Please undelete Localizing the SDGs and move it to a user page
Hi Jo-Jo
I stumbled upon this AFD, since the article subject is notable please could you undelete the article and move it to a draft in the creator's user page? I will work with them to make it more encyclopedic in tone.
Can you point me towards the policy/guidelines that suggest that articles that don't meet the encyclopedic tone get deleted rather than unpublished? I want to understand why it happens. It seems like moving a page to a user space page would be a better solution for retaining new users who are still learning the ropes but are knowledgeable on a subject.
Thanks very much
John Cummings (talk) 10:31, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
- Greetings, John Cummings. WP:NOTESSAY and WP:OR would be the policies in question (and WP:TNT an essay about a technique that is commonly applied to such issues). There was an earlier appeal of this decision. I do not userfy articles without explicit request since the user may not notice that the content was userfied or may not be interested; since you now asked for userfication I've done so towards User:John Cummings/Localizing the SDGs. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:38, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for undeleting, I'll make some changes to it. I'm sorry for not explaining myself very well, I'm specifically interested in the rationale and guidance (as in where is it written down) that when an article isn't being deleted for copyright infringement or notability, it is deleted rather than being moved to a user draft. Or is it simply that there is no policy and the people closing the discussion have discretion?
- Thanks again John Cummings (talk) 11:56, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Recent AFD close
You recently closed the debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Homafaran allegiance. You stated that the presence of a foreign language source that is uncontested, allows this to remain on wikipedia. Which source were you pointing to? The editor in question presented the book entitled "the tumultuous photo". I assumed that as it was so clear that it was an unreliable source, any closing admin would click the link and see that it cannot be used as a source. Can you re-open the discussion? Or is it mandatory to go through the DRV? Elektricity (talk) 05:34, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Um. I did say
may
since it wasn't clear whether such sources existed. Generally you should not assume that the closing admin will check any source for themselves:- The closing admin will in most cases not be familiar enough with the topic to judge any sources themselves.
- The job of a closing admin is to assess and implement what the consensus of participating editors is, not to apply their own judgment on the topic's worth. See "These processes are not decided through a head count, so participants are each encouraged to explain their opinion and refer to policy. The discussion lasts at least seven full days; afterwards, pages are deleted by an administrator if there is consensus to do so", "The deletion of a page based on a deletion discussion should only be done when there is consensus to do so. Therefore, if there is no rough consensus, the page is kept and is again subject to normal editing, merging, or redirecting as appropriate" and Wikipedia:Deletion process.
- An admin applying their own judgment to a source in a deletion process is often seen as inappropriately inserting their own editorial preference into the process, see WP:SUPERVOTE and more obliquely WP:INVOLVED
- In this case it's not clear to me what makes the book an unreliable source.
- Anyhow, I've reopened the discussion since the main reason for keeping is clearly contested. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:12, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Adding independent sources to deleted WireCash page
Hi Jojo,
The page /wirecash has been a work-in-progress for our company. With the last version, it did not meet notability and looks like a promotional page.
I thought I'd reach out for your help to restore the page to be able to add independent sources to articles that should help confirm notability. It looks like you're the administrator so that's why I am reaching out. If not, could you point us in the right direction to restore?
Will be adding the following independent articles: http://labusinessjournal.com/news/2015/apr/24/future-comes-down-wire/?page=1 https://www.builtinla.com/2015/04/06/wirecash-introduces-comparison-shopping-money-transfer-market https://www.bankrate.com/finance/mobile/will-voice-recognition-replace-passwords-on-smartphones.aspx
It's important for us to ensure we comply with Wiki requirements.

