Hello, TheEgyptian, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~)or by clicking the signature icon () in the edit toolbar; this will automatically produce your name and the date. You're welcome. I joined wikipedia last November. Of course we can cooperate. Egypt-related articles need a lot of work. Cheers.--Wedian 21:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Translating articles

[edit]

Yes, you can. See WP:TIE. You can also request translations there. If you are translating from Arabic to English, you can look here for an example on how to cite the Arabic language article or read the talk page for further information, but my advice if you're starting a new article is to try to look for other references as well to assure its notability. There is a similar page in Arabic wikipedia [1] if you want to translate to Arabic but you may ask someone from the Arabic wikipedia if you need further assistance.--Wedian 00:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New article

[edit]

Hi. That's fine, but articles lacking content and tagged as "under construction" are generally deleted immediately. Someone else has tagged the replacement as a speedy deletion; you should establish this person's notability before it's deleted again. I'll leave it alone. - Lucky 6.9 04:57, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • We just need to add some more biographical info on our friend, so I'll see what I can dig up to add to it. Greetings right back at you from out near Palm Springs, California!  :) - Lucky 6.9 05:04, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem...it's great that you have some personal connections! This man was apparently a truly great figure in your country's history. I found a lot of stuff on the internet about him. Take a look at what I've done so far. - Lucky 6.9 05:29, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, ha.  :) Actually, I'm very glad to help you. I'm going to add a stub notice and call it a night. Don't hesitate to give a yell if you need help. TTYL! - Lucky 6.9 05:39, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alexandria riot

[edit]

Actually, i'm not sure what exactly you mean. Do you mean 2005 Alexandria riot? What about it? To delete an article you must nominate it for deletion at WP:AFD according to Wikipedia:Deletion policy. Follow the instructions here to nominate it for deletion. You must provide reasons for why you think it should be deleted and other users will vote either to delete it or keep it. However, i don't think this article would get a majority of "delete" votes. It was a major event and the information is referenced. I'd advise you to change its language instead (e.g. instead of "was an anti-christian riot", try something like "was a demonstration against a play that offended islam in front of St. George's church"). You can also search for other references and expand it ,may be include more information about the play, why was it offensive?,...etc, but try to write in neutral point of view or you edits will be deleted, also try to find references for the information you add. If you have other questions, plz don't hesitate to ask.--Wedian 14:07, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mubarak

[edit]

I don't know. The nature of the source ("Founded in 1997 it is considered one of the top online conservative news blogs.") and wording of the cite means it's not conclusive, but neither is it obviously disreputable or the citation's wording imply rumour as opposed to fact.

That was the only cite I found for it, though I was skimming and would say my search was extensive but not nearly exhaustive.

Have you read it elsewhere? Any other keywords I can bring to bear or pinpointing good likely sites besides just starting with Google would help to further define it. TransUtopian 06:22, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

how to change the category name? I cant find a "move" link! Category:Libaries in Egypt..should be libraries instead. --TheEgyptian 16:21, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can't move a category. Deleting and renaming categories can be requested at WP:CFD. But since this is a typo, i guess it will fall under criteria of speedy renaming. So you can request speedy renaming here.--Wedian 17:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've created another category with the correct name Category:Libraries_in_Egypt. Since Category:Libaries in Egypt has been empty for more than 4 days , i 've requested speedy deletion according to WP:CSD#Categories. It has already been deleted.--Wedian 17:48, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Egypt and List of Egyptians

[edit]

Hi again theEgyptian. I've requested semiprotection for Egypt as you suggested. Only administrators can protect or semiprotect a page but you can request protecton here. It is now protected against ip and new users edits. As for the list of Egyptians, i've noticed the ongoing mess. I'll try to figure out a way to clean it up.--Wedian 17:22, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Modern Alex" Pics

[edit]

AA,

The pictures that you loaded on the Alexandria page are wonderful. We don't have information under the Modern Alexandria section yet so it looks kind of "weird" with just the pictures there. I hid them from view but they have not been deleted. If you add info under that section and want to reinstate the pics, you can just remove the "<!--" when you edit the section. Wiahlan wa sahlan li Wiki. I'm glad to see that there are other Alexandrians on here ;)--Stoa 21:44, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WS,
Don't worry about writing info under the section. I just meant that while we find something to write under there (it can be you or anyone else), I think we should keep the pics hidden from view 3shan shakl el section bayikh bidoon ay kalam, sa7? I'm going to move the pics to wiki commons so that everyone can see them there. I saw this (Talk:Alexandria#Start_Talking_about_Modern_Alexandria) and now I kind of understand what you mean. InshaAllah I'll try to add something under there if I get a chance. --Stoa 22:24, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2005 Alexandria riot

[edit]

Actually, it's not a fact that the play offended Islam, even according to the sources. BBC says it was accused of that, and CSM says the protesters said that.

