Problems
- There was a problem caused by too many requests to the database on November 14. [1]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf4 was added to test wikis on November 14. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on November 19 and all Wikipedia wikis on November 21 (calendar).
- The new Search tool (CirrusSearch) will be added to
*.wikimedia.org
, Wikimania and Wikisource wikis on November 19, and Wiktionary wikis on November 21 (except where it's already available). Once it is added, you can test it by adding&srbackend=CirrusSearch
to the address of the search results page. It will become the main search engine on Wikivoyage wikis on November 21. [2] - The MassMessage tool will be added to all wikis on November 19 instead of November 14. It will make it simpler to send messages across wikis. [3]

Resolution of NPOV discussion
Hi Jackmcbarn, you reverted an NPOV tag on a page that I created Talk:PH Media Group and I was wondering if you might help by providing some advice about how the page could be changed to remove the NPOV tag. I'm struggling to identify where I might be able to amend it as I was very careful to merely state facts and back them up with citations when I created the page. Help would be really appreciated. Thanks. Jenniferlever (talk) 17:13, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- I've replied on the article's talk page. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:36, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying but it didn't really help me in trying to amend the article. I'm looking for a bit of guidance if you can please help me.Jenniferlever (talk) 22:58, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Pratham and the NJRS secondary school
Hello Jack, you can call me 74. Happened to notice your conversation with Bbb23 about Pratham's article. User_talk:Bbb23#New_R._S._J._Public_School_Senior_Secondary They are a beginner, and we are trying to extract cites from them, but all the template-noise on their talkpage has made them temporarily immune to the clue-transference procedure. Can you hold off on AfD temporarily please, while we try to get Notability ascertained? Thanks. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 19:05, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- I wasn't going to AfD the article. The problem with it is that having a list of subjects offered at the school, etc. isn't important to the article and should be removed from it. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:37, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- There are a couple editors that have been managing the article-content (WikiDan61 and Eastmain). I will ping them via the article talkpage about this; my involvement with high-school-related-articles is a total of two so far. :-) Thanks for improving wikipedia. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 06:34, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Go ahead and threaten me more.
All that collection of jerks do is threaten me. I tried to come and suggest improvements and I get them calling me names, claiming I misrepresent sources (I DO NOT) and threatening me if I "misrepresent sources" again meaning if I speak and I'm not agreeing with them. This whole place is fucking corrupt.

Swami Nithyananda
Hi, Can you please provide the reason why you found my edits as not constructive. Nithyananda's reputation in my country is well known as controversial godmen ( I provided references). The wikipedia statement of him being a "mystic" is misleading and not true as it doesn't show any references?
Lokayata91 (talk) 04:06, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- I think saying that in the lead is a little bit POV. I'll let it stand for now, but it's likely to be reverted again by another editor. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:11, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. There are similar articles like Asaram Bapu which state that they are controversial personalities..So i thought the edit was within wikipedia's rules. Cheers.Lokayata91 (talk) 04:16, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- It might be; it's a borderline case. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:17, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- I am quoting from what I wrote on Lokayata91 's talk page. I have to agree with Jackmcbarn's observations. Your edits appear purely as an attempt at character assassination. Understand that all the controversies against Swami Nithyananda are only allegations. And that he is the Guru of more than 10 million people worldwide. And not only that, he is the head of the oldest apex body of Hinduism. So calling him self styled is sort of like calling the pope a self styled leader. Please don't keep reverting the changes people are making to the article without reason. WP:AVOIDEDITWAR Acnaren (talk) 17:48, 23 November 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acnaren (talk • contribs)
- If the "self-styled" godman was out of hand , It would have been reverted by ADMINS. The swami nithyananda page is being monitored by admins like Sean.Hoyland and Doug.Weller. Just because you find nithyananda as a god does not mean the world media and the rest of the world sees him like that as well. Again and again you are engaging in revert wars, If you feel that he is not a controversial god man, Then discuss on talk page instead of blindly blanking sourced information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lokayata91 (talk • contribs) 19:37, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Problems
- Wikis that are currently testing CirrusSearch had problems with search results on November 18 from 16:00 to 20:00 UTC.
Future
- There will be no major code changes on the week of November 25 because many developers will be on holiday for Thanksgiving.
- The editing interface of

