to give it a chance. Thanks, Kelvin Case 15:54, 7 December 2005 (UTC) .
Hello, I found your {{somewebsite}} tag on Image:Silver bull.jpg. Having read the copyright terms, it basically specifies that images may be used for non-commercial use only. Unfortuntely, images which don't allow commercial use may no longer be used on Wikipedia (since May this year) so I'm afraid the image is likely to be deleted soon. Feel free to upload a replacement image if you can find one with an acceptable copyright license. Thanks! David Johnson [T|C] 18:06, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Electrum_Beaker.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Electrum_Beaker.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags.

Fair use rationale for File:Ship of War.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Ship of War.JPG. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 10:23, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I see you've just uploaded this image today. I think a graphic comparison like this is a good idea. I think the image is misleading, though. The payload capacity stated for the Shuttle is what the Orbiter can carry on board (e.g. in the cargo bay or crew cabin) while the capacities quoted for the rockets include the spacecraft — the spacecraft is the payload.
IOW, the weight of the Shuttle orbiter itself needs to be added to its payload capacity to get an apples-to-apples comparison; as it is it appears as if the Ares I/Orion can carry more cargo to the ISS than the Shuttle, while the Ares I is only barely going to be able to loft Orion itself to ISS.
PS: it'd be nice if this image was on commons, so it could more easily be used by other wikis.
Thanks! jhf (talk) 18:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Image File:2010 Receipts & Expenditures Estimates.PNG
[edit]Hello Mr. Case: I like this image. However, can you remove the "Potential Disaster" comment and instead discuss the issues with mandatory spending growth in the editable section instead (or just link to the main article for discussion). By itself, the comment is without context. I happen to agree with you, but the mandatory problems can be deferred for a long time if we cut defense spending by 2/3 for example, especially considering how much of that is off-budget.Farcaster (talk) 22:04, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
NowCommons: File:New Altair design.PNG
[edit]File:New Altair design.PNG is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:New Altair design.PNG. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:New Altair design.PNG]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 16:08, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Did you know that copy & paste without attribution from other articles is copyright violation?
[edit]It appears that you've copied and pasted material to Suez Canal. Leaving aside the fact that it reads strangely in light of other parts of the article, doing this without a link in the edit summary to the original article is a copyright violation as it loses the history for attribution purposes. Ares I-X images
[edit]Hey there, since your diagram of Ares I-X has been uploaded to Commons here, I've gone ahead and deleted two copies of the image that were locally uploaded (File:Ares I-X.PNG and File:Ares I X.PNG) and were not in use. If you have any questions, let me know. And thanks for making such a great diagram! — Huntster (t @ c) 04:17, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:West Brecilian Forest.PNG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:West Brecilian Forest.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 09:04, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Braun1956.PNG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Braun1956.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:32, 3 January 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 03:32, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Ibid
[edit]Hi Kevin, I don't want to get in your way since I think that you're doing a good job with the Thomlinson testimony content on Constellation Program, but I wanted to ask you to avoid the use of "Ibid" in references. That's a fairly meaningless practice on Wikipedia, since the location and order of references can and often does change. You can use the "name=" and/or "group=" feature of the ref tag in order to connect items which rely on the same reference instead.
— V = IR (Talk • Contribs) 01:10, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I gave ya a bit of an assist on Constellation Program. You can mess around with it further if you'd like, but this is a decent way to use Cite.php/Ibid type references. Feel free to pinme if you have any questions.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source
[edit]Hi again Kevin. Sorry to be bugging you again, but I have to point out that adding references to our own articles, as you've done here: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Vision_for_Space_Exploration&diff=prev&oldid=344123047 (where you added a ref stating "Please refer to Lunar space elevator#Possible uses.") is not appropriate. For more on this, see Wikipedia:Academic use, Wikipedia:Self-references to avoid, and... well, it doesn't specifically say it in Wikipedia:Verifiability, but the intent is there. If you're trying to do something like this then the best thing to do is to just pull a relevent source from that article, rather then attempting to use the article as a reference.

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Orion Correlation Theory, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please note that sources used must discuss the Orion correlation theory - adding information that doesn't is what we call original research. You should also not use the word 'coincidence' unless it is used by the source, again this is editorial comment, and our articles should be based on what reliable sources have to say about a subject. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 20:09, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Your contributed article, History of the Saturn V
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, History of the Saturn V. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Saturn V#History. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Saturn V#History - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. The Bushranger One ping only 03:04, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

e-book if you are interested
[edit]I noticed your recent activity on the Saturn V article. You appear to be putting a lot of work into it. We may bump heads occasionally as the article progresses. I'm an old retired rocket engineering who spent most of my career at Rocketdyne during the Apollo to early Space Shuttle era. My experience influences my opinions which are probably quite different from your own. At any rate, I wrote a 141 page e-book The Evolution of Rocket Technology which gives a history of the rocket industry which would not meet the approval of the PR guys at the NASA history office. I can e-mail a (free) copy of the book to you if you provide an e-mail address I can send it to. It's 15MB. IF you have a little more of an idea where I'm coming from, some of my article comments might not seem so off the wall. License tagging for File:Screenshot Engine comparison.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Screenshot Engine comparison.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article REDengine is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