I don't see where it's specified that the three who died were protesters. While it's probable, if it's specified in the articles, I missed it.

About the "anti-Christian" lead in, that sounds a bit pov, but I don't want to restate "a riot to protest a play they said offended Islam" in such a small article. If you can think of another way to characterize/sum up the riot that's supported by those or other reliable sources, go ahead. (So far I haven't come up with anything.) Hi Cherry, thanks for your quick answer for my question about Permanent link. However, I'm afraid to tell you that I didn't understand exactly what it means, how I can use it and when is it gone! --TheEgyptian 23:01, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pages on Wikipedia change over time as people add, alter or remove information. If you look at a page today, it may look different when you look at it again in a week's time. If you save the permanent link, rather than the general article title, then it will always look as it does today. In order to use it you can copy the link and save it, and it will always point to the version of the article you see at that time. This is mainly useful when you need someone else to see the same version of the article you see, some time in the future. For example, if you cite a specific fact to a Wikipedia article and link to it then you might want to link to the permanent version of the article so that if someone follows your link then they will always see the version with that fact in it, even if it is removed or altered at a later date. Hope this helps. --Cherry blossom tree 23:24, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My user page doesn't look OK. There's a template on the right side saying this page has been deleted..., I need help. --TheEgyptian 09:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was a userbox ({{User arab world unity}}) on your page which was deleted under criterion WP:CSD#T1 ('divisive and inflammatory templates'). Your userpage was just fixed (after you asked the question) by Luna Santin, who removed it [2]. Hope that helps! --ais523 09:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict :p) {{User arab world unity}} was deleted and protected with {{deletedpage}} (log) -- since it was transcluded onto your userpage, this was causing some problems (I removed it for you, for now, but feel free to do what you like to fix things up). I see that another template on your page, {{newcomer}}, was also deleted (or never existed?), but this poses less of a problem for the time being. If you're not sure why the template(s) were deleted, I'd suggest asking the administrators involved, or making a request at deletion review. Hope that helps! "196.218.168.142", about "Alexandria" article

[edit]

Hey TheEgyptian,

First, thank you for your message.

Well, I didn't regiter in Wikipedia because I'm not intending to be a permanent contributor or article-creator (though I thought of creating some articles before). So all that I've contributed in was only the "Alexandria" article and the other ones related to "Alexandria". But anyways, I may create an account later.

As for the instructions of editing, don't worry I followed the rules very well. I never copy from any copyrighted sources, all the information I wrote was from my own mind such as those in "Culture of Alexandria" and "Sightseeing". And I just edited and made the other divisions more elegant and organized. If you find anything wrong or unorganized I made, you can tell me about it.

If you have anything else to tell me about, feel free to leave a message.

Sure if I'm gonna create an account someday, I'll be teaming up with you.

Nice to talk to you, see ya —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 196.218.168.142 (talk) 01:54, 16 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Inside_City_Stars.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Inside_City_Stars.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:48, 28 June 2007 (UTC). Hello. I am alerting you to tell you that I have placed your article on Debbie Almontaser on the articles for deletion page. Hi, this article was deleted pursuant to WP:CSD#A7 because it failed to explain how the subject was important or significant as required by WP:N. Also, a group's own website is not considered a reliable source when it comes to establishing notability. Thanks. -- But|seriously|folks  16:18, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you left your message in the middle of the page, so I didn't see it right away. "Controversial" in that context does not mean "the author disagrees with it". If it meant that, no page could be speedily deleted. You are welcome to recreate the article, however, please be sure to explain how the Association is significant or important. Otherwise, someone is bound to delete it again. And if you just assert that it is significant or important without addressing the requirement of WP:N that the subject must be significantly discussed by multiple reliable, independent sources, the article will be subject to deletion at AfD. Thanks. -- But|seriously|folks  10:20, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Cairo-Alexandria desert road, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 22:07, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

