Merge from articles about individual ships

[edit]

I very much doubt any ship from Category:Babylon 5 spacecraft. At first I thought that maybe a few could squeeze by. Maybe. But in the end it is that not just the majority byt all fail WP:GNG and should be merged here. Currently tagged for merger: EAS Agamemnon, EAS Churchill, Black Star (Babylon 5), Excalibur (Crusade), Explorer class starship,Frazi heavy fighter,G'Quan-class heavy cruiser, Hyperion class heavy cruiser, Liandra, Nial class heavy fighter, Nova class dreadnought, Omega-class destroyer, Primus class battlecruiser, Raider Fighter (Babylon 5), Shadow Planet Killer, Sentri medium fighter, Sharlin Class Warcruiser, Starfury, Sun Hawk-class gunship, T'Loth-class cruiser, Trigati, Valen-class cruiser, Vorchan and White Star (Babylon 5). Also note former Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Victory class destroyer there might have been others that have been deleted/merged already. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus|[[ reply here 19:12, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge all - This list itself could probably be deleted without losing much, but it could also have the potential for general development and reception sections depending on the content. It certainly wouldn't hurt to pair down those articles either way. TTN (talk) 19:58, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all except Starfury Based on its real world impact as already described in its own article. I have enough RSs to defend pretty much any of these--As I did at the afd of Sharlin Class Warcruiser and the afd of Raider Fighter (Babylon 5). However, astute reviewers of each AfD will note that I proposed a merge to a (not yet created at that point) list article. Also, while WP:NTEMP, the fact is that Babylon 5 is almost 24 years old, and all the RS commentary on the ships themselves that will ever be published has already been published. A merge to a list has made sense for 10+ years. Jclemens (talk) 19:28, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all I think this is a fair way to go, although possibly there is a case for having a separate Star Fury article. Dunarc (talk) 16:54, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The Omega-class destroyer article has substantial real-life information about design (same for Starfury), so it probably would become an exception as the remaining separate article for a starship class. — NickTheRed37 (0x54 · 0x43) 15:09, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all I just came across EAS Agamemnon, which is wholly uncited and reads as in-universe. This being the most famous of this class of vessel, if there were real-world traction, it would have happened on this article of all the Omega class. I can't see any reason or need for this article to not be merged into this parent article. I see List_of_Star_Trek_Starfleet_starships_ordered_by_class#Galaxy_class as an example of how it should be done. So much of what we have here on the B5 ships is pure fancruft. Time to trim. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:38, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'd support a merge to Omega-class destroyer for the Agamemnon, because that DOES have substantial design/development commentary. Please review the WP:CRUFT discussion of the term; it's needlessly pejorative, and "overly detailed" would work just as well. Jclemens (talk) 00:12, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • I wouldn't support such a merge. In looking at Omega-class destroyer, I do not see a single reference to any reliable sources. I do see external links to two fansites and two dead websites. The level of detail expressed in Omega-class destroyer would be appropriate for a Wikia, but not here. I'm quite happy to use the term "cruft" here. While I don't mean anything pejorative, describing this content as "of importance only to a small population of enthusiastic fans of the subject in question" is accurate. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:04, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List organization

[edit]

Does anyone object to grouping ship types by creating race, a la List of starships in Stargate? I think it would read a lot cleaner than simply alphabetically. Jclemens (talk) 19:33, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The ideal list should be sortable by race and other elements (name, first episode appeared, and so on), so I'd suggest using a sortable list. No objections to any other restructuring. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:42, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But grouping ships by civilizations appears more logical. This way, we won’t have Minbari starships separated by Narn or Drazi ones. Anyone who would be interested in a specific civilization’s fleet would just look at the corresponding section. I may try to do something here to resolve this, among other problems. — NickTheRed37 (0x54 · 0x43) 14:38, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
P. S. I would like to actually go on and separate spacecraft classes from notable individual ships like Agamemnon, Excalibur or Liandra. This would reduce clutter even more, especially considering that the Omega class alone has at least 3 notable ships (Agamemnon, Alexander, Churchill), each with its individual and unique story. — NickTheRed37 (0x54 · 0x43) 14:44, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