- Greetings, Cruz.wirecash. Alas, it seems to me like each of these sources was in the article before I deleted it and was judged insufficient in the deletion discussion, so it's unlikely that a new article will be accepted on the basis of such sources. You recently closed the second AFD on Jose Raymond as delete. My question is who was the principal author. My reason has to do with whether there has been undisclosed paid editing and/or sockpuppetry. It was just re-created in draft space as Draft:Jose Raymond, and I tagged it for deletion as G4. So my question is whether there are any spammers or sockpuppets who need blocking. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:46, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Robert McClenon: As is recorded in the history of the userfied text it is Shanemckinney. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:49, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ollagüe), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Radmin page deletion
Hello, I am writing regarding Radmin page on Wikipedia. It has been deleted very quickly in november 2017. This page was dedicated to Radmin remote control software, on the market from 1999 with 18 million of Radmin users worldwide. Radmin page is ok on other languages: RU https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAdmin, PL https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Administrator UA https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radmin and UA Wikipedia. The project is сontinually being developing. The latest version Radmin 3.5.2 was released on 12/14/2017. The latest review: https://www.business.com/reviews/radmin/. Radmin page on the largest download archive: http://download.cnet.com/Radmin-Server-and-Viewer/3000-7240_4-10032262.html. Radmin oficcial website: www.radmin.com. Other remote control software is presented on Wikipedia:https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/TeamViewer. Please help to contribute in approproate for Wikipedia way a neutrall article about Radmin (Remote administrator in past). Please help to find the text of a deleted article to rewrite and make it neutral and independant, in accordance with Wikipedia rules. People, especially system administrators should learn which remote control software exists and other people use for long time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Happywren (talk • contribs) 18:25, 31 January 2018 (UTC) Happywren 18:29, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Greetings, @Happywren:. That other Wikipedias have an article on it does not mean that ours needs to have one - for one thing, different Wikipedias have different rules, for the other thing, maybe these articles need to be deleted as well. That said, since our discussion was centered on text quality concerns, maybe writing a new version through WP:AFC makes sense. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:22, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Hello @Jo-Jo Eumerus:, thank you for your answer. I will rewrite the article, in an appropriate way and in correspondance with Wikipedia rules. Can I get the deleted version from archive? How? Wikipedia EN need to have Radmin article because this software is used by millions. Other similar Remote administration solutions pages exist on Wikipedia EN:Teamviewer, Bomgar, LogMeIn etc. The picture will not be full without Radmin page. Thanks in advance for any help! ″That said, since our discussion was centered on text quality concerns,″ - there have not been any specific facts abour the text itself in the discussion. I will try to update the text in accordance with Wikipedia rules with the help of other Wikipedia editors. Radmin page has been on Wikipedia for several years before deletion. Hellofresh Deletion
I see that you deleted the page HelloFresh. Since you closed the discussion, HelloFresh has held an IPO, with an initial market valuation of 1.7 billion euros. There are many in-depth news stories in reliable sources about the company - see [6], [7], [8], for example. It is the second largest meal-kit company in the United States, and also has operations elsewhere. I'm not sure what the original article was like, but there should definitely be an article about the company here. I'd be willing to write a new article, if necessary. -Mparrault (talk) 16:44, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- Seems like you might have a case. I'd recommend to send it through WP:AFC first, however. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:47, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Günter Bechly
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: On 6 October 2017 you deleted the page Günter Bechly. This was done after an extensive discussion with some pros and some contras. Nevertheless this has caused a negative article to be written about Wikipedia "Wikipedia Erases Scientist From History". I may concur with some opinions in this article that a scientist should be credited if this scientist is at least notable. The German wikipedia thinks so and so do four other wikipedias. The Biodiversity Library (an authoritative database) gives two scientific articles that he co-authored (the others are probably protected by copyright and can't be included in this database).

