Pre-arranged transfers

Hi GS, Just a quick one regarding your reverting of my edit on Isaac Olaofe. The transfer was agreed on 30 December 2022,[1] with his contract at Stockport County beginning on 1 January. For any pre-arranged transfer, surely the player stops being a player at their former club on 31 December 2022 at 23:59:59, and becomes a player for their new club on 1 January at 00:00:00? Just makes more sense in my opinion. Any deals finalised on 1 January, sure, put the date to 2023, but this one appears to have been pre-arranged, meaning Olaofe was not a Millwall player for any time during 2023. We have always treated situations like this as the old contract ending and the new contract starting on 1 January, so the end and start date are the same year. The only situation where it is not done like that is where the player departs a league with a calendar year season. GiantSnowman 22:19, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I wanted to clarify my previous edits on the article, as well as say sorry for not asking for your opinion before. I genuinely wanted to help, not to start an "edit war", I promise...

I did avoid editing the "Youth career" section this time, because the articles mentioned aren't so clear about the exact periods of time spent at each club, admittedly. I thought the information I added about Emakhu's debuts was fine, though: I really just wanted to give some more details about those two matches.

Also, I think the statistics I added in the "International career" box were actually reliable: since I couldn't find any sort of database on the FAI website, I used Worldfootball.net as a reference.

I hope my intentions look clearer now. I'll make sure I let you know before I re-visit the page in the future, though, so that I can avoid making a mess like last time.

Can I ask your opinion on a footballer draft?

GiantSnowman, I know you're active in the WikiProject and I've seen you posting at AfD's that a player's not notable and to please contact you if sources are found; for example here, where I believed she was notable. I'm kind of bewildered by the change in notability requirements for sportspeople, but I'm a big softie anyway ... and I was puzzled when I tried to improve Draft:Truls Klausen (creation by a now indeffed editor who did a poor job of creating drafts based on foreign-language Wikipedias, including Norwegian, which I can read) and it was rejected anyway. Someone had noted at an AfD that there's a Norwegian media archive search, so post-rejection I looked there for coverage during his playing and coaching career (this is the resulting edit since the rejection). Can I ask you to check it and see whether he just doesn't meet the new standards? He never played internationally, and I may be barking up the wrong tree because of my inclusionist tendencies. The article looks good, but I'm struggling to assess sources, partly because of language, and partly because some oft them are paywalled. But, in short, does Mr Klausen have significant coverage in reliable sources? If so, he is notable. GiantSnowman 15:55, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for looking, both! That and the other directory site are being used for his full name and date of birth; I didn't realise there was a better alternative, worldfootball.net, here it is. I've gone through the sources and will be adding a rundown of them to the article talk page rather than here. Two are indeed paywalled and Wayback has captured only the blanked-out version in both cases. I can sometimes see these things using Firefox's print view option or whatever it's officially called, but I can now only see the first paragraph of one and the first line of another. Pity. The source for the year of his marriage and the children is a weak one, a blog interview with his wife; I haven't been able to find a better one at the news archive, so some of that (year, full number of children) may need to be omitted. But that was intended to fill out his bio, rather than as an indicator of notability. (In the archive search, he is mentioned/pictured a couple of times in local news articles about her dance school; I couldn't find wedding coverage.) I was unable to document the 2 Oslo teams he played for, though I suspect a more expert search of the news archive wopuld shake those loose. Initially, I was concerned that he might be a BLP1E because of the May 1995 event; there is indeed a lot of press coverage of that, I intend to add an additional article from a couple of days later, but I avoided having too much about that. But I found multiple articles all about Klausen himself. So I'll also add links to the newspapers I'm citing, and as I say, I'll discuss the refs on talk. (The Norwegian article is under-referenced.) Done. Yes, that was why I was confused; the version that was most recently rejected already had two long articles all about him, plus several articles about the collision on the sidelines, and I'd tried to make it acceptable as a biography. Anyway, maybe this will help to either determine that notability is demonstrated or explain how he fails to meet the new standard. Thanks again, and for your edits to the draft. I wonder whether he's missing at nifs.no because he was never on the national team? I suppose he's also unusual in that some of the coverage is for his post-play years. Anyway, I'd be very grateful for an opinion on whether the draft now demonstrates notability under current standards (and remember, I've listed and characterised the sources on the talk page). Personally I'd say it's not the number of caps, it's the years that matter. Having a stats table saying '1935 1 cap' is pointless when the infobox says 1 cap in 1935. Readers will want to know when somebody with an infobox that says '1935-1936' earned their 3 caps, for example. GiantSnowman 16:25, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Why have you written sigh - I take great exception to sarcasm and rudeness and you have fallen incredibly short of the basic standards of polite discourse. It is incredibly confusing being told of different rules all the time and varying subjective measures. Yesterday I was told and I quote “ independent, reliable, secondary sources to pass WP:GNG. It should have at least 3 of those” - For Mellon we have bbc sport, Lancs live, and Lancaster guardian. I may be many things but I can count to three. I do not care if the page for Mr Mellon is on the main space or the draft pages until you deem it acceptable, but I will expect an apology for your rude tone and attitude or else i will take my complaint over your interactions with good faith users further. Does this discussion reach a consensus? or still under discussion?

