Danielle Smith
While I wish I could prove that Danielle Smith was fired from CFIB and Calgary Board of Education....you would have to ask her, and all she will say is she "switched hats". Now I know how bad politicians get into power...when they get fired from somewhere, they don't have to say they were fired. But maybe it's time to bring the CFIB in on this. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joy E. D. Hanna (talk • contribs) 21:28, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Regardless, negative information in a BLP still needs sourced. --Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:37, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I notice you removed the prod-blp tag I added to Brenda Lenard with the comment "it has a reference". That is true, but (a) the reference is to a blog-like site that may not be a reliable source (as required for a BLP); and (b) the reference merely lists her name and has no biographical information whatsoever to confirm the content of the article. I think it would be justifiable to restore the tag unless better refs are added soon. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 22:09, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
- The rules for prod blp tags are very strict and it cannot be restored in this circumstance. However, you do have a point, and you'd be served well to send the article through WP:AFD. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:11, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
- Fair enough - I'll leave it for a day or so to see if the referencing improves and if not I'll afd it. Cheers. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 22:13, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Hey Jack, noticed you undid some vandalism on Wálter Quesada. I reverted to an edit before yours because your "undo" actually didn't catch a few other bits of vandalism on the page. Speedy deletion declined: The Badenvilles
Hello Jackmcbarn. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of The Badenvilles, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Having members who are notable indicates importance/significance. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 04:19, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Just as an FYI, User:Theopolisme was the original tagger of that. I just replaced the tag after it was removed by (apparently) the author. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:21, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Slovenia!
Hi I am from slovenia you are not and for my City I added a External link not for spam but for other users to see more about my city more pictures... and only for Slovenian users! Hm I dont know how to talk here :) Em I more spaming for Wiki not for FB I send 50 users to like Wiki my city in 10 days only 8 liked on Facebook I send 50 users in 10 days 40 likes :) I think it's a pretty big difference... any way it is official page... but on facebook. And delete this link it doesn`t work -> ^ Koper Diocese list of churches . I added link to show more about my city because on Wiki is not possible edit/deleted upload pictures. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bostyan87 (talk • contribs) 17:05, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- If the page is run by the city's government, and clearly states such, then the link can be re-added. I can't read the page or I'd tell you myself. Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:27, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
I am confused as to why my page Inky Mail was deleted. I am in no way promoting the page. Could you please tell me specifically what I need to fix to prevent its deletion?

- It looks promotional, even if you don't mean for it to be. Also, when an article is deleted, you aren't allowed to re-create the exact same article. Consider using WP:AFC to create your article. They'll help you make it sound more neutral. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:11, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't understand the WP:AFC. When I created my article I just pressed the save button--am I supposed to create it through a specific application? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtully95 (talk • contribs) 18:13, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you should use the article wizard. Make sure you choose to send it to Articles for Creation. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:15, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

It seems to me to have a promotional tone. Anything posted on wikipedia ultimately is promotion.

There are way too many steps and pages just to submit an article to wikipedia. Could you tell me specifically what in my article I need to take out so it doesn't sound promotional? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtully95 (talk • contribs) 19:30, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- It's not just one part of it. The whole article needs to be rewritten to have less of a promotional tone. If you post at AfC, other editors will be able to help you with it without the article being deleted. And it's really not that many steps to use the Article Wizard. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:32, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! What's afc? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtully95 (talk • contribs) 15:00, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

I warned the main account to try and stick to one account. I softblocked the second account, as sometimes is done when you have people making second accounts cluelessly. It's not really block evasion in that sense, I left the main account unblocked to allow for them to edit provided they didn't edit using other accounts. In fact the user claimed they were the blocked user, whereas I left the original account unblocked. That being said, it was an assumption of good faith on my part but the current remedy also is a solution. NativeForeigner Talk 16:30, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