Wikipedia Erases Scientist From History
German Wikipedia: Günter Bechly
Therefore I would recommend to have at least a stub article about this paleontologist, regardless of his opinions about intelligent design (which I do not subscribe). Can you take a fresh look at this deletion process ? JoJan (talk) 13:25, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- Sure, but I don't think it changes my assessment: Having published academic articles is not by default sufficient for notability (nothing on WP:NACADEMIC suggest anything of the sort), "has a lot of taxa named after" was considered insufficient in the discussion and that other Wikipedias have an article on him may mean that they have different notability standards or that their articles also need deletion and just haven't been caught yet. The "negative article" reads like an op-ed to me so not a source that would confer WP:GNG notability and is wrong anyway: These other scientists have a lot of information written about them so are notable by our understanding and thus have articles, nothing to do with their opinions. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 13:49, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- Strictly speaking, you may be right. But then I don't know what more one has to do to become notable : having named 167 new species; having (co-)published at least 30 works, having been the curator of the Staatlichen Museum für Naturkunde in Stuttgart, Germany ...
- World Cat Identities: Bechly, Günther
- Google Scholar : Günther Bechly
- I'm sure wikipedia contains enough articles about people in several fields of sport who may be completely forgotten in a couple of years. But someone who has named new species and has species named after him (as a matter of recognition by his peers), his name will remain in eternity. In my opinion, such a person is surely notable. JoJan (talk) 17:18, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- I personally found it bizarre as well, but perhaps that is more a question for WT:NACADEMIC whether we want to make that a notability criterium. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:23, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello. You deleted it as redundant to File:Zindagi (1940) cover of booklet.png per FFD. However, I figured that the poster is still copyrighted in the US per URAA. The poster was still copyrighted in India as "artistic work" on 1 January 1996, five years before the Indian copyright expired. It doesn't look like a whole photographic work, does it? George Ho (talk) 11:02, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Wait. The poster says "J. Khatri" at the bottom-left corner; possibly the artist of the poster. Maybe it's still copyrighted in India. George Ho (talk) 11:08, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- Whoops, that is what I get from doing too many things at once. Yes, I think that file should be tested in a Commons deletion request. The files are otherwise identical in appearance, so the local file can be undeleted if the Commons one is deleted. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 11:26, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

I don't fully understand how all this works. The page of my old band Jesse James was deleted, apparently for no real reason and given the band's significance on the UK punk scene at the time this seems wrong. You make some comment about "dubious copyright" in regard to a video on youtube legitimately posted by our erstwhile record label. Why dubious? That's an ill informed statement. There appears to have been zero research done before deleting the page.

Titicaca prehistoric highstand
Not likely that any of the talk page stalkers here know the answer, but I'll try anyway: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0305440311001609 discusses that a characteristic type of agriculture in the Lake Titicaca region was dependent on a clay layer deposited by a "Lake Minchin" stage at elevations of 150 metres (490 ft) above the present-day water surface. Thing is, Lake Minchin concerns a lake in the southern Altiplano and a highstand of Titicaca 15 metres (49 ft) above its present-day level. On the other hand Mataro (ancient lake) - an even older paleolake - may have reached the exquisite elevation. So now I wonder if this agricultural factoid should be mentioned in the Minchin or the Mataro article if anywhere. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:23, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

- @Jo-Jo Eumerus: I agree the original posting most of the sources were from Penn State University @ "most of the sources are not independent from the topic", However the google links are from reputable new sources, a non notable public speaker as you described Brian Cliette in your deletion comments would not to be featured or even quoted/mentioned in the likes of "entrepreneur.com, The Huffington Post, Business.com, Influencive.com would you agree? There are defiently some public figure entries on Wikipedia that are live and public and only have a single meation from entrepreneur.com. Thoughts?
Cheers,

- Certainly a non-notable speaker wouldn't, but a non-notable could. The definition of "notability" on Wikipedia is somewhat different than the one used in the rest of the world, passing mentions are not sufficient here. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:53, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Bureaucrats can now add and remove the accountcreator permission by default. This means the user can help create a large number of accounts, for example for an editathon. Wikis can change this if they want to. [9]
- The Wikidata vandalism dashboard is a new tool to monitor vandalism on Wikidata labels and descriptions. It is filtered by language. [10]
- Info pages for file pages now show the file's SHA1 hash value in the table of basic information. This is so users can see that the file is the same as the one they uploaded. [11]
Problems
- Special:Export has a higher error rate right now. This means that the export does not always work. You should check to make sure your page exports worked. The developers are working on fixing this. [12]
Changes later this week
- When you review an edit made with the visual editor you can check a visual diff of your changes besides the wikitext diff. If you pick one diff type it will remember and show you that in future. The visual diff will now be the type first shown to new users. [13]
- When you use a gallery to show images you can define the size, like
gallery widths="150px"
. You could useem
or%
instead ofpx
but it would make no difference. You can now only use150px
or nothing (150
). If you write something else, instead of treating it likepx
, it will not work. [14] - The wording when you send a thanks message will change. Instead of
Yes
orNo
it will sayThank
andCancel
. It will also be easier to understand that all thanks are public. [15] - Redirects connected to Wikidata can create double Wikidata items. There will now be a tracking category for this. Wikis that don't want it can disable it. [16]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 February. It will be on all wikis from 8 February (calendar).

