Good God! You're back. What a treat. Wishing all is well with you, dear friend. As always, — | Gareth Griffith-Jones |The WelshBuzzard| — 18:30, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A great personal disappointment, that. But it does indeed seem you are back! So.... xylophones at the ready, folks, by George!! Martinevans123 (talk) 18:58, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hahaha. Cheers Gareth, so great to hear from you, I do hope you're well as well. Sadly, I've been drawn in by the latest drama and thought I'd better do a spot of tidying / random editing while I was here. And heya Martin, you old plinky plonker! Join the hillifantastic choir (and praise the courageous woman who unblocked)! Had to think of my kafkaesque restrictions a lot lately and will not forget your tree of consolation. Hi Gerda, glad to see you're still here, and hard at work as ever. Yes, quite a stand Yngvadottir's taking there, and she wouldn't be the first mop-holder to take a bullet for Eric; but didn't he say he was never coming back? Anyway, doubt I'll be Bach for good, but I'll certainly be sticking around to see what happens next. Hillbillyholiday talk 20:00, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As you well know, Gareth, the keyboard on this laptop was produced at a time when Bill Gates was still in nappies, and since then has been used as a handy device for collecting toast crumbs and nail parings. I agree you on the premise but re-proding the article isn't going to go anywhere. I listed it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/South Summit (Everest). -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:31, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ricky. I was only reverting whoever that was going on a 'vandalism' spree, I didn't really have an opinion regarding the article. But yeah, I guess it probably should be debated first. Cheers. Hillbillyholiday talk 05:51, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the above article was prodded and deprodded back in August 2015 - see this diff. Prod can only be used once, so if you think it does not meet the guidelines, I think your only option is to take it to WP:AFD. Regards, AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 10:58, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

But to be serious for a moment folks, and noticing the Fuckwit Forum; a lot of the Viz articles on historically significant characters such as Cockney Wanker ("whoes faathaa was what won the war for us") & Big Ern (he only just got out, and now this shit?) are being deleted by...Americans. Will we go to war lads, will we all die together...for Terry, Wanker and Ern? Of course I'm Irish and the nuke will probably miss Cork, but give it yer best all the same. Bravo! CND isn't a phrase you hear very often these days. Did you see that study on the most new words adapted since 2000? Elizabeth Gray

[edit]

Hi HBH, I drafted a version of the fossil hunter Elizabeth Gray and I went to search for new sources this morning and found your draft. Would you like to collaborate? First bit would be to add some of the useful extra sources that you have in your draft I suggest. I would hope to nominate it for DYK in the next few days. Hope you think this interesting ... Greetings, Caranstoghe - what a delightful name, I don't think I've ever heard it before. My name's Mike and I live in the coastal town that they forgot to knock down, although it does have its own peculiar charm; the daily elephant parade a particular highlight. Unfortunately the area has a quite a drug and crime problem, which is not helped by us having the country's smallest police station.

Wuhan looks like an interesting place to live, I like that Yellow Crane Tower. What kind of music do you like? Do you go to the Vox Livehouse? The most popular local band around here is probably Pronghorn, a bunch of cowpunks that are always fun to jump around and spill some beer to. --Hillbillyholiday talk 14:38, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RAR article

[edit]

You're now tag-team edit warring (see here, here, and here). Maybe not intentionally in concert with the other editor, but that's what's now happening. Further, regarding your edit summary comment "let's err on the side of caution here", exactly what should we be cautious about? Not angering the article subject? Because I can't see anything harmful in the content in the least. It's in context, it's reference appropriately. Where's the issue? -- WV 18:04, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit summary: "..there is no consensus to remove and more than one editor thinks it should stay" was a little misleading; at that point only you and Kosh were for inclusion, while three (the subject, Francis, and I) thought it should be removed or altered. I prefer that potentially problematic material is removed first and discussed second.
As for discussing the actual quote and its context, let's keep that at the noticeboard; although, having said my piece, I'm pretty much done there. --Hillbillyholiday talk 18:29, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Hillbilly,

I just wanted to let you know that I removed the note you made on Jimmy's talk page Re:AzWiki. For the record the WMF was in close contact with the community after the email was made but unfortunately I can't say much beyond that. However for the safety of everyone involved I removed the section from the talk page where it I think it was likely to do more harm then good. If you have further questions I'm happy to talk more privately via IRC or email. Jalexander--WMF 02:19, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, James. I see the user in question was SanFranBanned as they say, but this case is very alarming, I wonder is it the first time something like this has happened? I would be interested to know what steps the WMF take to identify and prevent government infiltration of the power structures of foreign language 'pedias, particularly those without ARBCOMs and in those countries deemed 'unfree' (and I believe az.Wiki falls in to both categories). There appears to be a project currently researching ways to detect government censorship here, so can I assume that, at present, apart from waiting for an SOS, there are no systems in place for dealing with such problems? --Hillbillyholiday talk 04:21, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Last Supper article

