Rename "Tatung Club" to "Tatung Football Club?"

I was wondering...do you think the "Tatung Club" article should be renamed to "Tatung Football Club" to make it more soccer-specific?

Asdf1248 14:57, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

That is okay with me. I just took the name from the AFC website. Unfortunately, I don't know the club's actual name.

Hmm...if that's what the AFC site says, I think we better keep it as "Tatung Club" then. - Asdf1248 15:10, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

RE:Category:Football (soccer) clubs established in xxxx

Thank you for helping me out in this massive work! I thought I was the only one doing this! As you are well aware of, this categorization correction exercise is not limited to English football clubs only. It also includes clubs from other countries as well. But take your time in this as there is no need to rush through the process. USMA Players

Just wondering why you are changing the national team of USMA players (such as Arribi, Dziri and Achiou) from Algeria to Tunisia??? TonyStarks 12:42, 2 December 2006 (EST)

It's all good man! Thanks for updating the section, hopefully I'll update the entire Algerian soccer section this winter break! PS. I'm just learning how to use this so let me know if I make any mistakes! TonyStarks 05:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
You think you can help me fix the Hocine Metref page. I tried adding in that infobox thing but it doesnt seem to want to work! I copied it from another player so I dont know whats wrong ?!?! TonyStarks 22:15, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

TFD Rafik Djebbour

Thank you for your kind note. On Rafik Djebbour, several person working on similar "sports" related articles have mentioned the same sort of issue. That is, the person in question is "notable". Taking you at your word, I will remove the tag for your convience. However, might I suggest that a sentence or phrase to the affect, "player is notable as a xxx", whatever notable item that is. This would assist us reviewing new article and alleviate confusing between "vanity" articles, "not notable" and others. Respectfully --meatclerk 06:26, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Removed PROD on Lazhar Hadj Aïssa. Assuming "good faith". Not on my watch list. Please add notability when you have time. Thanks. --meatclerk 06:49, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I didn't know who to ask so I figured I'd come back to you for more information. I'm going to have a lot of free time over the winter break so I really want to create/update as many articles on Algerian football as possible. I also wanted to upload pictures for many of the players but I'm not clear on the rules of what can and can't be uploaded. Can you help me withat? TonyStarks 19:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Walter Pelé, Pritchard Pretzel, fish heads and similar nonsense

Yes, it certainly looks like "hilarious" additions by someone who may be better off using their talents elsewhere. Let's see if they can provide any sources per Wikipedia policy. I'll eat a bucket of those fish heads if they can! Tonywalton  | Talk 17:13, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

I need small help

Hi ! I see you make a lot articles connected with soccer . Could you help me to improve the article about Leon Whittaker . I would like to change something in 'external links' . Thanks for your message. If any footballer is still in the Muslims category, then they should be removed, yes (I thought that I'd found them all). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:35, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Edits to Philippe Troussier

In your edit to Philippe Troussier, why did you remove those two categories? Before reverting it, I decided to seek an explanation first. If he is not a convert, then the sentences in the article body should have been removed too; but, if the article is true, then I don't understand why the categories were removed. Can you explain why you deleted the categories? Thanks. Neier 01:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. I probably could have answered my own question if I had read the comment immediately above here. I don't have any strong opinions one way or the other, so it makes sense to me now.Neier 01:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Please do not upload images in the GIF format

Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you've uploaded a number of images in the GIF format. In the future, please save GIF images in the PNG format before converting uploading (see Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload). PNG images almost always have a smaller file size, which decreases the amount of time they take to load. There are a bunch of other advantages to the PNG format such as lossless compression that you can read about on its Wikipedia article. —Remember the dot (t) 22:21, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Windows XP can convert images to the PNG format pretty well. For better compression, use the GIMP, a free program. I also have an automated bot that can convert most GIFs to PNG. It is called the PNG crusade bot. If you tag images with {{ShouldBePNG}}, this bot will find them and may be able to do the conversion automatically. —Remember the dot (t) 22:38, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Al Wefaq Sabratah