- No, it's still promotional. I recommend you take it to AfC. They'll help you get it sorted out. If you want, I'll move it there for you. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:47, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
What is AfC? Perhaps you can tell me which part is promotional as I just wanted to make a page about a piece of software.Laoneo (talk) 19:05, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- I just moved the page to your userspace at User:Laoneo/DPCalendar, as it would have been deleted again otherwise. Right now, there's not much more than the features list, which makes it seem promotional. Also, you should find some independent sources for the article. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:07, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
I made the DPCalendar page similar to this page OwnCloud and I don't see why the owncloud should be not promotional and my is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laoneo (talk • contribs) 19:11, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- That page is also sort of promotional, so you shouldn't use it as the guideline for your page. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:13, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
I think now you are joking about me. What for a page do you suggest then to follow as good example. I'm new on wikipedia and all I wanted to do is to write a page about a software I'm using. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laoneo (talk • contribs) 19:18, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- ReactOS, Microsoft Security Essentials, or OpenBSD. They're classified as "good articles" or "featured articles", which is the standard all of our articles should aim for. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:23, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
For sure they are good but this are old articles. I mean this is an initial draft of DPCalendar and over time it will grow for sure. I mean I'm struggling over many articles which have more or less only a feature list and exactly mine should be promotional and the others not. Sounds for me not right. But anyway I think I learned a lot about Wikipedia now. Will move on. It will give an interesting blog post about my four hours as Wikipedia author.
- The others are promotional. They're just not quite as bad. You shouldn't stop editing because of one article. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:33, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Libertarianism
You said, "Your edits appear to constitute possible vandalism and have been reverted or removed." I explained that the excerpt I deleted was not supported by its corresponding references. I believe the excerpt to be making a false claim. My intention was to help ensure the integrity of the article. What part of my edit appears to constitute possible vandalism?71.137.195.66 (talk) 04:58, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- That was a boilerplate message, sorry if it was harsh. The claim looks well-sourced to me. Just because it doesn't match the Web site word for word doesn't mean it's not valid. It looks like a good paraphrase to me. Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:03, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
An online version of said source can be found on www.oapen.org, which you'll see does not corroborate the claim made by the author. Conversely, the Libertarian Party suggests a pre 1913 tax schedule which can be found here which includes tarrifs, which are not voluntary taxes. Additionally, the Libertarian Party's 2012 presidential nominee, Gary Johnson, proposed the, "Fair Tax," found, here, which is also not voluntary. Actually, much of the Libertarianism article appears to be at least biased, and possibly also fraudulently referenced, to lean toward the Anarchist perspective: for example, the use of the word, "Minarchist" is virtually exclusively used by the Anarchist political culture to describe Libertarianism.71.137.195.66 (talk) 04:57, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Reverted my edit to "Measurement uncertainty"
Hi Jack, I am an academic working in this field. The current page is highly technical and I feel will be totally baffling to most readers. I understand it is a technical subject and so I elected not to try to change the level of the existing article. Is it true that Wikipedia does not have "go here" links in article bodies? If this is the case why does it enable that function? I read the external links guideline and spam guideline before posting and felt that my post was appropriate.
I do feel it is appropriate to link to the authority text on the subject (the official BIPM version of the GUM on their website). I don't understand why this link was removed. I also feel it is appropriate to mention early on that this is a difficult document and provide some links to something more accessible to people who aren't already experts. The UKAS M3003 is an excellent document which I really feel should be linked to. I have no affiliation with either of these documents and can't understand why these links would be removed.
I also linked to the introduction to the subject that I have written on my academic website. If this was a conflict of interest I apologize. I did not believe it to be so. It is a non-commercial information site. I didn't see how I could include this type of beginners step-by-step explanation of measurement uncertainty without totally changing the flavor of the existing Wikipedia page. Therefore I included my external link. Perhaps I am biased but I think my page is the best beginners guide to uncertainty on the web and the link would serve the public interest. - You're not allowed to link to a site you own, even if it does seem useful. External links in general should only exist in the "External links" section at the bottom of pages. Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:15, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Ampney St Mary
Hi, i hope i am doing this correctly. You have asked me to stop spamming on the Wiki article for Ampney St Mary. I added an external link in good faith, there are external links on many other pages and in fact i have added and contributed to links on other pages. I was trying to help. So can you please explain to me what the issue is? There is no self promotion involved here at all, i am just trying to help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrGyro (talk • contribs) 21:51, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- YouTube links are held to a higher standard than other external links. See WP:YOUTUBE for details. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:54, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
I still do not understand the issue. I have linked external links before to youtube in order to show the reader the subject from an aerial view. This has not been a problem in the past. So how do we now proceed? Please provide a specific reason not just a generic link to an article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrGyro (talk • contribs) 22:40, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Looking more closely, I see that the videos are apparently your own, so linking to them is self-promotion, which is not allowed. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:49, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes they are my own, certain videos i created specifically for attachment to Wiki articles in order to improve the entry. Why is this an issue? You are not actually answering my question by means of a specific answer. I do not gain anything from the videos, i simply wanted to help improve the articles. On another issue, you have also removed the text that I entered, is there a reason for this?
- Linking to anything of your own is considered spam. The text was fine; it was only reverted because it was added with the video. You can put it back if you want. Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:20, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
So over the years I have added photographs that I have taken to Wiki pages, is this spam because I took the photograph? I have also had no issue with this in the past. Seems like you are jumping the gun a little to fast and are unable to interpret spam from genuine content added to benefit the article. Please explain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrGyro (talk • contribs) 08:39, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- Photos aren't spam because they're hosted on Wikipedia or Commons, rather than being external links. If your content is useful enough, someone else will add it to the article. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:01, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