In my opinion, this issue is very important and I hope that we will reach a reasonable agreement.

  • European Professional football League season system: 2022-23 season, 2023-24 season
  • Some professional football League season system including MLS, South Korean K League, Japanese J.League, Chinese Super League: 2023 season, 2024 season

I think it is important to draw a clear line between two season system and one season system.

Current football player infobox in Gareth Bale cause misunderstanding to readers.

Gareth Bale played for LA FC both in 2022 season and 2023 season for 2 years and MLS season is ongoing in January 2023 like European Football League.

If we fill out the infobox like Gareth Bale infobox, many transfers or retirements of MLS players, K League players, J.League players, Chinese Super League players in January and February cause same misunderstanding.

You may remember on Talk:Tom Holland (English footballer) that you supported my nomination to move from YOB to nationality disambiguation because there is also a Tom Holland (Australian footballer). I have however noticed a Tom Holland (footballer, born 1997) from the Tom Holland (disambiguation) page so what I think should happen is to return the English footballer one back to Tom Holland (footballer, born 1902) to solve the naming consistency problem in line with your suggestion on Talk:George Hall (footballer, born 2004). Can't move it by myself, probably needs an administrator to do it so I have done so on the technical requests page by following the instructions properly. I seems to recall once that another "normal" Wikipedia editor was unable to move a page back to it's normal title probably because of the same reason I was reading about a page name already existing. It might also have happened when the same editor was trying to move Jota (footballer, born 1996) back to Diogo Jota as seen on Talk:Jota (Spanish footballer) but only that person knows, not us.

Hi @GiantSnowman:, I've just seen your comment on the revert regarding John McInally (footballer, born 1915). "are you joking?!" – no, I'm really not, and I think your tone could be better. In fact, I carefully studied the source before placing it on the page. The Celtic Wiki is not a Wiki "as we know it", i.e. it is not open ended and its editors are instead restricted to a select number of people who are approved to contribute via the admins, which means it's not much different from a standard football stats website. However, as you're unhappy with the source I'll compromise with simply marking the subject as deceased. Hugh Doherty (1921–2014) and Peter Goldie (b. 1934) have both been identified within the last decade as Celtic's oldest living players, and as such the subject is deceased as he was born in May 1915. I will instead state this in the article, and hope you're happy with it. Sadly, the Scottish birth and death records aren't much good in this instance as there are multiple people of the same name, thus it cannot be determined with absolute certainty which one is him. Curious why you think that sentence is UNDUE--it seems to be a fair summation of the sources, which are numerous enough to justify inclusion in the lead. Hi GiantSnowman, Re your message to me, equally respectfully, you have not explained why you have reinstated information about his age that is not supported by the sources.

I didn't intentionally add any of those erroneous links directly (I accept they happened due to my reversion of your changes but they were already there before my initials edits). I feel the changes I made yesterday were good and justified and provided a better article than what was there before and what you have reverted it to. The article had a better logical structure, the 2006 vote had its own section which, given its importance in his career, was justified, and I removed confusion about this age - stated as 86 or 87, when the info box gave his precise dates of birth and death and both sources clearly said was 86, so there was no need for the confusion or for it to be replaced. Also, the reference to him being a 'flying Scotsman' added nothing to the article and was out of place/irrelevant to the section it was in. A HELPFUL person would have said something like "You clearly want to improve this article, thank you - however, some of these changes could be done differently" or "have you considered doing it this way?" or "here's another/better way to do it". Instead, you chose a negative, unconstructive approach of simple reversion guaranteed to get people's backs up and then just undid every positive change. Before 'helping' someone again, I suggest you het some help in how to do it, because your arrogant approach and attitude is having the completely opposite effect. I wanted to discuss your recent revert of my edit of Billy Forbes. Is your stance that we should not include "non-FIFA" caps and appearances? I (although I love NFT) think that NFT's arbitrary use of "FIFA" and "Non-FIFA" designations is often flawed, but even more so in the case of this player. Forbes has a WCQ goal and nine CNL goals and yet his "official" goal count is four? The England stats were a mistake, which I corrected immediately after. If you compare your last version to my last version there are only a few additions to what I missed as I have not done that type of edit before.
You would do better to provide constructive criticism and encouragement when someone tries to update the page rather than calling it 'nonsense' and accusing them of vandalism, when this is clearly not the case.

