Edit warring on Barelvi and on editor talk pages.

Dear Jackmcbarn, I hope you are well. I notice that you blocked User:Lagoonaville once before. I'll be grateful if you will please look at his recent edits on the Barelvi page, its talk page and my own talk page. Thank you. Regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 08:12, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

I see this has already been taken care of. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you anyway for looking. Regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 16:31, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I saw you blocked 71.202.210.124 (talk · contribs). Please note this comment as well. It's clearly a continuation of the conversation ("All right this is the last thing I'll post on here") and has same long, ranting style as 71.202.210.124. The IP implicitly affirms the socks, or at least does not deny them, by saying "blocked, not banned...". See the matching name in the blog link at User:Pottinger's_cats, one of the socks. I probably wouldn't have mentioned this were not for the crazy anti-Semitic conspiracies coming from the Blastikus (talk · contribs) sock. Manul 17:10, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

@Manul: I don't have time to look over all of that right now. I advise you to go to WP:AIV or WP:SPI depending on how obvious it is. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:53, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Location map arguments

Hi Jackmcbarn, I Hope you are doing good. I have noticed a weird issue on ta:Module:Location map in Tamil Wikipedia. The arguments were never passed from template to Module functions. where I need to pass this by manual reference ta:Template:Location map. In turn It is difficult to pass all arguments for Location map+ modules. Can you please advise me how to pass multiple arguments without referring their names in wikipedia Template? or do you have any suggestion to resolve this argument pass issue in Tamil Wikipedia --Neechalkaran (talk) 18:50, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

@Neechalkaran: Everything should be fixed now. Let me know if anything isn't. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:52, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for quick response. I understood that namespace(eg:Template) needs to replaced with local namespace. Now I made few customization to override Tamil names in puspin map. Thank you so much --Neechalkaran (talk) 23:43, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
@Neechalkaran: That change was actually in the wrong place. I undid it and redid it in the right place. Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:01, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
After you undid, new errors were created please check ta:பகுப்பு:Pages with script errors. actually I just renamed the Tamil value which are given in pushin_map to right English value to point correct map. is there any workaround which can directly redirect to English name? i.e 'இலங்கை' needs to refer 'Sri Lanka' as both connected in wikidata--Neechalkaran (talk) 00:34, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
@Neechalkaran: The errors look like they were a caching issue, since all the new ones went away when I purged them. Rather than editing the module to make an alias, just create a redirect at the old name's location. For example, since ta:Template:Location map இலங்கை redirects to ta:Template:Location map Sri Lanka, using இலங்கை as a pushpin_map value will cause the Sri Lanka map to be loaded. For map definitions that are modules, the redirect syntax looks a little bit different. If you need to make one of them, look at Module:Location map/data/World as an example. That should all work with Wikidata. Is something about that not working with it? Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:44, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Help with Full Moon (MATTE event)

Now that MATTE Projects has been undeleted, just wondering how to change Full Moon (MATTE event) into its own article instead of a redirect. Thanks! OliverZD (talk) 20:22, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

You should wait until the new AfD finishes to make sure that it stays undeleted, so that you don't end up wasting work. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:06, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Blocked/banned user

I think that CSD category could do with clarifying. This isn't the first I've come across where they take it to be 'any edit by' instead of 'edits made AFTER the block/ban', which in practice must mean a sock, as they can't do it any other way. Perhaps 'sock' ought to be brought into the wording? I don't know how many our friend's tagged, but he's dealing with the remainder now. Peridon (talk) 20:14, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

I still need help with wikidata coords

Sorry, but I still can't see how to extract coords from wikidata, in a useful way. I just want values out, preferably long and lat separate, and icing on the cake would be separate values for deg-min-sec. Can't find any documentation anywhere. Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Wed 15:20, wikitime= 07:20, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

