Interwiki links
[edit]Hello Hegvald and thanks for your contributions. When you add new articles that already exists in other language versions, such as Axel Kock, it would be useful if you also added interwiki links, see Help:Interwiki linking. Or at least in those cases when you know about the other articles. :-) Greetings, Tomas e (talk) 11:51, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
No humor, please!
[edit]Dear Hegvald: Your edits, as in this diff, have shown traces of a sense of humor, which is disruptive of the serious, somber, and relentlessly grim mood that so many other good people in all walks of life have exhibited just before burning out entirely. Be advised that if you continue on this present course, you run the risk of enjoying yourself while at work on this project, and you may even have a similar effect on other editors. Please consider very carefully whether you want to be responsible for such consequences. Thank you. -- — Sebastian 20:00, 11 March 2013 (UTC) |
DYK for Wilhelmina von Hallwyl
[edit]On 30 March 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl acquired such a large art collection, including European paintings and Asian porcelain, that its catalogue contained 50,000 entries spanning 79 printed volumes? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Wilhelmina von Hallwyl. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Your revert of my move
[edit]I see you reverted my move of Swedish emigration to the United States to Swedish immigration to the United States. Sorry if I come off sounding like your high–school English teacher, but it is indeed a question of grammar and you have moved it back to an incorrect state. The two words are not synonymous – in fact, they are antonyms. See wikt:emigrate. Both "emigrate to" and "immigrate from" are incorrect constructs in the English language and the use of the term "Swedish emigration to the United States" creates ambiguity – did the author really mean "Swedish emigration from the United States" or "Swedish immigration to the United States"? It is clearly grammatically incorrect, but which one of those two grammatical errors has the author made? The way you have restored it is like saying "Swedish people leaving to the United States" – you can tell it sounds wrong, and you can most likely divine the author's intent, but there's clearly an error in there and that creates the ambiguity. For reference please see [1], [2], and [3], or just Google it enough to confirm it to your own satisfaction and then move it back. If you have additional concerns, I am happy to discuss them with you here or on the article talk page. Sorry if I'm ranting, but the decline of the English language is one of my pet peeves and we shouldn't be contributing to it – especially not in the voice of Wikipedia. Thanks, Mojoworker (talk) 22:02, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- That these are different words with different meanings was exactly my point, but that is not a grammatical distinction. The article is about emigration from Sweden, which went mostly to the US. But the focus of the article is on the emigration and its social and political circumstances within Sweden, not on the immigration to and settlement in the US, even though it is obviously impossible to completely separate these aspects of the same process. I think you are approaching this from a US-centric perspective, rather than seeing that there are two sides of the coin.
- (There were other targets of Swedish long-distance emigration of the same period, such as Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, but the circumstances in each case are so specific that I can understand why the author chose to limit this article on the emigration directed towards the US.)
