disruptive edits on zanj y where u reverted

[edit]

I am also sharing your concern, 100%, the motives r unclear. I informed the editor about the zanj 4 100% honest reasons. But 4 unknown reasons precided 2 being an authority on a topic 2 hrs b4 she knew nothing about. I have been working on that article for months, and then accused me on being a vandal, on an article i developed? then u revert and she came right in with no reason, ignoring all the dialogue and reverted you. Doesnt matter than my argument is rooted in "not in sources" or original research. Funny the same editor then argues on Black people against the use of the word. Yet on Zanj purposly puts in the word. the best case of WP:POINT--Halqh حَلَقَة הלכהሐላቃህ 08:08, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hear you. I really appreciate all your hard work. I understand your frustration. I do not understand her reasoning, and her blatant disrespect for other's edits. It almost seems she is disruptive on purpose, very disrespectful, and obviously her views and edits are very personal and wishy-washy. Hang in there, keep up the good work. Jeeny 15:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
It would be good to have your voice on Zanj. I think anyone can look in my contributions to wiki and know my area of expertise. There is no point in bringing this knowledge to wiki if arrogance is what we determin content. People stumble on knowledge and push a POV, Tell me, why would they care so much about calling poeple Black? Yet you see my history of developing these topic, ethnic groups, Slave trade, Revolts, it is clear i am sincerly intrested in these topics. But I notice people turn a blind eye. Well the time wasted with the Xmas girls and the Ammos could be spent working on other pages. So how can wiki develop if those that are willing to create valid content cannot do their job.--Halqh حَلَقَة הלכהሐላቃህ 17:58, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it isnt about understanding the topic, the issue is tag reversion, no references. It doesnt matter if we understand the topic, the rules are the rules. People cannot revert tags, they cannot add original reasearch or opinion. So this is the issue we all have to maintain, quality behaviour. chow--Halqh حَلَقَة הלכהሐላቃህ 21:56, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks again, the main concern is that no one bullies and circumvents rules, its very simple edit in good faith, a dispute is healthy, but it must involve listening, and following of the rules, what good are rules when i state them clear and they ignore them?--Halqh حَلَقَة הלכהሐላቃህ 22:38, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moved to Talk:List of ethnic slurs#925 `'mikka 15:24, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Message on my talk page: I put it because I don't want to talk too much and I don't like wikipedians who spend 90% of their editing socializing in talk pages, sending smileys and barnstars to each other. Double negative is because if someone really wants to, I will answer. Thank you for reminding me my own rule: to discuss articles in article talk pages, where other people can join the discussion: wikipedia is collaboration. `'mikka 15:43, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand and agree about socializing, I was correcting your English grammar. This after you posted on MY talk page about something from an article. It struck me as rude, and condescending. I went to your talk page and saw a bunch of .. stuff and the comment, "Please don't leave me any messages here. Most probably they will not be unanswered (Or something to that effect.) Again, I thought, what an arrogant man. I was hot under the collar at the time, and instead wanted to respond to YOU, not on my page, as you did on mine. And to advise you that your usage of English was incorrect. This would be correct: "Most likely they will not be answered" or "Most likely they will be unanswered." These examples are correct grammar and plainly says what I believe you meant.
<sigh> I didn't want to say it plainly. It is a joke. And a test. So far you are only the third person to notice it. Most people simply read it "Most probably they will be unanswered", and good for them :-) `'mikka 17:31, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, are you socializing with me? You made a smiley face. I like humor, but make jokes understandable and use correct English. Oh, I understood the meaning, but it was incorrect. LOL. It still pissed me off. We English majors are picky, ya know? :-] <tone is light, friendly and humorous> Jeeny 17:42, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, please change the wording to what you wrote up there and that most people understand it to mean, so it is correct English grammar. Or I'll obsess about it for days. UGH. :) Jeeny 18:01, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

See my comments on Talk:List of ethnic slurs. Thanks. Jeeny 16:07, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Anna Nicole Smith and all that

[edit]