Protection Template
Thank you for the information, and for your concern. Honestly, I just don't want people to care. It's my user page, and I don't like bots going over work on a personal page. In other words, it's the principle that's the point: If I wanted that removed, I would have done it myself. No one cares. Sorry, I'm not trying to be harsh. I just really get tired of bots going around changing things. And my user page isn't some huge popular page. I'm not a mega editor with 50 bots and 10 new talk page items a day. Have a nice day.
rJaytalk 01:36, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- Even though your user page isn't popular, when you incorrectly use a protection template, your user page gets added to a highly monitored category that we try to keep empty at all times. Unless you have a really good reason for an incorrect protection template, it should be removed so the category can be cleaned up. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:35, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:Know Your Roots, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo, or other unlikely search term.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Jimmybenge (talk) 03:08, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

This newsletter is now posted using MediaWiki message delivery.
New features
- The CommonsMetadata feature was added to all wikis. It creates metadata information about multimedia files (like their license) that can be read automatically by computer programs. It not only works for Commons, but for all wikis, and you can use it for files on your wiki by editing templates used to describe metadata. [7]
- JavaScript code used on Wikimedia sites is now saved locally on your computer to load faster. [8]
- You can now paste formatted content copied from external sources (not just as plain text) into VisualEditor; this includes copy/pasting from other VisualEditor windows. [9]
- You can now open VisualEditor by adding
?veaction=edit
to the page URL, regardless of your user preferences. [10] - Many bugs have been fixed, and VisualEditor should also look faster, for example when you save a page. [11]
Problems
- Due to issues, the new search tool ("CirrusSearch") was recently removed from wikis where it was enabled, then added again. [12]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf6 was added to test wikis on December 5. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on December 10 and all Wikipedia wikis on December 12 (calendar).
- The old Etherpad tool (replaced by a new version) will be removed on December 30, 2013. You can still save old pads before that date using the old address: https://etherpad-old.wikimedia.org. [13]

New features
- You can now see a legend on Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist that explains the symbols used. [14]
- If your wiki is testing the new search tool ("CirrusSearch"), you can now test it by adding "New search" in your Beta features preferences. [15]
- The toolbar is now simpler; all text styles (bold, italics, underline, subscript, etc.) are in the same menu, and the "More" menu is called "Insert". [16]
- You can now use a basic tool to add special characters to your text. You can add more characters (useful in your language) by editing the MediaWiki interface on translatewiki.net.
- The tool to add and edit mathematical text is now called "formula". [17]
Problems
- There was a problem with the "Create a book" tool (Collection); books could only be exported to PDF format. The change has been undone. [18]
- The log-in system for external tools ("OAuth") was broken on wikis that tested the new search tool. It was fixed last week. [19] [20]
- Because of a bug, this newsletter is delivered to users using the new MediaWiki message delivery, and to community pages using the old EdwardsBot. [21]
Future
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf7 was added to test wikis on December 12. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on December 17 and all Wikipedia wikis on December 19 (calendar).
- You will soon be able to select the language of SVG images that have translations using a drop-down menu on the image page. (see example) [22]
- GLAMToolset, a tool to help GLAM groups (like museums) upload many pictures to Commons, will be added to Commons on December 17. [23]
- A Draft namespace will be added to the English Wikipedia to make it easier to create new pages. You will be able to use VisualEditor for drafts if you have enabled it. [24] [25]