[edit]

Here's the most recent discussion on the section: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:The_Last_Supper_%28Leonardo_da_Vinci%29#Pop_culture_section

The revisions you seem fine to me. To be honest, I'm entirely out of my subject area with modern art, so it's difficult to judge whether something is significant. In general, I'd tend to lean towards anything more recent than the past twenty years being omitted. After all, the article itself is about a painting that has been well-known for almost 500 years. But we need broader consensus to make a firm decision.

It's also worth noting the good article demotion was largely related to the "in culture" section: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:The_Last_Supper_%28Leonardo_da_Vinci%29#Good_article_review

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find an archive of the discussion. I'm hoping to help get the article back up to good article status, in which case I suspect the whole "in culture" section will need to be revised. But I currently don't know enough about the criteria for art-related articles to make a determination. Hopefully I'll get a chance to brush up on these things soon.

All the best, 8bitW (talk) 19:21, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 8bitW. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the discussion. I see it dates from 2007 which is why it escaped me. The concern appeared to be more about the overabundance of pop culture references, but I would agree that the art section needed a trim. Good luck with taking the article back to Good Article status. I'm not experienced with art-related GAs, but Modernist or Ceoil might be able to help you in that regard. Cheers. --Hillbillyholiday talk 19:53, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

changing translations -- Here there be Monsters

[edit]
  • I just saw your edit summaries; not your actual edits, but unless you have a professional-level proficiency in the language at hand, changing translations is a Bad Idea. It's also bad because we would be citing the source but altering the text, which is a Bad Idea as well. I'm not saying it's impossible; I'm saying Here there be Monsters.  Lingzhi ♦ (talk) 00:29, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lingzhi. I'm not re-translating the quotes myself (my French is pretty poor) but going by the Van Gogh Museum's website. It's a great resource, providing the original text with facsimlies of the letters, good translations, and excellent annotations. After seeing a "respected" historian like Schama twisting the facts, I revisited all the quotes from Vincent's letters. I've noticed galleries and biographers tend to be a little sloppy in their rendering of the text, for instance, see the National Gallery's quote:
..which won't surprise you when you know that what I’m at is the painting of some sunflowers.
versus the Van Gogh Museum translation:
..which won’t surprise you when it’s a question of painting large Sunflowers.
and the original text:
..ce qui ne t’étonnera pas lorsqu’il s’agit de peindre des grands Tournesols.
I've provided new citations in place of the old, of course I wouldn't want to alter the text given by the source. Cheers. --Hillbillyholiday talk 01:29, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Long time no talk, but to say kudos. I guess the page is going to morph a lot in the few weeks, but very happy that a team is forming. I don't especially like Schama; well the history of britain and embarrassment of riches books were excellent, but it's been a long road downhill from there. Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Carli Lloyd: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. - theWOLFchild 14:10, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wolfie. Yes, I am aware of our vandalism templates and I see the user in question has garnered a nice collection of them already. Frankly, I tend not to bother tagging userpages or reporting vandals; I see it as troll-feeding and, in most cases, a waste of time. (Though doubtless it has its uses.) --Hillbillyholiday talk
Thanks for the reply. I've always taken the view that if vandals are templated, they'll hopefully stop, but it's also easier to identify persistent vandals and get them blocked, as WP:AIV requires that vandals be appropriately warned. That way, their Nth incident of vandalism isn't treated as a first time offence. But to each their own. Have a nice day. - theWOLFchild 17:48, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We've often heard, how the imprison'd Wind,
When in the Bowels of the Earth Confined,
And wanting vent, whate'er resists, it tears,
And overturns, what th' Earth above it bears,
Whole Towns, and People, in the wide rupture, fall,
Tho' one small vent at first, had sav'd them all.
So, in the Microcosm of Man, we find,
The like ill fate, attends a Fart confin'd,
For Cholick, Vapours, Spleen, and Melancholly,
Do wreck those, who suppress it, for their folly.