Thanks Jeeny for your reply on TMZ and ANS entries. I found it persuasive. I have noticed all your hard work on ANS. Altho I think you sometimes edit excessively, I appreciate your commitment to quality. PS: I am writing a book on writing fo social scientists. I am wondering if I need to add a chapter on writing for Wikipedia (semi-seriously query). Which brings up another query: why isn't "Wikipedia" in the Wikipedia spelling checker? I just got the little red line, and had to click on Add. Bellagio99 19:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome. You are correct that I edit excessively, at times. I'm pretty new here, not that that is an excuse, but I often feel overwhelmed at times with all the rules, syntax, markup language and hard to find "how to" information (beyond the five pillars). Learning that, or trying to, and doing research, I get tired and sometimes press the wrong button, like the enter key instead of shift, and viola...EDIT among other embarrassing reasons. Funny you should ask me about Wikipedia spelling checker, although I'm flattered, I did not know there even was one. I use my own sometimes, and it can be very cumbersome with all the markup language, people names, signatures, etc. Another reason I over edit sometimes. I think it's a great idea to include a chapter on writing for Wikipedia for your book of social scientists. This is, afterall, one great big social network and very exiting, new concept. I must commend you on your efforts and ambition. I would not attempt such a thing, as I know my limitations... most times. Good luck, and Cheers! Jeeny 20:23, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Truly amused by your syntax ("over amused") and typos ("afterall"), etc. here, when you are a stickler on real Wikipedia pages;-) Bellagio99 20:29, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, OMG, I did notice them, and was going to fix them, but hey, this is my talk page. It's informal and I am lazy in my own space. ;P Jeeny 20:33, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Now it's bothering me. LOL. "Your welcome" = "you're welcome" ... and others. After all, I feel compelled to edit this page. Sheesh, I'm going to look around Wikipedia to correct other's mistakes. ;-p Jeeny 20:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Wow, I must have been punch drunk while writing that up there. Sheesh, I really sounded very "manic" yikes. Blah blah blah. Did you know that driving while sleep deprived is like driving drunk? Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. (It's true, though) :) Jeeny 04:06, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

You're right. ANS is pretty in pink. It is her color. G'nite. Bellagio99 04:38, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aw, thanks. I saw many articles with garish colors, in my opinion, like bright yellow, dark purple in the info boxes. When I first saw the comments about the change I was expecting to see some weird and crazy background or the whole page as bright pink. lol The pink bar at the top of the box is so subtle and "it was her color". __Jeeny 16:22, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit]

Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia whose contributors are the readers themselves today I attemped to produce an easier connection (which I really thought it was needed) between the article of a city and the major external services relating to its geographical coordinates. At the present State of the Art Google is a sort of standard in this respect and I've thought that now it's time to have this link directly embedded into the infobox. It is true that a complete external service is already permanently linked on the top right side of many city articles, under "coordinates", by means of the templates of the coor and geo* families and http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/geo/geohack.php?, but as a user I did find not very practical having to open that link and to scroll the long and always growing list of geohack in search of the maybe most requested today (in its 2 most popular versions): Google Maps and Google Earth. So I've thought -maybe wrongly?- that a discussion wasn't even needed if I was simply trying to use some parameters (latitude and longitude) already present in the city infobox and attempting the best layout of their easy and (today) needed quick link. Under the infobox city title seemed to me the best and practical place (for its immediate use), but if it is too invasive for the eye the same can be done under the map and the geo coordinates below. So now, if you agree, following the suggestions received, I'll try to move the code I produced to that location inside the infobox. Sorry for my bad English, but I was and I am really trying to help :)--Florenus 20:41, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK I understand :) But believe me: with GE geolocations will be a must very soon everywhere because it really works! and wikipedia should stay in line. When you'll have a better computer you'll let me know ....
Anyway don't worry: when GE is not installed its link in the cities infobox doesn't make any damage: it simply doesn't work. Tnnx & Have a good day! --Florenus 21:38, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your cleanup on the article. After I deleted the 2 existing versions of articles about this individual for being completely unsourced, I'd like to see this one expand along the lines of what is attributable, and you've done a nice start on that.--Isotope23 15:54, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank YOU. I left a message on your LONG talk page. You the bomb. __Jeeny 16:13, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
I contacted the original author with a request for sources and an offer help format them. They replied on the talkpage of one of the deleted articles (Talk:Mar Yokhannan Seman Essaie). IMO, this is a very good faith editor who just needs a bit of help with the way things work around here. Per that message though, sourcing on this could be a bit tricky... and thanks for the reminder... Time I archived that talkpage!--Isotope23 16:14, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I don't know why the editor put a hangon tag on their talkpage, but I removed it. that tag flags the page as one listed for deletion...--Isotope23 20:55, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree he is a good faith editor. I could have sworn his/her user page changed when you deleted the first article and added the new one. I don't know why he put "hangon" his talk page. I guess he got confused. I keep talking to him on his page. Trying to help. Yes, it is going to be difficult to research. Maybe things will change though as more editors get involved and the original author has his resources together. He said he is working on them. I'm still working on it, but coming up empty so far, well, just bits, tiny bits, of info. I did add another section on his user page explaining it should not be deleted, and a HELP call to you about it on your talk page. Thanks! :) Jeeny 21:05, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

