Your status/welcome back
In the past few days, I've seen your wikibonked notice, your wikibreak notice, and now that you are back editing to at least some extent. Please be assured that your edits and your administrator work are appreciated and that I am sure I speak for a lot of editors in saying that we are glad you will still be among us. At the same time, I hope you master the art of balancing wikitime with your other interests and real-world responsibilities. Bonkification and burnout are real risks for many of us, and I wish you the best in mastering the art of pacing yourself—a skill that I still have to work on myself much of the time. It's a completeness/broad in coverage issue. Criterion #3 of WP:WIAGA. Dr. Cash (talk) 03:00, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Just because an city or town is small doesn't mean that editors can skimp on its content. Most of the information in the article is also cited by a single source as well, which raises severe concerns to me regarding the broadness of the research that was put into this article. Dr. Cash (talk) 03:05, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think I'm not "assuming good faith" here, and that simply doesn't apply in this case. The article must meet the Good Article criteria to be included. Have you even noticed that at least half of the citations the article is citing came from a single source? That hardly looks complete to me. Dr. Cash (talk) 03:09, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Google searches aren't definitive end all and be all of anything. There are buildings in many cities called "libraries" that contain something called "books" that can provide additional references and resources for more research. It's unwise to limit one's research to only google searches. Dr. Cash (talk) 03:17, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't consider anything I have said here to be "uncivil". If it was interpreted that way, I apologize. Dr. Cash (talk) 03:25, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
2003 Atlantic hurricane season FTC2 nom addition
I'm almost done with another part for the series, the Timeline of the 2003 Atlantic hurricane season. I'm currently on Juan and I think I can finish the article today. When I do finish it, can you review it for GA so it can quickly be included in the series? Afterwords, if the article seems ready I'll go for FLC. Thanks Cyclonebiskit (talk) 19:22, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, ok. Didn't know that one. I'll put it up for GAN and see what happens. I'm just confused as to why lists aren't rated with classes instead of just List or Featured List. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 19:28, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- I've completed the article, Timeline of the 2003 Atlantic hurricane season. I've nominated for GA to see what happens. Should this article be added to the FTC for the season? Cyclonebiskit (talk) 00:53, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Deletion of QuantifiCare article
As the author of deleted QuantifiCare article and a wikipedia beginner, I would like to understand why it was deleted.
Criteria mentioned for speed deletion is CSD#G11 :
Blatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote some entity and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic. Note that simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion.
I created the deleted article following models like :
assuming they were not blatant advertising because of :
- "simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion."
- these articles refer to same kind of company (i.e. Contract Research Organization)
- these articles have not been deleted
Before fixing it (and recreating it), I need to :
- get a copy of the deleted article
- understand what need to be changed to conform to existing articles mentioned previously. Any suggestion ?
Any help would be welcomed for the second point, as I am a beginner in article authoring and do not want to make other mistakes.

Niwel Tsumbu
Hi Julian,
That was speedy alright!
The blatant plagiarism effect was caused by the fact that I (and another lady) wrote Niwel's website content as well. Do I need to re-word my own copy for it to be ok on Wiki? This is my first attempt at putting anything here. The problem is there isn't a whole lot written about him yet save for what I (and other people helping him get along in his career) have written, and the two big press reviews which I quoted from.
Please advise!