But then I saw (here on this talk) that he/she is somehow mixed up with those depraved friends of mine, Gerda Arendt and Martinevans123, so I figured it was some joke. Now I don't know what to think. The Darling Buds of May

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you remove or blank page contents or templates from Wikipedia again, as you did at Catherine Zeta-Jones, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Ridiculous! Krimuk|90 (talk) 07:42, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why the snide edit summaries at that article, User:Krimuk90? You will have noticed that the source you insisit on using, this one from the Evening Standard, written in January 2002, was a predictive one, reporting a contract for nine films over a three year period. It doesn't confirm that Jones was paid this full amount. It also says this: "... if she falls pregnant in the next three years, she risks jeopardising the contracts.." And as we know, her first child Dylan Michael was born in August 2000 and her second Carys Zeta was born in April 2003. Did she reveal that she was already pregnant when she signed that deal? And what happened when she got pregnant the second time? How many of those nine films were made? Perhaps you could clarify for us? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:17, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That source is also attached to the statement earlier in the sentence that "In the early 2000s Zeta-Jones was among the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood", yet I can't find anything mentioning that in the source. And considering this is a content dispute, interactions should take place on the article talk page, not via threatening and patronising posts on a user talk page. Hi HbH, Thanks for your edits to the article on Tracey Curtis-Taylor. Unfortunately the article is a battleground for some aviation buffs keen to assert their view that the subject is an imposter. Whatever the truth may be, hard documentary evidence for the assertions is lacking and the detractors should show restraint until they can prove their claims to WP standards. It's somewhat suspicious that some contributors have contributed to no other articles, but let's hope reason prevails. Best wishes Guffydrawers (talk) 16:56, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers, Guffydrawers. Yes, you're quite right. I thought I'd join that particular forum to see what was what and explain myself...the strength of feeling is a little disconcerting - they're so frightfully keen - and many seem to have a raging "hate-boner" for Tracey. It's an interesting situation where the normally reliable publications somehow got the wrong-end-of-the-stick, and despite their reputation, the Mail appear to be correct here (though I doubt they needed much persuading to run such an attack piece). Some people at the forum have suggested that I'm part of her PR team. Well if I was, I'd be recommending she push hard for deletion - she's not particularly notable and they *will* eventually get a reliable source to cover the "controversy", leaving her bio as little more than a character assassination. An AfD would be tricky with all those (erroneous) sources, but I share your hope that reason will prevail! --Hillbillyholiday talk

But of course, I just like the pretty pictures. A wonderfully free and energetic example from the ninth century here. --Hillbillyholiday talk 01:22, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Douai Psalter, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Yarmouth. Ha! Don't pay any heed to Mr. E. Vanitas above -- he's just an alternative account I use from time to time, or rather, I'm his alternative account, it gets somewhat confusing at times... Remind me again, Martin, who's playing the "good hand" this week? --Hillbillyholiday talk
Billy, I just wanted to say you're totally magic. This reminds me of a really grotty charity shop in my locale, run by an ill-tempered one-legged chainsmoking fellow of the travelling persuasion, called FLOGIT & LEGGIT. (chap visible bottom right) Sadly both the shop and its owner have now departed. It turns out that all the money raised was used - not for disabled workshops as promised - but to fund the proprietor's fetish for being widdled upon by crackwhores. --Hillbillyholiday talk

Guess the classic British Comedy film: "A brief narration outlines woman's first attempts to fly since the Stone Age inspired by a bird's flight, seen with footage from the Silent Film Era, and woman being represented by a "test pilot" (Red Handed Skelton) encountering periodic misfortune in her attempts." hint Martinevans123 (talk) 13:24, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jason Biggs

[edit]

The comments made by Jason Biggs about Pope Francis were extremely insulting.[1][2] Why shouldn't they be included? Irishlady85 (talk) 23:38, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Irishlady85. Besides the information being rather undue, Fox News and Breitbart are unreliable, highly-partisan sources that shouldn't be used to add contentious information anywhere -- especially not on BLPs. The links you gave are simply attack pieces: "Jason thinks it’s cool to hit the pope but lacks the beans to do the same to Muhammad. It’s why Jimmy attacks gun owners but not gangbangers." (Youch, what was that sound?) --Hillbillyholiday talk 00:25, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HBH. Thanks for the compliment/support here. I was thinking how to respond to your ping in a way that would be productive, but thought that whatever I wrote might be counter to that, hence my silence. Fred West

[edit]

Have you read any of the books? Her name chronologically is Anna Marie West. She only changed her name to Anne Marie in the 1990s. I'll add MORE references if you like. Regards.--Kieronoldham (talk) 01:53, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kieronoldham, I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe jumping watchlist or maybe cat-on-keyboard, either way totally unintentional, sorry. --Hillbillyholiday talk 02:00, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, pal. I understand why user MilfordBoy1991 may have believed I made an error in her name (he has fixed a few typos I made), but even though she refers to herself as Anne now, she was named Anna Marie. Regards and sorry if I sounded blunt. Kez.--Kieronoldham (talk) 02:04, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
