86.172.40.147's edits.

Hi Jim. I am sorry to bother you, but i did notice your reversion of nregistered user 86.172.40.147's edits to a couple of pages. I know that this user is a friend of AldezD and a proponent of WP:NOTSTATS. The two of us are having a big dispute over what is a valid source. I was on the Through the Keyhole page doing a minor edit and noticed that 86 was using British Comedy Guide as a source. In my edit history on Wikipedia for British programmes, other well known editors have refrained from this website as it is fan updated and prefer to use TV listing sites like Radio Times or info from the channel's Press Office. I tried to make an edit using more valid sources, but 86 rejected both of them saying that Radio Times was not reliable and ITV Press was a not an effective source for Wikipedia. however, in the past 7 years that I have been editing and in talking with other editors, I have always had no problems with other editors when using Radio times or Press Office info as sources, until now. When I tried to talk to him on his talk page, he just cleared my comments and ignored me.

I complained to 86's friend AldezD, who suggested I write a post on the Through the Keyhole talk page, which I did. I don't know if anybody will see it though. However minutes after I started, 86 started a sweeping edit flurry, erasing episode guides, and valid sources and the like and has kept on doing so for a few days now. I don't know if you have seen his edit history. (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Contributions/86.172.40.147) The thing is I don't mind WP:NOTSTATS and everything when I first heard about it last year. i knew it entailed Game show statistics and shows of that nature, but as you can see, he is erasing information and sources from Documentaries and travel shows as well citing WP:NOTSTATS and WP:OVERKILL. What types of programmes do those Wiki rules entail? I've been editing here for the past 7 years and I've never had a problem of this nature since I've started. I like to update info for British panel shows and talk shows. I've used ITV Press office or Radio Times as a source previously with no problems. Now with 86 around, I'm really starting to feel a bit threatened with what I edit. Will it be accepted any more? Will this user get angry with me. i don't know what's what and may decide to leave Wikipedia altogether even if I have had a good relationship with editors in the past. would you be able to help me or give me advice, as with the speed that 86 is editing willy nilly, I don't know which of his edits are truthful or just vandalism. Thanks in advance 173.179.185.186 (talk) 17:41, 30 August 2014 (UTC)samusek2

@173.179.185.186: If it is a fan updated page, that would be a self-published source. Is this page fan editable? Is this page www.itnsource.com not reliable? See WP:NOTRELIABLE. A third party WP:RS would be prefered. This is somewhat similar situation with IMDB which is fan editable see Wikipedia:Citing IMDb. I would quote these on the talk page. I undid 86's edit as the anon is not giving good reasons for edits. Jim1138 (talk) 18:01, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

I am pretty sure ITNSource is reliable as I've seen Aldezd use it.For BCG, I would imagine that it is someone who does receive the guest list when the network puts it out, but I know it's not the network or Keith Lemon. Like I said, I've asked a couple of editors after I received this message and they have preferred Press Office spoilers and/or Radio times/Digiguide as well as AldezD (who is a big WP:NOTSTATS editor who doesn't do sweeping changes), however, 86 just doesn't seem to care and now has started this flurry of deletions as noticed on the edit history I linked to above. I'm sure he'll continue again tonight, maybe even reverting your reversions. I don't even know what I'll do if this continues. 173.179.185.186 (talk) 19:17, 30 August 2014 (UTC)samusek2

apology note

I'm sorry for editing I wasn't vandalizing I was just editing I didn't know that I was. I was just having a little fun that's all. Please forgive me I have autism meaning that I have a disability. The reason I edited body tempeture was because what I saw on hot body temperatures and cold body temperatures was not actually true. I reedited it to correct it. The fact is that body temperatures that are higher temperatures are actually more dangerous, more hazardous, more extreme, more serious, more worse, and more deadly than lower body temperatures. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.186.121.203 (talk) 01:25, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Shinya Yoshihara.

