We can't promote lists with zero support. Only a few months ago you needed four so right now it's better than it was, you just need to "work your public" I guess. As you're a regular contributor at FLC you'll need to get used to this unless you want your lists to be archived without success. Don't forget community consensus is 100% vital here. To find the playoff records, I go to the season records for the team on Wikipedia. There, I find what the team did in the playoffs, if any. I then look at what year that playoff series was recorded. For example, let's say Mike Scioscia managed a team to the playoffs, but lost the series 1-4. His playoff record would be 1-4. Can you let me know whether you object to the running of my script through it? Here's my usual paste-in. Dear contributors MOSNUM no longer encourages date autoformatting, having evolved over the past year or so from the mandatory to the optional after much discussion there and elsewhere of the disadvantages of the system. Related to this, MOSNUM prescribes rules for the raw formatting, irrespective of whether a date is autoformatted or not). MOSLINK and CONTEXT are consistent with this. There are at least six disadvantages in using date-autoformatting, which I've capped here: Disadvantages of date-autoformatting (1) In-house only (a) It works only for the WP "elite". (b) To our readers out there, it displays all-too-common inconsistencies in raw formatting in bright-blue underlined text, yet conceals them from WPians who are logged in and have chosen preferences. (c) It causes visitors to query why dates are bright-blue and underlined. (2) Avoids what are merely trivial differences (a) It is trivial whether the order is day–month or month–day. It is more trivial than color/colour and realise/realize, yet our consistency-within-article policy on spelling (WP:ENGVAR) has worked very well. English-speakers readily recognise both date formats; all dates after our signatures are international, and no one objects. (3) Colour-clutter: the bright-blue underlining of all dates (a) It dilutes the impact of high-value links. (b) It makes the text slightly harder to read. (c) It doesn't improve the appearance of the page. (4) Typos and misunderstood coding (a) There's a disappointing error-rate in keying in the auto-function; not bracketing the year, and enclosing the whole date in one set of brackets, are examples. (b) Once autoformatting is removed, mixtures of US and international formats are revealed in display mode, where they are much easier for WPians to pick up than in edit mode; so is the use of the wrong format in country-related articles. (c) Many WPians don't understand date-autoformatting—in particular, how if differs from ordinary linking; often it's applied simply because it's part of the furniture. (5) Edit-mode clutter (a) It's more work to enter an autoformatted date, and it doesn't make the edit-mode text any easier to read for subsequent editors. (6) Limited application (a) It's incompatible with date ranges ("January 3–9, 1998", or "3–9 January 1998", and "February–April 2006") and slashed dates ("the night of May 21/22", or "... 21/22 May"). (b) By policy, we avoid date autoformatting in such places as quotations; the removal of autoformatting avoids this inconsistency. Removal has generally been met with positive responses by editors. If anyone objects to my proposal to free the dates of autoformatting in the main text in a day or two on a trial basis, please say so below. The original input formatting would be seen by all WPians, not just the huge number of visitors; it would be plain, unobtrusive text, which would give greater prominence to the high-value links. Critically, since I’m an FLC reviewer, I want to state in unequivocal terms that whether or not contributors object to this proposal will have absolutely no bearing on my review or declaration at FAC. I think, in some ways, you've been handed a raw deal, and I'm a supporter of yours. But the oppose brought up by anetode and seconded by WJBscribe are very disturbing to me, and I'm pretty easy-going. It is quite obvious that you didn't take that picture (as an admin, I can still see it). Are you going to go on the record here and continue to claim, as you did in Anetode's link from February, that you created it? If you can show me either proof that you created it (the three "images" that you said you created this image from would be proof), or you can show me where in your diffs you either apologied or atoned for your "misunderstanding" with Anetode, I will remain in support. I realize you're having a stressful week, sorry to pile on here. I still think you are a very good editor, I've always been impressed with your contribs. That link proves that that photo existed before you were even a Wikipedian. Stop lying, stop trying to rationalize and cover your tracks. Own up. I also strongly strongly strongly suggest you go back through your other image uploads, and write out a list of other images with questionable attributes. Two were found during your RfA. I'm going to be a bit mean here and surmise that there are probably more. Type one of two things here on my talk. 1) there are no other copyright problems with my uploads, or 2) here is the list of my other questionable uploads. You need to understand how serious a problem this is, so very very far beyond stupid DYK stuff. Those are copyrighted, Milk. Do you understand what that means and what can happen to Wikimedia if not curbed? If you type sentence #1, that you have no other image problems, and it is found out later that there are other egregious image problems, I will have no other recourse than to block you to prevent you from uploading what you do not understand. Maybe in another 6 months you can try again.--Bedford Pray 02:35, 24 July 2008 (UTC) Although I didn't vote or participate (I didn't have the time to review everything, and I feel that it is important to do so if you don't know the user, which is why I seldom do) I followed your RfA with interest and not a little amount of sympathy, MFC. It strikes me that you have been turned around by the expectations of reviewers; more content, to much vandalism work in earlier RfAs and then punished for following that advice this time around. I am certainly not the only editor to note that (or sentiments like it). No doubt you'll wonder where to go from there, and there will no doubt be a lot of advice thrown at you, much of which will be contradictory and confusing. As such I apologise in advance for throwing out possibly most confusing and contradictory piece of advice of them all. People are going to tell you do more of this and less of that and wait for so long and have another go. I say ignore them. I strongly suggest that you instead spend the next six months doing whatever the hell you want. You switched from doing vandal reversions to working content because of people's expectations, now you're probably going to be told to switch to something else. Because of of other people and what they expect. But you are a volunteer, you are here because you want to be, because you enjoy it and because you like the project. Let your editing reflect that. By all means try things out, see where your talents (and you do have them) are, but do what you enjoy doing. Me, I pretty much only do what I like. I like birds, and so that is what I stick too. I used to do AfD (back when it was called VfD, which is dating me) but after a while I didn't like it anymore after a while and I pretty much stopped. Sometimes I'll work lots in