Liitle Earthquakes

[edit]

Hi Holiday56, thanks for correcting the issue number of Rolling Stone - a copying error on my part.

There is an issue here, however, and it's one I have brought up before at WikiProject Albums: the rating in the print issue from 1992 and the RS online rating are not the same. This is why when you look back at previous revisions I had included both ratings in the ratings box. Would it be better to still include both, just for clarity? Because anybody going back to the April 1992 issue (as I did) will see the rating is not the same and may decide to change it. Richard3120 (talk) 17:18, 10 August 2015 (UTC) Richard3120 (talk) 17:18, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Richard3120: Thanks for this clarification; I'd assumed that the previous 3.5 score listed was a typo, but if the print issue did indeed originally list it with a 3.5-star rating then both scores would definitely be worth mentioning. Assuming this is the case, perhaps the prose could take note of RS revising the 1992 review from 3.5 to 4 stars? It seems like this'd definitely need some clarification in the body of the article, or else listing two different scores for the exact same review without explanation would look a tad confusing. Holiday56 (talk) 17:51, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, it really is 3.5 stars, as anybody with access to RS 627 will be able to confirm – when I saw the online version had four stars I checked my notes, and then went back to the British Library to re-check that issue of Rolling Stone to see if I had made a mistake... and my notes weren't wrong (shame I didn't check my error in writing down the issue number as well...). Seems a tad disingenuous of RS to use the original review from Josef Woodard but then re-rate the album with hindsight: I think I'm going to try and contact the website and see if it was an error on their part or not.
On a slightly unrelated issue, I notice you have been taking "ratings" without an actual rating out of the table, mostly from older issues of Melody Maker and NME. I was a bit miffed at first, but once my ego had died down I realised you are quite right: a rating is a rating and can be factually checked, but "favo(u)rable" or "average" is a purely subjective rating given by the particular Wikipedia editor, not by the magazine reviewer. I've always tried to be objective in my assessment, but I have definitely come across albums where "favourable" has been used for some distinctly lukewarm review text. The thing is, the album article style guide recommends using these objective ratings – do you think we should bring up the issue at WikiProject Albums recommending that reviews that do not provide a rating should not be included in the album ratings box, just including the prose in the critical reviews section? Richard3120 (talk) 21:36, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Richard3120: Sincerest apologies if those edits miffed you – but yeah, the subjectivity of such text review descriptions (how exactly one differentiates "favourable" from "very favourable", for example, I'm not quite sure), along with the fact that these don't quite belong in a table meant specifically for scores, is mainly why I've been removing them – reviews like that should be kept strictly in the prose, I'd say. Reading the guide right now I'm not quite sure where the recommendation for using these types of ratings in the table is stated but if that's the case I definitely advocate a revision to recommend not including them. Holiday56 (talk) 04:33, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, no, please don't apologise, you've done nothing wrong – it was my fault, just doing the usual Wikieditor thing of getting too precious about articles I've spent time editing... I entirely agree with what you're doing.
Actually you are right, I could have sworn that the guide had suggestions on wording to use when there is no star rating, but it doesn't – I must have mixed it up with another page. In fact it states, "The template is not to be a substitute for a section in paragraph form, since a review cannot be accurately boiled down to a simple rating out of five stars or other scoring system"... which to me sounds like it is even more likely that where no star rating is given, no attempt should be made to "create" a rating, subjective or otherwise, in the ratings box. Bruno Mars discography: WW sales

[edit]

So I have a doubt regarding the reliability and date of the websites maybe you will clarify me since you spend much time editing discographies and have extensively worked on the Mars' one.

Doo-wops & Hooligans - WW sales: 6 million. I have three sources, could you please indicate me which one is more reliable (take into consideration what is written there): http://www.webcitation.org/6bXOShaTt – Music Times, http://www.webcitation.org/6bXPrZFO7 – Roc Nation (Label) and http://www.webcitation.org/6bXOsTv8O – The Independent

Unorthodox Jukebox - WW sales: 6 milion. Once again, multiple sources (two, this time) could you please indicate me which one is more reliable (take into consideration what is written there): http://www.webcitation.org/6bXOgKJni - Inquistr and http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jan/15/mark-ronson-uptown-special-review - for this one to work you have to take into consideration that "since Doo-Wops & Hooligans has sold 6 million copies worldwide and the total of the albums is 12 million, therefore Unorthodox Jukebox sold 6 million"

Sorry about all the links. Thank You so much. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 13:55, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@MarioSoulTruthFan: I think any one of the three cited Doo-Wops sales sources would suffice as reliable (though I'd personally use The Independent owing to its greater notability).
As for Unorthodox Jukebox: don't use the Guardian source to source a 6 million copies sold claim, as the article does not explicitly state that (making that assumption based on "12 minus 6 = 6" is a violation of WP:SYNTH). To my knowledge Inquisitr isn't a reliable source so you might want to search for more reliable sources to back up the sales figures. Holiday56 (talk) 14:04, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If I can't find other source for Unorthodox Jukebox, can I leave that? Thanks in advance.MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 14:08, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I looked up again and I found this one http://www.forbes.com/sites/jesselawrence/2014/07/08/with-more-than-half-of-dates-sold-out-prices-of-bruno-mars-tickets-rise-on-secondary-market/, but the source claims 5,6 million, can I round it to 6 million? Hounds of Love and Hot Press

[edit]

Hi – I saw you added the Hot Press review to the album ratings box for Hounds of Love... you don't happen to have the subscription to their website, by any chance? I'm trying to upgrade this article with a view to getting it to GA status, and it would be useful to have some words from the review. Richard3120 (talk) 17:05, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I'm not subscribed – the rating just happens to be visible for non-subscribing visitors of their site, which is pretty much all I have access to. Well-wishes with the GA work, though. Holiday56 (talk) 02:26, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Drat, never mind... it was worth asking! I'm hoping to have it somewhere near completion by the end of the year – this is one album that really should aim to be GA status, and there is a lot of in-depth critical and academic appraisal available. Thanks anyway. Richard3120 (talk) 02:54, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Peace and Tranquility

[edit]

The article Peace and Tranquility has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references, no claim of notability, fails WP:NSONG and WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