The first time I missed the last update, which I did not miss this time. I missed a few other things as it was only the second time. Wikipedia is supposed to be collaborative. All you had to do was add the missing bits and then I could see. There was no need to revert or make accusations.

It was deleted at AFD and then re-created as a redirect to the Sportivo Ameliano, the club he played for. That was not the AFD consensus, and is not a standard ATD outcome, so I deleted it. Based on the discussion that I have read just now which obviously has agreement from you and Ampimd should, by theory, be the initial creator of the article, I'd say it shouldn't be too long to merge both page histories and some of the content together.

I was actually expecting the page move from draft to mainspace at various points last year instead of what actually happen. I'm definitely aware you have many potential articles currently in your user space and other people probably aren't aware of that. I believe this is a good-faith attempt to create an article by a new user, but it's completely unsourced (at least at the moment) and doesn't look at if it would meet WP:GNG. The parent club appears to be Luton Town F.C.; so, maybe at information about its U18 team could or should be added there. Creation of Arat Hosseini

Hey GS, hope you're enjoying your holiday. Just a quick one that I was looking for your opinion on. Arat Hosseini is only nine, but (in my opinion) has garnered significant coverage throughout his career so far. I note that the page was deleted in June 2020, and set so that only administrators can create it, but I see similarities between Hosseini and Sonny Pike, in that they are both footballers whose youth careers have been heavily profiled. If Hosseini goes on to have an actual career in football, then he'll most likely garner standard coverage, but if he does drop out of football, then it'll be another case like Pike, where more articles will surface about "wasted potential", etc.

Hi @GiantSnowman, Since Tom Williams made his last (competitive) appearance for Hashtag United in February 2020, yet he stayed on as a coach through at least the pre-season of the 2021/22 season, and he hasn't played for any other team since then, and at the grand age of 42, I had presumed that he had retired, even though I don't believe that he had announced anywhere that he retired. I also can't find any source that announced his retirement. I am sure that he is not a coach at Hashtag United now, as I can't find any mention of him from after 2021, and he does not feature on the staff page of their website. In May 2022 Williams tweeted a shrugging emoji in response to someone saying that 'he may have retired', so he might not have done, but I believe that that might have been in jest. I am not sure why you have removed Williams' league statistics from his infobox, as there is quite a fair amount of coverage of each Hashtag United game and therefore his 25 appearances and 3 goals are easily verifiable. I also apologise for writing that he is English in his introduction, that was an obvious mistake on my behalf. As it says on my user page, 'feel free to call me out on anything I have done/got wrong', I thank you for reverting my edit, as I made mistakes that I should not have made, you make Wikipedia a better place! Professionalism in association football

Either the list is outdated for omitting women's professionalization, or it shouldn't list women's association football for only Denmark. What's the goal? This doesn't seem to happen at other levels or types of similar content, from the high levels of association football and women's association football having separate articles and separate high-level navigation in {{Association football}} and {{Women's association football}}, to more granularly separate articles for men's and women's sides of the same clubs, to explicitly separated list articles on men's and women's clubs, men's and women's national teams, and men's and women's players, etc. -Socccc (talk) 20:21, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Mariam-uz-Zamani name

Hi there, I see you have removed Wali Nimat from the name text on the Mariam-uz-Zamani page. Mariam Zamani wasn't her name, it was her imperial title, her name was Wali Nimat Begum given to her by her husband post-marriage. Her husband, Akbar too held the title of Khadija-ul-Zaman but that didn't become his name. Women of his seraglio were always referred to by some epithet or place of their birth and highest ranking women, like Akbar's mother and his chief consort were referred to by their titles like Mariam Makani and Mariam Zamani. In case the namespace is meant to write just the short name, it seems more sound to mention Wali Nimat Begum than Mariam Zamani. Her name can be confirmed from her edict which you can find in the Tirmizi book or Khulasat-ut-Tawarikh.

