Happy New Year!
Dear Giggy,
Wishing you a happy new year, and very best wishes for 2009. Whether we were friends or not in the past year, I hope 2009 will be better for us both.
Kind regards,

Radiohead FAR
I have nominated Radiohead for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. 70.21.58.96 (talk) 03:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron GA Review
Hey, noticed your name on the list of GA mentors and saw you mentioned you did GA's related to video games. This is my first ever GA review and I was wondering if you could give it a look over and give me some critique and make sure I've not done anything stupendiously wrong.

WP:AUS and the Australian cricket team
- I see a correlation between the Australian cricket team and the slowing up of WP:AUS
- McGrath <-> Casliber (bird lovers)
- Adam Gilchrist <-> Giggy (dashers with the same initials AG)
- Shane Warne <-> Mattinbgn (Victorian and cricket)
- I see a correlation between the Australian cricket team and the slowing up of WP:AUS
- All have slowed down on the FAs dramatically in recent times and they stopped writing FAs in the same chronological order as the cricketers have retired. Warne-McGrath-Gilchrist and Mattinbgn-Casliber-Giggy as far as Aussie FAs. And, we've started struggling without them. Giggy also has a habit of walking from the crease as well. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 04:33, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Had to add the last part. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 04:33, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- I would make something to do with you were I a cricket fanboy, but for now all I can offer is the occasional flurry of edits. Besides, Gilchrist doesn't walk away from the crease often, does he? Giggy (talk) 04:34, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

4chan
Hey, Giggy. I'm sure you know 4chan is scheduled to be January 14's TFA, and evidence of the inevitable vandalism is starting to surface at various talk pages (User talk:SandyGeorgia for example). If the vandalism starts to show up on your talk page, let me know and I'll semi-protect it. Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 18:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is going surprisingly well actually. I suspect it will end up protected again by the time it hits TFA, so I wouldn't worry too much. It is being watched, so if anything bad happens it should get protected right away. Prodego talk 01:52, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Danke
Hey there, friend. Thanks. Yeah, I'm back to my... let's say semi-full-time editing. As much drama as goes on on WP, not just have I managed to avoid it pretty much completely, but I'm still happy to contribute- the goal of this place is spreading all knowledge to all people, and I'm still 100% behind that. As far as the job... eh. I wasn't upset about getting fired- watching sports was fun, but everything else about the gig rated somewhere between "subpar" and "quite bad". The worse part is that I'm still unemployed, but my parents and pets are very happy to have me living at home for a while, and considering that I refuse to even apply for pretty much every job out there (since I refuse to do anything I won't enjoy, and there are few things I'll really enjoy), I'm not surprised I'm still without work. Things will turn around soon, I'm sure, and all will be well.
Catch me up, AG! How are things going? I hope life is treating you splendidly- you certainly deserve some splendid...ness. And you know, when I posted my comment on PeterSymonds's RfA about editors being jerks to oppose !voters, it didn't even occur to me that you were one of the people I was defending. Now I'm doubly glad I said what I said (even though I don't think anyone read it). -- Mike (Kicking222) 05:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- That is awesome. Much as I love sports, women, video games, and animals, music is probably my #1 passion in life. I've always wanted to be in music somehow, except I have no musical talent and haven't taken a journalism class since tenth grade. Still, I go to concerts as often as humanly possible (most recently, her and them (twice) and them and them for the fourth time) and read Idolator, Stereogum, etc. constantly... I'll have to add halo-17 to the list! Anyway, that's great- I'm wicked proud of you, and I'll be sure to read all of your work.
- I've had a bit of a cold all day, so I need to go to sleep. Have a delightful evening. -- Mike (Kicking222) 05:28, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Haha, well I never wrote anything that had a byline, anyway. I mean, you could've followed along with the play-by-plays that I did, but that's about it. Regardless, I'm not broken up about it... did I love getting paid to watch sports? Of course. But while the job may have theoretically been the right job, it wasn't the right time or the right place or the right conditions. I hope your writing gig is all-around right (I mean, I'm sure the pay isn't great, but it's doing something you love to do, and that's what matters). -- Mike (Kicking222) 15:27, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
RFA
I noticed your recent comments to R'n'b's RFA asking people to give reasons for supporting. I don't see why you need a reason to support; it should be defeault position. IMO if you don't see any reason to oppose you support, not the other way around. We need more admins badly, seeing as how we have over 8 million users but only 950 or so active admins. Why do you think people need to give a reason to support?--Pattont/c 16:52, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- We don't have 8 million users and I wish the devs would disable the {{NUMBEROFUSERS}} button so people would stop saying we do. We have 8 million registered accounts but most of those have never edited or have made one or two edits many years ago and nothing since; going by the criteria of "active editors" used for elections (at least 600 edits, with at least 50 in the last 5 months) we have a little under 10,000 active editors, making an admin:editor ratio of around 1:9. For what it's worth, I entirely agree with Giggy; if anything we currently have too many admins (if they were actually busy, they wouldn't waste so much time in petty drama) and given the current setup in which it's almost impossible to desysop a bad admin, we should only be promoting those who actually demonstrate a need and demonstrate their trustworthiness. Kurt may have been a PITA, but his point was valid; he just had a uniquely annoying way of saying it. – iridescent 18:33, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Agree with Patton - supporting is merely agreeing with the nom, and going with the flow. If you want to be against the flow, it makes sense to give a reason. We should not have to argue for someone to be promoted if the nom already has done so, or we just think it's a good idea. Questioning every single supporter like that helps nothing. Majorly talk 19:16, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I agree with you on that – I always read "Support~~~~" as "I have nothing more to add to what the nominator has said". Where I disagree is that the default position should be support; IMO the default in virtually every discussion should be "support the status quo" (so "oppose" at RFA, "keep" at AFD and "no change" at policy discussions, with the burden on the nominator in all three cases to make a case as to why the change in question would be an improvement. – iridescent 19:26, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- "Supporting is going with the flow". Eh? Who establishes this mythical flow, how, and why? No more reason why support should be the default rather than oppose. In fact, as there are already too many administrators, it makes slightly more sense to oppose by default. --Malleus Fatuorum 19:27, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- One of WP's core principles is "Assume Good Faith." To that end, I agree with Majorly, the default position should be support, not oppose. This is particularly true when dealing with people and their emotions. If I said, User:X I support you. That is generally enough for anybody, they might ask for more, but if more isn't forthcoming, nobody really cares. Now if I said, User:X you are an ass. That offends people and can hurt their feelings---which in turn means people are going to want to know why the other party thinks that way.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 19:34, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

