AfD heads-up

I wanted to let you know that an IP user, 2405:204:8508:ED7A:709A:D8A5:A110:5A1C blanked the entire Ajay sanchaniya AfD page. This geolocates to Maharashtra, India. If memory serves, that is the location of the subject and is very similar to the ip addresses used to request Refund. Is creation-protection appropriate in this case? Thanks. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 15:50, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Nah, so as long as they don't start re-creating the page it doesn't need protection. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:55, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I'll keep an eye out for that (I think it's likely just a matter of time) and may drop you a note if I see it again. Thanks again. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 15:57, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

The Universal Party

Hello - I am considering writing an article on The Universal Party. There was an article on this previously that you deleted. Is it still accessible? Osanne (talk) 21:23, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Greetings. It is visible to admins still. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Universal Party was the place where the removal was decided and the arguments were given for removal - you ought to keep then in mind before deciding on whether to recreate the article. Ciara Taylor

Hello, I see that you deleted the page Ciara Taylor, which I was working on for a school project. Now that information is gone, and I cannot seem to find any of it on Wikipedia. I am new to Wikipedia, so I was hoping there is a way to recover the information (just so I can use it to show my professor my work). Please let me know. Thanks. Mwettick (talk) 23:37, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, @Mwettick:. I did delete the page because according to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ciara Taylor the topic did not meet our inclusion criteria. I could undelete it somewhere but do you really want to show a deleted work to your professor? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:00, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello, yes, I would really appreciate it if you could undelete it (in some way that I can see it, it doesn't have to be published). Thank you. Mwettick (talk) 18:12, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Here it is. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:27, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

On small politico deletions..

Hey, just a question on deletions. I saw a couple of deletions after https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/David_Elston and https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Andy_Halsall and few other things (mostly because my dissertation citation links broke...) and whilst I'd also mostly support the deletions on the basis of notability (They've been useful to me but I can't imagine they'd be useful to many others..) at least partially because the lack of impact beyond their movement, I'm a bit confused as to why some have been deleted and some remain. It seems that https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Adrian_Farrel, https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Andrew_Norton_(Pirate_Party) and https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Loz_Kaye (Just in the UK partei) are on a similar level of notability as the deleted ones, possibly less so. There are more for other parties:

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Samir_Allioui https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Carlos_Ayala_Vargas https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Sven_Clement https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Christian_Engstr%C3%B6m https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Stefan_Flod https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Harald_Haas_(Pirate_Party) https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Martin_Haase https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Dirk_Hillbrecht https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Florian_Hufsky https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Jerry_Weyer https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Lola_Voronina https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Denis_Simonet https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Jens_Seipenbusch https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Dirk_Poot https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Sebastian_Nerz https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Christof_Leng

The David_Elston is not quite the least notable of that group, having not even had much impact on the movement. Of course of all of those seem not notable (I have left some out that do, MEP's and so on). So I'm asking is what the balance of criteria is. You have founders, ideologues an leaders who have had an impact on their national and global movements, but where those movements are pretty pointless in the first place. I also note that you've talked about their positions not being notable, but less about what they actually did in the small worlds in which they exist.. Anyway, I would think that more deletions might be in order, or a look at the notability again of the deletions and the above if not, or maybe I am not understanding the Criteria.

Thanks for keeping wikipedia tidy!

(And I apologise for the formatting, I need to learn to Wikipedia..) 62.102.148.158 (talk) 02:30, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Alex Heineman

Alex Heineman (the subject of the page I created Alex Heineman,) has requested that his wikipedia page be deleted. To be clear, it has already been deleted, but the "deleted" page still comes up in search results. He would like it to be removed completely so there is no record of it whatsoever. Is this possible?

Thank you!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ultimateagenta (talkcontribs) 17:04, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

@Ultimateagent: Do you mean the notice on Alex Heineman? I don't think we can remove it. Or do you mean the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alex Heineman page? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:29, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
@Ultimateagenta: Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:30, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

I mean the articles for deletion page. If I google search "Alex Heineman wiki" this page comes up: deletedwiki.com/index.php?title=Alex_Heineman -- we would like that to go away completely and/or remove all the information/text from it... which I don't seem to be able to do. Thank you!!

@Jo-Jo Eumerus and Jo-Jo Eumerus: User:ultimateagenta (talk, contributions)
@Ultimateagenta: So both this URL and this URL? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:48, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

I think only the second one is the problem but if it's possible to fully delete them both, that would be great! We want to remove as much as we can if not all of it from being searchable.