Dani Ceballos controversy section removed by random ip

Hello GS. I noticed that an IP removed the controversy section from the Dani Ceballos article sometime in March, even though the incidents are properly sourced. Many athletes have controversy sections, and I don't understand why Dani's should suddenly be removed. Hi AL. I'm not GS but I have time to comment. This looks like a good-faith disagreement. Can the discrepancy in the numbers be explained by counting league only versus counting other competitions as well? Perhaps that can be talked through? Do sources disagree over the player's height? Can that be discussed?

The height can be a topic for discussion as it differs from link to link (but the one in box gives him 1.89), but the stats are definitely being vandalised, per this simple math exercise: do you know how many cup goals Mr. Carter scored ALL countries accounted for? THREE, one in Portugal, one in Thailand and another in Australia (and goals for Viseu are being "corrected" from 14 to 20!)! What am i to make of this (and because the IP says "Check offical page of his club 192 stats are incorrect in Portoguse websites" it has to be true? Thank you GS. Well i was ok until about 10 minutes ago! Someone called Paul Vaurie has decided to revert the squad back to 15 March on the basis that players contracts don't officially end until 30 June!!! So all of the previous "out on loans" are back on the page!! Even though they have long since returned!! Also Lokonga has appeared back in our squad!!! I think it is a bit petty when it is only 3 weeks away from those official loans ending ( plus Luka and Jimmy Mac have said their goodbyes). Also find it strange that Nascimento and Wells-Morrison are listed in the squad ( I don't think Nascimento has ever played a first team game??). I thought the squad reverts back to the definite first team players (0ver 21) who are still at the club until the new squad is announced in August. I thought that was what we had always done? Hi GS, yes I agree regards loan players out, it is ridiculous to see 10 loan players listed again. Ok yes Jimmy Mac and Luka can stay there until 1st July, likewise Jefferson Lerma does not appear for us until the same date. But it has been raised by others on the Palace talk page regarding how accurate ( inaccurate the main Palace website is ). Nascimento has never played for the first team, only a friendly in December. Rodney and Wells-Morrison were on the bench for a league cup tie last October. The website I agree with the others is wrong. We should look at accuracy rather than website says no ( or yes!)- a bit like computer says no!!!!! I do think that in the past once we reach the 1st July the squad reverts back to what I showed the other day ( first team players that qualify for the 25 man squad) the ones that are left, and then we add new signings and the under 21s are filtered in as the season progresses ( but the website needs to reflect actual first team appearances, not warming benches for league Cup games or even worse with Nascimento not even warming a bench). Urgent - sockpuppetry regarding Crystal Palace squad debate

Hello GiantSnowman. It has come to light to me recently that Don Eadier, Catford Massive, and Kenneth Wyatt are all abusive sockpuppets of each other, at least from what I can tell. I need help opening an investigation, which I do not know how to do. All three accounts have been focused on the same specific subject of the Crystal Palace F.C. squad across their entire editing careers. Don Eadier was the first account to open a debate on the talk page of Crystal Palace F.C., calling the official website of CPFC a "disgrace". The user's writing style is also extremely similar to the ones of Kenneth Wyatt and Catford Massive, using excessive exclamation marks everywhere. In this discussion that Don Eadier started, Catford Massive then responded in complete agreement with Don Eadier in a way of writing that was almost identical, with a lack of commas and excessive exclamation marks after every sentence. Although it was Kenneth Wyatt that complained to you (above) that I changed the Crystal Palace squad per the website, it was then Catford Massive that reverted my aforementioned edit, and who came to explicity complain on my talk page. I honestly think it's clear as day that Don Eadier and Catford Massive are just sockpuppets of Kenneth Wyatt, and the extremely similar editing patterns suggest it. I think you know that I am a reliable editor, and I reveal all this in good faith. I trust you to take appropriate steps in this matter. Thank you GS and happy editing! Thoughts on where to move Alex Pearce?