Would you consider undoing your close as 'keep' of the young Hitchcock picture deletion discussion, considering the fact that exactly Zero votes addressed the concerns raised in the nomitation (the fact that the use of this non-free image fails WP:NFCC#8)? Thanks, --damiens.rf 17:02, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- Pinging SlimVirgin since she'll undoubtedly dispute any reopening if I were to do it. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:06, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- Jo-Jo, thanks for pinging me. Damiens.rf, how does the image fail NFCC#8? Imagine what you would have to write to describe that image, or to conjure up the scene for the reader. It's fascinating to think that Hitchcock was raised that way, with a father and brother who wore Boer War uniforms and delivered groceries on a pony. Very interesting to see the flags above the shop and the father's name not only on the shop sign, but above that on the building itself, which may mean it was also his grandfather's store. SarahSV (talk) 18:35, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- @SlimVirgin:, This is not the venue to discuss either or not this non-free image fulfills our policies. You had the opportunity to expose your policy-based arguments in WP:IFD, which is a wider forum, but you decided not to do so (and I don't blame you). I'm asking User:Jo-Jo_Eumerus to let this discussion to actually take place. --damiens.rf 11:47, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- The discussion did take place. I think there was an assumption that you had misunderstood why it was in the article. If you'd like the close to be reviewed, the place to do that is Wikipedia:Deletion review, but please read WP:DRVPURPOSE first. SarahSV (talk) 18:56, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Regarding the file deletion
Hello sir, I am creating an article based on a subject who is not alive. The content is extracted from the biography which is published in a hard copy format. I am relatively new to Wikipedia. I just want to understand the problem about the file in my Infobox which was deleted. Can you please guide? Poojak92 (talk) 12:16, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- Greetings, Poojak92. I take this is about File:Vasantrao Ghatge- 1 copy.jpg? The problem I see is that the provenance of the file was vague - from which biography was it pulled from? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:43, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- The name of the biography is " Vasantvaibhav" and the picture is present in that biography. It has been listed in the newspapers, a link to which has been provided by me in my draft at the bottom.
Poojak92 (talk) 07:35, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- I cannot find any such biography. Who wrote it, and when? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:32, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
DYK for Zanclean flood
On 9 February 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Zanclean flood, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Mediterranean Sea may have been filled by a giant flood with a discharge rate about 1,000 times larger than that of the Amazon River? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Zanclean flood. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Zanclean flood), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Chack my sandbox for new article of elnaz golrokh
hi dear, please check my drafft for confirm my article, thank you so much Melody.nabavi (talk) 21:36, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Melody.nabavi: Um, if you want it "confirmed" why did you blank it? Also, I think that the Wikipedia:Articles for creation project may be better suited for "confirming" your draft; when you have (re)written it just add
{{subst:submit}}
to it. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:09, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- TemplateStyles has been deployed to the Swedish Wikipedia. TemplateStyles is a feature to make it easy to add CSS to templates without administrator privileges. This allows for better adaptability to screen sizes, especially on mobile where are half our total page views. If your community would like to be the next to have the feature, please submit a task on Phabricator. [19][20][21]
- Registration pages now collect keyboard/mouse usage information for research on identifying spambots.
Changes later this week
- You can opt in to a new beta feature that lets you use visual diffs on history pages. [22]
- The visual editor shows and lets you edit templates in one way, and reference lists in another. This meant that templates that only contain a fake reference list, like
{{reflist}}
, would not get updated as you edited. Now they will update as you edit, but you will no longer be able to visually edit them as templates. [23] - The abuse filter extension has a new feature
contains_all
that you may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string. [24] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 February. It will be on all wikis from 15 February (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 13 February at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 14 February at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The settings page and beta options for the mobile website are being improved. [25]