The content I replaced on the Italian Libya article misrepresented the nature of the special citizenship law
The content I removed inaccurately stated and stated with a negative-sounding wording, that Mussolini and the Fascist regime "even" sought to assimilate Libya's Arab population into Italians. First of all, the issue is more complex than that, the Fascist regime offered "special citizenship" to those indigenous Libyans who were literate and that form of citizenship was only valid within Libya. In other words, indigenous Libyans could only be considered Italian citizens within Libya - they did not have the right of mobility to move to Italy. In practice it is known that citizens from Italy Proper were encouraged to move from Italy to Libya settle land, and the regime assisted them in attaining good quality land to those citizens of Italy proper while displacing indigenous Libyans. It was a compromise to attempt to gain support of indigenous Libyans while still seeking to settle it with Italians.--74.12.192.213 (talk) 02:01, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry about that. Huggle only showed me one of the 4 edits you made in a row, and it looked like unexplained removal. Right after I reverted it, I saw the rest, realized I made a mistake, and undid myself. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:03, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

The use of the word "even" in that section to describe that "even" Arabs were sought to be assimilated into Italians, appears to either imply some xenophobic aversion to the idea or imply that it was some how bizarre. Both of which are POVs and were not helpful in helping the reader understand the content.--74.12.192.213 (talk) 02:07, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
The Morning Star and the Evening Star
Hi Jackmcbarn,
Thank you for your review on my article 'The Morning Star and the Evening Star', now it is more clear to me the scope of a Wikipedia writing (I wish I had knew before started to work on it :) ).
Have a nice day, Dan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danvoiculet (talk • contribs) 08:54, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

I added from news channels with videos to cite. I have several newspaper and publications, but I have to find them all. These two describe the page as a reference though. Let me know if this works. Hello there, Jackmcbarn. I wanted to change her birth date but I do not know how to do a citation on wikipedia. I new to this editing thing on Wikipedia. - @Flyer22: Give him a chance to put it back with a citation. I don't think it's sockpuppetry; it's just a high-traffic article right now because Teen Beach Movie was just released. @Coolboy264311: If you have used more than one account to edit that article, you should admit to it now to mitigate possible consequences. Daniel Hristov Hristov - Possible Deletion
Hello Jack,
I was wondering if you can guide me in setting up this Bio. I looked through the guidelines and have pointed references. What else should I do?
Do let me know...
Thanks..