Davenport, Iowa
Judging by your projects, you can probably help me with your second to last post "I would really like to see the Climate section expanded with general information, rather than hard statistic". Where would you suggest looking for this info? I'm headed to the library in a bit, for more research on the other points mentioned from other reviewers. As far as the little images go, they are part of the predefined infobox. Also, this is my first FAC, how long do they last for, I don't see any specifics on the page. CTJF83Talk 18:31, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- List of wettest tropical cyclones in the United States#Iowa and Category:Natural disasters in Iowa might be a good starting place. See Boston#Climate, which gives the reader an overview of the weather patterns. Alternatively, you could dedicate some of the section to listing examples of notable storms, similar to North Carolina#Climate. As for the duration of FACs, while there isn't a set time limit, they usually last a couple of weeks. Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 18:42, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey there! I know this is well outside the realm of what I usually ask for your help on, but I'm involved in a rather knotty GAR on Attachment therapy, which can be found at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Attachment therapy/1. A few weeks ago, I offered a second opinion on a GA review of the article, and after some work by the editor, passed the article. Immediately after passing it, another user posted a series of complaints, and then almost immediately listed the article at GAR. Some of his complaints were valid and work has been done on the article, but he still continues to complain about the article – the problem being that most of his complaints are fairly vague and unsubstantial. I still think the article is of GA status, but the main editor and I are looking to get some outside input to see if we're in the right or wrong. If you could take a look through this article, and some of the issues in the GAR (they're sort of summarized at the bottom, if you don't feel like reading through the whole thing), it would be fantastic. Also fantastic would be if you could bring in some of your other editing friends to comment. If not, then I understand completely...I know you're busy with everything else you do on WP. Thanks! Due to some things going on in my life, I'm taking a temporary leave, not long (at least a week), from wikipedia. However, I have three articles up for featured status Tropical Storm Kiko (2007), Hurricane Hernan (2008), and Timeline of the 2003 Atlantic hurricane season, which I wont be able to respond to. If it's not too much to ask (or against policies) can you respond to any comments on their respective review pages for me? Edits (unlinkings) to tennis articles
Juliancolton – just to make you aware that Tennis expert has a one-man crusade going against unlinking dates and common terms, even though it's in line with the Manual of Style. He's reverted or undone Tony's edits and similar edits of mine and of other editors. He always claims it's because there's 'no consensus' to unlink, but he really just means that he doesn't like it. No other tennis editors have complained about unlinking, or relinked anything, or supported his reverts. So if you think articles would be better off without all that overlinking, go ahead and remove it yourself. (There is a script available to make the process much easier – get back to me if you want to find out on how to set it up.) Maybe eventually he'll get the idea that his obstinacy is getting him and WP nowhere. Colonies Chris (talk) 12:46, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Good job! Here's another. :)
Nicely done. Thank you.
Ready for your next assignment? This one is a little different than all the rest.
Many of the adjectives listed at Template:Adjectivals and demonyms for countries and nations (and used in the adjective entry on each country outline) simply redirect back to the country's article.
Those redirects (and their plurals) need to be replaced with disambiguation pages.
There are two templates used for this: Template:dp cadj, and Template:dp cadj2. The first is for the singular adjective, the second is for the plural (but only when that plural is a demonym – for an example of the second one, see Germans).
Template:dp cadj is used like this: {{subst:dp cadj|adjective|country name}}
.
Caution: These templates just provide a starting point – the pages they create must be completely edited to fit the specific country. The information is incorrect for many adjectives...
For example, in dp cadj it says there is no language by that name – but that's not true for many countries! You have to check to see if there is such a language or dialect by that name (whether covered in Wikipedia or not – use dictionaries, Google, etc. to find out) and correct that entry if one exists. Dialects can be especially tricky to find. Ecuadorian Spanish, for example, isn't covered on Wikipedia, but when people use that dialect they are said to be "speaking Ecuadorian".
"A person from {{{2}}}, or of {{{1}}} descent" assumes there is no article specifically about the people. Most countries don't have one, but there are a lot that do. Taiwanese people, Chinese people, Japanese people, French people, German people, Italian people, etc. When they do, the link needs to be added in. But for those that the plural works, dp cadj2 should be used to create a disambiguation page for that, so that the link works in the base disambig. See German and Germans, to see how "Germans" is used in the "German" disambig.
You'll need to check all links for correctness, since the template's link syntax doesn't fit every situation. For example, for the Taiwanese disambiguation page the template's plural in the List entry produces List of Tiawaneses, which needed to be changed to the actual link (List of Taiwanese people).
Template:dp cadj2 is currently configured for country names that end in "a", like Albania and Algeria. It also works by specifying Germa instead of Germany. Countries that don't have a separate plural demonym don't need this template. For example, the plural of "Tiawanese" is "Taiwanese".
The naming of articles related to country adjectives is a little chaotic, and is not standardized throughout Wikipedia. Be careful when renaming pages not to step on any toes. I was lucky nobody freaked out when I moved Taiwanese (the language) and replaced it with a disambiguation page. There was a big argument over what to call the language immediately after that, but I wasn't involved in that discussion. I didn't mean to stir up a beehive. :)
I've upgraded the adjectival table by linkifying the adjectives. This new version is located at User:The Transhumanist/Sandbox20#table of country adjectives. You'll probably want to use this version to access the redirects. When the redirects are all converted to disambiguation pages (or otherwise processed – whatever solution is best for each), we can replace the table in the template with this one.
I've completed the disambiguation pages up through the J's, so the task has been cut down in size a bit already. You can use those as examples to guide you in how to do the rest. Notice that some of them already existed before I came along, so there is some variation. Where there were existing disambigs, I merged them with the template version. Have fun with the rest. If you run into any situations where it is unclear what to do, or for any other reason, feel free to ask me anything.

