Predatory source?

Hi Headbomb,

I noticed on the article for Urfa that you have removed some citations to an article published in the (Turkish) Journal of Multidisciplinary Academic Tourism, saying it was a predatory journal. What is this based on? Not to butt heads or doubt your judgement or anything, I just wanted to double-check and see if maybe it's a false positive because I don't neccessarily want the information to be sitting around there unsourced. I looked it up and couldn't find this journal or its publisher mentioned in any lists of predatory journals, but you're probably more knowledgeable about this topic than me. Do you have access to Cuellar's (?) blacklist, the one with the paywall, and that's where they say to avoid this journal? (or some other watchdog list I didn't see)

Thanks,

3 kids in a trenchcoat (talk) 00:56, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

See https://beallslist.net/standalone-journals/, search for either Journal of Multidisciplinary Academic Tourism or Disiplinlerarası Akademik Turizm Dergisi or JOMAT. They are also lying about being included in the DOAJ. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 02:27, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
Ahh yeah they don't seem to be in the second list, but they are definitely in the first. Welp, that sucks, but thanks for catching it and also for sharing. Cheers, 3 kids in a trenchcoat (talk) 04:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Edits reverted on page Elsevier Weekblad

Hello,

One of my edits to Elsevier Weekblad has been reverted, specifically edit number 1143366833, which removed a source from 2014 which somehow said that there were 68 thousand copies in circulation in 2018. I also clearly stated that the image which presumably showed the amount of copies was dead. The source also linked to an archive from 2014, so I do not understand why the edit was reverted. 145.140.0.196 (talk) 10:44, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

My bad, I didn't see your explanation for the first edit and assumed this was random vandalism. I've undone my revert. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 11:33, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Meaning of the word bibliography

N.B. The meaning of the word "wikt:bibliography" can either refer to a list of sources consulted or a list of useful books to consult. For scholarly work, in the absence of a separate "works cited" section or direct inline citation, the list of sources consulted is the much more common use case. - car chasm (talk) 02:28, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

From context it's clear they mean the other meaning. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 02:40, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

AAlertBot: Updating article alerts failure

AAlertBot's task "Updating article alerts" failed to run per the configuration specified at Wikipedia:Bot activity monitor/Configurations. Detected only 0 edits in the last 1 day, whereas at least 10 were expected. If/when the issue is fixed, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely. When that is done, this notice will be reposted if the bot task is still broken or is re-broken. If your bot is behaving as expected, then you may want to modify the task configuration instead. Or to unsubscribe from bot failure notifications, remove the |notify= parameter from the {{/task}} template. Thanks! – SDZeroBot (talk) 08:20, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

You've returned

One minute after my edit and not a minute later.[1][2] What could it be this time?[3] My usual edits and a few that are not so. I wonder what the displeasure might be. Invasive Spices (talk) 15 January 2023 (UTC)

If you have nothing productive to say, go away. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 00:08, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
In addition to continuing you've expanded and expanded. Clearly your aquaintances object increasingly to something I'm doing. Certainly I have no idea.
Well…between Randykitty and Yamla pretending not to see edit warring and edit warring by making arbitrary edits with a bot contrary to BOTPOL, and this nonsense, certainly I prefer something over something else.
By the by, Randykitty has fullprotected one page without notifying me. I don't think that will work to sidestep discussing the entire situation. On the other hand the admin logrolling on WP is astounding so perhaps it will? Invasive Spices (talk) 23:25, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
It's funny how when you keep doing the same garbage nonsense that gets put in maintenance reports on different articles, these different articles all get the same treatment and cleanup. Stop putting garbage in citations and violating WP:CITEVAR. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 00:02, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
There are 10,000s of "maintenance reports" none of which justify Special:History/Agriculture in California long term WP:CITEVAR violation specifically targeting text added by a particular editor. Your mention of CITEVAR is laughable.
This and these are obviously not the kind of personal revenge taking that RfD is meant for. Unfortunately Randykitty doesn't appear to believe in deescalation or WP:INVOLVED. Invasive Spices (talk) 23:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
"Revenge"? If you think I spend any of my time thinking about you, you're grossly deluded. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 23:47, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
Or perhaps I am able to read Special:History/Agriculture in California. It could be either. Invasive Spices (talk) 21:44, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
As was explained to you, multiple times, by multiple people, in citations we either use the full name or the abbreviation, not both. If you insist on making the same mistakes, the same fixes will occur. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:15, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Casting aspersions

Hey, I notice you pointed me to WP:ASPERSIONS because of comments I made at Talk:Science § Neutral origins in lead. That page describes objectively unsupported or exaggerated claims of misconduct, but I was trying to summarize the original research in the thread immediately above my comment. Could you explain what you think was inappropriate here?      — Freoh 14:22, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

