Thank you for sending me a Bac kitten! Today I have two "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, watch and listen, - I like today's especially because you see him at work, hear him talk about his work and the result of his work - rare! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:39, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
... and a third, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:26, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! Hym3242 (talk) 19:01, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. And a rainbow in my places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:03, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

Your reversion of my edit to "University of Massachusetts Amherst"
[edit]Greetings and felicitations. I noticed that you reverted my edit to "University of Massachusetts Amherst" with the comment "this conversion is meant to be imperial to metric". Hectares are a metric unit. I changed the conversion from square kilometers to hectares because hectares are the metric analog to acres, which the initial measurement is in. Given this, would you please be so kind as to undo your reversion? —DocWatson42 (talk) 14:30, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry! I really should have looked that up before reverting. But I still think that km2 is better for most countries in the world that use the metric system and probably never heard of hectares. I know this does not excuse my rudeness, but you may also want to write more descriptive edit summaries — I actually mistaken your edit for a vandal trying to sneak a bad edit with a seemingly harmless edit summary! Your edit summaries all look like they are "canned". I really do not think this is good.
- "hectares are the metric analog to acres, which the initial measurement is in" — Do you have a reference for this claim? Hym3242 (talk) 14:42, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- My edit summaries are mostly canned, though there is a significant variety to them. This encouraged by the autocomplete in my browser, and the number of edits I make. I do try to cover the major point(s) of my action(s) in my edits, though in this specific case I think "Made a minor correction." and the history of the edit covers it.
- As for hectares and acres, I think the lede of the hectare article (to which I linked above) implies it sufficiently:
The hectare is a non-SI metric unit of area [...] and is primarily used in the measurement of land.[...] An acre is about 0.405 hectares and one hectare contains about 2.47 acres.
- though I'll add from "acre":
The acre is a unit of land area used in the British imperial and the United States customary systems.[...]
Its use as a primary unit for trade in the United Kingdom ceased to be permitted from 1 October 1995, due to the 1994 amendment of the Weights and Measures Act, where it was replaced by the hectare- —DocWatson42 (talk) 15:09, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- I think there exist better ways to use canned edit summaries: you could have written "use hectares instead of km2", with a reference to an editor consensus regarding units, if this is a common kind of edit you do. You may also just note the category this edit is in, which is much better than the canned summary of this edit.
- I would still prefer an SI unit to a non-SI rarely-heard-of one. The analog to acres is not important in my opinion. I think the conversion is primarily for people not familiar with imperial units, and they are likely to be not familiar with the analogs of imperial units either. Hym3242 (talk) 15:58, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "the category this edit is in"? —DocWatson42 (talk) 16:01, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- For example, MOS problems (also grammar), template usage problems, reference format problems, clarification problems, consistency problems, external link problems, wording problems, also potentially uncategorized problems like this.
- What I mean is that a reference to a convention, consensus, or at least a brief reason feels necessary for this kind of edit. Hym3242 (talk) 17:30, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

New message to Hym3242
[edit]I really try to do well on here, and I make mistakes, but you are not entitled to impose your particular preferences as regards best reverting practice on me, or to interrogate me at length regarding my own ethos. It's not your job to know or care about my personal life, but suffice it to say I'm not doing well at the moment and it's been exhausting to also have to meet you suddenly on a campaign against me, and I'm putting my foot down so you don't drive me off entirely. (That's an actual dynamic actually experienced, not a hypothetical one I'm concocting by putting words and emotions in the mouths of other editors as a rhetorical wedge.) Leave me alone, start discussions regarding specific pages or edits, or take me to ANI if you think I'm violating site conduct policy. You've clearly been WP:POINTy on both articles and other users' talk pages.
And yes, you are specifically responsible for content you restore to articles. If you didn't know that, you shouldn't've engaged the way you did to begin with. Remsense ‥ 论 01:58, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