Hello, I'm the editor who originally added the information in that article. My deletion was stylistic and done anonymously accidentally. :-)

Regarding my deletion, I disliked my further addition as cumbersome, awkward, and a tad biased. A bit like an article about Katie Holmes saying "She is married to highly-acclaimed actor Tom Cruise who is known especially for his work in the movie XXXX." vs. "She is married to highly-acclaimed actor Tom Cruise who is known especially for his work in the movie XXXX, which was well-received by critics, and received 96% positive reviews, and inspired many directors to change their style of directing, and came out to wide acclaim in 2005."

Extraneous, and a bit silly. :) The article is about Shinya Yoshihara, and not the intricacies of Hikaru no Go and how it impacted the Go world (and, as much as I love Go and Hikaru no Go, it was misplaced, and biased the focus to the point of praising and expounding on it. :) ).

I did add the bit regarding Yoshihara Yukari (nee Umezawa Yukari), because I found it relevant and potentially quite interesting.

Interested readers can dig deeper into "What is Hikaru no Go, and why is it significant?" sorts of questions by clicking on the link to the appropriate article. ;-)

Some issues to be addressed

Jim,

Re: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Deportation_of_Cambodians_from_the_United_States

Please check these issues as I may be mistaken:

The following external links are dead:

1. Khor Sang Website

2. Deported Diaspora's Website

Note this statement:

"Currently,[when?] several deportees set up and work for a local harm reeducation organization, Korsang, providing help for drug addicts."

What is Korsang all about?

I can find no further information.

In addition, note this statement:

"Korsang has received a lot of attention from the local media as well as international support from leading organizations for its ground-breaking work.[4] They hire Cambodian deportees who go through the neighborhoods and streets in order to talk to drug users. They give out condoms and tell drug addicts about the danger of spreading HIV through sharing needles for heroin use and offer them help in cutting down or quitting their addiction."

Again, I have no idea what Korsang is all about.

The reference link [4] points here:

Montlake, Simon (2003-02-11). "Cambodians deported home". BBC. Retrieved 2006-10-03.

I searched through this article seeking a reference to Korsang.

I saw nothing.

Possibly I missed something?

Thanks so much for your help with documenting this important subject.

Revert on CeeLo Green

Hi, Jim. No questions. But let's be clear here, you didn't revert my change because it was unconstructive. You did it because I lost my temper with the illiterates who wrote the CeeLo Green article and used a swear word in my edit summary. So you reverted the text back to the broken English, unencyclopedic sounding, mess of a sentence that has been there for months. And it will continue to be there months from now, because after reverting it to get that terribly naughty word out of the edit history, you didn't fix the sentence yourself. Do you seriously think this:

"He has expressed that, at a number of occasions, he deeply regrets that wrongful behaviour in those days and years. He still feels deeply grieved by the loss of his two parents, whom he both continuously misses, also during these times of having a successful career."

Belongs in an encyclopedia? All you would need to add is a comment about how sad his eyes looked while he said it and you would have some Grade A CeeLo Green fan fiction.

But, fine. I'll leave it alone. Good job, buddy. Grab yourself a Barnstar out of the petty cash drawer before you log off tonight. 66.27.174.138 (talk) 05:39, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello Jim1138. I'm a relative newcomer to Wiki and I see from your own page that you help new editors like me. I've made a couple of edits to the Wiki page of International Executive Service Corps based on your notification that it's written like an advertisement, which it certainly way. I don't think there are any inappropriate external links (just the website, which seems fair enough), so perhaps there is still some promotional content. I've looked through other Wiki pages and there seems to be promotion content everywhere - or at least in lots of places. What do you think still needs doing to the International Executive Service Corps site to sort it out? I'm keen to learn, so thanks in advance for your advice. Doctor Who - Listen

Hi, i'm confused about why you consider my additions to be somehow unsubstantiated.