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Al Wefaq Sabratah, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 172.146.132.103 00:53, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Me again, but this time I signed in. I understand what you were saying in the talk page but the article itself doesn't explain why it is notable. If the article is improved, then I will not have an issue. But I have no knowledge of soccer and to me, you haven't stated your case in your article. That is writing 101 - you write assuming the person reading it knows nothing about the subject. And you haven't shown me anything that indicates that it is anything other than a very ordinary soccer team. Postcard Cathy 02:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Try to update it sooner rather than later since I put it up for AfD and they might not wait as long as two weeks! Postcard Cathy 02:19, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Did you put the neutrality tag on the Ron Paul article? I see that it says that undue weight is given in that section, but I don't see any new discussion on the talk page about the tag. --Gloriamarie 07:18, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I think it may be undue weight, but I also know that many blogs have been talking about this, and if it's taken out or put in the footnotes, the whole story won't be there. That's why I support its inclusion. Newspaper articles have been written about it, and it's easy for part of a story like this to be spread around without the other half.--Gloriamarie 20:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Goal Icon in Copa América

The goal icon is only really any use in more detailed match reports, which we only really have with the World Cup and big finals, to differentiate it from red cards and so on. It is redundant otherwise as there can be no doubt what each figure means. If you want it back for aesthetic features then I defer to you entirely, but it's a b*gger to type in when you're updating articles live, which I do with the UEFA Cup and so on. Furthermore, there is no equivalent in rugby articles for tries, drop goals and so on, (where it might not unreasonably be suggested the small icons would be more useful), and the icon makes the article stretch vertically as it is thicker than normal text. I also adjusted some of the goal times after watching the matches which I videoed last night (I'm not staying up till 2am every day). Regards Mjefm 13:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Flags edit

Dear Jogurney,

Hi, you reverted my edit to Jesse John, noting that there was a consensus against flag edits. Sorry to make an ignorant edit without doing the research first, they just looked so pretty...

Could you point me toward that discussion? I've looked some through WP:Football and can't find it, though I did find a recent post on the discussion page that provides flags for U-21 teams.

Thanks, Dkreisst 23:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

There's no proof he actually played in the competition finals (he seems to have been just a backup goalkeeper in the competition) and he seems curiously not to have ever played a single match in a fully professional league as of today (at least that's what I understand from the external links provided in the article). That's why I've prodded it. --Angelo (talk) 17:47, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Futbol

Hi, It's so nice to come across new Argentine football articles that I don't need to fix at all or add tags too, and to see someone using the South American footballers by club categories I've been creating and filling, I have filled up some of yours too, and put them into the category tree. Your excellent detective work on the Mario1987 cluster has not gone unnoticed either, I think it's shocking that they can sit around in that state for so long. Then on the other hand, articles on players of the importance of Fernando Alvez really should make a mention of their club career. Its hard to know what to prioritise. I am hoping that you might me interested in my proposal here, if you can understand what I'm actually trying to get at. All the best English peasant 00:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Mario1987

He's just been let off the leash, so I moved his backlog here User:English peasant/Mario1987 mess since he looks keen to disrupt efforts to clean up his mess. I'm sure that we'll soon be experiencing a new flood of inacurate, poorly reaearched, badly categorised, inproperly indexed, borderline notable football articles that he never intends to update. I cant believe he got away with such blatant sockpuppetry and got unblocked despite his history of being uncooperative and disruptive. English peasant 08:29, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Guardian stats centre

Hi, I'd be careful using guardian stats centre to get caps(goals) data. They don't seem to cover much before 2000-01, so data may not be accurate for players that have been at clubs before 2000. Most of the data is relatively accurate though. Regards English peasant 19:00, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

This club was known as Independiente Santa Fe, until Kok13 moved it without discussion or consensus. I don't think "Santa Fe Corporación Deportiva" is particularly suitable, as most South American clubs arn't called by their full legal titles, and the majority of the players ever to wear the shirt did so when the club was definitely called Independiente Santa Fe. In fact most of the English media hasn't clocked the change:

Even their own official website is called independientesantafe.com.