Hi Mr Snowman, Pageviews indicate that there isn't really a primary topic anymore for Alex Pearce, especially this year when the Aussie has become the captain of his club. But where should the "born in England, played all his club football in England, but has represented Scotland and Ireland internationally" player be moved to? Alex Pearce (English footballer), Alex Pearce (Irish footballer) and Alex Pearce (Scottish footballer) all seem wrong. A quick search seems to indicate that Alex Pearce (British footballer) would be unusual, but to me is the most accurate, concise and unambiguous. We could of course go to Alex Pearce (footballer, born 1988), but I really don't like doing that as no one really ever knows birth years so it's not as natural a disambiguator as nationality. Kapital Bank Arena/Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium

Hello!

I recently noticed that the search term "Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium" redirects to Kapital Bank Arena. It's clear from Google Maps that these are two separate stadiums and it's unclear to me why the redirect is there, as Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium is the much larger of the two.

As far as I can tell, it's a bit like City of Manchester Stadium redirecting to Manchester Regional Arena.

But I'm unsure of the protocol around previously moved pages and I'm also struggling to find Azerbaijani sources on the matter.

Can you advise on how best to resolve the issue? Should I take it to redirects for discussion, perhaps? Or do I need to find some proper sources before taking things further?

User language competence

Hi - hoping this finds you well. I'm concerned about the English language competence of an editor. I reverted a bunch of edits on 15 June to Championnat National which purported to concern the history of the competition, but actually covered details of future plans [17]

Since then I've noticed a lot more edits from this user on my watchlist. Whilst they do a lot of table/infobox edits, anything with prose needs attention, the following being examples from the first page of their contributions [18][19][20].

IP adding youth honors

Hello GS! Sorry for disturbing. Multiple times we reached an agreement on not adding any post 1992 olympic honors to the senior squad first teams, as it's now a youth tournament. It was brought up twice recently on footballproject, with every single regular agreeing to remove them. An IP on the Spain national football team keeps adding post 1992 medals without explanation. I left a message on their talkpage, but the IP seems unwilling to communicate. I don't want to participate in edit warring, so I don't think I should revert it again. I have a question regarding adding images to pages.

The user is very problematic, constantly adding unsourced materials in different football related articles. Updating stats, players based on rumours and jouno's or fan group twitter handle, many of which are changed frequently. Have very low understanding of RS and when to use twitter as source, aslo totally unexplained edits..zero edit summary, all of these making lot of confusions in many article. I am adding few differences here but most of the edits are problematic.
India national under-23 football team..below are repeated addition of unannounced squads of the NT team added by the user, even after addressed twice that once the federation announce any squad it can be uploaded but ignored.
Other articles where edits done with same unexplained and unsourced, based of twitters (most of which were not announced by clubs, league or federation at that moment neither reported in RS)
Only time the user used edit summary is to give false warning.
If you go through [wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Contributions/Dollarsign14 User contributions for Dollarsign14], you will only find unsourced and unexplained edits. The user has been warned and blocked multiple times but still seems don't even care to read guidelines or willing to have discussion. Article 1 : This article basically covers his performances in the recently concluded domestic football season with Rahmatganj MFS and the reason why he was selected in the tem for the Asian Games in China. It gives information about his family members (specially his father) and his home home district. Acccording to the article he failed BKSP the enterance exams twice before eventually getting in. It also has info about his expirence playing for the Bangladesh U20 team in tournaments such as - 2019 SAFF U-18 Championship, 2020 AFC U-19 Championship qualification, 2022 SAFF U-20 Championship & 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualification.
Article 2: This one starts off with Tanvir giving his thoughts on being picked for the Asian Games sqaud. Like the previous article it has info about his time playing for the Bangladesh U20 and captaining them in different tournaments. His club career with both Saif SC and Rahmatganj MFS was also discussed, he even states that he wants to join a "bigger club" in the future.
Article 3: It has details about his family and his home district like the first article. Info bout how he joined BKSP and then how he got scouted by Saif SC. His expirence of playing (youth) international football his also mentioned like both previous articles. His performances for Rahmatganj last season was highlighted and he states his desire to play for the national team after the Asian Games.