RE:Your message

[edit]

I could protect your userpage and it would not effect your ability to edit the rest of the encyclopedia, but the fact is that the vandal only hit your page once from the look of it, so I'm not sure that is necessary right now. That IP is blocked right now (by another admin) and if they continue to vandalize when the block ends I will block them for a longer period of time; indefinitely if need be. Let me know if you notice this IP vandalizing again and I can deal with them.--Isotope23 13:21, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

virginia tech

[edit]

You have several times added incorrect information that contradicts reliable sources. Please refrain from doing so again.

To inform you as to the correct history, Virginia tech is the single deadliest american school shooting, emphasis on shooting. The Bath school disaster was not a shooting. It is also the single deadliest american civilian shooting in history, again, emphasis on civilian shooting. The prior two deadliest shootings were Luby's with 23 dead, and San ysidro with 21 dead. Since 33 died at Virginia tech, it has obviously surpassed Luby's.

This information was sourced from yahoo news, AP, Cnn.com and Foxnews.com so please stop reverting it. SWATJester On Belay! 06:29, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I disagree. The article is contradicting. I understand that the V. Tech and the Bath disaster are different only because of the method used. I do agree that shooting should be emphasized, but that's not how the article reads. News sources are unreliable. I just ask to be consistent and clear and make sure that the reader can understand the context of the article. It seems to go on about school shootings, then it talks about massacres that happened in a prison and/or in a restaurant, etc. One killer, then two killers, etc. Also, stating "worse in the history" "worse ever in the world" and then have the number not match up is embarrassing and INACCURATE. Wikipedia is not the News service. Like I said, the news gets it wrong a lot of the time. Is it a massacre by shooting? Is it a killing by one killer? Is it a school shooting? Or is it just a massacre? Sounds nitpicky right? Well I don't believe it is. This is an encyclopedia, not the news. Keep it clear and consistant. Reliable sources are only part of it. It has to be understood by the reader. What is it? Jeeny 06:45, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

The Mather School

[edit]

Hi, I've nominated an article you worked on, The Mather School, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the "hook" for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created on April 14 where you can improve it if you see fit. Regards, howcheng {chat} 00:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I created it. OMGosh. Now I'm scared. Jeeny 00:03, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Updated DYK query On 18 April, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Mather School, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks, I really appreciate the acknowledgment. It's (unfortunately) not often that someone notices and takes the effort to express thanks, from my experience, anyway. Again, I appreciate it. Take care. Sicilianmandolin 22:10, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeeny, I've re-added the content with an accurate citation, so that the reader doesn't have to jump thru hoops to compare the two. --Uthbrian (talk) 02:09, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Thanks for the reply! Here are the lyrics in the play itself [1]. Looking back, I guess I overstated the 'verbatim' part-- some of it is missing and out of sequence, but several of the stanzas are taken word-for-word. --Uthbrian (talk) 03:32, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the change I made: [2]. Do you think it's accurate? By the way, nice working with you! --Uthbrian (talk) 03:45, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Made some minor changes. See this instead: [3]. --Uthbrian (talk) 03:47, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Why did you undo my comment I made on the Ghosthunters Discussion page? --76.171.9.67 09:07, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: I am an AOL user, I figure that might be a problem. --76.171.9.67 09:08, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I just looked at your IP's talk page and I do see that I did give the IP a bunch of warnings. I will have to look further though, to see what the reason. But judging by the warnings I left, it had to be someone deliberately vandalizing pages. Plus, I would never undo or edit a comment on a discussion page, unless it was libel or blatant vandalism. So, you're right, it probably wasn't you I was reverting, but the IP. That happens a lot with AOL and any IP user really. That's why it's a good idea to register an account so there is no confusion like this. Jeeny 13:39, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
I just looked at the Ghost Hunters talk page and it seems someone else reverted you today. Someone using your account on the 15th was making a bunch of blatant vandal edits including one on my page. It was blocked by an administrator but not because of me, but because of the edits the person using the IP at the time. I put an IP message on the IP account just now too. Please register an account, so this doesn't happen and good people like yourself will not be blocked because of someone who just wants to play around. Sorry for the confusion. Jeeny 13:53, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Grandaunt v. Great Aunt