- The first thing you need to do is get it out of mainspace, or it will get deleted before you can make any other improvements. Do you want to do that, or should I do it for you? Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:24, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Gotcha, I moved it into my userspace... What would you suggest I do to improve the article? MichaelBBC (talk) 19:27, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- You need to include references to show that he satisfies the requirements at Wikipedia:Notability (people). Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:30, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Take another look
I replied on my user Talk page, but I would appreciate it if you'd have another look because I think you'll realize that no other editor made a change between my edits, so there was no edit war. I just made a change in two steps. I find your template on my Talk page misguided, and slightly inconsiderate. -- Scray (talk) 17:57, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- You're right. Sorry about that. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:00, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

- I appreciate your efforts at my talk page, Jackmcbarn (and Favonian too for that matter). I hope you haven't really inherited him but if you have I can tell you that the best thing to do is to ignore him. He really gets off on seeing reactions to him so it's best to just let him tire himself out without commenting on it. He really does have a mental handicap. His mother confirmed that he does have autism and so he's been using his mental condition as an excuse to vandalize for years. If you want more information on this guy, you should review this and this. Neither of them are up to date because what's the point, but they give you a fair idea. I recommend tagging his accounts as sockpuppets, maybe reverting him (better yet, wait till he's blocked/tired out and then revert), and otherwise ignoring him. When he realizes that nobody actually cares about his vandalism any more than they care about spelling mistakes they catch, then I assume he'll stop. If not then I have contact info for his parents and grandparents so another abuse report could be filed. His family seem like decent people, though, so I'd really only ask for them to be contacted as a last resort. Again I'm sorry this guy is bothering you. -Thibbs (talk) 22:21, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm new here but I have edited pages before. I know where I got my info from but, I don't know how to link it to this page. Marie appears on allmusic.com. She appears on these albums: Beauty's Only Skin Deep, Messin' with the Boys, and Young and Wild. Look up Cherie and Marie Currie. On You Tube there is a video of Marie in the movie The Rosebud Beach Hotel (with her sister Cherie) and, a video of Cherie and Marie Currie on The SH*-N*-N* Show. In Cherie Currie's autobiography Cherie says Marie is her identical twin. Template:Infobox Canada electoral district
Since you made this edit to the template, some at least of the articles using the template have displayed an error message in the population-density row (as here), even though nothing is entered in the "demo-pop" and "demo-area" fields. I've been just deleting those two unused fields as a stopgap measure to get rid of the error message, but that seems an unsatisfactory solution; infoboxes shouldn't throw up such messages just because some fields haven't been filled in. I have little knowledge of template syntax and can't figure out what is causing this—could you review your edit to see what may have gone wrong? Deor (talk) 21:33, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Re: Cloud Network Bank
It occur to me that people that I am highly respected for their intelligence can not defend a title. Last night I spoke to my professor of sciences (name not mentioned here) about what he think about my Title subject on Wiki, he said to me that it is only an intellectual minds that can reason the way that I see things, probably in a very different perspective. My subject 'Cloud Network Bank' simply means that people (solution providers) can do more to transform human live for easy access to virtually anything 'means' encourages self employed and prospects for good life in respective of your global destination.
my concept of cloud network bank may differ according to peoples interpretation of it, fact remains that more bank will spring up even with less physical structure than in the past.
please support the topic 'cloud network bank' a system that will change people's ways of transacting businesses in same ways anywhere in the globe even in the remotest farm zone where internet reaches... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cloudnetwork (talk • contribs) 03:31, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Minecraft feedback
I replied to you at RFPP, but I'm still a bit confused. What made you think the protection was not done when I replied to your report a few days ago? I wrote that I changed feedback protection to autoconfirmed only when you posted it, but I checked again just now and it was disabled for all users. An autoconfirmed user posted feedback yesterday, so it was apparently changed after that. Mark Arsten (talk) 04:11, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- It was disabled for all users when you checked because I added Category:Article Feedback Blacklist to the page, though anyone could undo me by removing that. The problem with feedback is that if you set it to autoconfirmed users rather than disabling it outright, any autoconfirmed user can re-enable it for all users. Revdel follow-up
Hey, Jack, I need clarification about revdel in the context of our earlier discussion. The whole business of when the material was reverted doesn't seem to be applicable when all I want to delete is an edit summary. To put it in concrete terms, I want to delete the two (obvious) edit summaries here. Just so you know, it's not the English part but the Hindi part that would arguably justify deletion. How does the "technical" stuff work in this situation? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:57, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- For edit summaries (or usernames), they just have to be deleted from the revision they appear in. They aren't kept across revisions the way the content is. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:59, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