As expected the user did it again. Editing and adding an unannounced and unofficial squad in the article India national under-23 football team adding a source which itself saying probable. It seems to me a case of WP:IDHT and his persistent unexplained edit, zero edit summary is just unbearable. And no response from the user makes it more difficult now. For your clarification there will be two squad to be added in the article, one for Asian Games, which was announced yesterday and added, and another for U23 AFC Asian Cup Qualification. AIFF, the federation of football in India did not announce any official squad for AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification. Secondly, the source that is addded recently (removed now,my last edit in the article) is discussing who can be in the team for Asian Games as well as AFC U23, it is not a source of official or announced squad. The user has been made aware that a squad will only be added if such is announced by AIFF, otherwise various journalist will predict their own squad. And the edit that you mentioned above have a source which is also not a official announcement, the source itself revolves around a tweet by tweeter fan page IFTFWC. There is no official announcement of u23 team and most probably it will not be announced till mid August, since AIFF are yet to select a coach for the U23 AFC Qual team. Advice needed

Hi, GiantSnowman. I wonder if you can point me in the right direction? I am a new member, although I have made occasional edits prior to joining. I am trying to find my way by following advice kindly provided by others and so I have completed many edits today when time has allowed. Unfortunately, I seem to have upset the editor using the IP address 2A02:908:4E3:9520:658F:3E79:11A4:C394. I saw in the news this morning that Xabi Alonso has extended his contract at Leverkusen. I thought that would be a useful piece to add to his article here. As it happened, someone else had already made the edit but had not provided a source, so I gave The Daily Star (Bangladesh) where I found it.

Later, the IP editor overwrote my citation with the Leverkusen club site which I thought is not independent, and so does not comply with site verification policy that I had been reading only an hour or so earlier. Having been advised to be bold and to act in defence of site policy, I undid that edit and explained why in the edit summary. The IP editor did not like that and I tried to compromise by having both sources. He doesn't like that either and insists that his citation is the only acceptable one and I must learn this and must not dare to do that!

This IP editor is without doubt the same one that you had to warn earlier in User talk:2A02:908:4E3:9520:2C6E:E875:F14F:6E70, which is why I am writing to you for advice. If he is right that only the club source should be used, I will accept that and use similar sources in future. If he is not right, then should I continue to be involved as I would risk being drawn into what you call an edit war? All I want to do is learn how to edit the site properly. I accept, of course, that there will be contention at times but I think issues should be handled individually and I would be pleased to have advice on how to handle this one. Why not include both sources? Where possible, I tend to include an 'official' source (such as club or league) and an 'unofficial' source (such as reliable media - for me it's usually BBC). GiantSnowman 09:24, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Frenchl (again)

Having some problems with Frenchl again. User has been making half-disruptive half-constructive edits en masse for the past three days, especially today. I have gone back and fixed virtually every single disruptive thing they did in the past two days.
I don't know what needs to be done to somehow get them to stop making disruptive edits at this point. Recently, another disruptive addition of double nationality here, another here, another here, and unexplained removal of valid categories. Their recent disruptive trend has been to do this, which is changing "represented" to "played for", but at the same time adding redundant stuff and for some reason, specifying the exact city or region a player is from in the lede. This is what I mean by half-constructive, half-disruptive.
Frenchl needs constant supervision of their editing, which is really problematic. What needs to be done at this point? Is this grounds for reviving this, since the editor does indeed know that those three additions of nationality were disruptive according to consensus? Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:13, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

Yes I think this is interesting to add informations about cities or regions of birth because reading "Born in France" in every article is really redundant and poorly informative. I think this is both a good-faith dispute and disruptive editing by a relatively new editor, not a matter of CIR or NOTHERE. Frenchl needs to slow down and gain consensus before making sweeping changes that go against existing conventions.
@Frenchl, Yes I think this is interesting to add informations about cities or regions of birth because reading "Born in France" in every article is really redundant and poorly informative. MOS:LEDE states: "In Wikipedia, the lead section is an introduction to an article and a summary of its most important contents." If a player represents a country at international level that is not their country of birth, that's relevant or notable information. The exact region or city is usually not important enough to be mentioned in the lede. If the reader wants to know the exact place they can read the body of the article.
@Frenchl, generally speaking, if you notice patterns across a wide range of articles – such as the repetitive phrase "born in X, they play for Y" – that you disagree with it's usually best to discuss this issue with others before going on an editing spree. Hello, What is the best example of a correct clubs season page? I tried to mirror Chelsea and Arsenal pages, however from reading Football talk page discussions there is a lot of inconsistencies and different opinions on how those are done. I don't want to create pages that will be considered incorrect by the projects standards. I already know some sections will need to be deleted, like results by round. It has been packed with irrelevant, uncited and unencyclopaedic content for a long time. I have tried removing this but it is being repeatedly readded by various users and IPs who appear to be closely tied to the subject. This stuff is readded every few weeks.

Looking through the edit history, this has been going on for years, long before I became involved.