@Jo-Jo Eumerus and Jo-Jo Eumerus: User:ultimateagenta (talk, contributions)
Thanks. Just for the record, if you edit an user talk page, they get automatically notified. I've blanked the deletion discussion as is customary for such cases. http://deletedwiki.com/index.php?title=Alex_Heineman I have no idea how to get rid of it if it's even possible. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:22, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Main page cascades

Can you also salt these pages? I wouldn't be surprised if people just try to go down the list. (or, edit {{protected page text}} and/or MediaWiki:Cascadeprotected to suppress the display of the list)

– Train2104 (t • c) 15:01, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

I'd rather not. Protection is to be used sparingly and not usually pre-emptively. None of these pages have attracted issues, probably because they are farther down on the arithmetical scale and thus not as frequently visited? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:12, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

The Ethereal Plane deletion

Dear Jo-Jo, I was wondering if you'd consider un-deleting this page. Its a feature film with at least one actor with a Wiki page (Gene Gabriel), as well as numerous links to sales and distribution of the film which should prove its legitimate existence. Please let me know what else I can do to prove its worthiness on Wikipedia. I understand that IMDB is not considered a very credible source, but its sales and rentals and reviews on Amazon I thought, would be sufficient proof. For your review, that site is Amazon

ClarkeMSmith (talk) 14:23, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, @ClarkeMSmith:. Thing is, merely "legitimately existing" is not enough for something to get a Wikipedia page. Dispassionate reliable sources discussing it in details are, and "sales and rentals and reviews on Amazon" generally do not qualify - reviews because they are posted by random people and the first two as they aren't substantial enough. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:43, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, and I'm learning more about how difficult it is to create a wiki page. Can you point me in the right direction as to what I could do next? I don't know how else to prove what I believe is a legitimate page for this existing movie. If other people involved in it have a wiki page, as well as it being for sale in retail, I don't know how else to prove its existence. Is a movie (or any product) for sale and having sales not sufficient? Thanks for your help and advice. ClarkeMSmith (talk) 15:44, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

You'll need to wait until other people start writing about that film. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:44, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

The problem with that, is that the film is now about 15 years old and no one is going to be writing about it. Is there nothing further I can do, the wiki page is just dead in the water? In lieu of film at Amazon, does the distribution company listing the film have any affect? Its The Ethereal Plane. Thanks. ClarkeMSmith (talk) 20:16, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Well, if nobody is writing about it, we can't have a page on it. That's under WP:V so to speak. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:03, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

I see. Does that mean that a person (Gene Gabriel) who has it listed in their own Wiki page as a credit with mention could start it? ClarkeMSmith (talk) 18:47, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

No, we'd need reliable secondary sources independent from the subject to describe it. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:49, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

OK, thanks for your help and insight for this newbie. Page is dead for good then. Had no idea how intricate and full of red tape it is to make a page for something! ClarkeMSmith (talk) 21:37, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Yeah. Some pages are easy to create (those on well-known scientific subjects and tropical storms, for example) but biographies and entertainment are hard. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:13, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Can I just ask one more thing, the lead actor from this film being deleted has a page - Gene Gabriel - and what is his "secret" for lack of a better word, in being allowed to exist without deletion? He's an actor but doesn't have anything truly famous or written about. It was his page's success that prompted me to make a page that his biography refers to as part of his work. ClarkeMSmith (talk) 15:57, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Maybe because nobody has nominated the article for removal yet? Sometimes, there is no deep underlying motive. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:40, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Even though its been up for 8 years? But that begs the question, why can't he have a page? He's a actor with numerous credits. Does one have to be Tom Cruise all the time to be on Wiki? ClarkeMSmith (talk) 18:57, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Possibly. I am more familiar with the volcano articles and some lake articles such as Ollagüe and Lake Cahuilla; perhaps entertainer articles get such differential exposure. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:02, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

File:Wana Decrypt0r screenshot.png

Hey, would you be able to take a look at File:Wana Decrypt0r screenshot.png? Would it need the non-free use rationale? A user has removed it and replaced it with a public domain tag because there's "no originality". I'm not too knowledgeable on files, so I'd like to get your opinion. Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 11:53, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

No, that needs a non-free rationale, it is more than original enough. Whether screenshots of software used to commit illegal computer sabotage can be copyrighted is an interesting question however. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 12:41, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I've readded the non-free rationale. Anarchyte (work | talk) 12:57, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the harsh comment, but at least outside anglo-saxon world this is regarded below ToO, i'm sure. cheers. --Itu (talk) 13:08, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Hm, there i can see a lot of Logos, and the far most of them are more sophisticated (to me) - and exist on commons.

Thanks again for your great work!