Hello. On 17 October 2008, you moved Germans to German people "per request," and subsequent edits have set up Germans as a disambiguation page. Who is responsible for disambiguating the large number of incoming links to the dab page? I don't regularly disambiguate links to German, but I do dab links to other terms of nationality (Danish, English, Swedish, to name a few), and I often incidentally dab links to other terms of nationality when I find them in the course of my dab work. I have dabbed numerous links to German to point to Germans, and now that it's been recast as a dab page, those edits are effectively ruined. --Tkynerd (talk) 20:20, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I could sure use your help on these...
Nicely done on the adjectives. Thank you.
Now to support those links, we need disambiguation pages. Otherwise, the links just go to the respective country's name (or somewhere strange), which doesn't really fit the links.
Those redirects (and their plurals) need to be replaced with disambiguation pages. Any existing country adjectival disambiguation pages (that we haven't done yet) need to be improved.
There are two templates used for this: Template:dp cadj, and Template:dp cadj2. The first is for the singular adjective, the second is for the plural (but only when that plural is a demonym – for an example of the second one, see Germans).
Template:dp cadj is used like this: {{subst:dp cadj|adjective|country name}}
Update
I've started picking away at these again. I just did Namibian, Nepali, Nepalese, and Nauruan. I'll keep going until I've finished the Ns. To get a feel for what this task entails, see my contribs and look for the N adjectives and all the contribs inbetween. Once a template is in place, I do my best to bluelink all the redlinks, so you'll see lots of redirs in my contribs.
For your convenience, the bluelinked version of the table is at User:The Transhumanist/Sandbox20#table of country adjectives.

Hello! I was recommended to talk to you by RyanCross and PeterSymonds. I have been extensively working on the article No Jacket Required, and it is at GA status as of right now. However, I stink at copyediting, I'm pretty sure I have heavily mucked up the article in many different areas! I was just wondering if you'd like to take a look at the article, and give it a copyedit of your own. Any sort of contributions would definitely be appreciated! I have worked very hard on the article, and am trying to get it to FA quality. A lot of work is involved. Wow! But I digress. If you have no time to copyedit, or you don't want to do it, it's OK and I'll definitely understand. Thank you and have a nice day! CarpetCrawler (talk) 03:43, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Your move of Germans
Hello, may I ask that you please don't carry out moves like that from Germans to German people simply on the request of a single user outside article talk space? Moves involving high-profile pages like these are almost certain to be controversial, and move requests should always get a sanity check at article talk. In this case, it happens that I and apparently some others too find it highly objectionable.
By the way, you also forgot to move the talk page together with the article. Fut.Perf. ☼ 07:25, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, actually, it isn't really the main issue whether the article is at Germans or German people. Although, personally, I prefer Germans. In my understanding, the "... people" suffix is only used as a disambiguator where that is strictly necessary. "French" or "Japanese" can grammatically be country adjectives, language names, or ethnic group names, that's the only reason we ad "... people" and "... language" to the titles. "Germans", having the plural suffix, isn't ambiguous in this way, it clearly refers to the group, and thus, by the principle of "use common English terms", we should use it as the title. Naming questions are solved on an individual by-article basis; simplicity and elegance in the individual case are more important than uniformity of naming schemes across large classes of articles. – But that's only secondary and perhaps a matter of taste; the important thing is that The Transhumanist didn't just move the page, he split it up and created an unnecessary dab page. I don't care whether the one name redirects to the other or vice versa, but I find it very annoying to have two different pages with different content at each. And really, the most important thing of all is that we ought not to be discussing this after the fact; consensus ought to have been gauged before. Fut.Perf. ☼ 14:37, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'd suggest at this point we wait first for a bit of feedback at the article talkpage. Moving back will require a non-trivial deletion, we should have a clear consensus mandate for that too. Fut.Perf. ☼ 14:46, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you for looking at the Mozart thing so quickly, and for the copyedits. I tend to qualify statements with "apparently" (or sometimes "reportedly") when the source is basing iteslf on what someone else said. In this case the third party is usually Leopold and his regular letters back to Salzburg. I've had a quick check, and I think it's OK to leave them in place. On the disambigs
There haven't been any objections to replacing country adjectivals that are merely redirects with disambiguation pages, and we can do that without worry.
The only objection occurred when we moved a page and put a dab in its place. Therefore, we should focus on dabbing the redirects, and handle page moves last.