Angelo moved it back once and Kok reverted it, I don't think it's worth edit warring over, but I reckon a formal RM to Independiente Santa Fe is in order. Any opinions? English peasant 17:01, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Advice

Hi, I'm definately not having a go, you're doing a great job on South American football, but I've got some tips for you.

  • When you create a category like Category:San Luis footballers you can fill it up with players by going to the San Luis F.C. article and clicking what links here in the toolbox (Special:WhatLinksHere/San Luis F.C.), then checking all the players that link to the article and adding categories as appropriate. The reason I say this is my personal hatred of unpopulated categories, they make it look like a club has only had a few notable players when they might have had 50+. Doing this also helps you come across a load of poorly or non-categorised articles and articles in a tragic state of incoherence or inaccuracy.
  • Another thing, don't forget to add Category:Colombia international footballers (or whatever) if they have played international football.

All the best, keep up the good work. English peasant 16:26, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Football club logos, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Football club logos has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Football club logos, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Nelinho article

Hi Jogurney, thank for your message. Yes I agree that this "war" does not make much sense and i don't plan to dedicate much time to it, although I do not like these modifications without discussion. My contention is precisely with the "country at the time of the person's birth". Believe me, I am Portuguese living in Mozambique and I know that the use of the term "Portuguese East Africa" as well as "Portuguese West Africa" was very limited most for propaganda purposes, not written in the fascist constitution of 1933 even. I was born in Angola, and my Portuguese ID and Passport still say, and have always said, that I was born in Angola and not in Portuguese West Africa (I can send you scans of them). These terms were never used as in the former French colonies, where there were stamps from the French West Africa and so on (I used to collect stamps). There were never stamps or bank notes of Portuguese East Africa....

The article on Portuguese East Africa is misleading because Mozambique was a colony not a collection of colonies (the very good Portuguese article on the history of Mozambique makes that very clear http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hist%C3%B3ria_de_Mo%C3%A7ambique) and there is no article on "África Oriental Portuguesa" which would be the Portuguese equivalent to Portuguese East Africa.

I do not want to bore you more with the subject but I hope that after describing my point of view I can only become incensed when somebody says that "Mozambique did not even existed in 1941". Excuse me? and continues to change articles without any justification....Once again, thanks for your message Teixant (talk) 21:29, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Jogurney, as you can see Mr. (or Ms) Maracana continues to change the pages of Mozambican footballers without any justification. I have place my justification (my reply to you) in the discussion pages but to no avail. As you mentioned before, he jsut changes things without discussion. I just wish there was a mechanism for sorting these things out..... Teixant (talk) 17:09, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Not that I want to use your talkpage as the place to continue this eternate debate, which does'nt seem to involve you - I would just make you aware of the talk pages http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_16#Defining_country_of_birth and http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Centralized_discussion/Country_of_birth, in which the theme is discussed to death, in case you should not be aware of them (that Teixant isn't seems quite obvious). Calling my edits "unjustificated" or "vandalizing" then is of course incorrect. This was all from here, as I think I've made all my points elsewhere in the mentioned debate pages. User:Maracana

I have visited the pages mentioned above and I didn’t see anything that changed my point of view. The “problem” for me is not to write or not to write the name of the country of birth of the player at the time of birth, but that in the specific case of the Mozambican players if they were born before independence they were born in a territory already called “Mozambique” (officially called a Colony first, then an Overseas Province and later, in a cosmetic reform, a State!) and not “Portuguese Easter Africa”. This was an unofficial name at best and used a lot more in English than in Portuguese (in a way like the Anglophones calling Lourenço Marques as Delagoa Bay, not official but widely used). If I am shown an official/legal/constitutional document that shows that the territory was called “Portuguese East Africa” and not Mozambique, I will shut up immediately. Once again, Jogurney, thanks for your patience. Teixant (talk) 11:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Soccer player speedy tags

Hi. I don't think these articles meet the speedy deletion criteria as they appear to be valid redirects to the clubs they play for. This is acceptable if they are not notable enough for their own article. Regards. Epbr123 (talk) 23:08, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first!

