[edit]Is there a reason why it skipped two instances in 2, that could have been converted to {{by}}. In the third block of colored background text it changed:
- [[1907 in baseball|1907]]-[[1908 in baseball|08]]-[[1909 in baseball|09]]
to
- {{by|1907}}-[[1908 in baseball|08]]-[[1909 in baseball|09]] §hep • ¡Talk to me! 22:25, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Yeah - its because of the "[[1908 Detroit Tigers season|Detroit Tigers]] "Detroit Tigers" part. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 22:35, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You need to be more specific with what you actually want to do? You just seem to have general fixes turned on in AWB and are replacing links to basketball years with {{by}}. How is this useful? -- maelgwn - talk 06:29, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- See this script - gives you a better idea. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 13:23, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Considering it looks mainly to be a spell checking bot/changing redirects it will have to be manually assisted, me thinks. You have seen Wikipedia:R#NOTBROKEN? There is no problem doing this when you are already editing the page but otherwise there is no point. -- maelgwn - talk 23:53, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Again, that's not hte only thing the bot's going to do. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 20:39, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This bot's function summary seems extremely vague. Would it be possible for you to be more specific, and not use terms like "mostly" and "other things"? What "other things" do you have in mind? What other articles besides baseball articles will be edited? Kaldari (talk) 23:30, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- If you're using an AWB custom module to do the {{by}} replacement, would it be possible to see the source code (put it on a subpage of your User: page, or the bot's page, perhaps?). It would help us to see exactly what the bot will be doing. RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 15:19, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Yep - right here... « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 15:23, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks. The first thing that I notice is that all those unwieldy 'year in baseball' ArticleText.Replace statements could be replaced with one:
- Yep - right here... « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 15:23, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ArticleText = Regex.Replace(ArticleText, @"\[\[([0-9]{4}) in baseball\|([0-9]{4})\]\]", "\{\{by|$1\}\}", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase);
Just stops AWB having to process lots of statements that are essentially doing the same thing. Hope this helps! RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 15:47, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad to see this function, but I think it should remain manually assisted. Converting "Moises Alou" to "Moisés Alou", for instance, is usually correct -- but not in sentences like "Moisés Alou, sometimes written as Moises Alou", and also it shouldn't be changed in direct quotes. There are many other fixes like this that should not be done blindly. I don't think this should get a bot flag. – Quadell (talk) (random) 13:45, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- It'll actually be supervised most of the time. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 16:29, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Approved for trial (100 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. I've looked at the changes the bot makes and it should run automated. All edits must be manually confirmed. BJTalk 02:27, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Trial Done. One false positive. I removed that feature so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 15:02, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Approved. With the instruction that each edit is manually confirmed (i.e. it does not run automated). RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 19:31, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