@Unbuttered Parsnip: mw.wikibase.getEntity().claims.p625[0].mainsnak.datavalue.value is a table containing longitude and latitude. See Module:Location map for a working example. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:27, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I really meant from within a regular page, something such as {{#invoke:Wikidata|getRawValue|P625|FETCH_WIKIDATA}}. I note that getValue and getRawValue both return the same thing for coords. It basically needs some sort of parser, such {{formatnum:}} to change that into something to put into {{coord}}. I'm thinking of some kind of {{replace|"coords"|{{|}}|regexp \°':\}}, although it might need a bit more, if either or both arcseconds field(s) not present. --Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Thu 17:50, wikitime= 09:50, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
@Unbuttered Parsnip: You want to get the coordinates from Wikidata yourself and then pass them to {{coord}}? Why? Just have {{coord}} itself fetch them from Wikidata. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:54, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Actually I meant {{infobox settlement}} or similar, where {{coord}} is deprecated. I have been in contact with @Frietjes: who told me she is / you are working on a module:infobox settlement. That seems a whole lot easier than what I had in mind. I'll wait for it to happen. --Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Sat 23:58, wikitime= 15:58, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
@Unbuttered Parsnip: Template:Infobox settlement calls Template:Geobox coor which in turn calls Template:Coord. As long as Template:Coord ends up getting called eventually, it will get the coordinates from Wikidata if they weren't provided to it. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:01, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Are you saying that removing coords from an {{infobox settlement}} will cause their extraction from wikidata instead? I tried it on one location, and nothing happened. Mind you, I didn't actually save it, just had a preview. BTW can you also confirm that coordinates either have both minutes (seconds), or neither.--Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Mon 23:17, wikitime= 15:17, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
@Unbuttered Parsnip: Can you link me to the page you tried? Also, I don't get what you're saying about minutes and seconds. There's nothing wrong with providing minutes and not seconds, and it already errors if you provide seconds and not minutes. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
(a) Like I said, I didn't save it because it didn't work (didn't work in preview). You could try just about anything, I tried Santa Fe, Cebu, which I have now updated with a template to parse wikidata return. Meanwhile Frietjes is working on an infobox update that collects all wikidata 'automatically'.
(b) I meant can the coords be lop-sided, e.g. latitude has minutes and seconds but longitude only has minutes? I.e. either both minutes (or seconds) are provided, or neither.--Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Mon 07:46, wikitime= 23:46, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject Microsoft Participants

How do I remove the User Talk: and display only the user name and link to user page? For the sake of asthetics (this is the participant page that shows up on all WikiProject Microsoft Pages). Thank You, STJMLCC (talk) 20:39, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

@STJMLCC: That's not easily done. The parser function that causes people to receive the mass mailings is what's generating the talk page link. Is it really necessary to change that? Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:09, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry I am late to reply, I just got back from LAX. If it is going to be very difficult to do, it is not necessary. But, it would be superb if it could be done. I say this because that list serves a multitude of important functions. Thank you again,

You recently deleted Concord Production Inc. as a CSD#G7. It is a real thing though, Bruce Lee's production company, and the request to delete (by a now banned editor) may not have been in good faith. Hey, about those titles with wiki markup that you have been moving ...

Hey Jackmcbarn. I just wanted to give you a quick heads-up about the titles that you have been moving from titles with wiki markup to titles without. First of all, thanks for restricting their existence. However, I want to give you a bit of a heads-up in regards to those titles: in the near future, I plan on creating another RfD like the one that I referenced to you previously to hopefully remove most of these titles once and for all. However, that can only be done without any disruption to Wikipedia if all incoming links are resolved after the page moves (for both articles that are moved and redirects) and if useful page histories are move to alternate titles (for redirects). Just a heads up. Also, if you would like to further help with this effort a bit, I have created a subpage in my user space to track the progress of this task; feel free to update the page if you so desire. In a nutshell, I created that page to track these titles and once all of the articles with wiki markup have been moved, edit histories have been transferred and incoming links fixed, I plan on making a new RFD nomination (I have started the draft of the nomination in the "Redirects" section so that the time-consuming chore of inputting the syntax and recalling each redirect's target does not have to be found again.) Steel1943 (talk) 23:54, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