- My suggestion would be for you to discuss this with User:Bishonen, who is the main author of the article. Part of my reason for reverting your move was a point Bishonen made in a recent edit comment, when reverting a change similar to yours. --Hegvald (talk) 11:59, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I see your point about focusing on emigration, but my contention is still that one cannot emigrate to anywhere – it is a grammatical impossibility. I will take it up with Bishonen, but if I'm understanding you correctly, then moving the article to something like Emigration from Sweden to the United States would handle both of our concerns. Please correct me if I've misinterpreted you. Thanks, Mojoworker (talk) 16:42, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- As far as I am concerned, Emigration from Sweden to the United States looks fine, but go through WP:RM in any case. In the case of a featured article, there is the likelihood of old discussions and decisions about scope and title that you should take into account and address. --Hegvald (talk) 12:10, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

University art museums and galleries
[edit]Hi Hegvald, I can see why you were tempted to move the University art museums and galleries to University art museums and galleries in the United States, but would it be better to leave the title as it is and add a {{Globalize}} clean up template? From what I understand of the conversation of other editors at AfC, they thought an article on University art museums was a valid split from the Art museum article. Unless there are some specific issues unique to the USA, it seems worthy of a general title. Sionk (talk) 12:06, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. House of names
[edit]Hi User:Hegvald, just to say if you look at houseofnames.com they have a page about "Roosevelt" name (here [4]). This says it is variant of "Roose" just like how "Maiorana" is variant of "Maior", I imagine the endings like "velt" and "ana" came about in medieval times. The site doesn't have specific page about "Maiorana", but this is probably because there were no Presidents called Maiorana. Also see "Brodkin" (here [5]), variant of "Brod". Instead of removing info, I'd like if you helped re-phrase some of what's written so it suits Wiki better, model it on Grant (name) or McQueen (surname) articles. Thanks and happy editing. --Emperorofthedaleks (talk) 16:45, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
- Houseofnames.com is a scam intended to flatter visitors with impressive-looking but completely unreliable claims about surnames in order to get them to buy merchandise, such as framed "surname histories" with fake coats of arms. In this case, this low-quality scam website does not even support the claim you are trying to make. --Hegvald (talk) 20:14, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit]I am honestly not sure at all why you remove it since it certainly applies, this would also alleviate the workload at AfD; as it is, not only is it an obvious fabrication, there's enough consensus, thus a speedy should not be removed if it applies. New Page Review needs your help
[edit]Hi Hegvald,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Your comment on my draft article Juan Montoya
[edit]Thabks kindly for your support and advice. You are right. The article requires and deserves expansion due to the availability of easily accessible sources to warrant its inclusion in an encyclopedia. The issue is laziness on my part (wanting to start a tiny article meeting minimal requirements for inclusion, and gradually add to it) and I will make an effort to rectify it. The process of having it approved has been a learning experience and I am glad that I have found out about these hurdles and have some idea about how to negotiate them in the future. Juan Montoya (Interior Designer)
[edit]@SwisterTwister: @Hegvald: Hello Hegvald, I am resubmitting my article on Juan Montoya. I still expect myself, and hopefully others also, will update the article, but for the moment I have expanded it as well as added sufficient links to verify notability and also to allow others to add material from the cited sources. I'd like you to take into account when reviewing the article, that quite a few notable interior designers are missing from Wikipedia and that through my efforts I hope to generate interest among editors in this field. You'll note that the articles on Interior Architecture and Interior Design are both in need of assistance from experienced editors who understand the need for RS and verifiability. I hope to be able to contribute more in these areas in the future. I have copied David (user:SwisterTwister) who also assisted in the review of this article. Thank you both for your time and I look forward to your comments and to improving the article to Wikipedia' standards if further editing is required for its verification. Swish
[edit][The common by Nyttend below was in response to something I wrote on their page, copied-and-pasted here for context:] I'll dispute your speedy deletion of Swish (payment). Swish is widely used here in Sweden and there are plenty of potential sources.[7] From what I remember and what I can see in the Google-cached version, it does not look particularly promotional. The article should at least have been given a chance at AFD. --Hegvald (talk) 05:43, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- Here are the references in the article:
- They were used rather promotionally, essentially "here are all the great features!" The first is just the program's website, three of the others appear to be dead or Facebook, and only one might be useful. You're free to recreate it, but if I undeleted the one, you'd have to do a 100% rewrite. Nyttend (talk) 05:48, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- ^ https://www.getswish.se/
- ^ Grattis Swish! Nu är vi fem miljoner svenskar som swishar. (Swedbank Sverige on Facebook)
- ^ Swish för handel i full drift 30 januari
- ^ Nya sättet att betala i kollektivtrafiken (Expressen 15 Nov 2017)
- ^ Digital and telephone services
- I can see the text in Google's cache. It does not literally say "here are all the great features!" or anything similar. It is dry, descriptive and factual. It just describes how Swish is used and as much about the backend and its corporate backing as is needed at this length. The article could use better sourcing to support what it says, but I see no need to rewrite the text as a whole. My suggestion would be to move it to draft space. --Hegvald (talk) 06:12, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!