The Transhumanist 23:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- Slow and steady is fine. Do one or two a day until you have time to do more (and to ensure that you don't forget!). :) I'll chip in here and there (I'm working on the N's, and will pick another letter when I'm done with that one, etc.).
- Replacing a page that redirects to a non-dab page with a dab page is a serious mistake; since dab pages should not be linked to, you are potentially creating large numbers of inappropriate incoming links. If you intend to do this, it's your responsibility to re-point (replace or pipe) all the incoming links to an appropriate article (dab pages are not articles). You should also read Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Controversial names, where I would emphasize this sentence: Any proposal to change between names should be examined on a case-by-case basis, and discussed on talk pages before a name is changed. --Tkynerd (talk) 06:01, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply on my talk
- Please, please, please. I know that folks can't see their behavior from my perspective. But please. Please ride herd (no offense) on the crew. They will be very, very, very, very, very tempted to personalize this debate, as the recent posts on my talk prove. Don't tolerate it. What I mean is this: If folks wanna call me a bastard and throw me under the bus, absolutely no problem. But this "blah blah blah Sandy sucks" crap has got to go. I know it sounds offensive if I characterize it this way, but here goes: it is childish, plain and simple.
- The debate is not a personal one. It is a matter of competing visions of "What is an FA?". I truly hope people can see that. It is a debate over concepts, not people. There are two competing groups with competing concepts over what should or should not be an FA. And Sandy, unfortunately, is quite stuck in the middle! :/
- So... have at it. Git 'er done. Machst gut. Make the SFAC thing work. Gather a committed team. Solicit input from FAC regulars who aren't bastards.
- Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking. Ling.Nut (talk—WP:3IAR) 06:49, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Meanwhile, I would like my next adminship lesson to be about copyediting; I've heard that it's extremely useful, but sadly I don't know how to copyedit. dabs
There was already a synonymous dab at Lao, so I combined them. Watch out for synonyms. ;)
When combining, use the template {{wiktionarypar}}, which can display multiple terms, like this:
When there is an existing dab, expand it like this, or clean it up like this.
I also fixed the language entry for North Korean and South Korean – that was a tricky one, because those terms may refer to any of a number of dialects of Korean spoken in the respective countries.
Cuisine articles can sometimes be found at Cuisine of x. I've been redirecting those to the adjectival form as I've come across them, to match French cuisine, Chinese cuisine, Italian cuisine, etc.
By the way, you are doing an excellent job. I'm only finding a few things needing cleaning up in the new dabs. See my contribs, or the dab edit histories, for details.
I look forward to seeing your next batch.

- Urf computer is being annoying again. I can't view the articles on the site nor can I download and view the since they save as .aspx Cyclonebiskit (talk) 01:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
In a newspaper article I found there are two sections which are about Bonnie, one is the damage and the other is about the recon. flight into the storm and what it was like. Should the story about the recon flight be included? Cyclonebiskit (talk) 18:29, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Haha, I'm trying to do that now, learned the hard way with Hurricane Hernan (2008). How does the Bonnie article look so far? I haven't c/e it yet so that will probably appear. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:43, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, I still have three newspaper articles that I haven't added and there is probably more info available. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:52, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Question about 2008 Global Cyclone season impact table
Just as a side project, as I noted on the WPTC talk page, I've been working an article for all the storms in 2008 around the world. I've begun to expand it into an actual article (although not 100% if I will even bring this into the mainspace) but I just wanted some feedback on how the format that I've started on is good (the January section). Thanks, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 15:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- The storm by storm descriptions are there because I'm working on making it an actual article, sort of like a season article. It just has the impact table name since that was my original idea for it. Either way, thanks :) Cyclonebiskit (talk) 15:39, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Since your oppose vote on the above FLC, I've made significant changes, so if you could review the article and make any specific comments, that would be very helpful. Thanks. ArtVandelay13 (talk) 09:17, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I think that User:Vinavtc is in need of a block. The person is back on a numeric changing spree in cyclone articles. A vandalism-2 warning was given last month, so I gave a vandalism-3 warning, there was another one (edit) right after I did that. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 15:59, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