I know that in Turkey, the first four level of leagues are professional and only Amateur leagues and PAF League have amateur status. There are no semi-professional leagues. Here are some Wikipedia links for Turkish Football League System:[2][3][4]
I also checked the federation's site for statute information[5]. The documents are in Turkish, so I tried to translate the part which is about the suitability of players for TFF Third League:
  • It is obligatory that the footballers who will participate in competitions:
should have his registration and take his licence on behalf of the club he is representing,
should not be banned from participating in a competition due to any reason,
the validity period of their registered licence should not be expired.
  • Foreign players are not allowed to play in the competitions in which TFF Third League teams will participate.
  • Amateur players are not allowed to play in the competitions in which TFF Third League teams will participate.
I didn't come across any statement about semi-professional league or player. And the players are not part-time. I don't know if the prods should be removed because the players are professional or should be kept due to the non-notibility of some players for Wikipedia criteria. Thanks! Rami Raofat

I believe this article was a deleted prod once already. I think then it qualifies for speedy deletion. I'm not sure how to go about that. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 18:25, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, I did not know that. I guess it does make sense though due to the fact that as time goes on a person is more liable to be notable. Sorry to bother you then. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 18:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Abdel El-Saqua

I have reverted your redirect - Abdel El-Saqua is the established Western spelling, and the new page should be a redirect here, and not the other way around. Regards, GiantSnowman 19:15, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

No worries! Just though I'd let you know my reasoning behind the edits. Cheers, GiantSnowman 19:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

My reason for "overcategorising", as you call it, is to reduce the number of categories on a footballers article. I have witnessed an article of a footballer playing in 5 countries, having 13 categories like;

...which could be reduced to the only 5: Category:French expatriate footballers in Spain, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, England.

If you look at: Category:Norwegian expatriate footballers, isn't that category easier to use and maintain than Category:Brazilian expatriate footballers?
...and how about Category:Expatriate footballers in Norway vs. Category:Expatriate footballers in Germany.

I actually noticed someone else starting the categorisation like that and thought it was a good idea, so I followed him/her. I weren't aware of the discussion or else I would have contributed with my views. However, I think I made my point clear and hope you will take it into consideration before reverting the work some of us editors have made!

PS: I think you should have an eye out for User:Raymond Cruise, which are deleting alot of expats-categories related to Spain (looks like he is removing them on everyone who aren't currently playing in Spain or Spaniards who are not longer playing abroad.)

Clearing out expatriate footballer categories

When clearing out categories such as Category:Norwegian expatriate footballers in the Netherlands, please remember to add the article to all three parent categories, and not just to one. For the category I mentioned, for instance, the parent categories are Category:Norwegian expatriate footballers, Category:Expatriate footballers in the Netherlands and Category:Norwegian expatriates in the Netherlands. Aecis·(away) talk 20:52, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi again, I noticed that you have started fixing the expatriate category entries, but you continue to leave out the Category:Norwegian expatriate footballers, why is this?? Is this part of the consensus?? If so, then alot of work has to be done cleaning out all entries from Category:Brazilian expatriate footballers, etc... lil2mas (talk) 02:49, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi! You wanted to get rid of Category:Danish expatriate footballers in Norway, but what about the Category:Norwegian expatriate footballers in Denmark and several others that still exist? Punkmorten (talk) 10:25, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Developments