Deprecated templates and speedy delete
Jack,
I know the discussion has only been going for a couple days, but not a single person is in favor. Sounds like a clear case of WP:SNOW to me. I am of the thought that no one should revert because someone might disagree, but only because they personally disagree, but if you do think deprecated templates should be deleted, you need to say so on the talk page. Ego White Tray (talk) 15:31, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- It's not really that I'm opposed to it, just that it feels like changing that during the discussion, even if it is heading for a snow close, is short-circuiting process. If the change were remade, I wouldn't revert again, though. Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:16, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jack, It made more sense to continue here, rather than to keep adding help alerts on my talk page.
Re Azomite, will you please be specific re what you mean by this? "It seems to be covering only the viewpoint that the minerals are good, which by the way it reads, doesn't seem to be something everyone agrees on. Per WP:NPOV, other viewpoints should be covered." Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:40, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
By "the" minerals, do you mean minerals in-general or the minerals as this page's topic. I read and re-read the paragraph and it relays several opinions on the positives of mineral nourishment in our soil systems. There is actually zero science that suggests otherwise. So curious what you mean by it not being something everyone agrees on? That idea is pretty universal. If you have a specific idea for an edit, please share it. Thank you. (Victoriasays (talk) 00:15, 30 December 2013 (UTC))
Wait, wait - I reread your notes and made an edit. When you are able, please let me know if this did the trick. Thanks in advance. (Victoriasays (talk) 00:21, 30 December 2013 (UTC))
- As I reread the section, I don't see any purpose it serves at all by being in the article. I think your best bet would be to just remove it. Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:33, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
The paragraph in-question doesn't mention the page name at all. Kindly explain what about it sounds like an ad to you. An "ad" for what? (Victoriasays (talk) 23:33, 2 January 2014 (UTC))
- This was resolved over IRC. Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:04, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Llinase
Dear Jackmcbarn, I'm working on the issues you said were the reasons for the rejection of my submission; I'll submit another attempt in a week or so. I'm the designer & builder & one-time shipmaster of Llinase & for a decade or so, we operated it as a passenger carrying charter vessel. We sold it three weeks before the 9/11 terrorist attacks so I can assure you we are not making this entry attempt in any promotional or advertising capacity, although I have written a book about my adventures with the boat. The book is out of print, though I'd like to include a reference (a link?) to it if that is acceptable. My son tells me that I should put the boat on Wikipedia, he says that it is unique & it would be a darned shame if I don't do it before I snuff it. (I'm 78). I'm quite happy try to meet any requirements you see fit to impose. So to see what I'm on about, if you're able, I appreciate it if you could look at the very short film clips which can be accessed under Llinase & catamaran on Google. Regards, Llinase (talk) 11:07, 31 December 2013 (UTC) Les G Thompson, user name; Llinase.
- First off, you should request a change of usernames at WP:CHU. There's more details about this on your talk page. Also, you should read WP:PSCOI. You shouldn't write about things you have a close connection with. If they're truly notable, someone else will write about them. I'm also concerned about the notability of it; see WP:GNG for our guidelines on that. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:50, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Other option: BLPPROD
For living people, in the future you can use the BLPPROD rather than just PROD. With the BLPPROD sources other than IMDB need to be provided. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:09, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- It was sourced to the India Times when I PROD'd it, so I couldn't use BLPPROD. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:29, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- so it was, i missed that.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:33, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Blanking of my userspace and talk page
With all due respect, what on earth made you think that was appropriate? The content on there was harming no one and had nothing to do with you; it was not within an article and it disrupted Wikipedia in no way whatsoever. It is impossible to imagine that anyone would find it offensive. I see that you are not an admin. I suggest that if you have a problem, you take it to them instead of blanking my page. KingHooves (talk) 04:07, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Having 30kb worth of consecutive 0s that make pages stretch all the way out to the right has no value. My edits couldn't have been further from "vandalism" as you called them, and the fact that I'm not an admin doesn't give me any less right to do what I did. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:09, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, but you knew you were going to get called out on that one. Just delivering the truth. KingHooves (talk) 04:11, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Your changes, by the way, have been fully reverted. Stay off my user and talk pages unless you plan to contribute to discussion there. KingHooves (talk) 04:13, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

William Henry Harrison & Henry Hurst
Don't know why you would be so rude as to edit my contribution to information on William Henry Harrison since my ancestor Henry Hurst was Harrison's aid de camp, a Major in the Grand Army of the Republic and fought in the War of 1812 (Battle of Tippecanoe - 1811) and rode along side Harrison at his inauguration. In my honest opinion the Hurst Family has contributed more to American history than any other colonial family, has been instrumental in every war America has been engaged in and done more to save American Lives than any other family in American history. Samuel Need Hurst published the Virginia Law Reports. Henry Hurst was a prominent lawyer, soldier and politician. Allan Forrest Hurst was a POW in the Civil War. Felden Hurst was a Lt. Col. US Calvary for the Federal Forces in Tennessee during the Civil War. I could go on but suffice it to say, the Jaws of Life was designed by the inventor of the Hurst Shifter; and my own mother was an anthropologist and historian and for my part I was involved in the Middle East Peace process in 2005 and 2006 to establish a UN Regional Human Rights/Terrorism Court in East Jerusalem and establish mass manufacturing of the electronic automobile in the Middle East, so next time you decide to edit my contributions consult me first!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.246.14.57 (talk) 01:16, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