FYI, I removed the prod tag at Dion Prewster and added a couple of refs. There is at least some minimal evidence of notability. I wouldn't be opposed to AFD, however. Zagalejo^^^ 00:07, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's fine. By the way, it was a BLP PROD, not a regular PROD, so the concern was that there were no references rather than lack of notability (which isn't a problem). Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:01, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Carl Freer 2
Hi Jack,
I have been reviewing some pages on Wikipedia along with your Page and I see that you offer help to beginners. As you know I am new to Wiki and I could certainly do with some help and therefore I am asking you for some guidance.
It has taken me almost two weeks to change just two words on the Carl Freer page. I believe the two words are accurate. Changing Bankruptcy into Liquidation should have been easy. I note that someone did it some time ago and it was changed back to Bankruptcy. It was inaccurate because the Laws in the UK are set by Parliament and therefore in the UK Companies go into Liquidation. Turning Dollars into Sterling was equally obvious from a UK point of view and I am glad that you accepted both but surely it can't be this hard to put accurate facts onto a Wiki page.
I use Wikipedia along with the rest of the World because I believe it gives an accurate flavor to the subject I am looking at and so when I see something that is wrong and attempt to change it I truly don't understand why others would edit to put back the original misinformation.
You have always been gracious enough to contact me after editing but I simply don't have the time or the experience to deal with this. There are a number of other errors on the Carl Freer page that I would have liked to have corrected but I am not sure I can invest the time to challenge each and every word. I am asking for guidance, is there a tutorial I can refer to or examples of challenging pages? Really just anything you can assist me with would be really helpful.
I have taken the view that the Carl Freer page is factually wrong. It seems to have been designed not as a living biography taking the time explain the man, his family or his businesses. It seems to be drafted to highlight legal disputes. No other page I have viewed on a living biography can be held in comparison. You and I talked about 'under Carl Freer and Stefan Eriksson', whoever drafted this originally attempted to link to a negative. There would be numerous other ways to introduce the company Gizmondo but they have not been adopted. Why not name all of the Directors of Gizmondo at the time it went in to Liquidation? Why not say 'under the direction of the Board'? The site fails to mention a number of previous and post businesses, fails to mention his five children or his marriage status, it fails to mention the two articles in Forbes Rich List, in fact it paints him negatively.
Sorry for the ramble but it just seems unjust that it should take so much time and effort to put accurate data on a living biography.
Any advice and guidance would be most welcome.
Kind regards, Onlinefactcheck (talk) 11:52, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- Your edits are getting reverted a lot because you have a conflict of interest, so everyone is looking at your edits more closely than normal. It seems you're trying to portray Freer in a positive light, which considering his multiple fraud convictions and failed corporation, can't really be done while maintaining NPOV. You're right about liquidation; I'm sorry that was reverted before. You're also right about dollars to pounds, which you should really finish changing, since right now, the article says dollars in some places and pounds in others. Regarding your point about the directors not all being named, it makes sense to mention Freer specifically, since the article is about him. The Tiger Telematics article can talk about the rest of the directors. If you think the company should be introduced in Freer's article in a different way, go ahead and make the change, and I'll give feedback and/or clean it up as necessary. You can also add his previous businesses, marriage, children, and the Forbes articles. As a final note, remember that our goal isn't to make BLPs (or any other articles) positive, but rather to make them neutral. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:57, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Astolat Dollhouse Castle – your comments could do with clarification
I think your judgements appear a little harsh here, in that you've highlighted just about everything as an issue, so it might be helpful if you were to clarify these concerns on Astolat's Talk page to assist other people in making improvements and getting the banners off. In particular, you might want to clarify your concerns about lead paragraph, copy editing and tone, which are the things that can easily be fixed. I have no connection to or interest in dollshouses (far from it), but I did help to get the article passed because there was evidence of notability and it had been sitting around for a while. Thanks.