Are you the "Louise" who is mentioned as the author? If so, please mention it on the description page. Anrie (talk) 10:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. If you're not Louise, the easiest thing to do would be to ask her to also create an account here (or on any Wikimedia project) and then link her name on the image description page to her user page (like what happens when you sign using tildes).
A more complicated way is to have her send you an email, which you can forward to the Wikimedia OTRS, which states the name of the image and the license under which she releases it. See here for an example of an image where the OTRS-confirmation is pending and here for one where it has been confirmed.
I realise this is can be an awful bother, but the idea is for any and all users to be able to verify that the mentioned author did indeed release the image under the mentioned license. This prevents people from uploading copyrighted images and attributing them to non-existing people, claiming they were released under a free license. (Certainly not implying that that's what you did, just trying to explain why this is necessary.)
I hope you understand what I'm getting at. Please contact me if you have any questions. Anrie (talk) 08:57, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miami International Boat Show

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Miami International Boat Show, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Miami International Boat Show. Speedy deletion of Ahmed Ragab

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ahmed Ragab requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 00:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since you nominated this page for AFD the last time (successfully), you may be interested in knowing that Wael Badawy's article has returned, although with far more citations, so it is not an acceptable "recreation of deleted material" speedy candidate. It is, however, an obvious COI candidate, since it was started and edited by the individual himself. Just thought you'd like to know - let me know if you have any thoughts on whether or not you will renominate for deletion. Cheers, CP 21:57, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A quick read of the sources indicates that most of them are almost exactly the same, and they all deal with the iPill itself, not Badawy. Probably a good AFD candidate. Cheers, CP 22:02, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

EUCLID UNIVERSITY

[edit]

Dear Brother in Islam, As-Salamu Alaykum! My name is Syed Zahid Ali and I am the Secretary-General of EUCLID (www.euclid.int), an intergovernmental organization. Our organization was featured last year in the OIC Journal (http://issuu.com/oic-journal/docs/journal_issue18_english - page 49). I am writing to request your assistance as an experienced Wikipedia contributor, having also noticed that you did an edit on World Maritime University, which is like EUCLID an international university listed in the group of 5 by the International Association of Universities (http://www.iau-aiu.net/sites/all/files/international.pdf). An Israeli-born businessman, Mr Elyal Ben Cohen (aka “Verifile”), has attacked our organization and even used his IP address to add negative and incorrect information on our organization’s WIKI page, as well as a link to promote his defamatory opinion piece (see http://www.euclid.int/accredibase_verifile/) I would be grateful if you could review the matter and consider editing the EUCLID page to remove the false information and provide balance and neutrality. This person is, sadly, intent to smear our organization (for obvious reasons). I remain at your disposal should you need any information. EUCLID has prepared a modified page (see below, which provides external references compliant with WIKI guidelines) for consideration by other editors, but I will not directly edit the page. I would be grateful if you would consider posting this new page after doing due diligence. Please contact me if you have any questions. I wish you a blessed time of Ramadan with ALLAH’s blessings. Sincerely, Syed Zahid Ali szali@euclid.int Suggested code for our page:

EUCLID, also called Pôle Universitaire Euclide or Euclid University, is an international intergovernmental organization[1] with a university charter established in 2008. Its constitutive text and updated framework agreement were published in the United Nations Treaty Series in November 2011.[2] The organization has been headquartered in Bangui (Central African Republic) since Mars 2011.[3]

[edit]
The EUCLID intergovernmental framework was presented by IOSD Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali at the ICCI Conference of Qatar in 2008 and was adopted that year in April.

EUCLID is an international university and intergovernmental headquartered in Bangui and whose origins are linked to the vision of Prime Minister Faustin Archange Touadera when he was rector of the University of Bangui.