Paul Cornell has written some of Doctor Who's best-loved episodes for the BBC. He has also written a number of comics for Marvel and DC, including The X-Men and Batman & Robin. He has been Hugo Award-nominated for his work in TV, comics and prose, and won the BSFA Award for his short fiction.

http://torbooks.co.uk/2014/09/15/five-brilliant-things-about-doctor-who-series-8-episode-4/

He says "This was a story about the Doctor being wrong. He sought to confront the great and powerful ‘other’ and found only the frightened child inside him. (It reminds me of when screenwriter Aaron Sorkin puts one of his characters in therapy, or of how the central evil vanishes when understood in The Sixth Sense and The Others, also stories that feature a child standing up under a blanket, waiting to be revealed."

Warped Factor (a very highly regarded Dr Who source comments on the twist I mentioned.

http://www.warpedfactor.com/2014/09/doctor-who-listen-spoiler-free-review.html

"As well as being a perfect example of 'Behind The Sofa' viewing, Listen contains a punch-the-air-in-delight twist. A moment of brilliance that even M Night Shyamalan would applaud (and I'm talking Sixth Sense/Unbreakable early Shyamalan)."

The script similarities, the identical elements (toy soldiers, ankle, blanket) are all simply facts. I don't understand why you are deleting facts that I have provided sources for and also a reference to a Doctor Who screen writer who also states the same thing.

Can you please explain which of the following facts is incorrect:

  • Both contain a ghost under a blanket.
  • Both contain a ankle grabbed from under a bed.
  • Both contain a boy that uses soldiers for support.
  • both have lines of dialogue that reference the hairs on your neck.
  • Both reference a prickly feeling on the back of your neck.
  • Both are about a doctor who is unaware that rather than looking for the source of a problem, he is actually the cause of the problem.

All of these things are simply facts, as sure as Monday follows Sunday. Why should they not be included?

Hello Jim.

I tried to get a edit in to the "ten commandments" with a "Decalogue" (you called it "the ritual deacalogue") that in the bible exodus 34:28 is mentioned to be put into two stone tablets and called the ten commandments. The reason I wanted this is because they are said by the bible to be the ten commandments (and although there are several candidates in the bible for that title) I think leaving them out is simply leaving out important facts from the article. When I look at the Swedish version of the article the exodus 34 ten commandments are cited as "Seldom mentioned" and "none traditional, still claimed genuine by the bible" in it's own subsection. Do you think this would be a better place for me to put them and preface them?

Dizzypointed Guilty as charged. We've had some very long discussions in the past on how to present Exodus 34. At the moment, they are discussed in Ten Commandments#The Ritual Decalogue further down in the article, because it is definitely not without controversy (despite what the proponents of the documentary hypothesis will have you believe). If you genuinely want to reopen the debate, consider starting a thread on Talk:Ten Commandments. JFW | T@lk 07:56, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Disagree

Dear Jim1138,

Even though i am unsure whether this is where i am supposed to write my message for you, i will just do so. I am affraid that i have to disagree with you on my, lets call it "improvement" for now, being "less than neutral" since to judge this you would have to be in a position that enables you to, which since only my sister and me had Joachim Fest as their grandfather you can hardly be. However, I admit that the change I made does not actually increase the informative content of the article; note that this has never been my intention. I did this to express gratefullness toward a man which I will always look up to! I also assumed that somebody might change it back, however since I dont think anybody would have the opinion that it decreases the quality of the article I hoped that it might be allowed by "the corrector". I also dont think it lacks neutrality because it does not in any way comment on, glorify or even degrade the actions he took in front of the public eye, but only talks about him and his interaction with me. To be honest I just liked the idea of showing thousand of people my opinion on him in such a "hidden" way. I dont really believe that you read all of these comments and only did it for the sake of justifying my actions, and even if you do so I dont think that this will change your opinion (I am not saying this to manipulate you, provoking a response or that you change it back). I am very curious to see what your reaction will be, if there will be one!