- I know I'm totally butting in here, but... Lists can't be GA class, it's only for articles. They generally go pretty much straight from B to FL class, unlike articles which have more divisions. Hope this helps – if not, just tell me to mind my own business :) Dana boomer (talk) 18:57, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm OK. Although I already know lists couldn't be GA or A-Class, I've put those divisions in anyway; it'll keep things organized, and the improvements from B to FL won't be so great. Thanks and a question
Hi Julian, thanks for the edit to Sonestown Covered Bridge. I have a question – the same storm system caused both the Johnstown Flood and the flooding along the West Branch Susquehanna River in 1889, but they are over 100 miles apart, so I am not sure calling the flood in the bridge article the Johnstown Flood is accurate. In Cogan House Covered Bridge I wrote The Cogan House Covered Bridge was the only one on Larrys Creek to survive a major flood on June 1, 1889, which also washed out most other bridges throughout Lycoming County. A large fallen maple tree formed a dam just upstream of the bridge across Larrys Creek, which blocked debris and diverted the brunt of the floodwaters.[8] The same flood destroyed the Larrys Creek plank road and the canal at the creek's mouth. The same storm system also caused the Johnstown Flood, which killed over 2,200 people.[9] Would something like this be OK instead? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:16, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
- I tweaked it – thanks. When I first saw "link to flood" in the edit summary for the bridge I thought it would be about the 1996 flood, like this, which I plan to add to the bridge article. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:38, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

GA fixes
I think I'm done buffing the timeline of the 2001 Atlantic hurricane season up to the equivalent of GA-Class, but I'll need you to put {{done}} at the bottom of User:Dylan620/2001 AHS Improvement Directory/B to GA to be sure. --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 13:04, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, and I forgot to mention:
- Don't hate me for this, but I read on one of your user aubpages that you hate rock n' roll; that's one of my favorite genres of music (I'm a real rocker myself).
- Like you and Hink, I too receive the Wikipedia Signpost; see this for proof. --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 13:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, when I said "aubpages" above, I meant "subpages." A spelling error that I let slide by mistake. But I really came here to ask this: could you please list any improvements needed to buff the timeline to the equivalent of A-Class? Remember, please list them on the GA to A chapter of the improvement directory. Thank you very much. Oh, and I have some homework to do today, so I'll be editing in on-and-off doses. But any free time that I do have, I will be using to improve the article to the equivalent of A-Class. --Dylan620 (Home • yadda yadda yadda • Ooooohh!) 18:13, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Could you..?
The assessment for Dylan's article (the timeline) just reminded me that I have Tropical Storm Karina (2008) on the assessment page and it hasn't been touched in days. I was wondering if you could give it a review while I wait for Hink to re-assess his review. Also, I got a semi-automated peer review for Tropical Storm Kiko (2007), it said, lead was too short (I think it's fine), article is too short (?), and a copyedit is needed, so could you give it a copy edit? Thanks, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 16:58, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

1969 ATL Timeline question
Over the Thanksgiving break, I'm planning to make a bunch of timelines of significant seasons since 1969, starting with 1969 of course. However, The numbering of the depressions is very strange and a bunch are missing. From Dr. Roth's file of all the depressions since 1851, the following is what I have for the season (well below this block of text), and I'm not sure how I should go about their naming as depressions if they remain unnamed or as subtropical systems, i.e. Subtropical Storm One was the Third Subtropical system of the year, how should I go about that one? In all, there should be 38 depressions, but there is only data for 30 (I think). Hurricane Ten shows the problem quite clearly since TD 29 formed not long before it.
- TD Five, May 29–May 30
- TD Six, May 29–June 2
- TD Seven, June 7–June 9
- TD Eight, June 12–June 15
- TD Thirteen, July 25–July 27
- TS Anna, July 25–August 5
- HUR Blanche, August 11–August 13
- HUR Camille, August 14–August 22
- HUR Debbie, August 14–August 25
- Missing Storm
- Unnumbered TD, August 24–August 27
- TD Twenty-One, August 24– August 26
- TS Eve, August 25–August 27
- TD Twenty-Three, August 29–September 1
- HUR Francelia, August 29–September 4
- TD Twenty-Six, September 5–September 10
- HUR Gerda, September 6–September 10
- HUR Holly, September 14–September 21
- TD Twenty-Eight, September 16–September 19
- TD Twenty-Nine, September 19–September 20
- HUR Igna, September 20–October 15
- HUR Ten, September 21–September 26
- TS Eleven, September 24–September 30
- TD Thirty-Two, September 29–October 4
- ST One, September 29–October 1
- TS Jenny, October 1–October 6
- HUR Kara, October 7–October 19
- HUR Laurie, October 17–October 27
- TS Sixteen, October 28–October 31
- HUR Seventeen, October 30–November 7
- HUR Martha, November 21–November 25