@Steel1943: I'm thinking of a 4-stage process to get all of these fixed. The first stage, which I already started, is moving all of the non-redirects (except for the valid chemical names) to titles without markup. Once that's done, the second stage will be page-specific fixes, like article history under redirects that you mentioned. The third stage will by bypassing links, and the fourth stage will be RfD. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:20, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
However you think would resolve these issues works for me as well, as long as any of the previously-mentioned tasks do not get overlooked. Thanks! Steel1943 (talk) 01:37, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

hyphens

The hyphen in North-East is neither particularly correct nor incorrect, but simply a matter of taste. As it was hyphenated when the article was started the MOS recommends in such cases that it is retained. I'd appreciate it if you left it how it is! I don't understand why you decided to replace semi-protection on List of people from San Francisco with an edit filter. As shown by these edits, adding Annabeth isn't the only problem this page is faced with by anons trying tolist fictional people. And to quote from the instructions at Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested, "Filters are applied to all edits. Therefore, problematic changes that apply to a single page are likely not suitable for an abuse filter." עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 06:01, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

@Od Mishehu: Emailed you a reply. Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:55, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Having read your email, I have an answer - there's a good reason to semi-protect such lists: Even without this specific issue, these lists are frequently edited by anons/newcomers to include fictional characters and non-notable people. This has happenned before with this specific list - see here and here, for example. Semi protecting these lists helps deal with that. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:17, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
Such a semi-protection would have to essentially last forever, which isn't really desirable in mainspace. @Postdlf: Do you have any comments about this, since you originally wanted to switch from protection to the filter? Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:48, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
I had semi-protected that page multiple times before and the vandal would always return as soon as the protection expired. I don't personally have an objection to permanent semi-protection, but I think the community at large does and someone always comes along later and unprotects it on the theory that enough time has passed or whatever. An edit filter seemed like the best and most targeted way to prevent the problem in the first place without the labor of continually watching, reverting, and blocking, and without the side-effect of restricting possibly valid edits. At the time I asked for an edit filter, the vandalism only involved the one character name; it expanded only after Chase was made a forbidden addition to that page. postdlf (talk) 19:24, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the cleanup - wish those kinds of actions also had a thanks button. Just stupid vandalism, but still annoying to see people willing to make edits like that anywhere. Appreciate it! Ravensfire (talk) 19:30, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Edits on guide

Thanks you for your well-meaning edits, but Module:HtmlBuilder is not yet deprecated on other Wikis, so it still needs to be listed on those dependency pages. While not entirely up to date sufficient work has been done to install the module on over 50 different Wikis. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 23:12, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

@CFCF: It doesn't matter whether or not the other wikis have it marked deprecated. We still shouldn't import it to them, since our modules don't need it anymore (and if their modules need it, they'd already have it). Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:14, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
I'll fix that once we have a list over which Wikis have imported modules and which don't. Coming soon. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 23:24, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Vandal Blocker User Group

Hello Jackmcbarn, I've been highly interested in your original idea about a vandal blocker/stopper/fighter user group since you originally had this idea around 2 months back at Wikipedia:Village pump (idea lab)/Archive 15#New "vandal stopper" user group. There was a similar need like this for those users who wanted to work with protected templates and modules which ultimately lead to Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Template editor user right and finally created the template editor user right for them. And today it is highly useful for those people who do not want to be admins and just want to work in their area of interest. I would also highly appreciate if you and/or someone else could help me draft an RfC outlining its full procedure and process through which we can get the consensus for establishing this user right as well. Unjust deletion of my user page

With all due respect, you just deleted my userpage against the rules of Wikipedia. - Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#List of criteria - LINE 2 - "This excludes the sandbox and pages in the user namespace." Undescribed (talk) 19:58, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