Designed as an international extension of the University of Bangui in 2006, Euclid was redefined and established as an autonomous institution in 2008 by an intergovernmental convention published in 2011 by the United Nations.[4]

In January 2008, Syed Zahid Ali, the senior official of IOSD, the administrative organization for the Euclid Consortium (‘Pôle d’Extension Universitaire Euclide’), presented to various governments a new legal framework called EUCLID Phase 2.[5] several governments interested in using the Euclid programs to train their own staff.[6]

Headquarters and Campus

[edit]

“Euclid University” was listed in 2008 by the Association of African Universities as a distance learning college of the University of Bangui.[7] Having begun as a college and extension program for the University of Bangui, EUCLID (University) signed a headquarters agreement with the Central African Republic in March 2011 with the University of Bangui as host institution and official visiting campus.[8] The headquarters agreement was filed as a treaty with the United Nations Treaty Section in April 2011 but has not been published in the Treaty Series database as of July 2012.[9][10]

Accreditation and Recognition

[edit]

In Participating States and Africa

[edit]

The 2008 intergovernmental agreement states that “In order to ensure the international usefulness of the programs offered, EUCLID is chartered to confer diplomas, degrees and completion certificates accredited by the ministries of Education of the Participating Parties.” [18] The letters sent in 2012 by the governments of Burundi, Central African Republic and Comoros to the US State Department describe the institution as being “duly chartered to confer degrees by its Participating States and enjoys full academic accreditation according to its constitutive mandate under international law (Article I).”[19]

According to the Permanent Mission of the Central African Republic to the United Nations, the UNESCO Regional Convention on the Recognition of Studies, Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees and other Academic Qualifications in Higher Education in the African States applies to EUCLID[20] with effect in the 22 ratifying States.[21]

EUCLID is since June 2012 a full member of the Association of African Universities.[22]

UNESCO/IAU status

[edit]

EUCLID is listed by the UNESCO-based International Association of Universities in the “List of Universities of the World” under the "Regional/International Institution" category, a group which also includes the European University Institute, the IMO International Maritime Law Institute, the United Nations University and the World Maritime University.[23] According to IAU, EUCLID is scheduled to be included in the International Handbook of Universities in August 2012[24] but is not eligible for listing in the "World Higher Education Database" which only includes purely national universities.[25]

EUCLID is not currently listed on the UNESCO Portal to Recognized Higher Education Institutions[26] which only includes data for a handful of countries as of July 2012.

US Accreditation status

[edit]

EUCLID is no US-based and does not have CHEA accreditation. In the United States, Maine and Michigan once listed “Euclid University” as an unaccredited institution. Following the completion of the institutional processes in 2011, the Maine[27][28] and Michigan[29][30] entries have been removed. As of July 2012, the Oregon listing reads “ODA is currently evaluating the present legal status of this entity.”[31] The Texas listing[32] indicates that EUCLID degree are currently illegal to use in Texas as of July 2012, in spite of communications sent by the Ambassador of the Central African Republic to the Governor and Attorney General of Texas in June 2012.[33]

Accredibase criticism

[edit]

Accredibase, a private UK-based company, published in December 2011 a report[34] criticizing the existence of intergovernmental universities in general as “procedurally unfortunate, academically risky and generative of a high potential for confusion and dispute” and of Euclid University in particular. The report also criticized the International Association of Universities for having “erroneously listed Euclid as an international degree granter” when it included EUCLID in its list of “Regional/International”. In January 2012, IAU refuted the claim and maintained the listing, adding to the EUCLIDE entry: “This institution has been included at the request of the Permanent Delegation of the Central African Republic to UNESCO”. The Accredibase report was also reviewed and replied to by EUCLID in February 2012[35] in parallel with the publication of an article entitled “Understanding the Legal Status and Degree-Granting Authority of the ‘Regional-International’ Universities”.[36] As of July 2012, Accredibase considers EUCLID as “unaccredited” and in return EUCLID lists Verifile/Accredibase in its own list of “Unqualified entities”.[37]

Trademarks

[edit]

According to the constitutive instruments, EUCLID (University) is defined as an having international legal personality and was granted a ".int" domain name under IANA regulations.[38] The institution also enjoys intellectual property protection as an “international intergovernmental organization” under Article 6ter of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property which is administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization.[39][40]

Hi

You have uploaded some files that is now located on Wikimedia Commons.

However you added different names as the author. Examples:

On the first 3 you also indicated that the photo is self made. On the last file you have not added self made.

Most of the files you uploaded have "Amr Fayez" as author. I suppose that is you. But who are the other 3 persons? Do you have a permission to use their photos? --MGA73 (talk) 18:28, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