Hello Jim. I am new to this so hoping I am doing this the right way. I just noticed that there was a mistake on the page and wanted to correct it. You said I did not provide a source for my correction, however, the source is the same as the one that is already listed. The information from the source was not correctly sited. Read through the source and you will see in table 3 that what I have written is correct Dao AU (talk) 06:49, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Jim. As you said: please read it again. The article provide no information on how many in the placebo had a reduction in papiloma volume. It only says that 15 % had more than a 75 % reduction in size. This is not the same. If anyone should be reported it should be you. Please read the source again. Dao AU (talk) 07:04, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

I also find it very important to include the final results that shows that the placebo gave 100% resolution of all lesions while HAMLET only gave complete resolution in 83% of the cases Dao AU (talk) 07:04, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

@Dao AU: It says no such thing. And why CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with topical alpha-lactalbumin-oleic acid has a beneficial and lasting effect on skin papillomas. Jim1138 (talk) 07:19, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Try and find table 3 in the source. there you will see that placebo had 100% resolution of all lesions while it is the case for 83% in HAMLET case. It is very clear if you just look at the table. I am refering to their results and not what they conclude on their results. The conclusions are more speculative than the results that are actually things that has been tested Dao AU (talk) 07:22, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

You might be confused since they only refer to the 83% in the text... probably because they cant explain why the placebo is working betterDao AU (talk) 07:25, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

@Dao AU: Try again. The 17 of the original placebo patients who did not resolve were put on Hamlet. So only 15% of the placebo patients resolved. Jim1138 (talk) 07:34, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

I am talking about the two year follow-up. Not about what happens just after first or second phase. In the follow-up they only have 3 patients who did not receive any HAMLET treatment. I agree they should have included more. As you can see in table 3 in the last column, the patients did not have resolution after the first and second phase of the trial but received it at a later point. So these 3 patients did not receive HAMLET but did however get complete resolution. They were not selected on basis that they had complete resolution after first or second phase, as you seem to have understood. I would also like to know why you are correcting it when I change: "The study found papilloma volume reduction in 100% of treated patients and in only 15% of placebo patients"? They do not give a number on how many have reduced papilloma as far as I can see. If you dont understand what I am writing then I hope you can find another editor who can help you understand so the mistake can be corrected.Dao AU (talk) 07:52, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

@Dao AU: Three of the twenty placebo patients resolved during the first phase. The other 17 did not resolve. The 17 (less one) were then put on HAMLET. The three were excluded from HAMLET because they were resolved. The statistical sample is still 3 out of 20. It is not 3 out of 3. This is over the two years.
Your claim of 100% of resolving would be equivalent to a series of dart games in which you hit a bullseye on three of the games, and miss on the other 17. You then throw away the scores of the 17 misses and claim a 100% bullseye score. It doesn't work that way. Jim1138 (talk) 08:07, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

The 17 patients were put on hamlet in the second phase of the trial, not after two years. This phase was long before the two year follow-up. If you want to compare results after two years you have to have patients who received HAMLET and people who did not. Only 3 did not. You cant take the 17 people that did not resolve after 3 weeks and include them in the statistics of the two year study. I have found an article explaining some of the things I am trying to tell you: http://archderm.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=405469 If you want to talk about dart, then here it is. You can say we have 20 people with 730 (days) darts each. After each of the players have thrown 21 darts, only 3 of them have hit bullseye. 17 of the people leave the place. The last 3 continue to use their last 709 darts. In the end all three hit bullseye. As you stated yourself, then it does not work the way you describe. If you still dont follow me, I hope you will consider letting someone else look through this too. Dao AU (talk) 10:02, 3 October 2014 (UTC) I think I know now what you have misunderstood. You think that the three placebo patients who had complete resolution of papilomas after the first phase of the trial are the same as the three patients who in table 3 are shown to have complete resolution of papilomas after 2 years... but they are not. Look again at table 3 the last column.Dao AU (talk) 10:27, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for my little outrage, it's just that these people don't understand and put stuff in pages that just don't go there, I've seen millions of pages about singles and the only ones with lyrics on them are really ancient or traditional songs and not popular songs, also it was just copied and pasted in the page from a lyrics website and that's not ok. And also putting a little four-leaf clover in the middle of the text doesn't help at all. My point is that I'm a big fan of One Direction and don't like people on Wikipedia don't take the pages related to them seriously (I created the Four album page and they wanted to eliminate it inmediately even though there was enough information about it) because there's bunch of little girls putting stuff whenever and wherever they want. I'll check out the info you linked me into. Thanks for noticing me and thank you for welcoming me, I love Wikipedia and I'll do the best I can to keep it clean. Fortuna Düsseldorf