Attempts to discuss on various talk pages have gone unanswered so far. Is it perhaps worth considering semi-protection or am I jumping the gun?

MOSNUM and header order again

pressure is not what I need, but the skills. Its easy placing stuff as he first line, but more difficult if you don't know what elements are there (there's no fixed list of obligatory items) between which you can move the template. Anyway for me, there are more pressing issues to deal with and more interesting projects to start. I also happen to know that as template reordering is a part of the general fixes in WP:AWB, there's a strong possibility that a gnome using the tool will perform a drive-by edit and will sort it at some point. @Ohconfucius: Ah, yes, now I recall the details of that discussion, and I apologize for mis-characterizing you above in a moment of weakness. But we are at an impasse; use of the script frequently causes a violation of MOS:ORDER (not just for Short Description) and it doesn't always get hand-corrected. I doubt the AWB genfix is easily to transmogrify to JS, especially given the many templates and their aliases involved. Perhaps a very special case for the commonest violations could be coded? Maintaining someone else's old code is usually a challenge, but I might take a look some time in the next couple of weeks - my JS coding has atrophied since I learned the language in 1997 though. I'm sorry for my exasperation at the suggestion of Redirecting/Merging articles to Nike football boots. I didn't check and see that it had only recently been made into a redirect. I've been closing a lot of deletion discussions lately and you might be surprised how frequently it gets suggested that an article be Merged to a Redirect or even to a nonexistent article. I have a script that shows Redirects in a different color font but I guess it is not commonly installed because even some editors who frequent AFD land suggest redirecting articles to other redirects.

I appreciate you reverting the edit and returning the article to an article state, such as it is. But I'm sorry if my exasperation at the suggestion seemed targeted at you. You have been a valuable participant in many AFD discussions, especially ones involving football players and teams, and I always take your opinions seriously. Dear snowman, I usually keep eyes on south asian/India football related pages as you know, but did not notice the following vandalism. Today, an ip just vandalised the article of the ongoing tournament of 2023 SAFF U-19 Championship, and the edit remained there for almost 6 hours. I have just noticed and revert the vadalism but check the audacity of their commentary in the summary, they think this is something funny. Soccerway regarding youth nt stats

Hi GS! I noticed your https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Lassana_N%27Diaye&diff=1177902900&oldid=1177868556 edit here. As far as I remember you always insisted soccerway.com was the most reliable football website for international stats from recent decade. I believe you are refering to the nt youth stats. Other sites have more complete stats, but soccerway usually has the correct number of FIFA ans UEFA official stats. I did this by your recomendation long time ago, same thing regarding the honours and their sourcing which <i always supported you for. I know soccerway counts often short the nt youth stats, but at least they are reliable. Maybe I wasnt aware of some changes in last couple of years, but can you point me out then how could I have done this edit better and using which sources instead? Doubt

Regarding the page Alberto Costa Pereira and this WP:FOOTY thread (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Page_names/moves), the following: the user was reverted but they did not desist no siree, they started a WP:RM on the article's talkpage to get it moved again, and so far has received a lot of support.

I am Portuguese and i guarantee you that "Costa Pereira" (as Mr. Ortizesp says in the talk) is not a NICKNAME, but his two surnames ("Alberto" being his given name). Silly me, i have been here 17 years and thought we should not have articles like Obama, Putin, Kane, Maradona, etc (meaning the articles, unless a subject was known monoymously - like for instance so many Brazilian footballers - or a nickname, should ALWAYS carry a first name and a surname), guess i was wrong...

The "close connections" to NASA is not relevant, Merhold is German, and the fact that he spent a few years at NASA doesn't override the fact that most of his career was in Europe. For mdy to be relevant to a European he/she should have had the overwhelming majority in the US (or the few other mdy using countries). The referred disucssion at the FAC was not a discussion, it was a statement by a single user.   • The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.

The fact is that Kufu was the reserve/farm team (https://kups.fi/kups-akatemia-ottaa-kufu-98n-sarjapaikat/), and players played there occasionally with a two-way contract, and represented the first team at the same time (check the match dates if you don't believe, https://int.women.soccerway.com/players/joni-makela/81533/ wink wink) I do ask you to prove that Joni Mäkelä was specifically sent on loan to Kufu on for one day on 13 May 2017, and for one day on 26 August 2017. And next year, he was sent on loan to Kufu between 28 April 2018 and 21 May 2018, and then again for one day on 9 June 2018.
