Question from RealMrIce (22:08, 21 May 2024)

Am I allowed to upload images of people who have there own Wikipedia article but not photo of them on the Wikipedia article --RealMrIce (talk) 22:08, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, @RealMrIce. Welcome to Wikipedia. You can upload photos that you took by yourself or photos that are not licensed. You can upload at Wikipedia Commons. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 07:05, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Radio stations in Kano indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 14:19, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Wazobia FM, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kano.

Question from Prateek Bazigar (18:12, 15 June 2024)

Hello sir , can you suggest me anything as i am new to wikipedia , just got to know i can edit articles . like how often there are errors here which we can correct ? --Prateek Bazigar (talk) 18:12, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello, @Prateek Bazigar. Thank you for reaching out and showing interest in contributing to Wikipedia. I'm glad to hear that you want to help improve articles. Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Start with the Basics: Before editing, familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. You can find some tips and links in the welcome section I dropped on your talk page.
2. Identifying Errors: Errors can vary from factual inaccuracies, grammar mistakes, citation needed tags, or formatting issues. It's important to verify information and cite reliable sources when making edits.
3. Edit Practice: You can practice editing in the sandbox to get a feel for how editing works on Wikipedia without affecting live articles, you can also create your first article too, after reading through this.
4. Collaborate: Don't hesitate to ask questions in discussion pages or reach out to other editors for help or feedback.
Remember, Wikipedia is a collaborative platform, and every edit you make contributes to the collective knowledge base. If you have any specific questions or need further guidance, feel free to ask. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 19:02, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Solangake (15:39, 21 June 2024)

editing the article https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Romance_scam in the Sextortion section, after the phrase "in addition to other efforts to educate the public on the risks of sextortion" I added a link to the article https://digitalinvestigation.com/blog/sextortion/do-sextortionists-follow-through-on-their- threats/ which is similar to the adjacent quote https://web.archive.org/web/20190109072152/http://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/crime-threats/kidnap-and-extortion/sextortion

But my quote was not accepted with the note that it was an advertisement.

Help me figure out why this is an advertisement and what should the quote be? --Solangake (talk) 15:40, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from TheGoodFairy on Caïssa (21:43, 21 June 2024)

It was indicated that a citation and more encyclopedic tone was needed in the entry regarding Victoria Winifred’s novel. I have now completed both those tasks hopefully in a satisfactory manner, and then removed the notes requesting the changes. Would you be so kind as to check to see if it is now sufficient? Thank you so much. --TheGoodFairy (talk) 21:43, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rabbitdawg (19:05, 10 July 2024)

Hello Idoghor, I'm Henry Brand ("Rabbitdawg.")

My first question would be embarassing for an experienced wikipedian, but I'm new to this, so here we go...

When I navigate to what I percieve as my sandbox, all I see is my Userpage entry text. How do I make that text go away so I can type an arrticle or correction? Or did I screw up when I thought I was creating a Userpage? --Rabbitdawg (talk) 19:05, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Long dashes

Regarting this: How can I input long dashes from the kewboard? It seems that my edits increase the workload for various wikipedians. - Altenmann >talk 21:36, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Altenmann.I couldn't find the EM dash on my PC too. However, in my mobile, it comes up when I long press the normal dash. Those edits were semi-automated edits that I confirmed. You also don't have to worry about the workload, that's why we're all here. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 21:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from 19TWELVE (14:11, 23 August 2024)

Hi Comr Melody Idoghor,

I’m currently working on a draft article about a band called "Back 2 Basics," and I’ve been informed that the topic might not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for music. Could you help me understand what additional sources or information I could include to better establish the band's notability? Also, any advice on making sure the article’s tone is neutral would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help! --19TWELVE (talk) 14:11, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi @19TWELVE, welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for reaching out! Establishing notability on Wikipedia can be tricky, especially for bands or music groups that might not be widely recognized. Here’s what you can do:
1. Reliable Sources: To meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, include multiple reliable sources that are independent of the band. Look for coverage in well-known music magazines, newspapers, or reputable online publications. Reviews, interviews, or features in these outlets are particularly valuable.
2. Awards and Recognitions: If the band has won any awards or has been nominated for notable ones, be sure to mention these. Awards from recognized industry bodies or notable music festivals can really help establish notability.
3. Chart Performance: If any of their music has appeared on recognized music charts (like Billboard or local equivalents), this is crucial information. It shows the band's impact and reach.
4. History and Influence: Include details about the band's history, major performances, collaborations with well-known artists, or any influence they’ve had in the music industry. This helps show their significance.
5. Neutral Tone: When writing the article, avoid promotional language. Stick to factual, verifiable information and cite your sources. Avoid phrases like "the best band ever" or "amazing performances" unless they are directly quoted from reliable sources. I hope this helps! Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 15:02, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Idoghor Melody, I wanted to comment the same here that {{Diff2|1241995369|new line for template}} is also a cosmetic bot. Please try to avoid those as it causes other editors to check edits that do not change anything visually for our readers. Hi! You have recently removed Category:Visually impaired sprinters. May I ask kindly the reason. He, a sprinter, competes in the T12 class, and I think the category was correct. Maybe, there is something I don't know yet. CeeGee 18:18, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Aquatark (17:56, 25 August 2024)

Hello there Idoghor Melody!

I'm looking to create an article about Japanese albatross researcher Hiroshi Hasegawa (長谷川博) in English, based off of an existing article on Japanese language Wikipedia. However, an English language page already exists using the romanization of his name, referring to a motorcycle racer. What is the best way to go about creating the article with this in mind? If the title needs to be made parenthetical, what title would you suggest?

Thank you very much for your time! Aquatark (talk) 17:56, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