Jim, I"m sorry, I don't know who you are or why you have removed every piece of information I added to the Wikipedia entry on Fortuna Düsseldorf. I have updated the information on the previous two seasons, corrected grammatical mistakes, and added information on Fortuna's history. The information I added was factual - wins, losses, etc. - which is available to anyone with access to a computer or a newspaper. Could you please restore the information I added. Thank you. Best regards, Thomas Jakobsh109.43.48.243 (talk) 22:31, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Jim, I'm sorry, but your reply was both patronizing and pointless. Did you even read any of the changes I made? Obviously you did not read the existing article on Fortuna Düsseldorf. It covers more than 100 years of history - and it includes a total of six footnotes. Six! A lengthy discussion of Fortuna's history through the entire post-war era through to the 1970s contains not a single footnote. Perhaps all of this shod be removed as well? What I did was to update the existing information - which ends two years ago - with a careful and factual summary of the last two seasons. I also improved some of the English (which was obvious written by a non-English speaker). If you think this entry is stronger and that Wikipedia users are better served by a page that ends two years ago, I have to disagree with you. My changes were constructive and helpful; yours were destructive and idiotic. Best Regards, Thomas Jakobsh109.43.48.243 (talk) 23:01, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Acupuncture wording

Hi Jim, nothing personal, just restoring wording agreed upon after much discussion (diff of wording here, and for discussion see here and links therein and sections preceding). Ordinarily you'd be right, and I would support the simplified wording, but this is an unusual case where the RCT's highlighted weren't part of the dataset, so changing the wording changes the meaning in a nearly 180-degree way. Doc James had the same concern which I addressed here; see his comment "I do not see the justification for..." and my reply under it.

Here's the source; see for yourself, pp. 761-762. The majority of reviews Ernst looked at were actually positive, i.e. showing real > sham; but they were full of caveats.

As I mentioned in a recent comment at talk, the only way in which "real acupuncture was no better than sham" is a "finding" of Ernst '11 is in a very hazy "spirit of the law" sense, insofar as he predicts the trend of future research as methods improve. But our job is to get both the spirit and the letter right without screwing up either. And we can do that by instead using sources that are based on more recent and better research, and find unambiguously for lack of clinically meaningful efficacy vs. sham, and thus can be summarized in a simple manner. QuackGuru is the one who has been insisting on keeping Ernst '11 there for whatever reason.

Cheers. --Middle 8 (contribsCOI) 08:39, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

About your WP:BRD

Hi Jim1138. I have read what you've left on my talkpage. I have done my edits in Ahn Sahng-hong with definite reasons, I even stated my reason why I deleted a specific reference that I mentioned in the article's talkpage:

a. There were NO proper references to support the article (dead link, questionable sources, the Korean references were wrongly translated, the reference rather had an opposing information).

b. Had absolutely NO references to prove that some information were factual.

Suddenly Sam Sailor reverted my edit without even stating the reason why he disagreed, nor did he left anything in my talkpage or the article's talkpage. He just said "Restoring tons of deleted material."