[edit]

Please see cousin to see why you are wrong. Thank you. Stanley011 22:01, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I came up with a brilliant compromise. There is no way you can dislike it. Stanley011 03:12, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is his mother's aunt. If you don't "know" that to be true, then take it up with The Guardian, the source I cited stating that it is his mother's aunt. Stanley011 03:26, 21 April 2007 (UTC).

Now as to whether it's his maternal grandmother's or grandfather's sister (or spouse of one of their brothers) is more specificity then I care to achieve here. But clearly "mother's aunt" is correct, and more specific then either grandaunt or greataunt. Stanley011 03:30, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I provided my sources, so it cannot possibly be my POV. And there is no consensus as to whether it should be "mother's aunt" or "great aunt". I say let's put it up for a vote. Let's see how liberal you truly are. Stanley011 15:12, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See this discussion Stanley011 15:19, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will remind you to mind the 3 revert rule. Thank you. Stanley011 18:06, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I quit (Personal attack removed)

Civility

[edit]

this edit summary significantly falls below the standards set in WP:CIVIL. If you want to leave, do so, but don't try to vandalise pages or attack other users in the process - you'll just get yourself blocked. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 18:59, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what has happened, but I read your old user page and I really liked it. I'm sorry to see you leaving and I hope you'll change your mind. Lova Falk 19:19, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Stanley011 has also been blocked, in that case for WP:3RR violation. You are encouraged to return and edit constructively again when your block expires. Vandalism when leaving, however, is not taken lightly. But I understand you were frustrated, and if you don't repeat this, it will be easily forgotten in the future. Peace, coelacan19:26, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please Stay

[edit]

