John Felice

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article John Felice, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of John Felice. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Chepstow Rural District Council, and it appears to include a substantial copy of +Rural+District+Council+. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 22:17, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

River Severn Map

I know you asked for this ages ago, but I've finally added a few more locations further south, in Gloucestershire and Wales, and removed Derby (don't know why I put it there in the first place). Thanks for the comments. I got bored playing round with it in draft (and learning a lot about Welsh history in the process!) so put it up in the hope that others could improve it - feel free to add bits yourselves! I think it particularly needs an expanded section on the recent (20th century) past, sports rivalry, etc., but I'm happy for others to make what changes they want (and if I think they're inappropriate I'll just change them back again, of course...) English exonyms

Hello again Ghmyrtle,

I would welcome your assistance on a draft project page I'm putting together for non-English place names in the UK per the discussions made on the WP:UKCITIES talk page.

I have started a sandbox page at User:Jza84/Sandbox, and would like you to take a look. It's not finished, but I'm coming to the end of my knowledge on the topic and, if you desire, wouldn't mind at all if you fancied editting that page prior to bringing it to the community. I hope it helps, :) --Jza84 |  Talk  22:29, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for the great response!
The earlier problems you speak of (such as "English first" and "native name") stem from me copying and pasting guidelines from WP:NCGN and WP:UE. If you feel you can put something together that is in the spirit of what's needed and what guidelines exist, I really don't mind you diving in my sandbox. This is a subject that doesn't really mean an awful lot to me (in terms of raw passion), and so I have an objective, open mind but also a lack on knowledge of certain examples.
I think the examples of London and Bristol are good examples to mention as those likely to disclude "Celtic" names, as they fail certain criteria/recommendations made at WP:NCGN, an official Wikipedia convention.
The page is ultimately intended to help rather than hinder though, so I've tried to keep things positive. --Jza84 |  Talk  23:43, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I have made some revised suggestions at User:Ghmyrtle/Sandbox 2. I am conscious that this may not give as much rigour as some might like - though personally I tend towards flexibility rather than rigidity of approach - and also that it tends to focus on the Wales/England issue, which has been my main concern and has generated many words on many talk pages. I haven't changed Jza84's suggested usage table, simply because I'm undecided how useful it would be (although I'm very grateful for the stimulus it has offered). All comments and thoughts welcome. I'm copying this message to various pages, but I suggest that further discussion should be coordinated at the WP:UKCITIES talk page. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:26, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:60s53-1-.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Question

Is there anything wrong with the new wording?

I think the juxtaposition of "native" versus "non-native" is a bit odd considering that both Anglo-Saxons and Celts are Indo-European peoples who would both have "invaded" and displaced earlier populations.

P.S. It is odd to not see an article discussing this on the Welsh Wikipedia. Your userpage does not state that you are a Welsh speaker, but if you are, could you write a small stub? - Francis Tyers · 15:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

How about "previous" or "previously established" ? - Francis Tyers · 15:43, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
And about "Origins of the British", I'm not sure about that, but again it isn't something that troubles me greatly. Going by what Oppenheimer says we could put "former invaders (Welsh)", but I think that would be a crude stab. "Earlier", or "Previous" work sufficiently well. PS. Could you see my note on the talk page? - Francis Tyers · 15:50, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Georgemccrae.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgemccrae.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Mangostar (talk) 02:26, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Reply to comment about Gospel music

Gospel music is not just music of African-American traditions. Gospel music (like Christian music is a major classification covering many styles of music (all of which carry a common theme). Additionally, as you stated, Gospel music is not just music of the USA. The compromise (made by a group of editors) was to make the Gospel music article very general in scope and provide more detail in the various subgenres of Gospel music (see Urban contemporary gospel, Southern Gospel, etc. Please review the article discussion page for the rationale behind the current status of this article. Hope this provides the information you seek. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 17:14, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

It was user:John Carter who actually added it, i've just tweaked it a bit to correct denomination and so on. David Underdown (talk) 14:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Merseyside

Hi there, I hope this isn't considered spam, but I noticed on the UK Geography project page that you have an interest in Liverpool related pages, so I wanted to ask if you would be interesting in supporting a Merseyside Wikiproject? I'm trying to gauge if there is suitable support before making a formal proposal. Cheers. Zenichiro (talk) 15:28, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Oops sorry,

I've been redirecting a bunch of Who songs not notable in their right. I'll just remove the Category:The Who songs template. indopug (talk) 21:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