I corrected the name of a broadcasting studio mentioned on that page. It was incorrectly spent 'Language' instead of 'Langage'. You may Google it if you wish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.247.53.97 (talk) 01:40, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gremio de Artistas Latino Americanos Inc.
Hello, thank you for your kind attention to my submissions, in your comment I see a list should be removed. Which list is that? I noticed I have the directors and advisors listed in the body of the paragraph with their field of expertise, and beneath it in a column fashion as directors in Florida. is this the list that should be erased? If so, I believe they should be included in some fashion, since without their help, there wouldn't be a guild.
I realize the list could also be the executives of the company. Again, I am not sure, because these are the people who lend their time pro bono, lawyers, designers, coordinators and other personnel. I am just not sure. Any help or greater clarity forthcoming would be helpful in the extreme. And would allow me to edit accordingly without destroying the very essence of what the organization is and does. Thank you again. And thanks to all editors who may see this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.8.13.250 (talk) 01:54, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, that's the list that should be erased. If you want to put a few names somewhere, make an infobox and put them in there. Remember, Wikipedia is not a corporate directory. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:00, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- Very quick reply. Appreciated. Gremio de Artistas Latino Americanos Inc. Thank you for the clarification and interest. Will be doing this soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.8.13.250 (talk) 02:05, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
Hey This is VERY important. READ THIS NOW
The superintendent of the little rock school district is actually dr dexter Suggs. They hired him this year so I would like to thank you for having wrong information on the school district. Sincerely a concerned student in the LRSD aka sirwhitelightning. Mamiwata Film
Hi! Can you delete Mamiwata Film page? I just tried to get used to Wikipedia before I write the actual article, but I realised now that I cannot go back since I save the page. Is it possible to save a Wikipedia page as draft? How can I do this? I deleted all the content since it was just some copy paste from the website. I didn't want to publish that, just to learn how to use all these things. I am really lost here :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mythicalmermaid (talk • contribs) 18:38, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- I've tagged Mamiwata film for deletion, so the next administrator that sees it will delete it. If you want to make a draft article, you should use the Article Wizard. Let me know if you have any more questions. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:49, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Hmm.
Unless you have been to Inverkeithing High School, don't revert my edits. There's a reason I'm reverting edits by a teacher, trying to hide some less than attractive aspects of the school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.173.16.151 (talk) 02:04, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

C++/CX
Hi Jack,
C++/CX (component extensions) is a language extension for C++ compilers from Microsoft that [...cut...] brings a set of syntax and library abstractions that interface with the COM-based WinRT programming model in a way that is natural to native C++ programmers.
I program C++ for 25+ years. I don't think "CX" is natural for native C++ programmers. ATL or WRT is the natural way to interact with COM for C++ programmer. CX is very confusing language extension (considering already enormous C++11 complexity) to interact with COM.
I'm not alone, see here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/boost-devel-archive/TJU0MumVo_E or here, comments from dissatisfied C++ programmers: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vcblog/archive/2011/10/20/10228473.aspx
I believe C++/CX is used for the same old "MS Windows domination through pollution" goal... reminds me Java and J++ story, http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Visual_J%2B%2B
If you think your C++/CX opinion is more valuable - it's OK. (very wide grin) Sorry for the trouble.

Declined Sean Rush Article
Hello,
The article about Sean Rush an interior designer and fine artist was declined on January 16 because it said more references are needed. Does that mean we need to submit magazine articles that Sean Rush was in to be able to have his bio and info on Wikipedia? We did put the magazines under references do you need to see the actual article?
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.109.230.165 (talk) 18:04, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