Jeeny, Ever since we edited together, I've had your user page on my watch list. I've valued your commitment and contribution, even if sometimes, I felt you overdid them. But please stick around. You make Wikipee better and more fun! If you need to, just take a Wikibreak. Bellagio99 19:46, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aw, Bellagio, why'd ya have to be so nice? (You too, Lava Falk, even though I've never "seen" you before)
Bellagio, you sociology professor you, or whatever you are. You even have my heart on your user page. That made me cry. :( Wikipee? WTH is Wikipee? I got so upset! That "kid" was pushing the envelop and I bit like a hungry animal. My silly sense of justice escalated me into becoming a raving "lunatic" (I love that word ... well, with a Boston accent, it just sounds so...funny.), and I became possessed by an evil spirit. (kidding, really, I don't believe in evil spirits, just people).
And, guess what? I'm not a teenager. <embarrassed look> Far from it. I know I'm acting like one. I'm about, oh, say...25-29 years old mentally, but a little older than that physically. ;) I've been kissed by President John F. Kennedy, to give you a clue. Even though I was just a kid at the time, and it was on the cheek. He said I was thoughtful, "a little cutie", and that I was kind, before he kissed me. It was during the Dorchester Day parade, just a few months before he was killed in Texas. (there's a longer story but I'll spare you) Just to get an idea of my real age. <hangs head in shame>
You know, it was so frustrating... for me, anyway... because it seems like this place is mostly run by kids. I don't mean they act like kids, well, I do (me included), but I've seen their user pages and I'm shocked to see a user box that says, "I am a teenager" and "I am an administrator" and "I am in high school" "I am going to be king of the World when I grow up, so bow down to me now" and so on.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I admire a lot of them, as they seem so mature and dedicated to this project.<sigh> <hangs head in shame, again> This..this..person was the second person, who I believed, to relish being a knucklehead, and would not listen to reason. MY reason!, the queen of reason..dontchano. (Yeah, right) You are one of the few I've dealt with that seems somewhat normal. lol. (that's a compliment) And don't criticizing my grammar, spelling or syntax. I'm rambling ... because... I can.
Well... you can criticize it all you want. I don't mind, in fact you made me laugh the last time you did.
I've never been arrested in my life, not even a speeding ticket. And, and...I've only been yelled at and punished by my mother... and that was years ago. This feels so... strange, although deserved. <hangs head in shame> (I bet it was a kid who banned me too) :) <really embarrassed look>
Thanks for sticking up for me. I deserve the time out. I've been a baaad girl. >-} Hey, I'm not crying anymore. Dang hormones. Oops, there I go again. <going back in the corner> Jeeny 22:49, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
ps; I feel better about this banning, since "Stanley" was banned also. (Sheesh, isn't that terribly 'childish' of me?) <hangs head in shame>
Well, Jeeny, if this is the worst trouble you've been in, you've had a sheltered life and needed a little adventure. And this one is rather innocuous. I thought you were a teen -- and so told the admin -- because you were acting like a teen. The real bad deed was wiping out lotsa stuff. I think Va Tech is percolating thru too many psyches now. So just take a time out and come back into Wikipee. (my own fun name for Wikipedia to remind me not to take it so seriously.). Q: how could you have been kissed by JFK who died 43+ years ago? Bellagio99 01:59, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, I have not lived a sheltered life. If you only knew! I've had much adventure, thankyouverymuch. See how much one assumes about others over the internet? People are complex. You, as a social scientist, should know that, more than most. I rarely snap at people in real life, though I love an oral debate. My thoughts run much faster than my fingers can move -- and I'm a lazy writer -- so I type/blurt.
That was awful that I wiped out that article. It was the most childish thing I've done. I think. Well -- online, anyway. I'm an idiot on the internet -- not having the benefit of body language, facial expressions, and all, is difficult -- for me (it's so frustrating) and need to calm down. The break is very good, and I thank Coelacan for that. You are right that a lot of people are affected by the VTech tragedy and emotions are running high. I know I'm very disturbed by it.
I like your word, "Wikipee", I think I'll steal it. (Oh, how else do you think I could have been kissed by JFK?) A: I'm old and I have cats. Jeeny 04:56, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm back

[edit]

Hey, Jeeny, I'm glad you're going to stick around. Not only would I feel like a real jerk if you left, but it looks like you'd be missed. Your block has expired now, and I've attempted to lift any autoblock that may have been active. So you should be able to edit outside your talk page now. You're not obligated to keep that ugly block template that I left up there; feel free to remove it. A little advice for the future: if you're getting close to breaking WP:3RR, just sit back and wait for someone else to make the change you want. If you're right, someone else will pick up the slack. If nobody else does, then perhaps there isn't as much support for your way as you thought (or perhaps everyone's sleeping). These things often work themselves out over the course of a couple of days. Do drop by my talk page if you need advice or assistance in the future. =) Peace, coelacan22:01, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'm glad all's well. Completely unrelated advice now: it's really helpful for others if your signature has a link back to your userspace. If you want your sig to be black instead of the default blue/purple, you can use this: [[User:Jeeny|<span style="color: black">Jeeny</span>]] which looks like this: Jeeny 22:45, 22 April 2007 (UTC). You should be able to alter this at Special:Preferences by copying the above into the signature box and clicking "enable raw signature". But, you don't have to. coelacan22:45, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OMGosh, thank you! I though it was a dead black link because it was my own (thinking others where able to click on it from their end). LOL. Thank you so much for that advice! Going to do that now. If I can find my "signature box" that is. :) Jeeny 23:02, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Talk page links look different on your own talk page; see how my "acan" is bolded on my talk page. So I replied on my talk page, to show you what the examples look like on every page except your own. coelacan23:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right back atcha Jeeny! If you decide to stay, I look forward to working with you. Stanley011 23:44, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, here's what I told Bellagio. Same for you; your email appears to already be enabled (although not everyone can be emailed by you; if they don't have their email link turned on then you see a link to send them anything). If you wanted to place a more obvious link on your user page, yours would be Special:Emailuser/Jeeny. If your email isn't working, even though it looks to be set up properly, you could ask for help at the WP:HELPDESK or WP:VPT. coelacan01:35, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"butting in" is the right term, eh? Like a goat butting his head in. Gotta get back to taxes. Bellagio99 01:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