- I can't believe you just said that Balloonman. ;-)[1] --Malleus Fatuorum 19:44, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- "there are already too many administrators" - citation needed :) The flow is established by the suggestion of nomination. In an ideal world, we would promote every active editor who hasn't vandalised or whatever. I like to think of that ideal world when voting, so of course I look to support, and believe that supporting should be the default, because I assume good faith - unless shown otherwise, then of course I will oppose. I kind of agree with Iridescent about it being the status quo, but considering it's a person we're talking about, I think differently with regards to RFAs. A proposed policy won't get upset if they fail to get implemented. An article on a band that released one album that gets deleted won't get upset (obviously, with BLP articles, we treat them differently). However, there is a person behind the screen name, and I like to think we are all nice people behind them. It should be no big deal (whether or not it is is another question), so I tend to have that view. Julian Colton wrote it best earlier - an oppose in a sea of supports will often dent the candidate's confidence needlessly, and will have a huge discussion underneath it. I don't disagree with opposing - I opposed someone just today - I just disagree with opposing so easily. Majorly talk 19:37, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- You opposed somebody, I better pay attention to whom... you don't oppose often ;-) {And what I've said to others holds true for you as well... am not holding any ill will towards anybody who opposes me.}---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 19:41, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Giggy, aren't you glad this is on your talkpage?
To Balloonman: That's misreading what I'm saying. "Oppose" isn't "I think you're an ass", it's "I don't think you're suitable for this particular task". It's no more insulting than being turned down at a job interview, unless specific opposers choose to personalise it.
Majorly: with Kurt gone, there aren't really any serial opposers (unless you count RyanGerbil's apparent bid to be the new Kurt). People like me, Malleus and Friday might oppose a lot (although as I've said to you before, really not all that often – you have 59 opposes in your history; I have 78; Malleus has 15) but I'll always give a – usually very lengthy – explanation as to why. – iridescent 19:45, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Patton, you should read Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship#"Badgering". I found MBisanz' comment there, and his subsequent support of Russ' RfA, amusing, and decided to test the waters (see my edit summary).
As to Patton's original statement, I'll simply say that I'm a status quo supporting sock puppet of Iridescent and I think Malleus is a donkey. Giggy (talk) 00:30, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- You see the difference there Patton between a seasoned wikiwarrior like Giggy and your average newbie? He said "I think Malleus is a donkey", not that "Malleus is a donkey". It's the sort of fine distinction that keeps wikilawyers in business. --Malleus Fatuorum 00:58, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Just in case you didn't know, Augie March is going through GA. RfA thankspam
Thank you for your participation in my recent RfA, which failed with 90/38/3; whether you supported, opposed or remained neutral.
Special thanks go out to Moreschi, Dougweller and Frank for nominating me, and I will try to take everyone's comments on board. Thanks again for your participation. I am currently concentrating my efforts on the Wikification WikiProject. It's fun! Please visit the project and wikify a few articles to help clear the backlog. If you can recruit some more participants, then even better. Apologies if you don't like RfA thankspam, this message was delivered by a bot which can't tell whether you want it or not. Consensus
Hi Giggy. Just wanted to say this comment echoes my thoughts exactly, only much more eloquently that I ever could have put it. I don't actually support flagged revisions, but in the end the responsibility for the decision rests with the owners of the site. Any consultation done with the volunteers is a courtesy. As volunteer editors we are guests in someone else's playground. Thanks for reading my mind and expressing my thought much more clearly that I ever could. :-) Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 04:35, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

WSOP Logo
Hey Giggy, On one of the FLC requests, I got push back on using File:World Series of Poker logo.png.