Why was the edit history for Less Nights, More Days NOT kept if 3 people agreed to redirect with history, and one person did not? --Jax 0677 (talk) 22:45, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Largely because nobody explicitly said that they wanted to keep the history. So I went for the compromise so that all 4 opinions are considered, instead of just 3. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:47, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Olca-Paruma

Hello, Jo-Jo Eumerus - I have completed the copy-edit you requested for Olca-Paruma. It was well written, and I found very few problems. I just wanted to mention a few things.

1) At the beginning, you say Olca-Paruma is a volcanic complex. In the second sentence,

  • Lying on the border between Chile and Bolivia, it is formed by an east-west alignment of volcanoes.

it seems pretty clear that "it" is Olca-Paruma, which you have just identified as a volcanic complex. So far, it's clear. In the third sentence you give the names of the volcanoes in the complex. That's fine.

The next sentence, which is the first sentence in the second paragraph, refers to all of those volcanoes: "These volcanoes..." All the other sentences in the second paragraph refer to "volcanoes". So far, so good.

Here is the third paragraph of the lead:

  • The only historical activity of unspecified character occurred during 1865–1867; the volcano may still be a threat to Bolivia and Chile. It also features vigorous fumarolic activity and has been inspected for its geothermal energy potential.

In the first sentence, you switch to singular. You speak of "the volcano", and in the second sentence you use the singular pronoun "it", which apparently refers to "the volcano". Since the previous paragraph referred to "volcanoes" – apparently all of the volcanoes in the volcanic complex – it really is not clear what "the volcano" means in the third paragraph. Can you figure out a way to make this clearer?

2) The last sentence of the third paragraph of Olca-Paruma#Fumarolic activity is now:

  • Argon isotope data indicate a moderately radiogenic origin for the argon, and a substantial amount of helium seems to have been added by the crust.

You will have seen, I'm sure, in the revision history that I changed "was added" to "seems to have been added". I just wanted to explain why I did that. If you don't agree, please feel free to change it back. I just thought "was added" sounded so definite, so certain, that I wondered how scientists could be so certain about it since it happened tens of thousands of years ago. "Seems to have been added" (or "appears to have been added") means, to me, "judging from available data, this appears to be the case". But if you prefer the more definite "was added", by all means change it back.

3) I wonder whether certain paired terms should be joined by an en-dash rather than a hyphen, including Olca-Paruma, Miocene-Pliocene, and Chile-Bolivia. See MOS:DASH#n compounds when the connection might otherwise be expressed with to, versus, and, or between. Shall I change them, or do you want to do that? If you change Olca-Paruma, you might have to do a page move.

4) The first sentence of the second paragraph of the Olca-Paruma#Geomorphology and geography section is:

  • The Estacion Yuma and the Estacion Ruquios lie at the southern foot of Olca-Paruma, along with an unreinforced road.

I wondered what "an unreinforced road" was. I wonder whether this should be "an unpaved road" (see Road surface#Asphalt), or does it mean something different from "unpaved"?

Well, that's all for now. Best regards,  – Corinne (talk) 02:47, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

@Corinne: Regarding #1, that's a problem with the colloquial ("volcano" in this case, as most people don't care how many centres exactly make it up) vs specialized ("volcanoes" and "volcanic complex") terminology. What would be preferred? I am OK with #2, regarding #3 hyphen vs. en dash is a Wikipedia thing that I have absolutely no understanding about. Edit away as you see fit. Regarding #4 the term used in the source is Camino sin pavimentar which I am guessing means "unpaved". Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:55, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
O.K. Thanks for the feedback.  – Corinne (talk) 15:28, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Vsmith Would you mind reading #3, above, and helping me decide which – if not all – these paired items need to have the hyphen changed to en-dashes? If Olca-Paruma itself should be changed, it will involve moving the page.  – Corinne (talk) 15:38, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Me? I really don't care :) but the guidelines say hyphens are bad. So change them - the page can be renamed. Vsmith (talk) 17:02, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Lake Palomas

On 27 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lake Palomas, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that parts of southern New Mexico and Chihuahua were covered by the former Lake Palomas, the remnants of which existed as recently as 500 years ago? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lake Palomas. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lake Palomas), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Could you please stop misspelling the word diameter as "diametre"? The latter word does not exist in any dialect of English. I keep finding myself having to go through your edits and correct the spelling. Prioryman (talk) 22:18, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, had to check up your assertion seeing as I had only your assertions. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:25, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
OK, if you've satisfied yourself that I'm correct then that's fine. :-) The word "diametre" does exist in French, so maybe that's what you're confusing it with. It's not a word like meter or metre where there are alternative American and other English spellings. Prioryman (talk) 22:35, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