Uh.. Is this a good reason to revert my edits? Without even telling me why my edits were unreasonable? I can see you're one of the members of the Subtle Vandalism Taskforce Team WP:SVT, and are a recent changes patroller WP:RCP. I'm perplexed seeing you reverting my edits with WP:BRD, which clearly states "BRD is not a valid excuse for reverting good-faith efforts to improve a page simply because you don't like the changes. Don't invoke BRD as your reason for reverting someone else's work or for edit warring: instead, provide a reason that is based on policies, guidelines, or common sense," at an instant without stating the reason why my edits were unreasonable (you just said "this is reliably sourced") and agreed with Sam Sailor(who just reverted without stating any reason)'s edits. Why was it necessary for you to revert also the past edits and add new references which neither SamSailor or I were even involved, without stating the reasons of your edits? I don't think your revert engages in consensus building (See WP:Consensus), since you don't explain anything about reverting my edits and also restoring the past edits that none of us were involved in. This also applies with Sam Sailor. We need to be neutral. Please respect others' edits. Did you not realize that Sam Sailor reverted my edit without providing any reason? Leave the message, please. Thanks -Nellyhan (talk) 06:28, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

I made a small change to Alex Linder's article to expose the crude and ignorant way that anti-Semitic man lives. Dear Jim,

A week ago you deleted a page that I was working on (before it was even published!)--Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP--and I kindly asked why it was deleted, particularly when it was modeled off of other similar pages that remain published on Wikipedia (read: Choate, Hall & Stewart). Why does their page have an advertising warning at the top of page, yet it stays up? Wikipedia fails to apply standards across-the-board.

Providence(religious movement)

Hi Jim,

I saw that that you recently removed an edit that I posted on the Providence(religious movement) article, specifically that Jung Myeong Seok is a best-selling author in South Korea. Afterwards you posted an edit war template on my talk page.

As I mentioned on the talk page of the article, I am really hoping to collaborate and have frequently been inviting discussions on the talk page of the Providence article... I saw that when you removed the edit, as was the case with two previous authors, you did not engage in any discussion on the talk page in regards to your rationale or your reasoning.

Its no problem, but please, please utilize the talk page moving forward. ;) It will save us all a lot of time.

In an effort to show that I have no interest in edit warring, I would like to invite you now to come discuss on the Providence talk page why you feel that my edit does not belong on the page.

I hope that moving forward everyone who is working on this article will collaborate, discuss edits in detail on the talk page, and make the article the best it can be.

one word edit test

I was testing out the edit... nothing personal to the writer. I was reading about Maat and though this is ancient historical info dating back beyond the conquest of Alexander, this civilization is far too often referred to Egypt/Egyptians in error. Egypt is a term given by the Greeks. The correct name is Kmt/Kemet/Kemetian. Being that the land is in Northern Afrika and that prior to it being called Kmt it was upper and lower Nubia. The Nubians were all dark skinned people or so called black or negro with kinky/wooly hair, wide noses, and full or thick lips. Kmt means dark or black land, these were the aboriginal people and builders of Kmt (Egypt). Especially when I read articles or research info on Kmt, it is infrequently referred by it's ancient name and less about the aboriginal people being black. Just wondered if editing could actually be done, now I know. ThAnkh You 2602:301:77BA:6D40:D91E:E1F9:18BC:4C2 (talk) 08:55, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Re Robert Allerton

Hi, Jim1138. The reason for the edits were twofold: 1) The current sentence doesn't actually make any sense: "However, due to the lack of marriage equality in that time, they became father and son in 1959." Also, it's speculative, implicitly attributing the motive for adoption to the lack of marriage equality. So my edit better makes that speculation explicit and provides additional possible explanation, that is, providing estate inheritance. 2) The source for the information was the tour guide at the Allerton Garden. 76.14.15.88 (talk) 01:48, 4 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.15.88 (talk) 20:12, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