I agree that the reason I used may have been wrong, now that you point me to that, but the deletion definitely was justified, by IAR if nothing else. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:00, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
What is IAR if you don't mind me asking? I was never intentionally trying to violate rules in any way. I've been a dedicated editor for the past five years and made many very good edits. It was "gibberish" and I did not know I was wasting resources, I was merely practicing a certain typing pattern. Undescribed (talk) 20:04, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
@Undescribed: Linked. If you want to practice a typing pattern, you should use "Show preview" instead of saving. Such as high edit rate (about 10 edits per minute, for hours) is disruptive. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:08, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
My apologies, I was unaware that it affects the server. How exactly does it "Waste resources"? Undescribed (talk) 20:10, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
And are there any rules that apply specifically to deletion of talk pages? Undescribed (talk) 20:12, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
@Undescribed: Every time you hit save, it created an entirely new copy of the page that now has to be saved forever (even if it's deleted). There were hundreds of revisions when I deleted it. Talk pages generally aren't deleted if they contain legitimate messages. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:13, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Thiaoouba Prophecy

My Page Thiaoouba Prophecy was deleted. In simple words, I want to know why. I put some links to show that the book is in real, the official website, a video and an amazon link too. Then what is the problem? Tell me please. GaweSoMe (talk) 09:54, 19 January 2015 (UTC) GaweSoMe 19-1-15 3:24 PM

@GaweSoMe: It was deleted because the community held discussions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thiaoouba Prophecy and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thiaoouba Prophecy (2nd nomination), and both times decided that there should not be a Wikipedia article about it. If you want to contest this decision, you need to start a deletion review. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:44, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

I wanted to say sorry for the disruptive editing. And I was just being funny but I realized that it wasn't funny and I just wanted to say sorry — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smart cookie13 (talkcontribs) 02:08, 22 January 2015‎ (UTC)

SPI clerk

Hi Jack, I've added you to the current training round, it's already started so you've got a bit of catching up to do but that makes more sense then making you wait for a few months. Regards, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:39, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

@Callanecc: Thanks. I think I'm caught up now. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:18, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Johnsonjack50 block

Thank you for the block - what about the page version for the Laura Dern article? Right now it's parked on the blocked editor's last version which is not the consensus one. Tabercil (talk) 13:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

It looks like that's since been taken care of. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:27, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your help!

You recently blocked me and and another user on the page for Tierra de reyes. I'm not thanking you sarcastically! It wasn't my intention to start an edit war, but I was dealing with another user that would delete my edits within minutes. The issue couldn't have resolved without third party intervention and my edits were restored after a review by an administrator. But, after the block expired the other user immediately went back to deleting my information. I have no interest in having to fight over getting accurate and useful information out there, so I'm done on here. Before leaving, I just wanted to to say thanks for fighting the good fight and working to help people and help get good information on site!!MJDecker (talk) 19:14, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Cirex

Regards JackHuntster I was looking for an active administrators who can help me with this draft: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Cirex Has been several weeks backlogged, I took my chances if it get not approved. Same article is on other 5 wikipedias... Please, hope you can help! :) Thanks in advance Bnotepr (talk) 04:18, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

I see no reason that it should jump the queue. Be patient. It will get reviewed eventually. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:21, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Miss Perú 2007

Okay so a few days ago I tagged Miss Perú 2007 as a duplicate article, when as it turns out this was the one that was linked to all the articles and it looks like the guy created it twice instead of a redirect. (I think I'll just do it as a redirect now so it does not come across as odd)

I'm not sure what you're asking me. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:09, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Did you mean to apply indefinite full protection on here? --NeilN talk to me 22:23, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

@NeilN: Yes, since it was semi-protected before I did that, and I didn't want it to drop to full unprotection when it expires. After a few days (hopefully they'll have settled down by then), I'll put it back to semi (or if I forget, any other admin can). Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:35, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Okay thanks. --NeilN talk to me 04:13, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Revision Delete?