(Sorry I missed your reply) I don't think so; the song is not notable as a Who song, so the category shouldn't be there. As a stronger example, take something like The Beatles' "Yesterday", which has been covered by hundreds of bands; we won't have the song in each of those bands' categories would we? indopug (talk) 23:41, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you are proposing a merger of a page I set up today. I am unable to concentrate entirely on examining what is going on here, but I am trying. If you propose to merge with Liverpool urban area, I am concerned that the existing urban area page does not carry the point that I was making. The urban area apparently says St Helens is part of it. In the area that is wider Liverpool St Helens is a totally separate town, different dialect, sport etc. Not the same idea that I was making. Dmcm2008 (talk) 23:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Greetings. I have semi-protected the Crediton article for 24 hours. Unfortunately, I am editing Wikipedia by battery powered laptop for an indefinite time due to a precocious spring thunderstorm in my area. If I don't get to it tomorrow, would you mind removing the sprotect template when the protection expires? I've watchlisted the page, but please drop me a line if there is any further hoaxing. Thanks! --Bradeos Graphon Βραδέως Γράφων (talk) 12:42, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Also, I'm satisfied the NWA material is very likely a hoax (in the absence of any evidence to the contrary), and whenever you'd like please feel free to remove it from the article if you agree. --Bradeos Graphon Βραδέως Γράφων (talk) 12:49, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm sure Crediton is lovely, which on reflection is just the sort of thing to almost completely disqualify it from a visit by NWA or their ilk, I would think! Cheers, --Bradeos Graphon Βραδέως Γράφων (talk) 12:56, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

"I'm sure Crediton is lovely" This clearly proves that neither of you have ever set foot in Crediton. In recent times several people have been stabbed (to death) in the high street, and saturday night is notorious for drunken violance, and not one month ago someone tried to blow themselves up outside Lloyds bank after dowsing themselves in petrol. http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=137015&command=displayContent&sourceNode=136999&contentPK=20528605&moduleName=InternalSearch&formname=sidebarsearch Yea Crediton is just lovely... ps: The NWA GIG at the Liberal Club is not a hoax. Please just check the references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.170.240.10 (talk) 13:51, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I never said Crediton was lovely (...it's OK), though I have set foot there many times. Maybe you could aspire to permanent recognition here. Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:33, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry to have caused a fuss. My statement was based on my circumstances which (of course) our anon NWA fan friends wouldn't know about. In the rust belt industrial slum wasteland where I live, guns, legal and illegal, are carried by almost everyone. The police, such as they are, won't leave their cars after dark in many neighborhoods unless there are dozens of them in riot gear. Competing drug dealers and pimps machine gun each other fairly regularly, at least a few every day. We are known (as is south central L.A.) as being one of the most dangerous places to live in the entire world. I think we hold the record for the youngest child tried as an adult for first degree murder (11 years old, for a gang execution). I'm sure Crediton is quite nice by comparison... ;-) --Bradeos Graphon Βραδέως Γράφων (talk) 01:45, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
"which on reflection is just the sort of thing to almost completely disqualify it from a visit by NWA or their ilk..." -hello racist agenda! look dude, they came, they saw, they kicked crediton's ass. coming straight outta khirton, a bad mothaf*cka named ICE CUBE... 82.32.194.76 (talk) 02:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Even more remarkable, given that Ice Cube left N.W.A in 1989 and the supposed "concert" was in 1993... Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:12, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
"Even more remarkable, given that Ice Cube left N.W.A in 1989" - This was due to a fall out with NWA manager Jerry Yeller, but cube still remained tight with NWA, particularly Easy-E (writting a lot of lyrics for his first solo album). Khirton was chosen as the place for this small renioun gig due to it being quiet, and secluded (as well as having a sizable UK NWA following), which was felt necessary do to the death threats Easy-E was recieving at the time...This is all elborated on in James Hardy's book. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.107.195.157 (talk) 21:52, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

"Sorry, but someone saying "they've checked" does not verify it. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:14, 22 June 2008 (UTC)"

Well what the f**k does, we have done everything required by wikipedia to include additions to an article. All you prove with your action Ghymrtle is that the only truth is the account of the most emphatic assertive person.

Just thought...

...I'd best let you know that User:Zenichiro was making tentative enquiries about founding a WikiProject Merseyside. You seem to be active in that region of WP so thought you might want to know! I'm not sure if/where there is a central discussion, but there is a note on User talk:Zenichiro. :) --Jza84 |  Talk  10:21, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Category

I am still new to editing and I am wanting to follow up the pages for Urban area or Greater Liverpool etc with a grouping of the districts in the category section. I am seeking feedback before I make a pigs ear of it...... I am thinking along the lines of the Broader Rental Market map and linking all of the districts. A somewhat shortened version exists on the Liverpool Urban Area ONS list. But I was looking along the lines like a full list see L Postcodes; with some category on the foot of each place. Does that make sense or is it workable? Let me know what you think. Dmcm2008 (talk) 21:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Swanee

Thanks for your work on Swanee (song). However Jolson certainly couldn't have recorded it for Decca Records in 1919, ten years before that company existed. Might he have recorded it for some other company in 1919, then re recorded it for Decca a generation or so later? If you have info to straighten it out, that would be appreciated. As it stood, it was clearly wrong, so I took the Decca out-- more changes may be needed. Thanks again, -- Infrogmation (talk) 03:05, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Great, thanks! Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 14:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Liverpool Urban Area 'greater Liverpool'

I am not sure how this works, but I am seeking additional opinions on the discussion on this page, I will abide by the general consensus. User JZA continues to undermine my edits and has done over a period. However I am only looking at opinions on the discussion page on Liverpool Urban Area if you are interested please leave your thoughts. Thank you. Dmcm2008 (talk) 10:10, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