You point blank accused me of espousing white supremacist views, and of Anchesta Wis to peddle racist stereotypes. That this is inflammatory should be obvious. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 14:56, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
You said that yes, the ancient Greeks are that important to the history of science. Were you not arguing for the superior importance of the Greeks?      — Freoh 01:54, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
And we're done here. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 03:10, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
  • At first I thought this was WP:PUSH (or possibly some kind of trolling), but it may actually be getting into CIR territory. This individual doesn't seem to be using reason or even trying to further their own goals. I offered several compromises and even partially agreed in another article, and they kept pushing ahead against all consensus not even willing to seize on some middle ground when offered. They appear to be unwilling or unable to collaborate (competency in which is required I think). —DIYeditor (talk) 04:33, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
Came here for a different reason, but there's clearly a problem - on my watchlist for some time. Doug Weller talk 09:35, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Your rs script

At User:Doug Weller/Archaeology and racism it shows this journal [4] with a stop sign. I'm confused. I see I can still use, but of course the stop sign is a bit unfortunate. I don't mind it for YouTube which I'm also using as a source but where I know there's no problem with the particular videos. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 09:41, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by stop sign. For Historical Archaeology, my script highlights ResearchGate in yellow for general repository (WP:UPSD#General repositories), but it adds no stop sign or anything of the sort. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:39, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
The likely culprit is User:SuperHamster/CiteUnseen.js I think. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:40, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I wondered as it was new. Doug Weller talk 14:56, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Citing sources

I have previously explained to you that Wikipedia's verifiability policy applies to categories as well, but you are continuing to add an uncited category to Rayleigh–Jeans law even after Dllahr has challenged it. Please stop this disruptive behavior.      — Freoh 03:03, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Rayleigh Jeans has been obsolete since 1900 or so. This, again, like on the other article, should be patently obvious to everyone. And, again, because you try to pull a technicality "but it must be sourced1!1!1", this is cited. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 03:04, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with this topic area but a quick perusal of the article and what it links to indicate that it is "clearly obsolete". Freoh I think it is your behavior, rather than Headbomb's, here and elsewhere, that may be the real question. You seem very confrontational and to stubbornly plow ahead with your own angle on things without much regard to anyone or anything else. —DIYeditor (talk) 03:12, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia's verifiability policy is not my own angle on things. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with Headbomb.      — Freoh 13:47, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
Fair enough I'll leave you guys to sort it out. —DIYeditor (talk) 14:23, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

I am disappointed to see that you are continuing to add uncited material. Please stop this disruption and ensure that your categories are verified, especially ones that have been previously challenged by other editors. It becomes difficult for me to assume good faith when you are continuing to edit war after I have asked you to stop.      — Freoh 00:56, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

@Freoh: Go away and stay away. The material is cited, that you refuse to read the damned citation (including the additional ones by XOR'easter) is not my problem. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 01:01, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Legend of the White Dragon moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Legend of the White Dragon. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability and it does not meet WP:GNG.. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:22, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

@Alexandermcnabb: really not sure why I'm being notified here, this isn't my article, and I haven't moved it to mainspace... Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:03, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
Sorry - a touch of finger trouble!!! Should just have informed creator... Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 10:36, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

Source code of AAlertBot?

Hey Headbomb, small question. I'm finding myself wanting to do something similar to what AAlertBot does for AFD report pages (i.e. getting number of participants and relist status). Before I implement something, I wanted to check if there's already usable code to do this. Is the AAlertBot code public somewhere? Thanks, and apologies if I missed it! Suriname0 (talk) 13:41, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

AAlertBot is closed source sadly, because the code was never designed to be shared. Maybe @Hellknowz: has more advice for you there. You might be better off making a feature request at WP:AALERTS/FR than coding a different bot. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 19:41, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the info! It's for a Toolforge tool anyway (and I haven't used C# in years), so I'll just plan to implement my own heuristic if I ever get around to it. Suriname0 (talk) 21:11, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, the code isn't really shareable at this point. I mean, I can sort of paste you the C# code [5], but it's not like exactly a single method. I'm not just reading the page, but getting the revision history. And all of it is via custom code wrapper for Wikimedia API. And inside there's classes for everything and I can't really select and paste dozens of files. And of course C# is kind of useless for Toolforge anyway. —  HELLKNOWZ  TALK 21:34, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks anyway, HK! Those regexes could still be useful! Suriname0 (talk) 00:35, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

FYI

I am now having my students install your unreliable script as part of their Wikipedia activities :) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:32, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Glad to know! Hopefully you review the caveats with them. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:04, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