Not sure if profanity on its own qualifies or not, but if it does, this revision should be deleted. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 01:12, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

@RobinHood70: That's run-of-the-mill vandalism and does not qualify. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:15, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Okay, that wasn't entirely clear to me from the Revision Delete page. Thanks for clarifying. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:26, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Error with Nav. box

Hi Jackmcbarn, since last few days due to some problem (T88103), Navigational boxes are not visible at or.wikipedia.org. Instead of the Navbox a narrow rectangle is visible for each Navbox, please help to fix the problem.--Mrutyunjaya Kar (talk) 18:47, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

@MKar: It should be fixed now. If any pages still seem to have that problem, purge them. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:34, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response. --Mrutyunjaya Kar (talk) 05:20, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

User talk:POPULAHDAMAN

Hi, you blocked this user yesterday, but he is still spamming CSD-A7 material on User talk:POPULAHDAMAN. What gives?--Gaff (talk) 23:33, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. Taken care of. Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:46, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi!

Not nagging or anything (honest!) but I was wondering whether you'd been able to make any progress with this yet?  Roger Davies talk 12:37, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

@Roger Davies: Thanks for the reminder. I just wrote it and submitted it as gerrit:188503. It will be live here 1-2 weeks after another developer approves it. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:32, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you so much. I'll let the others know,  Roger Davies talk 05:00, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
This seems to have stalled. Is there anything I can do to help get it sorted?  Roger Davies talk 10:40, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
@Roger Davies: Indeed. I'll ask Anomie if he can review it. Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:54, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Copyrights

Most of the files I've uploaded have had valid copyrights. The only problem I have is that several files which are my own work have been used elsewhere because I have granted that permission in the descriptions. In a few cases, however, I had already used the images on the internet elsewhere, and the fact that they are "somewhere else" seems to state that I am not the owner/creator. I need help with that. Aside from that, I am familiar, generally, with WP:COPYRIGHT.Qxukhgiels (talk) 21:28, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

@Qxukhgiels: If you can demonstrate that you are the copyright owner satisfactorily enough to get the deletions overturned, I'll restore you to the reviewer group. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:29, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Okay. I'll just have to do it fast.Qxukhgiels (talk) 21:31, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
With File:Condoms 08293403.jpg, it appears someone has photoshopped the image and are selling it elsewhere as their own. However, in most places it is used (the original version) I am credited as the author see log.Qxukhgiels (talk) 21:58, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
@Qxukhgiels: I note that for that image at least, the other people's versions of it are higher resolution than yours. If they took the image from you, that would be impossible. Please explain. (If the explanation is that you do own the higher resolution version and have used it elsewhere, then please upload it.) Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:19, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
After thinking about it for a while, I've made the difficult decision to end my involvement here on Wikipedia, as it is interfering with my personal life, and it has just ended up being a waste of time. Would you please pull my rollback too? That would be of help. Also, if there's something you'd like to tell me, please ping me here.Qxukhgiels (talk) 21:08, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Done. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:10, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

I don't really see a need, but I don't have a problem with you asking at RPP for a second opinion. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:34, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

hab and collapse

Thanks for fixing that. To be honest, I just copied what I saw done in the archives because for the life of me I could not find a guide on Wikipedia on how to do that. Do you by chance know where such a guide is located? I'd like to brush up on my commands. --Tarage (talk) 02:29, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

There's not really a guide. Just look at the template's documentation. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:32, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
It would be helpful if someone would write a guide. I think a lot of editors would find it useful. Oh well. Thanks. --Tarage (talk) 04:16, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Ask for delete 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship

The article confirm only host country. No information more than it. Once, I created page and was delete because the competition would not happen in 6 months. So, is it okey for this page? Noncommittalp (talk) 01:42, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@Noncommittalp: Use WP:PROD or WP:AFD if you want it deleted. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:43, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Noncommittalp (talk) 01:50, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for doing right by User:Middle East Economic Association (for now, at least :-)). I'm not sure it'll fly, but you reminded me to AGF. All the best, Miniapolis 02:57, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