parrots, then I'll get bored and work on pigeons. Doing stuff I don't want to do is what I do at work, and I'm not going to give it my best when I'm doing my hobby. Some of the comments about you leaving things half finished suggest you're working in areas you don't actually care about, and that is not doing you any good. I strongly feel you would benefit from not thinking about the requirements of adminship for six months, that having no goals beyond improving Wikipedia and having fun will help you develop better than any amount of coaching. Six months of experiencing the fun of being here. When you are doing what you love, it shows. Then, if you want, have a discussion with a more experienced editor. Work out what your strengths are, and what you enjoy doing the most. From there you can evaluate whether what you enjoy doing, what you want to be doing, would be aided by the admin tools. Perhaps you will, and if you do you can then see what weakness you still have and work on addressing them then. Maybe you'll find that what you enjoy doing doesn't require the tools. What I mostly do doesn't. Even if you don't need them, perhaps you will be nominated anyway. I was, because there are plenty of editors who don't like the idea that admins have to be all things to all men. I agree with them. But again, I stress, worry about that then. Anyway, that was somewhat long-winded and possibly rubbish. I guess I'm worried seeing an editor with potential not having fun when they should be in pursuit of something that really isn't that big of a deal. Feel free to take my other advice and ignore my advice too. On a closing note, I do suggest that you follow Keeper's advice and review your image uploads, it was an unfortunate mistake made worse by not owning up. All the best for the future. Reading the threads on Keeper's talk page, it looked to me as if the RfA failed due to the DYK issue (which I'd say was fairly minor) and the imaging one (which was most definitely not minor), not the opposes too much article work (an idea which I find utterly ludicrous - I don't care if the candidate uses the tools once in a million years). I was one of those asking for more article work in the previous RfA; I supported this one in response to MFC's excellent featured list work - would people please quit bashing those people like me over false allegations that too much article work failed the RfA? Hi MFC, Here's an update of what we've been up to on the WikiProject Lists of basic topics... We've created a page for every country of the world! They're not complete, and most of them aren't even in the main namespace yet, but... A team of editors has been working on them, and the pages have come a long way. We're about to run a competition, called "Around the World", in which participants will compete in the completion of specific data items across all of these country lists. For example, one task would be adding the population figure on each page. The awards images are almost done, and the pages themselves need a couple sections completed before they can be moved to the article namespace and the competition can begin. We could sure use your help getting these pages ready... Tracking down the administrative divisions types for each country The first task is on the "Administrative divisions of" sections. In each of these sections, there's an initial hierarchical list of the division types in that country, followed by subheadings for each of the types. Unfortunately, the types listed are those from the template I used to create these pages, and they aren't accurate for many countries. The defaults that I used were: Provinces of x Districts of x Municipalities of x (Where "x" is the name of each country). For each country, change the links to the names of the administrative divisions for that country, adding more links if there are more than 3 division types. Those that are subdivisions of another type are indented under the parent type. In most cases, you would leave municipalities in place, because that's a generic name for "city". We'll blue-link those later. (Blue-linking is creating a redirect so that a link turns blue - that way, the link remains standardized on all the pages in the set). Also change the subheadings in the same section to match the initial list, including the "main article" links presented just below each subheading. To find out what the administrative divisions are for a country so you can add them, try looking on the government of x or politics of x pages for that country, and on the country's main article as well. Adding the administrative divisions to their respective subsections For each country, we need to find the list of administrative division for each type, and add them under that type's subheading. For example, copy and paste the provinces listed at Provinces of Angola under the "Provinces of Angola" subheading on that country's list page. See the countries listed at Lists of basic topics for examples of how this has been done for those. If there's a map showing the administrative divisions, grab it too. Generally do not add towns and cities to the municipalities section, as there are usually way too many of them (and will unnecessarily bloat the page). Instead, provide links to the various pages (Cities of x, [[[Towns of x]], Villages of x, etc. Completing the "Government of x" section This section also has temporary data, and needs to be corrected/completed. The titles of the head of state and head of government of each country need to be corrected, and the specific office holders added. The branches of government subheadings need to be corrected/filled in. Etc. The above tasks are fun, because it's interesting to see how other countries operate. I've completed about 25 of the country pages so far, and I've been intrigued and even amazed at some of the approaches different countries follow. The U.S. is definitely behind in many respects. Please help out as much as you can, and help us get Around the World started! That and since the general source for the list is this, I'd prefer to move it to all films with five awards or more. Given that some of us do take image copyright very seriously, can you at least admit that you stole the image, that you understand this and the resulting refusal to admit to stealing the image was very wrong and wholly incompatible with continued editing of Wikipedia. Can you also please identify any further uploads that require deletion for similar reasons or confirm that all your other uploads are wholly compliant with the relevant copyright and fair use policies (as and where appropriate). Vince Lombardi Trophy and List of Super Bowl champions are seperate. So do World Series Trophy and List of World Series, Stanley Cup and List of Stanley Cup champions. Now I understand that all other NBA awards page have the list on the award pages. But since other sports seperate the championship trophy from the list of champions, I think we should follow the same arrangement for the NBA as well. I think you misunderstood what I said. What I am trying to say is that in every other sports, major award like the championship trophy have seperate pages for the trophy and the list of winners. But minor awards tend to have the list of winners on the trophy/award page itself. So, going back to my example. Major award like Vince Lombardi Trophy separates itself from List of Super Bowl champions (in a way it is a list of winners). But minor awards like National Football League Most Valuable Player Award have the list of winners on the page itself.
