Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Missvain (talk) 23:16, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have created MULTIPLE wikipedia pages that have been accepted. This feels incredibly arbitrary and as a maritime journalist and author, I have highly detailed knowledge on a variety of historic maritime subjects. This arbitrary block by User:Missvain without any explanation is enough for me to wash my hands of contributing to Wikipedia. I was about to correct this absolutely wrong bit of history on wikipedia that states that USS PC-565 sunk the lone Nazi submarine in the Gulf of Mexico during World War II as it is listed in SS Robert E. Lee (1924) when in fact it was USS PC-566 but I suppose that is irrelevant to whoever User:Missvain is. Ridiculous. If however, this reasoning has something to do with my username: GulfSails, let it be known that GulfSails is my username on twitter and was the name of my Hurricane Katrina blog which has been DEFUNCT for over a decade. This is not a BRAND, it is simply my username across multiple platforms. If this is the case, wikipedia is managed by some incredible nit-pickers who obviously do not value my contributions.

Accept reason:

I am going to remove the block because the username policy states "While plain domain names (without .com, .co.kr, etc.) are sometimes acceptable, such as when the purpose is simply to identify the user as a person"- which seems to be the case here. I also don't think that anyone will confuse this username with an old blog. 331dot (talk) 19:30, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GulfSails, please don't be too hard on Missvain; I understand why they imposed the block, as in general website names are not permitted as usernames; what I note above is a permitted exception. 331dot (talk) 19:32, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have at times found contributing to wikipedia to be very tedious, especially when creating a new page. This block made me upset when I feel like I am and have been making some reasonably valuable contributions.

Hey GulfSails,

Not sure how to communicate effectively, but if you can read this I’d love to know more about the yacht clubs on the coast and any background on the DeBuys family.

I am also a journalist and history enthusiast living on the gulf coast closer to Gulfport MS.