Hi, you might want to contribute to this discussion. Also myself and other editors have been working on a new type of template to reduce the administrative burden involved in maintaining current squads and templates, you were probably the only footy contributor to speak in favour of the idea. Take a look at {{Boca Juniors squad}}. It needs work to iron out some glitches before it is officially announced and widely rolled out. King of the North East 00:02, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks for your offer of help on this page. It's so annoying - this guy is relentless! --JonBroxton (talk) 04:31, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. I assumed you read what was written on this page as to its purpose. This is part of subdividing Category:Canadian expatriate sportspeople in the United States - if having this enormous list (once completed) subdivided is a problem, then it should be part of a separate nomination. Regards Mayumashu (talk) 17:17, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Fine. Then please put up the subcats of Category:Canadian expatriate sportspeople in the United States for an upmerge nomination - don t just pick off one and leave the rest. Mayumashu (talk) 17:43, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
But it s not a good excuse, not caring (about other sports in this case, sounds innocent enough) I ve asked you this once already - did you read the pages write-up? And please notice the cat links of this page - it doesn t link to Category:Expatriate footballers and rightly so, it includes coaches, executives, officials, journalists. Will you therefore please remove the tag from this one page and take it off the nomination list? In case you are concerned, I have absolutely no intention of starting a Category:Brazilian expatriate football people in Portugal or anything of this sort. I just don t want to have a subcat page for hockey, basketball, and baseball, but not soccer under Category:Canadian expatriate sportspeople in the United States. Or, alternatively, nominate these subcats for an upmerge, please. And, though not all milk and honey, it s been good talking to you Mayumashu (talk) 18:04, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Ta. It won t, though. There s no way the list will be survive the nomination as is. And at some point the lists for other sports will need to be adjusted to match the ones for football - no coincidence that the world's dominant sport dictates how things go on wikip with sport page formatting etc. Seasons greetings and all, Mayumashu (talk) 18:20, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Paquito

Actually Paquito should turn to disambiguation page, as many footballer use it as artist name, and it create later than Anderson Luiz Pinheiro.

Here is the La Liga footballer (but no article yet)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues says only the First division of Turkish football is fully pro. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 20:43, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

None taken. I just hope we can finally figure out which leagues in Turkey are fully pro so articles like this can be either kept or deleted without to much discussion. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 20:53, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

indents on talk pages

I've noticed that you precede your comments on talk pages with asterisks, thus giving your contributions a blue square (but not a Conference) at the beginning of them. The normal convention is to use colons rather than asterisks, thus giving indentation without ornamentation. Kevin McE (talk) 00:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

I see you made some improvements to this article. I just came across it because it has been reported that he has joined Deportivo Laferrere in Primera B Metropolitana. See BDFA and Universo Futbol. What do you think? King of the North East 22:44, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I'll slap a prod on it then. King of the North East 23:46, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Akishige Kaneda

Hello, just for info: I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Akishige Kaneda, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! --Mantokun (talk) 03:52, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed that you removed the PRODs for these articles. While I understand that some League of Ireland footballers might pass WP:N, that is because they have multiple reliable sources presented in the article. One of these articles, on Ingoldsby, has been unreferenced for more than 2 years, and the other has been unreferenced for nearly three months. Clearly neither satsify WP:N in their current states. Could you help out by adding even one reliable source to them? I've left notes with the articles' creators, but haven't received a response. Otherwise, I will send them to AfD. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

  • I'd have thought that after that big discussion we had a few months ago where everyone seemed to be in general agreement that LOI was close enough to professional, that removing any LOI players would have been not on. I'd love to promise to add something, but honestly, I'm so backlogged on a few things, I wouldn't get to it for months. So AfD them if you feel they shouldn't be there. League of Ireland PRODs

Hi Jorgurney, the PRODs you added to two League of Ireland players - Declan Edwards and Declan Ingoldsby - have been removed. Do you intend to take to AfD? Cheers, GiantSnowman 13:09, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I have asked Nfitz (talk · contribs) to point me in the direction of said consensus; if he can't find it, then I believe the articles should be taken to AfD. Cheers, GiantSnowman 16:27, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
