ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Copyright problem: Lá na mBan
[edit] Hello Gillaween! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Lá na mBan, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted material from other websites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from https://www.rte.ie/centuryireland/index.php/articles/analysis-la-na-mban-9-june-1918 and https://www.decadeofcentenaries.com/9-june-2018-la-na-mban-commemoration-mansion-house-dublin-1/, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate your contributions, copying content from other websites is unlawful and against Wikipedia's copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are likely to lose their editing privileges.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
- Have the author release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License (CC BY-SA 3.0) by leaving a message explaining the details at Talk:Lá na mBan and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en
wikimedia.org". Make sure they quote the exact page name, Lá na mBan, in their email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If you hold the copyright to the work: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en
wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:Lá na mBan. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC BY-SA), version 3.0", or that the work is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Talk:Lá na mBan with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
It may also be necessary for the text to be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for a template of the permissions letter the copyright holder is expected to send.
Otherwise, you may rewrite this article from scratch. If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Lá na mBan saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! — Diannaa (talk) 16:11, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Diana, I didn’t intend to violate copyright. I usually copy and paste sources then rewrite around them and delete. Can you give me a chance to review it and make sure I've done this sufficiently? 82.15.208.160 (talk) 16:15, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- There's time to do a rewrite. You have a minimum of one week to do so. Please do the rewrite by creating a temporary page as described above. — Diannaa (talk) 16:37, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- The idea of the temp page is to prepare the content for publication, and the result will be pasted into in mainspace, so please add your citations and any images. You can check the prose using Earwig's tool to make sure that all prose that needs amending has been dealt with. Please let me know when you think it's ready for publication and I will have a look. — Diannaa (talk) 17:36, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, I have done this now and I hope it is acceptable. I'm really sorry and very embarrassed about this. I would not have intentionally violated Mary's copyright. Gillaween (talk) 17:52, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

Women in Red 8th Anniversary |
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |

- In September, I'll be leading an in-person course in Perth, Scotland called Perth Women on Wikipedia, in partnership with Perth and Kinross libraries and Wikimedia UK. Over six Saturday mornings, you can learn about some amazing Perth Women, how to research them using the library's archives, collections and e-resources, and how to edit Wikipedia to improve and create articles for some Wiki Women in Red. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/perth-women-on-wikipedia-tickets-669207286007

Event coordinator granted
[edit]
After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have temporarily enabled the flag on your account until 2023-10-09. Keep in mind these things:
- The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
- The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
- The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
- Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.
If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! stwalkerster (talk) 19:11, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

- Hi there, this is the first day of the event and we have had our IP blocked for vandalism by Materialscientist. Is there a way this can be unblocked please?

Unblock request for an IP address

Unblock request for an IP address
[edit]
Gillaween (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Your reason here I was running a Wikipedia editing event with new users at a public library when we received an IP block for vandalisms. Some eager newbies created accounts during a break rather than wait for me to do it through the event dashboard. This is an urgent request as it is a weekly course and I will need to be able to create users and edit every Saturday for the next six weeks. The address is IP: 10.21.24.148 Gillaween (talk) 13:56, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Decline reason:
That's a reserved IP address used for local communications within a private network, not an IP address that can be reached over the internet. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 15:04, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
I don't see a block on the IP you mention. What message appears when you attempt to edit? 331dot (talk) 14:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC) Thanks NinjaRobotPirate and 331dot I returned to the library today to get a screenshot of the block and ensure I had the right IP address.
The IP block is still in place but I had provided an incorrect address. It's 193.63.61.100. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help in resolving this NinjaRobotPirate Gillaween (talk) 12:24, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Gillaween, I unblocked the IP address in response to UTRS appeal #78825, but then I noticed that it was an anon-only block, so it should not have prevented edits from the accounts you created. Did you perhaps get an autoblock? JBW (talk) 10:01, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks @JBW I'm pretty sure I was signed in as I went through the event dashboard. I'll go to the library tomorrow and see if everything is working smoothly with the IP block removed. Fingers crossed! Gillaween (talk) 16:19, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- I have no experience of using the events dashboard, so I don't know how, if at all, using it relates to logging into your account. If you find tomorrow that all is well, then obviously that will be fine, but if not then feel welcome to contact me again to see if I can help. As I told you by email, at present there's nothing more that I can think of to do which might help you, but I'm willing to search around and look for answers if necessary. JBW (talk) 19:02, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Just to let you know that I am in the library, logged in to the guest wifi, and I am able to edit with no issues, both using the event dashboard and not. I'm hopeful that a bunch of new editors on Saturday won't trigger anything and may be in contact with you then if it does! - Hello again, Gillaween. The IP address you gave last time (193.63.61.100) is not blocked, and hasn't been since I unblocked it in September 2023. Do you actually know that there's a problem again, or did you just assume there would be because there was last time? If there really is a problem, have you checked whether it's still the same IP address as before? If you still can't edit, let me know, providing as much information as you can, including the exact message you get telling you that you can't edit, and I'll try to see whether I can work anything out. If there's any information you don't want to make public you can send it by email (though I can't think of any likely reason why that would apply).

- Thanks @JBW I'm pretty sure I was signed in as I went through the event dashboard. I'll go to the library tomorrow and see if everything is working smoothly with the IP block removed. Fingers crossed! Gillaween (talk) 16:19, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Incidentally, I have total sympathy with anyone prevented from editing by an IP block in a local library, because a very long time ago it happened to me. 😟 JBW (talk) 19:53, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me @JBW. You're right, I was anticipating that there might be a problem and hadn't actually checked. I'll be in the library tomorrow and I'll check if it's still happening and if it's still the same IP. Gillaween (talk) 14:47, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @JBW I'm in the library now and I just created a new account with no issues. I should have checked that before reaching out to you! There is still the possibility that creating a few accounts at the same time might trigger the block so I will do this through the event dashboard and hope for the best.
- Just for interest, this message popped up when I started creating the account:
Wikipedia welcome message - Thanks for your help
- Gillaween (talk) 13:51, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- Actually yes, I had forgotten,

but creating a lot of accounts from the same IP address in a short time can lead to problems, so it's worth taking care. JBW (talk) 18:55, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for your talk at the Wikimedia UK event. I'm also interested in Scottish topics and have worked on many at the regular Edinburgh events, which I recommend. I'm also an event coordinator too and so it would be good to compare notes on how that works. So, please feel free to keep in touch or ask for help. Andrew🐉(talk) 12:53, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
