You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kristjana S Williams requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from kristjanaswilliams.com/pages/the-artist-bio. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Jim Rokos. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Kristjana S Williams, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Vexations (talk) 20:02, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vexations,

Thank you very much for your message and guidance. I had been to a workshop about Wikipedia some time ago at the Design Museum, London which was designed to teach people how to make Wiki pages, with the workshop's aim of increasing articles about female designers, as they are disproportionately underrepresented: https://designmuseum.org/whats-on/talks-courses-and-workshops/international-womens-day-wikipedia-edit-a-thon I had understood that a representative from Wikipedia was an instructor on the workshop. Whilst I do know Kristjana S Williams personally, I also believe that her work is noteworthy and culturally significant to the extent that it warrants an article (for example, currently a virtual reality world of Alice in Wonderland is on exhibition at the Victoria & Albert museum, London) and of course she fits the criteria of being by a female designer. I'm sorry that I had not been able to state that I know her personally: I could not see how to place the page-in-progress into the Sandbox and I had made it live as a way of saving my work in progress as I continued to work on it. However, the page had been removed before I could discover how to state that I know her. I also saw from your previous message that I could not copy and paste the bio from her website and had been reworking this, but by the time I saved my edit, the page had gone and my changes were lost.

Going forwards, I wonder if you could consider if you agree whether this page fits the criteria for Wikipedia? And if it is suitable, is it possible to recover the work so far into my sandbox and may I work further on it?

Thank you for your help, Jim Jim Rokos (talk) 18:19, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

First, given that you know Kristjana personally, you need to make a statement to that effect on your User page. Having a conflict-of-interest does not prevent you from creating and submitting a draft. David notMD (talk) 17:03, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Second, I cannot see what was deleted, as not an Administrator, but the reason given was copyright infringement. Even when working in your Sandbox or a draft, you cannot copy-paste copyright protected content. Best advice is to copy-paste to a word document on your computer, then rewrite in your own words before moving to a draft. David notMD (talk) 17:03, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Third, Her website as a reference does not establish notability. You need independent published sources. David notMD (talk) 17:03, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:Jim Rokos requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Thank you so much Theroadislong - Slowly I learn! I have started a new user page... it is very minimal. Please feel more than welcome to suggest if there is anything else I may add to the page at this moment. I'm going to start another article soon, so I hope to add that to my list if it is published. Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --Jim Rokos (talk) 14:29, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It suggests I have made no or few edits outside the page, but I created: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Bethan_Laura_Wood from scratch. I have also made corrections on other pages.

I would add that I am dyslexic, and any work I carry out on Wikipedia is more of a challenge for me than most. Everything language based takes me longer. Not allowing my contributions does feel discriminatory. Noted Wikipedia could not know of my dyslexia, but surely people of all working speeds should be allowed to contribute.

The reason was wrong place. Your User page is for content about you specific to you being a Wikipedia editor. Content in your Sandbox or a draft will be left alone unless the content is a copyright infringement. David notMD (talk) 16:56, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you David notMD and User:Explicit Please could you clarify further for me why my user page was deleted? My understanding is that as per the guidelines for a user page, I had included details relevant to me as a Wikipedia contributor. The reason given appears to suggest that I was using it as a website. Please could you reference the parts that were in breach? My understanding was that I may give details about myself that demonstrate why I am an expert in the fields that I write about, as well as some general detail to bring me to life as a real person so as to be relatable to other members of the Wikipedia community. I would like to make a valid Userpage, so if you could unpack and give your reason more simply and specifically what it relates to, it would be most helpful and very much appreciated. Jim Rokos (talk) 18:26, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an Admin, so cannot see what was deleted. My guess is that for "...I may give details about myself that demonstrate why I am an expert in the fields that I write about..." the reason was "details." Mine, for example, states "doctorate in nutritional biochemistry," but it is not my CV. David notMD (talk) 18:50, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
